[00:00:59]Italians are world famous for >> [music] >> being loud, being very kissy and passionate, and moving their hands a lot.

[00:01:11]The only people I know that are so loud are the Americans, okay? Italians are loud? Interesting.

[00:01:19]>> For driving like crazy and for not respecting rules, including the laws and times. [music] However, there is a specific set of rules Italians will always [music] obey to. These are the 20 rules Italians will never break. Let's start with greetings, cuz these are very, very important in Italian culture.

[00:01:40]We're very affectionate, we're very passionate, and we tend to kiss even people who we've never [music] met before. Now, there is a very specific rules for the cheek kissing, which is always start on the right. Two kisses in some region of Italy. Ciao, ciao, ciao, bello.

[00:01:56]And three kisses in other regions visit.

[00:02:01]In Italy there's nothing like filter coffee or [music] Americano. Italians have espresso, [music] literally drunk within 30 seconds.

[00:02:13]Done >> [music] >> in a mouth.

[00:02:15]It can be a corto or ristretto, which is basically like even >> [music] >> shorter than espresso, so up to here, or a lungo, which is basically like a little bit longer. If you're asking for a latte in an Italian [music] cafe, you will get this cuz latte in Italian means milk.

[00:02:33]>> It's milk.

[00:02:34]>> Cappuccino is socially acceptable only at breakfast. It is however acceptable to ask for a macchiato. A macchiato is actually an espresso with a little bit of milk foam, and you can [music] ask for a macchiato caldo, which is hot milk foam, or a macchiato freddo, which is a cold milk foam. Very complicated. When toasting, always always look at people in the eye.

[00:03:03]>> Eye contact is really important. And good Italian wine is very important.

[00:03:06]>> Wow.

[00:03:07]>> Let's talk fashion for a second. The number one rule that you should probably never forget if you visit Italy is do not under any circumstances >> [music] >> wear white socks.

[00:03:19]>> STAND BACK. [screaming] NO.

[00:03:21]>> ITALIANS BELIEVE IN THE concept of food separation. We don't place it all in [music] one plate, which is why buffets don't really work in Italy. So you always start with antipasto, which is basically the appetizer.

[00:03:33]Then you move on to a primo, which is your [music] entree, if you want. Then you move on to a secondo, which literally means second, and and that's like your main dish. Then you move on [music] to dolce, which literally means dessert. And that's how you proceed, not the other way around. You can skip one if you want, but you need to follow the sequence.

[00:03:55]Very important. Different meats should not be mixing [music] in the stomach. If you start with chicken, you cannot go to beef.

[00:04:01]>> [clears throat] >> If you start with beef, you cannot go to lamb.

[00:04:05]>> [laughter] >> Breaking news, bread is not an appetizer. It will be there for the entire duration of the meal, and you will not get butter or olive oil or balsamic with it.

[00:04:17]>> Then why is it there?

[00:04:19]>> Lovely Italian bread on your table.

[00:04:21][music] So, please enjoy as it is. So, once I went to a restaurant with an American friend of mine, >> [music] >> and she was vegan, and we asked for vegan options. The waiter was really confused. [music] Very few places actually have vegan options in Italy. It is coming, like, you know, gluten-free and, you know, these kind of things are coming to Italy as well.

[00:04:42]>> [music] >> Now, let's talk spaghetti for a second.

[00:04:44]Italians do not, and I repeat, do not eat spaghetti with meatballs.

[00:04:50]That's an American/Disney [music] invention from Lady and the >> Okay, so how do you eat it?

[00:04:57]>> with a range of different sauces, [music] including ragu, which is quite close to meatballs, but it's actually not. We do eat meatballs, but not with spaghetti. [music] Another American invention is Alfredo sauce, and it's not not something we do. No, absolutely not. Carbonara sauce, by the way, does [music] not contain any cream at all.

[00:05:18]Making pasta, you >> Wow.

[00:05:20]>> have to add [music] salt to boiling water.

[00:05:23]Like this thing.

[00:05:24]>> I do that. Okay, sea salt.

[00:05:29]>> Very important. Do not mess with Italian pizza. Do not expect chicken on pizza or crazy or fruit. [music] You're not going to be finding it there.

[00:05:43]There are only two types of pizza crust.

[00:05:45]Neapolitan means that it's kind of raised and it's more fluffy, while Roman is quite crusty. Italian salad is extremely simple. It will be only served with extra virgin olive oil, vinegar, balsamic. [music] Salad is supposed to be healthy and simple. Italians are a bit hygiene freak. They believe that if they don't wash everything off their body and hands and everything at any given time, they will be contaminated [music] by some strange extraterrestrial bacteria. This is one thing we're actually quite anal about, the bidet.

[00:06:16]It's actually a bit of a play on word there. After we always always always use the bidet.

[00:06:25]>> It is amazing.

[00:06:26]>> Of course.

[00:06:27]>> And normal And normal human beings should.

[00:06:29]>> Italians are very very sensitive to [music] temperature change.

[00:06:33]>> Cold never bothered me anyway.

[00:06:35]>> And you'd definitely be able to spot an Italian abroad because they normally wear a [music] big bomber jacket. Also, Italian women are not allowed to walk in public with wet hair.

[00:06:48]Why? [music] Because they might catch a cold.

[00:06:52]Italians are also obsessed with the draft. [music] Having a draft at a restaurant is like their worst possible nightmare.

[00:06:59]>> The wind is howling.

[00:07:01]>> They will carefully select the [music] table based on the lack of draft.

[00:07:07]Digestion >> Wow.

[00:07:08]>> is probably the most [music] important process of your human body, which is why Italians normally after a meal, they never ever ever expose themselves to cold temperature because that would block their digestive system. We even have a whole range of alcoholic beverages aiming at helping you digest, which is basically an excuse to drink more after a big meal. And these [laughter] are called digestivi. So, when you're a kid and you go to the beach with your parents, you're actually taught that you are not supposed to swim for two or three hours >> [music] >> after a meal because you could get congestion and die in the sea. It's very traumatizing.
