Southern tradition 'kissing it up to God'—where people would kiss germs off food before eating it—reflects a broader misconception that faith can remove natural consequences; however, invoking God's name cannot prevent consequences, and humans should choose to consume naturally created foods (like seeded fruits) rather than lab-engineered or hybridized alternatives, since everything in nature is designed to reproduce and sustain itself.

We discuss a Southern tradition called “kissing it up to God” and how it reflects a broaderAdded:
I remember we used to do this thing, cuz I'm from the south, and we would do this thing called kissing it up to God.
>> Yeah.
>> Cuz we used to have like macaroni and cheese and hot dogs and all sorts of stuff, right? And if a hot dog fell on the floor, if something fell on the floor, if a, you know, a Cheeto fell on the floor, whatever, somebody would take it from the floor and then kiss the germs up to God.
>> [laughter] >> And they would And they would pop it in their mouth and they would eat it.
>> Yeah. It's already poisonous, but now it's been on the floor with all sorts of bacteria. We would pick it up, we would kiss the germs up to God like that was going to do something to it.
>> Yeah.
>> So, I think that is kind of like something that, you know, many people have been sold and told and kind of indoctrinated into thinking that we can, you know, make these choices without consequences.
>> They're trying to remove consequences with God's name, and I'm like, God's He's not going to remove those consequences. He's still going to give them to you, you know what I'm saying? Like, you can't like use his name in like that, you feel me?
>> Okay. [music] If you work with the creator, how do you ultimately choose to to co-create?
>> Me, I decide to consume things that God created, not things that were created in a lab.
Or I really try to avoid even things that are hybridized. Like, I try to go more towards the original more original indigenous fruits instead of like the hybridized fruits like seedless seedless watermelon. I'll go towards a seeded watermelon, you know what I'm saying?
Cuz you know how I think it was Sevy who was like, if it's not seeded, don't eat it.
>> You like, if it's not seeded, I don't need it.
>> Yeah, if it's not seeded, I don't need it.
>> [laughter] >> And delete it.
>> Delete it.
>> You feel me?
>> Oh, man.
>> Cuz everything in this world is supposed to be able to reproduce.
So, this seedless watermelon can't reproduce. You know what I'm saying?
It's not like It's not natural.
>> Okay. It's been engineered.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> And things that humans engineer can never be as good as the original things that are created by the creator.
