Teaching children to 'not see color' is a harmful approach that fails to prepare them for the realities of racial bias and discrimination they will face in society; effective parenting requires acknowledging and addressing racial realities rather than ignoring them, as demonstrated by the Nolan Wells case where his parents' colorblind approach may have contributed to his lack of protection from racial injustice.

Nolan Wells: “We Don’t See Color” Is a Lie—And Nothing Has Been Done
Added:The Nolan Wells case has taken yet another unexpected turn, and every new development seems to raise even more questions than answers. As investigators continue reviewing evidence, new photos, eyewitness claims, and public statements have sparked intense debate across social media. But separating confirmed facts from speculation has become more important than ever.
>> Unless Nolan Wells has a twin, this picture right here may have just broke this case wide open.
You remember these shorts? Nah, watch this whole video cuz it's a lot going on and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Now, Nolan's mom was calling for people to send in pictures or videos that they had from 4:00 that day. Well, this picture is actually from a video. They pan the video across and there's a person that believed to be Nolan Wells.
We're not sure on the boat and it's called Little Dad. But there's more to this story. Now, people are speculating that that is Katie's boat or Katie's family boat that he's on there. Why has nobody said anything or whatever. If this is him on this boat, who's ever voted this, why haven't they said anything? But that's not all. They do have pictures that haven't been confirmed, but there are pictures that I saw with Nolan. It looks like Nolan and with someone with blondhaired woman in the actual water around this time. So, it's possible that he didn't get on the boat, but it's possible they know what happened to Nolan Wheels and we don't. And I don't like it. What if I told you? Justice for Nolan. One newly surfaced image has drawn significant attention because some believe it may show Nolan near the time of his disappearance.
>> I just finished watching the interview of Nolan Welsh's parents along with Attorney Ben Crump. And um what I'm about to say, it will be insensitive. It will be. And I really don't give a how y'all feel. We need the uncomfortability right now. So if you don't have a stomach to hear it, just don't keep scrolling cuz again, I don't give a how you feel. Nolan Wells's parents are partially responsible for what happened to him.
I'll say it again. Nolan Wells's parents are partially responsible for what happened to him. You want to know what confirmed it for me? Hearing them say, "We don't see color. We don't see color." And we taught our son not to see color. That right there confirmed it.
Y'all are part of the reason why that boy is where he is right now. If you are raising a black child in America, you cannot teach your black child not to see color. If you are raising a black American kid, you cannot teach a black American kid that they are equal to their white American counterparts. You cannot teach a black American kid that they will get away with the same things as their white American counterparts.
Baby, it's 2026 and we still don't have equality. We still don't get justice.
AND THAT IS WHY WE HAVE TO SEE COLOR.
THAT IS WHY. HOW MANY ARRESTS HAVE BEEN made in connection to this case?
Somebody let me know how many people have been arrested. If one white boy and three black boys went on a boat and three black boys returned, but that one white boy didn't, those three black boys would have been arrested within the same hour. They wouldn't have had time to lawyer up. They wouldn't had time to go call mama and go home. And that is why we see color. It's not even just the fact that something happened to Nolan because we we we know that he's dead. We know something happened to him, right?
It's the fact that nothing is being done about the fact that Nolan is dead. And you know why nothing's being done?
Because of his color. Because he's black. But y'all, as his parents don't see color.
I hate that this is the way y'all had to learn this lesson, but lesson learned.
>> While the authenticity and timeline surrounding the image have not been officially confirmed, it has fueled fresh discussions about who may have seen Nolan during his final hours and whether additional witnesses have yet to come forward.
I just want to thank y'all for being so respectful of me because a lot of people put how they really feel in my inbox instead of trying to put me on blast.
And I like that. That's a respect thing.
[snorts] I was thinking to myself, a lot of people are are still thinking and saying that, "Hey, Nolan Whale's mom is being fake. She don't care about her son for real. How can she not be upset and stuff?" Let me tell you something. I got to thinking about this thing. And if you know she was talking about the repad, this going to be a happy time. She don't want nobody to be sad. We ain't no fools. We know they didn't got the results from their autopsy because the other day when they started getting that jury ready, I saw, "Oh, they didn't got some results in." I just want y'all cuz I'm I told y'all I'm emotion. I just want y'all to think for a minute with Nola Wells mom actually saw his body and the condition that everything is in before everything happened. after everything happened, she actually saw him and what they done done to her son being at this odd times of what I heard.
