[00:00:12]Hi guys, welcome or welcome back to my channel. My name is Bella and this entire reading vlog, no matter how long it takes, will be dedicated to reading the entirety of Don Cahoti. I have technically already started it. I'm on page 36 because I started reading it at the very end of the 12-hour readathon that I did. And obviously, I didn't get very far in, but I did write down the two thoughts that I had while getting to page 36. First things first, I was not expecting this book to be so funny. I guess that comes with like I don't go into books knowing a whole lot about them. So, obviously, I didn't like I really didn't know anything about this book except that it was set in Spain, which is why I'm reading it right now because why not read it when I'm in Spain until the beginning of August. So, that's basically all I knew. And I went into it. I I don't know. I guess because it's a classic, I was just kind of assuming it would be like a really serious book about chivalry, maybe some light-heartedness, whatever. But it's really funny. I I I was cracking up. I really like this main guy. He's a hoot and holler. He first of all, I love love love reading about people who love books.

[00:01:30]And this guy is me. I mean, let me read it. He was soon so absorbed in these books that his nights were spent reading from dusk till dawn and his days from dawn till dusk until the lack of sleep and the excess of reading withered his brain and he went mad. Everything he read in his books took possession of his imagination. Enchantments, fights, battles, challenges, wounds, sweet nothings, love affairs, storms, and impossible absurdities.

[00:01:59]There's more to it. Like, it was just the whole page was kind of dedicated to talking about how much he loves reading.

[00:02:05]And he's a bit of a not smart guy, but he's silly. I don't know. I just really really love reading about people who love to read. And it's also really nice and kind of refreshing to read about it in a way where it's not kind of pretentious like, "Oh, I love reading and I love blah blah blah." Reading in the way of like elevating your intelligence and your mindset. This guy's reading.

[00:02:33]Love the game. Like me reading Watt Pad at 14 in bed. That kind of reading. And I absolutely love it. What a way to open the book up because that was like the second page that I read. Wow. I was immediately not only relating to the main character, but finding myself just really loving him already. And he's like, he's an idiot. No offense, he is an idiot. I'm sure I'm pretty sure at one point the narrator is like something about like it would have like squished his brains if he had any or something like that. He is an idiot, but he's like a lovable idiot and I can tell that from 36 pages in.

[00:03:16]I'm really liking him and I'm really liking the book, which is wild. I was getting kind of scared leading up to reading this that because I don't read a whole lot of classics. I really love fantasy. I really love historical fiction. Because I don't read a lot of classics, I was going to find it difficult and I wasn't I was going to be bored and I wasn't going to like it. But my hopes have shot up so high. I'm really really excited to just dive deep into this book. Oh, I found the brains part. He said this made his progress so slow and the sun was rising so fast and becoming so hot that his brains would have melted if he had any like how and there was like another part where he was he basically why don't I tell you what the book is about. At least at this point in the book, what has happened is he this little I think he's like a farmer or something or whatever uh has decided because he loves to read. He loves these books about chivalry and knights and adventures that he is going to, I guess, become a knight and he's just going to set off on a quest and he's going to get kned and he's going to have these adventures and he's going to find his lady love and all that just to live out what happens in his books. It's just so funny to read about him doing this because he's like, "Okay, well, I need armor." and he didn't have a helmet, so he created one. And when making it, he tested. He like hit it and it just immediately fell apart and he was like, "Darn, I have to like reinforce it." So he reinforced it with like things on the inside or whatever.

[00:04:51][snorts] And then he was like, "I don't want to test it again, though." And then he just left it alone. Like he just he was like, "It literally fell apart completely on the first test and then he just never tested it again." I don't know. He's just really He's just a really lovable idiot. Anyways, that's a lot of talking for only the first 36 pages. So, I am definitely going to do some more reading today and I will fill you in when I have more thoughts. Not much of the plot has happened, although I think he is about to get kned. A lot of the things that he's coming across aren't real. I guess like he came across an inn. He needed to go stay at an inn. And because it had I guess it was like towers or something, he was like, "This is a grand castle." And he goes in and there's prostitutes outside. He's like, "These are fair maidens." And or whatever. He thought they were like like ladies. He thought he was like being treated as a as a knight coming in and I think he's going to have the people knight him or something cuz he's like, "I need to be kned. I can't do any of this unless I'm actually kned." So that's his next plan of action is to get kned by someone because he can't actually go on any adventures without being kned. Anyways, I am going to read more of this and then I will see you soon.

