Small car dealerships must establish minimum price points to maintain financial viability, as selling vehicles at the lowest price point (e.g., £1,495) can result in insufficient profit margins after accounting for preparation costs, MOT expenses, and potential post-sale issues, even when the dealer invests significant effort and care into each vehicle.

She Bought My Car… Then THIS HappenedAdded:
[music] [music] Hello and welcome back to the channel.
Uh, little update video for you.
I wish I could say there was been a great deal of good news, but there hasn't unfortunately.
Uh had to make some big decisions that I didn't want to make. Uh but we will cover that in the video. Uh but what we'll do is we'll do our usual. We'll go outside and we'll have a good chinwag.
So, what has been happening?
As I said, not a great deal.
Not a great deal at all.
Uh, saleswise, it has been great. Uh, what I'll do is we'll start lighthearted and we'll start with the good news. The obvious one is we are missing a 2010 Reynold Twingo that sold Tuesday, I believe it was.
Was it Tuesday?
Yes, it was. It was Tuesday. I'm sure it was. Don't even know what day it is today to be honest with you. That sold.
Uh, not a great deal happening with Yudi. Not a great deal happening with Yavio. And again, not a great deal happening with note. Did have a subscriber down uh bank holiday had a viewing on this wanted to go away and have a think about it. Haven't heard back from him, but you know, he said if he didn't buy this one, he would buy a car from in the future. So hopefully we get to see him again soon. Uh you will forgive us. I can't remember your name, but I'm sure you're watching it. I know who you know who you are. Uh, movements have been made. Obviously, the 12 plate bingo is now out here with a price board in the window. It's still awaiting preparation, but it isn't a million million miles away.
Had a a good buff up, things like that.
uh MOT work, wheelbearing, brake pipe, power steering, motor had a squib. This unfortunately it's quite a rare twingo in that. I'm not too sure if you can make it out. I have locked it, but it has cruise control. Not many people in the world, I'm sure, when they were buying rental twingo brand new would have ticked the tick the box of cruise control. Somebody did on this one. They made finding the squip which you know admittedly I broke it. You I was trying to diagnose a tight spot in the steering. Forgot that things disconnect and just started twiddling the steering wheel around and round and breaking the box spring inside. That was genius. Had a look online readily available but for about 40 quid but none of them were the right ones cuz they didn't have cruise control. So I had to get one from Spain, one from Espanol, which was £100. That was a good mistake.
I got obviously center caps there off.
They need painting, but it's had loads of work done to it, service and everything like that. Uh it just needs the tire that it was advised on and an MOT and then that is ready to go. So, probably get moving with that soon. Uh, the MG, I have been doing things with the MG as well. Uh, I'm not too sure whether it'll come across on camera or not cuz it was bright anyway, but it is as bright as a penny now cuz I took it off sale cuz I was going to get it. I've had it. It's got 12 months with no advisories.
I've done some nicer bits like underssealed the subframe and back axle because they were rotten. They were just a bit crusty. You know, it is a cheaper Chinese car at the end of the day unfortunately. So, I don't know whether China is like Japan and don't salt the roads more than likely will be. But I've just done a little bit of tidying up underneath. It's now got 12 month with no advisories and I gave it a good old buff up which I'm sure as you can see there's some good beading going on there. It has had a good buff and it's nice tidy car. It's a nice tidy car anyway but uh it just kind of lifted it that much more. Uh which was which was a nice thing to do.
Uh to as you will see has sold uh on paper a great deal. Uh obviously getting the full ask price of 4295. I'm taking part exchange the 16 plate feed 500x which is the most money I've ever given for a part exchange 3549 to be exact. I'm getting 750 quid and a car.
great on paper. In terms of cash flow and the old bank account, not so much.
Uh, which is a shame in a sense cuz cash flows really kicking me in the old plums at the minute. But a deal is a deal. And when I come out the end of it, I should be sitting pretty. But it's just having that patience and just waiting for that whole deal to conclude. Now, another thing that hasn't been getting mentioned in the updates lately is this second thing.
I hate modern cars. I like old cars.
Simple things. This thing has been a right pain in the backside for one reason and one reason only. Stop start coming up saying that it's got a stop start. I'll put a battery on. It didn't fix it. Turns out on the negative terminal actually I'll go get the keys and I'll show you.