What if she saw that for herself? You know what I'm saying? Imagine that for a minute. Now imagine y'all all at that that um the repass, the funeral, whatever you want to call it, the service. And imagine that casket is closed for a minute. Do you know what would happen? How devastating it would be? Cuz I think y'all remember what happened with Mit and then didn't then nobody know how bad it was until that casket was open. You actually got to see it. Can you imagine for one minute when y'all talking about autopsies ain't real? Evidence ain't real. How real and devastating could it be for you to be at Nolan's funeral and at that time when they open that casket cuz we all know he's a nice looking young man. Nice looking young man. Life and whole life was ahead of him. Can you imagine them opening that casket up and you actually see what everybody been talking about and in 2026 you be like look at this ain't nothing changed. What better way to prove what happened than to have that casket open and we ain't and she ain't told y'all nothing. She didn't had her together. What better way to prove what's really going on? how they really feel about our black boys than opening that casket up and letting y'all see the autopsy that everybody talking about.
Just in my mind, just in my mind, just the what if factor. What if another imit casket named Nolan will >> at the same time Nolan's family continues to push for answers while asking the public to share any photos or videos that could help investigators piece together the timeline. um prior to ending up deceased and he was out with his Caucasian friends and then law enforcement tells everybody there's no file play to be suspected. Now a blind man could see that there's something to investigate. And so I want to applaud the legal team um Ben Crump and his team as well as his parents for not giving up and accepting no as an answer.
>> Well, it sounds like you think it is racially motivated. I absolutely think that I can tell you that we don't have any answers, but if you think that race is not something to look at, then you are not really trying to investigate.
>> So, what do you think?
>> Well, I mean, you know me, I'm a civil rights lawyer. I mean, I'm looking at it. I'm looking at the fact that these white kids deleted their social media accounts. It's not like they sat down and talked to law enforcement. It's not even like law enforcement decided that they wanted to sit down and talk to them. They decided, "Oh, the little black boy ended up dead without his cell phone, without his friends, going and telling his parents, "Oh, yeah, we got the cell phone. They got to go and track down the phone and find the phone." It looks like a racial thing to me, but hey, maybe we'll find out that it wasn't.
>> Their determination has kept this case in the national spotlight with many hoping that even one overlooked detail could prove critical.
>> Nolan Wells was found two weeks ago. His family is still searching for answers.
And unfortunately, a lot of the media coverage has gone away about this case.
But we need to keep Nolan Wells in this story front and center because now we're learning that Nolan Wells's mother, his family, has been receiving hate mail in the days leading up to his funeral.
Nolan Wells, if you don't know, is the 18-year-old teenager who went missing during Fourth of July weekend and was found dead days later in Mississippi. He had his whole life ahead of him. He was about to turn 19 years old, was about to play football, was a really, really good kid. Benjamin Crump, the lawyer for the family, says the results of the independent autopsy will be turned over to ultimately to a grand jury, and they're actively conducting an independent investigation into Nolan's death. Nolan's funeral is set for this week. His family is receiving horrific, horrific hate mail, and the answers that they're searching for still seem far away. Nolan's memory should be remembered and the story should not just be swept away.
>> Meanwhile, emotional conversations surrounding the investigation continue to spread online, reflecting the frustration, heartbreak, and unanswered questions that still surround Nolan's death.
>> And I hope to my community, the black community, that this Nolan Wells situation just bring awareness. It just bring it back to the front street. You see what I'm saying? Cuz you got his parents up here. I feel like we going harder than his parents. I'm going just go on say it for cuz for y'all folks to get up on the news and say that it ain't about race and they don't see color basically.
The you talking about that [ __ ] happened in Mississippi. He was the only black child on the boat or in the in the crew in What? What are you saying? Mind you, I said this happened in Mississippi. You do your homework. Go do your homework on Mississippi. Mississippi is the deep south. That's about the deepest this going to get. And you got up on the news and said that you don't see color. Are you serious? Mm- When we ready, when we ready for real, y'all call me. Situation like this going to continue to happen if we don't never address whatever happened to us. We keep on trying to sweep [ __ ] under the rug like it ain't done never happen. I'm not saying you be rude, but you stand on all [ __ ] T when you feel like them folks playing with you, bro. What is you talking about? It ain't about no race. Yes, it is. It's always about race.
>> As official investigators and the family's independent legal team continue their work, one thing remains clear.
This case is far from over, and every new piece of verified evidence could play an important role in revealing what really happened.