[00:06:26]I have just gotten to part two. So, I'm on page 73.

[00:06:34]Part two. So, I know before I was like, "Oh, he's just kind of an idiot. Like, he's just kind of stupid." He's like actually insane.

[00:06:43]And I don't know why it took me so long to realize that. I was just kind of cuz every single character that he he like comes into contact with in the story immediately basically immediately realizes that he's insane. And I was just kind of I don't know why I was just like, "Oh, they don't they don't know him like I do. He's not insane. He's just a little stupid." No, he's insane.

[00:07:03]He genuinely this entire thing is just one extended hallucination that he is having where everything is like some quest. It's still funny though. And I was telling my dad the same thing that I told you guys where I'm like I didn't expect it to be so funny and silly. And he sent me he's like, "Oh, so you didn't know the word."

[00:07:27]Hold on. I have to find the what he sent me now. He said he is. He always uses ellipsy. So he said he is dot dot dot h dot dot dot. How you describe someone kind of funny, quirky, willing to chase crazy dreams and ideals. dot dot dot question mark question mark question mark. He says it's pronounced chiotic.

[00:07:45]Chotic, which sounds like chaotic, but it's spelled like qu i o t i c. I've never heard of this word before. And he said kiotic maybe. I said, is that a word? He said, look it up. [laughter] And then I think he sent me a screenshot of the um definition. An adjective that describes someone or something that is exceedingly idealistic, unrealistic, and impractical.

[00:08:09]So, I didn't know that. And now I just kind of look like an idiot cuz I'm like, whoa, this book is so silly. Oh my god, of course it was. Okay, me just being an idiot, I guess. One thing that I did find funny. So, basically, he comes back. I told you guys he was like at this inn that he thought was a castle.

[00:08:26]He goes back because the in owner told him and was like, "You don't have any money. You don't have a change of clothes." Like, and of course, dude was all like, "Well, when I read the books, they never talked about having money or clothes on them." And he was like, "You didn't have to. That's kind of obvious."

[00:08:42]So, he's like, "You're so right. I'll go back and get money and clothes." So, he went back home. And when he got home, there was like a group of people. So, it was like his his niece, a preacher or something, some religious person. It was like a group of people who know him who had gathered and were like where did he go? What's up with him? Why is he gone? And then he come and they were basically talking like he's gone insane. He's left. He's gone insane because of the books that he reads and they've drove driven him insane and we need to get rid of these poisonous mind numbing melting books and they're they're like horrible books and it was only inevitable that he would go insane for reading them. They're terrible. We need to burn them. We're going to burn the books. And first of all, guys, do you know how expens like weren't books super expensive back then?

[00:09:32]Why would you burn them? Like, at least sell them? Like, you're just burning money at that point. And they're like, "Well, we should go through to make sure there's no like good stuff in here." So, they start going through the books and then they're just like they they're going through them deciding what to burn and not. And they're like, "Do you have a boyfriend?" No, no, that's actually like a good one. I actually know like that one's a good one. and they just start keeping like a bunch of his books for themselves and then burning the rest. I know. I just found that really funny because they were just like, "Oh my god, these just disgusting, horrible books that drove them insane and they we need to burn them and then they just start keeping a bunch for themselves.

[00:10:08]I mean, I can't blame them, but still."

[00:10:10]And one part that I did find very funny, they're going through the books, like reading off titles and everything, and they get to Oh, yeah. So it says Galatia by Miguel de Cvent. I don't know how to say it. Cventant. Anyways, that's the author. And I was like, wait. And I thought it was funny. And then they go, that fellow Sventant has been a good friend of mine for years. And I know he's more conversant with adversity than with verse. His book's ingenious enough.

[00:10:38]It sets out to achieve something, but doesn't bring anything to a conclusion.

[00:10:41]We'll have to wait for the promised second part. Maybe with correction, it'll gain in full pardon denied it for the time being. So, while we wait and see, you keep it a captive in your house, my friend. Of course, this is something that I'm I don't I don't know what they're referencing at all, but I do find it funny that the author just like slides himself into the story and then I guess talks about himself in the third person.

[00:11:08]I don't know. I just found that really funny cuz I was like, I know you.

[00:11:13]I know you. I mean, of course, that whole reference, I just didn't know nothing about it because I don't know anything about this guy.