Yes. So, as I was saying, it's been a nightmare. So, it's had a new battery on. It actually had a a decent battery on it. I fitted it thinking that was a problem. This is actually the third battery I've put on cuz when I took it to the garage originally, they said the battery you put on, I put on a a Brennan, I think it's called.
They tested it, wasn't fantastic, but they said, and it's it's not really a good brand battery, and they can be quite picky these things. So, you really should be putting on a decent battery. I even went to the extent of putting a WASA battery on, which is what they should have had from the factory.
Obviously, just without the Nissan badge on it, and then just put the icing on the cake as well. The parts company wouldn't accept the Brennan battery as being faulty because they tested it and it's fine. So, now I'm stuck with that battery as well. So, I've got three good batteries for this car. So, if you got a Nissan Micron, you have for a good battery.
Give us a shout. Uh, it's on my life. Yeah, this is what it's had done to this thing. What it does, I do not know. But what it was telling the car is it was making the voltage come across all goofy on the live data and it was spiking. It was jumping up and down which wasn't which was causing the stop start not to work which is fantastic isn't it? It is is fant I [ __ ] hate stop start. Stop start and tire pressure monitoring. Two systems the cars have that they do not need. Absolute waste of time. They don't make anybody's life better and they just end up costing a fortune when they go wrong. And because [snorts] I am a car dealer, I can't get them get the stop start mapped out or the tire pressure and mocked out mapped out or anything like that.
I don't like it. Next time I see a Nissan because these uh from the research I've been doing since this problem, these are very very picky stop start systems. But guess what? Next time I see one, I'm going say no thank you.
just don't I don't have the time for it really. Uh and just another kicker for it while I drop this me bonnet using me noggin is I actually had a deal lined up for this car. I had a deal lined up for it and end up falling through because of the stop start.
[sighs] So me and this car were not on good terms. Uh, but it still needs testing because I did get it back from the garage. It flagged up saying there was a fault. It was acting differently how it was how it was acting originally.
But since it's been back out of the garage, it's not chucked up any faults.
Uh, so I just need to test drive it and hope and pray that it's fine, which is just fantastic. You know, crossing me fingers and me toes that everything is all right with it. But I'm looking I'm kind of looking forward to the day that this thing is gone from my life.
You know, it looks expensive because it's an automatic.
I'm just I'm a bit fed up with it to be honest with you. So that is pretty much all we wrote throughout on the far court problems as always. Uh most of them have given me absolutely no issues whatsoever apart from the micro just yeah we'll go back into the workshop and we'll see what's been happening there now.
So one of the things that has been happening back here is prep work of the Mariva.
Uh it has been getting buffed up which I'm sure You can see uh it still needs finishing off. Uh mechanically wise it is there. We've had decent pads all around.
New exhaust flexi um other bits and pieces. Service bore and stuff like that. Nothing too major. All really needs now go down for anote and a tire. Uh but nice car again.
Uh yeah, it's it's just that really, isn't it? It's a nice car. It's a good family car for somebody. Uh yeah, it's it's quite boring because again, it's not giving me any issues.
It's been relatively straightforward if I'm being completely honest with you.
It does have a couple of little marks on it still. It won't polish out. Uh a few little bits here and there. There's a a bit up here. It's basically off where the birds cracked on it basically and it hasn't been cleaned off. So, it's just kind of damaged the lacquer a little bit, but it's an old car at the end of the day. I can't make it perfect. So, I've made it as good as I can make it.
And that's about that really. H out the back.
Uh I don't even know what's been happening out here. Uh we're practically empty.
It's good news. Um nothing's happened with me cave at the minute. Uh just waiting uh a call on when that can go down for its head gasket. H Adam has gone down for its timing chain. Uh my heart was in my mouth when I started up. Hadn't been started up for a few weeks and it was rattling like a gun. It really was. It started making me nervous. H but it quietened itself down. So I was quite nervous thinking that it was going to end up jumping time or something like that. Uh haven't done anything with the datacy or anything like that. I'm sorry.
Back here is probably is a bit of a boring update. Still waiting on the log book for the modus. Actually applied for the log book for the van finally. Uh that's about it really. Back here. One thing I would show you is how me waiting room's getting on. I haven't updated you as to what's happening in here, but it's starting to look like, I'm being honest, a bit of a geek's haven, which yeah, it pretty much is. I've been buying some little figures in memorabilia and things like that from Star Wars. I'm a big Star Wars fan.
