Introducing new genetic lines in bird breeding helps prevent inbreeding depression, which can damage the genetic pool and reduce offspring quality; zebra finches are more affordable (2,500 pesos per pair) and easier to transport than Gouldian finches (10,000 pesos per pair), which require special permits and careful handling due to their fragility.

A Closer Look at My Beautiful Zebra Finches
Added:[music] [music] [music] [music] >> Hi guys. It's a beautiful day once again and welcome back to Dexter's World Channel.
As we close the month of June, as we are about actually, uh >> [music] >> I have so many things to tell you about the finches breeding.
It gives us now a conclusion that it's really best to introduce another line of breeding [music] for our for our birds, especially for the finches.
>> [music] >> Because I can observe that since we have introduced two [music] I mean, we got some from other source and placed that in the breeding pen.
>> [music] >> They are becoming very active and lively, and [music] they have produced plenty of babies.
>> [music] >> I don't know if uh this is the direct result of what we have done, but 90% I'm sure, or I'm suspecting that this is the result of the two that we have uh placed right there.
>> [music] >> So, the babies that they have produced is quite uh it's quite good. You can see here that they are so active, and not only active, they are fast growers. And this is the answer already to the issues on inbreeding.
>> [music] >> Because inbreeding, in whatever types of animals, is really um a taboo.
Meaning that you have to uh shy away with uh inbreeding, because this will totally damage the genes, and totally damage the kind of chicks that you're going to produce. And this is now manifested by the the things that we have observed in this uh particular cage.
E- Yesterday, I I made a vlog about the >> [music] >> African lovebirds, and it's so heartbreaking to know that the nest boxes are actually ruined and damaged because of their ability to munch even hard things.
>> [music] >> But this is not true with the finches because these finches are just very meek animals, meek bird that they cannot even destroy a thing.
So, I am I am now very confident that with that new line of that we have [music] introduced here or we have mixed here, we'll somehow give us the ultimate success of our breeding of these finches.
Well, these are only simple simple These are not the [music] costly finches that we can see in the market especially with the the Gouldian.
This is only a Java finch. I know that that the Java finch This is a zebra actually zebra finch.
>> [music] [music] >> And uh I am quite uh discouraged Why? Because when I when I inquired about the price of this Gouldian finch, it it's very costly.
One pair of this Gouldian finch will cost us around 10,000 pesos. Just one pair.
And imagine these are just tiny birds.
>> [music] [music] >> With the zebra finch, because you can just buy at 2,500 per pair, and you can already have it, the two pair.
But for the Gouldian, I really have hard times because aside from you will buy them, you will also get the necessary local transport permit from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
So, although these birds are just very small, but they are costly and they're difficult to transport because they are so fragile, so sensitive, that you have to make it sure that they will be properly handled, especially when you going to buy them from other cities like in Manila.
So, here in our city, in in Zamboanga City, I haven't [music] find any source of this Gouldian finch, which is really a very amazing bird for me.
>> [music] >> So, I'm crossing my fingers that um given that we already have a permit here to possess these different types of birds, [music] I'm still crossing my fingers to have this Gouldian finch because this is a very delightful in the eyes. I mean, these birds are the color of these birds are really very fascinating. The vibrant colors will speak to us about the beauty of nature and will manifest that this this birds just like drawing, you know. The combination of colors are just so amazing. That's why I really have to [music] try very hard to have our our golden finch.
>> [music] >> I am talking to some to some breeders.
I'm also talking to some breeders of other birds.
But the first priority that I would like to [music] to grab is having this Gouldian finch at the farm.
So, >> [music] >> maybe we can start with two pairs, but I'm quite sure I'm quite sure that we can really [music] produce them quickly.
>> [music] >> So, the inbreeding is is already sold and uh I hope I can give you a very uh exciting uh video about about the care and about the the transport [music] and even as we receive this very fascinating birds, the Gouldian finch.
>> [music] >> So, thank you guys for watching. I hope that you will be inspired with me. Our farm is getting better. Our gorilla statue is getting better. [music] We have already done it, you know, uh >> [music] >> done it right and it looks like a very real gorilla now and I hope that you will like this one. So, thank you guys for watching. I hope you will continue to like and share videos and see you in my next vlog tomorrow only here at Dexter's World.