[00:11:21]Oh well. But anyways, yeah, at this point he has set off again. He has found a squire and now they are off adventuring and he just attacked some monks. No, monks or no friars. He attacked some friars. Obviously, that didn't go over well, but he is genuinely insane. Like, I don't He is fully hallucinating these entire scenarios. He just attacked some windmills.

[00:11:47]He was like, "Look, those giants over there in a square." I was like, "Those are windmills." And he was like, he's like, "No, you idiot. No, they're not.

[00:11:54]They're giants, and I'm going to attack him." And then he did, and he almost dislocated his arm. Anyways, now I'm on part two. So, I wanted to get to page 100 tonight, but I don't know if that's going to happen. But yeah, we're going to the beach tomorrow. So, hopefully some reading will get done on the beach.

[00:12:20]So, I did in fact go to the beach today.

[00:12:22]I just happened to take absolutely zero video evidence of it. So, you're just going to have to take my word on it. I was on the bus back. I was like, "Oh, wow." Yeah. Okay. And I read while I was at the beach. I read on the way to the beach. I read at the beach. No, no proof of it. I got literally zero B-roll.

[00:12:38]Okay. It is now 700 p.m. and I got to page 137 while we were at the beach and I got to So that's like after part three.

[00:12:50]Yeah, I'm in part three now. I can't remember if this was before or after part three, but there was this one part where our two main guys are off trying to find an adventure and they run into these people and they're all talking about how this guy killed himself and his funeral is tomorrow and he had some like really kind of odd I guess requests for his funeral and he killed himself because this super pretty girl in their town was everyone's in love with her and she just keeps rejecting rejecting guys. And so this guy killed himself because he got rejected by her. And they're like going to his funeral, blah blah blah.

[00:13:27]And they keep talking about how horrible and cruel and terrible this woman is and she's she's a beast and like, "Oh my god, she's horri like everyone hates her." But they all love her. They're all in love with her. Every single guy is in love with her. But because she doesn't entertain any of them, she wants to be left alone and she doesn't entertain any of them. The second they start to like pit on her. I guess she's like, "No, I'm not interested." And they're like that basically she's Satan. And so they spend this whole time talking how horrible this woman is. Then she shows up to the funeral. And the thing was like it was bothering me because I'm reading it and I'm like, "Okay, this is so clearly like one side of the story about how she brutally turns away these men and she's like basically telling them to go they should just go [ __ ] themselves and how like blah blah and I'm like this is so clearly like one side of the story and it's the side of the person who got rejected and like all these men have also been rejected who are telling this story and it's just so obviously biased and it was kind of bothering me. was getting on my nerves and I'm like, okay, like I guess it was written in the 1600s. I can't be too mad about the kind of like sexism I guess that's right happening right now. But then this girl shows up to the funeral, delivers this amazingly eloquent speech on, hey, like you guys can't blame me for this.

[00:14:52]Obviously, guys, she's speaking way better than I am, but she's like, "You guys, you none of you can villainize me for being beautiful, for being a beautiful woman, and you all loving me. I don't owe you anything.

[00:15:09]Just because you love me, I don't owe you love in return." She didn't ask to be beautiful. She didn't ask for any of this. She has isolated herself essentially. She became like a shepherd or something. She isolated herself.

[00:15:23]These men approach her and when she says, "No, I want to be alone." They go off and kill themselves, I guess. But like she Oh my god, the speech was amazing. And I was like, "No way." Like, because beforehand, I really noticed the I the objectification of this offscreen female offscreen off page female character, and it was just really objectifying. And I noticed that and it was kind of getting on my nerves, but I what am I going to do about it, you know? And then she comes on and oh my god, she's so intelligent and like even Don Cahotia was like, "Wow, she's like that was she's really smart." Like her now people are appreciating her intellect and her beauty blah blah blah.

[00:16:10]But like she was so intelligent in the way like the oh my god the speech was amazing. I won't read it all because it was like two pages long. But my god, it was so good. She perfectly because something that kind of really bothers me in every form of med, not even media, but like people in general when they and I do this myself, when they don't properly argue something, this is so off topic, but Jasmine, I don't know why I'm putting as if she's on the TV, but Jasmine on Love Island UK She'll never actually discuss the main issue. It'll just be like kind of oh blah blah blah. Like I don't know.