There are some other bits in me cabinets. Got some models, things like that. I do have a shelf missing from here. I've got this little beauty.
If I open the cabinet up, smoking and the bandit transm.
That's a nice little piece.
Then more Star Wars bits.
Even a Tracy Island set as well. That is all in the box and original. It's not seagled unfortunately, but it is all still in the box and original. That's quite a desirable piece. And then movie bits and things like that and a few other little model cars and things like that.
It's looking a lot nicer in here. Oh, I can't forget the iron giant money box as well that I showed you just last week. I do have these as well. Might as well.
While we're here, uh, [gasps] I do have a set of Mark 7 or Mark 6 depending on whereabouts you're based. Uh, you only need the Mark 7 in this country if I'm not mistaken. Memory searching correctly. These are off a ZTEC S. All freshly powder coated in matte black and they look very very nice. [snorts] I do have them up for sale as well. £250 considering it cost £200 for a refurb.
I think getting yourself a bit of a deal there. So if you are looking for a set, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. You'll find my contact details on my Facebook page. And another thing I forgot to show you is nice little mat.
Did all the design work on that myself and that looks really nice. I'm really proud.
It's due a bit of a clean. Like it's got some footprints on it, but that really sets the place off really nice.
So, I'm really sorry.
There's not been a lot happening around here the last week or so.
And it's getting to me a little bit. I'll admit that. It's I love what I do, but when it's not all going to plan, it's it's hard to It's a bit of pill to swallow really.
But it'll come good. I have no doubts about that.
Unfortunately, it all comes down to outside factors. And I'll be honest, this is probably going to be the only political opinion you will hear on this channel. Uh, this essentially comes down to the fact that the people running this country couldn't get laid in a brothel with a fistful of 20s.
They are that useless. Uh, and that's just What it comes down to, if I'm being completely honest with you, is once upon a time in this country, people would when it came to local elections and general elections and things like that, maybe it's had a bit of faith in who they were voting for.
uh potentially [laughter] uh so they they weren't concerned too much and didn't cling on to the money but now it seems to be a running theme of every time the government want to do something everybody just stops clings on tight to the money because they think it's all going to disappear.
Uh but I don't blame people for doing that.
they're doing the right thing essentially because I don't trust them either. But we'll skip over the rest of that before we start a thing. Uh I did mention at the start about a big decision has been made and a big decision that I didn't really want to make but unfortunately it's just forcing my hand way too much.
Cheap cars.
The cheapest cars I retail are 1495.
I am getting kicked in the knackers left, right, and center with them cheap cars. I really am. And I'm sorry. And I know there people out there that love to see that sort of content. I love to do that sort of content, but it's just getting to a point now where as a business, it's just not viable. I sold that Pringo a day or two ago, I made couple hundred quid on it, which after spending 800 pound getting it through it, well, if you include the MOT, about £840 on it, get it through an MOT.
And I only bought the car for like 300 and something quid. Uh it it that just makes it even harder to do cuz you just can't get the margins in. And then I get a message from the lady who bought it saying she's having a problem that it's apparently jumping out of second gear.
So I need to go have a look at that tonight.
It's just really, it is just really making it hard to do.
So, I've had to make the decision that I will no longer be selling cars at that price point. My minimum price point is going to have to be 1995.
It's tough because that little bit I know it doesn't maybe seem like much for that extra £500 is giving me a bit more room to move cuz I'll be straight for what you generally what you're paying for 1495 card and a 1995 car there's not really a lot of difference.
I paid £300 and some pound for that twingo. There's an Audi out there that I got a good deal on of £450.
I've probably put I've put less work into the Audi, less investment, and at the end of the day, it's probably going to return me more as well. Uh, compared to the Twingo, which actually Let's be fair as as long as it's not say for instance something the the lady is doing. She maybe is not doing something right. Maybe it's not going into gear. She's not putting in gear properly. She's she could be doing something. It's a new car.
She is learning how to use it essentially.
Uh, so yeah, I'm not going to be doing them sort of cars anymore. I just I can't. I really can't. And it pains me pains me to do so. Cuz I love them cheap little cars. I really do.
That Twingo is the only one that has really stuck around [snorts] a little bit. Normally they're in and out. Soon as you get them prep, you put them up for sale go for sale for two or three days and they're gone.
if I'm being honest with you. And then that kind of makes up for the fact of how little money you're making. And I'll be honest with you, the last few really really haven't made a great deal out of them whatsoever. Uh the prime example when I got that I think that had 1800 margin in it. Spent about 925 quid on it.
