Dental issues in dogs, such as cavities, exposed nerves, or calculus buildup, can cause significant discomfort that leads to reduced appetite and weight loss, even when other health indicators like blood work appear normal; veterinary dental examinations are essential to diagnose and treat these underlying oral problems that may be mistaken for other health conditions.

Prayers for Buck and Koda 🙏🙏🙏Added:
I know. Hi, buddy.
I've got Buck Buck, Miss Coda.
What are you doing back there, Tiny Terror? You along for support?
Yeah, you are, bud.
We've got a big day for these two, Mr. Buck and Miss Coda.
Um both of them are here for dentals today, both for different very different reasons, although similar symptoms. Um and you guys know exactly uh how worried I get with these guys. You know, we fine-tune their their uh meals every single day.
Um so that I can tell the moment somebody's not eating. Uh and then I can diagnose as to why they're not eating. Some days they just don't eat for, you know, whatever purposes, but uh if it goes for an extended period of time, then you start to worry.
Buck Buck and Coda have both been experiencing this lately. Both have lost a lot of weight, and of course that makes me worried.
Um but we know for the culprit for sure.
We'll start with you, Buck. We know where the culprit is for sure. Buck's got Buck needs a dental badly. So badly, I believe that, you know, he's developed this off-and-on cough, especially when he gets excited. Um He's very doing very good this morning.
He's coughed a little bit getting in the car, but we're doing good. I'm worried that could be a um a side effect from having bacteria going down his throat into his respiratory system. Not usually a big deal, especially if you fix it, unless there's a heart condition underneath.
No, it's okay. And he's watching the puppies leave the No, don't get excited.
See, there you go.
Um and it's normally not a big deal once you get the teeth fixed. However, as we know, Buck just went in for his cardiology exam, and you know, the concern with him is he's got a grade five heart murmur, five to six, and that's why we had to get him checked out with an echo first, just to make sure he can even undergo surgery.
So, we're going to take the chance. So, in a nutshell, he's I'm hoping this cough will be eradicated once he he his dental done, um and that is not related directly to his heart. Uh, we'll find out for sure here in about what, a week or so at the most I would think. It should clear up completely at that point.
Um, but it is very concerning. It's going to be a very stressful day for me knowing how delicate he is, um, just making sure he pulls through surgery. So, definitely need prayers for the big guy today. Right, big man?
And then Coda, she's a little different.
Um, you know, she's young, she's healthy, and her teeth, uh, don't look that bad.
Um, but she has been going through this period over the last several weeks of not wanting to eat. Now that she is fine It was about a week and a half where she didn't want to eat at all, and she dropped some weight and it scared me to death. We got her in, we did blood work, we couldn't figure out why.
You know, she's experienced this once in the past a little over a year ago, and the simple solution was, "Oh my goodness, she's got Giardia." Well, let's go ahead and kick that out and deworm her.
So, we dewormed her again just out of a precaution, and, you know, nothing changed. Then, I noticed that she was still trying to eat. It wasn't like she had no interest. She was trying to eat.
She was interested, but then she just kind of pick around it. Almost as if it looked as if she had, um, you know, some kind of pain or some kind of discomfort.
So, I brought her in for the looking at the dental, and even doctors Dr. Owen said he's like, you know, she's I mean, she's got some calculus. We should probably get her in. So, the only thing I can think of is maybe she's got a whole cavity in there, a whole, you know, how we get, you know, it doesn't have to be a whole yuck mouth for them to feel discomfort. Maybe she's got an exposed nerve or something and they're going to find it in there today.
Um, the good news for her is that even though she's much slower at eating, which is not something I'm used to with her. She's definitely a She's a chow hound. That's why she's in group number one cuz they come in and they just demolish their food. Um, but lately she's been sitting in there and I'll have to actually move her down when the rest of the group is done, and she'll take anywhere from two to the entire morning feeding to finish her food. But over the last week she has done that. Took her out for treats, and of course she wolfed those down.
So, I know there's the desire to eat.
There's nothing internal that's messing her up. There's nothing on her blood work messing her up. So, it's got to be It's got to be something in her mouth.
But, of course it's it's stressful to see somebody that you watch eat regularly at a certain pace and a certain fashion and then to just kind of pick through it. And of course then on top of that lose weight cuz they're not eating as much.
So, she's already on the mend, but still still messing around with that. And I'm really You know, I'm not so worried about you. You're a tough, strong girl.
You should do fine under anesthesia today. Daddy's still going to worry about you. Um but, the focus is going to be on the big man.
And Tiny, you're just here for moral support both for them and for Daddy on the way home. I figured I could use you today, big guy.
So, we're going to get these guys in here. Prayers for both of them today, especially my old man Buck. I know he looks so worried, baby boy. But, you're going to be all better after this. I promise. You're going to be happier.
You're going to be excited. And you're going to be my big man again. Yes, you are. Let's do this, guys.