[00:16:56]It just kind of feels like she's dancing around the point. But that's an example of something that bothers me when people make arguments that they never truly lay out and properly argue their point or points like and she did that. so well in this speech. It's so stupid because it's such a small part, but I don't know. It's It kind of feels like when I read Media by Uripides where obviously in mythology, Medadia is the villain and she's horrible. People hate her, but in this play, she's still kind of painted out to be this villain. Not for only only for the reason that she kills her children. Every other thing that she had planned to do, the chorus was like, "Yeah, kill her. Kill him. Make make your husband's make Jason's life miserable."

[00:17:56]But then she like killed her children.

[00:17:57]And then they were like, "Wait, what are you doing?" But also not the point. I keep like comparing things. I don't know. Anyways, but it did make me feel like when I read Medadia and I was like, why is he kind of like making her win all these arguments? Like Medadia it the whole kind of play is her in this argument with Jason. She like they kept having these ar they're having this argument and Uripides made it so that media's argument was just infinitely better than Jason's. Jason sounded stupid and immature and media was amazing. And it feels the same way here where these guys are all, "Oh, she she rejected me. Like, she's such a [ __ ] I hate her. She's she's like this horrible woman." And then she comes out. She's like, "I don't owe you anything. You can't come up to me, profess your love to me, and then I don't owe you anything. And you want What do you want?

[00:18:55]you want me to return the love of every single man who has ever approached me and then and she was like and then then I would still be the villain because then I would be some [ __ ] just going around giving it to everybody so there's no winning and oh it was just such an amazing argument. This is like an 8 and a half minute clip at this point talking about this one thing and the whole whole not even argument but just speed the whole thing in general was so amazing. I felt I at first cuz it was bothering me like the objectification of women, but the whole thing ended up being about just like not objectifying women and seeing them as actual people rather than oh this is just some prop that I want in my life. I have like I've written down a quote from one part I think it was like at the very end of her speech because apparently it was not just this one guy who killed himself. It was multiple men who had killed himself after being rejected by her. and she said they were killed by their obstinacy rather than by my cruelty. So she's like, "It's not my fault. You can't blame me." I really like that part. So anyways, now I'm like way past that, but I I read that before I went to the beach. Then I went to the beach, kept reading, and now I'm back. I just didn't have time to talk before going to the beach. Anyways, I'm going to keep reading. He went to another inn that he thought was a castle again. This time he ended up figuring it out on the way out that it was an in. He was like, "What, guys? No way.

[00:20:27]Yeah, it is just one predicament after another with this guy." Anyways, so that's how far in I am. And yeah, also totally off topic again, I'm reentering my Once Upon a Time phase. I would be way further in this book by now if I hadn't spent hours watching Once Upon a Time. I'm literally restarted watching it yesterday. So, that's my bad. But yeah, and now I'm gonna watch it some more.

[00:21:14]Another beach day. and another beach day of me forgetting to take any videos of me reading at all. So, that was smart. I don't know what it is.

[00:21:24]There's gonna be like zero B-roll this whole entire video because I just keep forgetting to take any. First update is I'm officially on page 289, which is I'm think I'm in part four now.

[00:21:39]I'm sweating as per usual. This is something that's kind of happened since the beginning and it's just kind of wild that it's continued to I guess snowball to this point. It is so funny to me that Sorry, my mom is in the shower by the way in case that wasn't obvious. But anyways, while absolutely funny to me that he just kind of took it upon himself to change almost everyone and everything's name. So he changed like his horse's name, changed his name, he changed his Lady Love's name, he did not change Sancho Pansa's name. But anyways, he like changed a bunch of people's names and then just like never explained it to anybody or anything like it's he did not tell anybody that he did that.

