5 Things in Britain That Americans Would Consider Socialism

[00:00:00]I moved from America to Britain, and in doing so, I walked directly into a socialist nightmare so complete, so total that the locals don't even notice it anymore.

[00:00:17]An American has warned about every dark prophecy, every slippery slope.

[00:00:22]It's all here.

[00:00:24]And the British are just strolling around.

[00:00:28]through it like it's nothing, getting a mill dill completely unbothered.

[00:00:33]So for every nervous American, if you're watching this, look away now.

[00:01:02]Here are five things that Britain does every single day that would send a grown man in Ohio jumping into the ocean.

[00:01:11]Socialism, television tax.

[00:01:14]Let's start gently here.

[00:01:16]In Britain, if you want to watch television, you pay the government about 170 quid a year on purpose, by law, and you'll get letters if you don't do it.

[00:01:29]That money funds the BBC, a broadcaster owned by no one and everyone at the same time, which makes the programs for the whole country, whether you personally watch them or not.

[00:01:43]To an American, this seems like madness.

[00:01:46]A television channel funded collectively, not owned by a billionaire, with no advertising, and they're not trying to sell you anything, or a truck or a lawyer if you have any accidents.

[00:02:00]They wouldn't know what to do with it.

[00:02:02]They'd sit there in silence between programs waiting to be sold gold or get a medical ad.

[00:02:10]And those ads would never come.

[00:02:13]Second socialist adventure here, paid time off.

[00:02:17]Wow, right? Terrifying.

[00:02:20]Here in Britain, if you have a full-time job, you are legally entitled to a minimum of 28 days of paid holiday a year.

[00:02:30]Paid, not to work, by law, whether your boss likes it or not.

[00:02:36]In America, you are legally entitled to zero.

[00:02:39]Zero, none, nothing.

[00:02:44]Hopefully your boss is nice, but yeah, Americans getting time off It just, you just have to hope and pray that you have a job that has that, and most Americans don't get that.

[00:02:56]But it also gets worse here in this socialist nightmare.

[00:02:59]If you're a woman here, you can get up to a year off if you give birth.

[00:03:04]Yeah.

[00:03:05]In America, you get maybe two weeks of sick pay that you have to use up.

[00:03:10]You are probably going to work far before the baby is even aware.

[00:03:15]Now, another thing here.

[00:03:18]Housing that the government builds.

[00:03:20]Oh my God, right? That's wild.

[00:03:22]Yeah, everyone is legally entitled to have housing here.

[00:03:25]And housing is built by the government and given to local councils.

[00:03:29]And that way, no matter what your income is, people can still have housing rather than live in a bin or a city of tents like most places in America.

[00:03:40]Many Brits grew up in one.

[00:03:42]Many grew up to become MPs, actors, famous artists.

[00:03:47]all because they had that safety net.

[00:03:50]Now, to an American, government housing that you can afford sounds like a policy, not like a policy, and more like the opening 5 minutes of a terrifying documentary about socialism.

[00:04:05]They would much prefer to spend $400,000 in debt for a house they can't afford and can be foreclosed.

[00:04:12]Another socialist perk, getting old.

[00:04:17]In Britain, getting old means that once you get a certain age, the bus is free.

[00:04:22]Many places also have free prescriptions once you get to a certain age.

[00:04:28]Your medicine, hand it over, no card machine required, no negotiation, no coupons needed, no choosing between your medication and your dinner.

[00:04:40]In America, being old is not a perk.

[00:04:43]It is an expense.

[00:04:46]The bus still costs money.

[00:04:48]The medicine still costs as much as a house.

[00:04:51]And the general attitude that you might need to be looked after in old age is something you simply should have thought about before getting old.

[00:05:03]The other really big socialist monster here, we've talked about it 1000 times.

[00:05:08]It is the final boss of socialism.

[00:05:11]The NHS, universal healthcare.

[00:05:14]This probably keeps many Americans, well, they're politicians, up at night knowing that now on the internet, people can see that other countries do have socialized health care and they still exist. Wow.

[00:05:27]There's no transaction, there's no bill, there's no invoice.

[00:05:31]You break your arm, you go get it fixed, and you get to leave.

[00:05:35]It's called the National Health Service here.

[00:05:38]It's funded by everybody, for everybody.

[00:05:41]And it has been quietly keeping the country alive since, what, 1948 now.

[00:05:48]And America, if you break your arm like we talked about earlier, you get two things.

[00:05:53]You get a cast and a bill.

[00:05:55]That's it.

[00:05:56]Here, you just get healed and you go home.

[00:06:00]Now, if you describe the NHS without the name to an American, word for word, what it does, they would call it communism and That would be the ending of their civilization as we talked about before, all while quietly wishing they had it, let's be honest.

[00:06:23]So there are five socialist monsters that you have to live with in this terrible socialized country.

[00:06:30]Free healthcare, free buses if you're a certain age, houses that the government builds.

[00:06:37]Even TV, even a television channel.

[00:06:40]And don't act like you don't watch Downton Abbey.

[00:06:42]Americans, you know you've been watching things from the BBC forever.

[00:06:46]That socialist channel.

[00:06:49]But the funniest part is that Americans will watch this video, get their little fingers lighten up in the comments, and be horrified by every single thing I just mentioned.

[00:06:59]And then go right back to using their fire department, socialize roads, socialized police, and praising their military.

[00:07:08]Because the only time socialism is terrifying to an American is when it has a British accent, I suppose.
