Fuel prices across India were hiked again today, marking the fourth increase in less than 2 weeks. Petrol prices rose by 2.61 rupees per liter, while diesel increased by 2.71 rupees per liter.
[music] Since revisions resumed on the 15th of May, cumulative hikes have now reached around 7.5 rupees.
In fact, among Indian cities, Hyderabad currently records the highest petrol price, standing at 115.73 rupees per liter.
With diesel at 103.82.
Close behind is Thiruvananthapuram, where petrol costs 115.49 rupees. Diesel is in the highest range in the country at 104.41 per liter. Among metros, Kolkata remains one of the most expensive. Mumbai follows, where petrol is priced at 111.21 rupees. In contrast, New Delhi continues to offer some relief due to lower VAT, with petrol at 102.12 rupees and diesel at 95.20 rupees per liter. At the other end At the end of the spectrum, Chandigarh remains the cheapest major city for petrol, priced at 101.54 rupees per liter, and diesel significantly lower at 86.47 [music] rupees.
The wide variation in fuel prices across cities continuing to be driven largely by differences in the state-level taxes.
And as the fuel shock hits different parts of India, let's just take a look at the reactions coming in from on the ground.
I did expected I was expecting price rise of almost 20 rupees and I think this is very minimum the government has to increase. So, I don't think there is any effect on the sales. It has already impacted not just diesel and petrol fuel but many other things have already impacted. To the people like to the citizens of India it is really impacting because our economy is dependent on fuel.
So, I think it's a point of concern.
With the fuel prices going up for the fourth time since mid-May, very soon the real impact could be seen on your household kitchen items.
When we visited few of the shops here in Mumbai, what we came to know that the prices for your daily essential commodities like milk, vegetables, all of it has increased marginally by 5 to 10% which the shopkeepers say they have yet not passed down to the consumers.
But very soon because of the fuel prices that is increasing every now and then, the transportation cost is also increasing. Due to that 40% of the cost for the shopkeepers will very soon go up which will be passed down to the consumers that is you. So, the prices of the vegetables, milk, the daily essential items that you use on your household kitchen will soon be increased is what the experts have warned in the coming days.