[00:22:27]And so he changed his like the woman that he loves. He just kind of picked a woman at random and then like changed her name and has started like referring to her constantly and his squire just didn't know who he was talking about and he's just kind of rolling with it. But it was so cuz he's like change his name and he's like the woman I love like the most beautious and wonderful woman whatever. I can't remember her name now, but changed her name and then and then he finally like the Sandra Bonsa finally realized who he's talking about. Wild. Another thing that I've been finding kind of funny is the narrator of the book who it kind of seems like he's just accumulating this history of Donahote is it's really heavily implied at times that he ends up actually becoming this really famous and amazing knight which is hard to believe with where we're at in the book. I don't know. I just find it like really funny like where is this going where it ends up that he does become this extremely famous he seems well respected just widely known knight knight errant I don't know the narrator does make it seem like that happens at some point and it's just wild to me that at any point in this man's life he does become extremely famous for his deeds as a knight also something that I found wild and kind of in line with the whole thing I was talking about earlier where this woman comes out and she kind of autonomizes herself, just like talks about how she deserves to be heard and she's not an object for these men to love and be loved back, whatever is there's this woman who comes out and she's in men's clothing and obviously like the people who come across her are a little confused because they're like, "It's a woman in men's clothing." and they say and so my dear lady or my dear sir whichever you prefer to be so in the 1600s they can respect preferred pronouns but I wasn't same thing with as before I just wasn't expecting that however I was brought back down to earth by this next part his squire is on this whole trip because he thinks that he's going to get serious rewards for all this like he's going to get lands and titles he's just going to get re like heavily paid back for his work here. And something happens where he thinks like, "Oh my god, well, Donkeyote is about to get a bunch of land, but it's in Africa." And he gets like upset cuz he's like, "Oh, so all the people I rule over are going to be black." And he's not happy about it. And he's like, "Well, it's okay because then I'll just sell them into slavery."

[00:25:27]So that kind of evened out the previous things with like wild racism because that was I was very shocked when I read that. He's a he was only worried by the thought that his kingdom was in the land of negroes and that all the people he was going to be given as vassels would be black. But his imagination soon worked out a good solution. And he said to himself, "Who cares if my vassels are negroes?

[00:25:58]All I have to do is ship them over here to Spain, sell them for hard cash, buy myself a title or some official position or other, and live at my ease for the rest of my days." Wrong.

[00:26:10]Wrong take. I was not I don't know. I just wasn't expecting that, especially after everything else we read where I was like, "Oh, this is kind of like weirdly modern and like ideas." And I don't and then that happened. I just was not that was not very good. Anyways, just pass just past part four page almost to page 300. I kind of need to hurry up on reading I kind of need to hurry up on reading this if I'm going to finish it anytime soon.

[00:26:54]Okay, it has been quite a bit since I last updated you. I am now into part two. Quite a bit into part two. I'm on page 770. I first think basically I've been really really binging this book because I realized that my friend is actually getting in tomorrow and I am one not going to have like any time to actually sit down and read and like get a good chunks of reading done while she's here and also I'm not going to have any time or like solitude I guess to vlog. So I'm like okay I need to finish this book before she gets here tomorrow morning. So, anyways, I've just been really, really binging this book, trying to get it done so before she gets here so that I can finish this video.

[00:27:42][laughter] But also, I know this about myself that if I slow down reading a book for too long, I I end up not enjoying it as much. I've said this before. I just I can't lose momentum when reading or I become uninvested and I stop caring and I don't enjoy the book as much. And I knew that would happen that I would have to I would have to slow down. So, I didn't want to do that. So, basically, I'm I'm really really trying to finish this book before she gets here tomorrow.

[00:28:16]I don't know if it's going to happen.

[00:28:17]Several thoughts. It sucks because the one thing about binging is I I'm not picking up the camera talking about my thoughts as much. So, it's been first of all quite a while since I've updated, like I said. But, I feel like I don't have as many thoughts because I'm not just sitting reading thinking. I'm just like reading, reading, reading. And anytime I do have a thought, instead of picking up the camera, I just keep reading cuz I'm like, "Oh, I don't want to stop in like the middle of a chapter or whatever." So, anyways, it's just been forever. Also, I had several busy days because I was going I had multiple beach days with my mom. We went to the beach and basically it was just like I'm not going to whip the camera out at the beach. It's too loud. And I just kept forgetting to even video. I just I really suck. Anyways, also you might have noticed behind me I'm watching Kingdom of Heaven for the first time. I cannot believe this is the first time I'm watching this movie. It is so good.

[00:29:13]What the [ __ ] Like I actually I'm shocked I've never seen this movie. It is so far up my alley. Oh my god. I texted my dad cuz we watch movies a lot together and I was like, "Have you ever seen Kingdom of Heaven?" He's like, "No." And I'm like shocked. First of all, this is also so far up his alley. I would I'm genuinely shocked that he's never seen this movie either. I'm like, "You need to watch it. It's so good."

[00:29:37]I'm no expert, but this just feels really historically accurate. And even if it isn't fully historically accurate in the way that like Gladiator was because this is Ridley Scott, it has the feeling of authenticity in a kind of a way. And if you are someone who knows about this and you've watched this movie and you're like, Bella, you're so wrong.