Uh, so I'm still going to be making money out of it obviously on paper, not straight away cuz I need to get rid of I need to sort out exchange.
But at the end of the day, when it comes down to it, it's all going to be there and good to go moneywise, whereas you're not getting that with the others with the cheap cars. Uh, but it's hard, but it is what it is.
Unfortunately, if I could do it, I would, but I can't.
Just can't do it anymore. It's not financially viable. And unfortunately, I've got to put my big boy pants on sometimes. And that's just got to be the case.
Financially, I can't do it. And mentally, I can't do it. It's so draining. put in a lot. I don't differ from the effort that I put in from that from that twingo to the teeth, but you all got the same amount of care and attention in the preparation.
So, it's it's just mentally destroying as well when not only they go wrong, but there's there's nothing gained from it.
I just wanted to add this in as well.
Uh, I have just come back from checking out the Twingo.
Yeah. So, I I'll tell you the beginning of the story is the lady bought it as a bit of a stop gap cuz she had a relatively new car that she bought from elsewhere and she was having nothing but problems with it and she was wanting to return it.
So, she's messaged me saying there's a problem with the car. I've gone to have a look at it. I've pulled up and lo and behold, she's just getting out of a 69 plate Sang Yong.
So, she's clearly got a car back.
[sighs and gasps] So, there was a couple of things had me spidey senses tingling. Yeah, you you learn to develop these things when you been doing car sales for some time. One thing she said when she was initially viewing the car was, "Oh, my brother's in car sales. He was he's down in Wales and I've spoke to him and he told me X Y and said about these cars and you know I want to have a look at them." She was looking at the Twingo and the Avio.
Uh, so that set me spy senses tingling because she'll be a lot more knowledgeable when it comes to the rights and things like that than just general public. So that kind of piqu me like tweaked me interest just a little bit.
And then uh so when she messages I thought right we'll come down I'll have a look and I will confirm the faults. Not a problem.
get in the car obviously after she's got out this brand new relatively brand new Sangyong which is also an automatic as it so happens as well. Uh, I give it test drive.
I'm in second majority of the time.
Probably is when I shouldn't be in second really. Didn't jump out. It did didn't do nothing. She said she pulled up at a junction. She couldn't get it out of gear. Uh, so she had to knock it off, put like take her foot off the clutch, get it out of gear, and then driveway. And then it kept on jumping out of gear.
>> [clears throat] >> Uh, so I couldn't find any faults and then she said something as well.
They kind of tweak them. Spidey sensored a little bit. She was say, "Oh, we'll we'll just keep it.
We'll we'll use it as a second car."
So, that kind of tweaked them Spidey sensors just a little bit. So, what I'm thinking is she's gone and bought the car. She's took it home. Wherever the car's been getting sorted, they've rang says, "Fix your car. You'll have to come and get it." And she's gone.
[ __ ] So, then she's I don't know what confused. She then tried to kick it back to me so I'd have to buy it back. That's what I'm thinking's happened. I could be wrong, but in my experience, if it looks like [ __ ] and it smells like [ __ ] it's [ __ ] basically.
So, that's what I am thinking. Still doesn't change my attitude towards 1,500 cars or the cheaper end stuff. I'll still be moving forward doing a minimum of 1995, but [sighs] it's been on my mind all day that as well. It's absolutely ruined my day.
Thanks.
We're in more lighter news. We did have a visitor today. H subscriber Keith dropped by and we had a good old chinwag for I want to say about an hour just chatting on about old cars and all the problems that you tend to have with them. So, thank you for dropping by, Keith.
Uh, it was lovely seeing you and you never know if you fancy calling around for another chin wagon in the future or if you're wanting to trade in your Astro or something like that and looking to get something new, give us a shout. I'm more than happy to accommodate you. Uh, but other than that, all I've got to say is thank you for watching and thank you for listening to me moan on for a moment. It was needed. Uh, all the usual links will be in the description and down below you'll find me on Facebook, Instagram, and Tik Tok under the name Fosters Car Sales. You'll also find a link down to my website, which I do desperately need to update. Sorry about that. But if you can, while you're also down there, if you hit that like and subscribe button, it will help the channel out massively. Other than that, all I've got to say is thank you for watching and I will catch you on the next one.