[00:29:58]This is not at all accurate. You know what? Keep that to yourself. I don't want to know. It feels it feels nice to me because that's actually what happened with Gladiator. Gladiator in many many ways is not accurate at all. But that doesn't stop me from loving Gladiator.

[00:30:11]obviously. So, anyways, anyways, this is like a whole long tangent and it's not even about the book, but I just can't believe it's taken me 22 years to watch this movie. It is so good. The vibe really Scott knows how to catch a vibe because this wow just wow. And I am not finished. I'm like half not even halfway through, I don't think. Anyways, that's not the point of the video. Now I shall talk about my actual thoughts on Don Kote so far from like part two onwards. So when I started part two, the end of part one and the beginning of part two, you find out that this first book, cuz I said this before, the narrator writes and kind of alludes to the fact that Donote becomes an extremely famous knight and that everyone knows about him, blah blah blah blah blah. And I was like, that's kind of crazy because like he's not, let's be real, he's not a very good night. I guess he is in some ways. He he is he is in some ways and he's not in others, if you know what I mean. But I didn't realize that it ends like end of part one, beginning of part two, you find out that this first book about Donote has been written and all these people know about him now. And it's like, oh, and he's not famous for being this amazing knight on like an Arthurian level or anything. They love him. They love this book because he is like silly and not super good as a knight. And he just finds himself in these really crazy predicaments, I guess, that he creates in his mind because he just kind of believes things are happening when they're not. I was just shocked to find out that halfway through this book, the first book about him has been written and all these people are reading it and they know about him. I wasn't expecting that. I thought I was going to have to wait till the end to find out like, oh, and looking back, he actually was really great, blah blah blah. You know, I I don't know if I'm making sense. Another thing that has happened throughout the book is he he just kind of has this idea that any bad and sort of unexplainable, not even unexplainable, it's something that's completely explainable, but he refuses to believe it's not just or an ordinary thing. He blames evil sorcerers and enchanters on everything. So, it's like, oh, these people look normal, but they're not.

[00:32:40]they've been enchanted and that's why they look normal, but really they're not. And or won't explain the whole thing, but he ends up trapped, not trapped, but he's in this cart. Well, he's trapped in a cart. He's trapped in this ox cart and he's like, "Well, I've been enchanted an evil sorcerer, one of the multitudes of evil sorcerers that has it out for me, has enchanted me into this ox cart because otherwise I never would have gone in. They never would have trapped me if this hadn't have happened. But because of these evil sorcerers, here I am. And it's stuff like that constantly. He's always blaming these these like evil sorcerers who have it out for him and who are trying to thwart him at every move. They He's always blaming them. I'm going to start doing that. Anytime something bad happens to me, guys. It's It's just the evil sorcerers who want me to fail.

[00:33:32]Duh. My face is getting so red because I first of all I have to we have like a fan and I have to turn the fan off because it's too loud for me to talk while I'm video videoing. So it gets like immediately extremely hot in here anytime I turn the fan off and now it's 9 minute clip and I've been [laughter] sitting here for 9 minutes and I'm just sweating.

[00:33:54]Anyways, whole point of that was I'm gonna start blaming every bad thing or unfortunate thing that happens to me on evil sorcerers who want me to fail. So, so yeah, I have I've got like a little over 200 pages left in this book. I'm going to have to do some crazy reading tonight and tomorrow morning probably to be able to finish this in time like before my friend gets here.

[00:34:20]That will be quite the feat if I do manage to accomplish it. But I am I'm going to take a shower, finish Kingdom of Heaven, and then I'm going to grind this out hopefully. This is so jinglejangingly Huzzah! I have finally finished Donote.

[00:35:25]Okay, first I did not finish it before my friend got here. I finished this days ago, actually. And my friend has been here and left. And I did not finish it before she got here. So, that was not great. And then I just never updated because she was here and she's been here for like days and she just left. So, anyways, I finished this book like three days ago. Four stars. I'm giving it a solid four stars. I very very very much enjoyed this book. There are some things that I don't like, but it really is just personal preference. I just personally like a really strong plot and this obviously is just kind of following Donkeyote just kind of meandering story line rather than one strong plot or even like multiple strong plot lines. It's not plotheavy at all it kind of felt like to me. And while that's not a bad thing, it is just my personal preference that I like a stronger plot and not just kind of adventure after adventure type of thing.

[00:36:31]If that makes any sense at all. I don't know. But so for me, that is why I took a a star off because that's just my personal preference. And I feel bad on some level taking it off a star because of something that like it's not even something wrong with the book. It's just like my opinion or my preference.

[00:36:51]But that is something that just kind of bothered me and got a little boring for me after a bit. Like it is a thousand pages of it. [laughter] So that's quite a bit of just kind of following one guy or two guys as they do things. So that was like my one thing with this book that just wasn't my favorite. But as we all know, hilarious book. I feel like I made a mistake not updating immediately after I finished the book because now it's been like three days and I just like all of my fresh immediate thoughts are gone and on some level that's good like to kind of sit on your thoughts and your opinions and like I know a lot of people will wait a couple days to actually give a rating on a book but not really me though and so I didn't like write down my thoughts or anything so I'm trying to just remember everything that I thought about it. Yeah, I finished it on the beach actually. That was nice. And then we left immediately afterwards, but I got to finish it on the beach, which was nice. Now I feel like I have no thoughts. I really should have done this update right after I [laughter] finished the book. But yeah, four stars. And okay, I'm editing this video and I just remembered the thoughts that I had when I finished the book. And I actually can't believe I forgot them because I did not like the ending of the book. I really didn't like it. I can't believe I just completely forgot.

[00:38:21]Anyways, so basically, all right, I guess ignore whatever is going on out there. So, long story short, Donante ends up having to go home. And he gets there and when he arrives home, he gets really sick and he has like a fever and he falls asleep.

[00:38:42]And when he wakes up, he's no longer mad. He's like not crazy anymore. And he's he was like, "Wow, what the [ __ ] was that, guys?" He's like, "I'm never reading one of those chivalry stories ever again. I condemn them. I condemn all my actions. I I regret everything that I did. That was I can't believe I did ever did any of that." Just like the entire story, the everything that he did. He's like, "Wow, I I really hope like nobody ever reads that. I'm embarrassed. I'm embarrassed by my actions. I hate like you're joking.

[00:39:21]What the hell that like that literally worst possible ending worst possible ending for the entire like anything else would have been better. Literally anything. I was complaining about this to my friend right after I had finished it. She's like, "It's giving like they woke up and he woke up and it was all a dream." it is like what do you mean he he like wakes up from a fever or whatever and is like wow can't believe I did that sucks I don't want anyone to remember that I ever did that that's so embarrassing I hate shivery books I I don't believe that nights errant exist or ever did exist I it's an all my actions are just an embarrassment and what the [ __ ] so anyways that was I I finished book I'm like what that was probably the most unsatisfying book ending I've ever read ever. Like, what the hell? So, basically, yeah, that was the ending of the book. And I hated it. [laughter] So, wow. I honestly think that I blacked it out and that's why I didn't remember it that first time because what a terrible ending.

[00:40:31]Anyways, those are my thoughts on the end [laughter] of the book. One thing that bothered me was I told my friend I was reading this book. She's like, "Why are you reading that?" Like, she had I guess read it in Spanish when she was taking Spanish in high school and she had read it. She's like, "Why are you reading Donkey?" Like, "That's so weird." I'm like, "Okay, hater." Like, I actually really like the book. I mean, I guess maybe there's a bit of an issue if you're like reading it for class in Spanish and like Spanish is you don't really know Spanish like that. But whatever. I still really liked it.

[00:41:03]Apparently, there's like a shorter version with not as much, which it would make sense. there is a lot that like makes sense that you could just cut out because it's not exactly necessary to the story. It's just a bunch of tiny little stories one after the other. So, it makes sense that there would be like a cut down version, an a bridged version of this because 1,000 pages, like I said, is a lot. Anyh who, I know it's been quite quite quite a while since the last time I read a classic and the classics that I typically like are like Jane Austin. So this is very very different for me and my tastes I guess.

[00:41:41]So I'm very happy not only that I branched out and read something different but that I enjoyed it so much.

[00:41:49]And now I kind of want to read and I do think this one is very different from this. But the count of money I want to read that one too. my friend is reading it and the one thing that I'm worried about it is I'm gonna get seriously rage baited when things like bad bad things happen in a book that's like unjust I get really upset and so like I think that I would get really really rage baited reading that book and I don't know why but these two books like Donkeyote and the Count of Monito I always had them very paired up in my head and so I now that I've read this I think it's just super super different from the count of Monte Cristo even though what do I know because I haven't read that one either so maybe it could be completely from what I have expected from it. Just like with this did some damage on this book which is crazy.
