[00:00:13]office conference room press conference viewers students related concerning issues good afternoon to all the members of the press. We have called this press conference today to address some issues confronting the student communities. I will briefly highlight on what the issues are. One is the impos uh compulsory imposition of Sanskrit in all the CBC schools in uh Netherland. The other one is uh the shifting of the Hindi institute to uh another place by the government of Nagland and the some uh the government middle school Midland as well. Uh to begin with uh we we the we want to express our strong opposition to the any move which seeks to uh compulsory compulsorily impose Sanskrit uh in the schools of Nagland.

[00:01:37]We want to also categorically state that we are not in opposition to the uh Sanskrit as a language. We respect each language like uh Nagland uh India is a diverse country and there are many languages. We respect each languages but we as we all know Nagland is a unique state. Uh it it it is a home to uh various tribe and all the tribe speaks different languages and unlike other states like for for example just like our neighbor Assam they have a common language and other states also they have a common language but in Nagland we do not have a common language.

[00:02:21]We also get a representation to the governor in regard to this matter and we want to ask a simple question.

[00:02:32]If the students are already learning English and in some cases Hindi and local languages, so why is it now necessary to uh impose Sanskrit language in our state?

[00:02:46]We also want to urge the government to uh before implementing such policies which affect the culture and education it must be friend after proper consultation with the student bodies with the parents and with the people of the state because imposing Sanskrit in nagland I don't think we don't think it is feasible and therefore we urge the common uh we urge the concern authorities and we demand that withdraw any proposal to make Sanskrit language in Nagaland.

[00:03:25]We we also urge the consular trades to consult students, educators, tribal bodies and civil society before implementing such policies. strengthen initiatives for the preservation and promotion of indigenous Naga languages and ensure that learning language learning remains a matter of choice rather than compulsion. [00:18:12]Learning new language is important. We do know that. Now see as far as I am not wrong education is based on three language policies English, Hindi and Marata especially for tribal people. Now the constitution itself even in education policy national education policy they are to they are to safeguard their linguistic heritage heritage now when it comes to nagalm Hindi itself is a burden for us no honestly I'm saying English since time Britishers time they all over education system English Hindi a medium of communication for the majority of the Indian No true music, movies, media, both printing and visuals. Now still then for the people like us it's getting hard.

[00:19:05]We do understand the importance they want to be a translator. They get a job. They want to learn Japanese language, Chinese language. It's okay.

[00:19:23]But even for optional teacher experience accret number of teachers for the student tell me where available even teachers teachers are there. We are not against learning a new language. We are just think why not make it compulsory because students already learning different you know languages for them English say Hindi itself is very hard for them there are so many other subjects you know just now finalizing National policy it dictates that no language should be imposed as well.

[00:20:36]Why are they imposing especially in Nland where it is regional languages we use and English? [clears throat] >> Right. So is that what you're saying that the government over here in Netherland should go with the NEP 2020?

[00:20:50]>> See when the constitution itself is to safeguard their linguistic heritage for our Angami, Sunumi, Puri, Rangma all these tribe have different language and the constitution itself said that we will promote protect the linguistic heritage. Huh? So by making it compulsory are we burdening our student to stop learning their pot language to sing language and focus on Sanskrit? No, that is not the way to it cannot be imposed.

[00:21:21]If anybody wants to learn Sanskrit for sure they can but keeping in mind but that subject is not compulsory but an optional governor in case they don't know their schools their students their parents they should cooperate with us of course there are there are many parents who is willing to cooperate Maybe at times if we have the democrat democratic for education we never know but that should be the last phase of our education.

[00:22:01]Do you think it is politically involving also in Netherland to send uh people from the center to teach English uh sorry Sanskrit in institutes and open Sanskrit institutes institutes over here just like we've heard in the past for certain universities that are RSS backed and there were uh claims of allegations of that. See see unless there is a facts and evidence proof uh there is proof I do not want to give my opinion on on that part but politics involves everywhere politics involves no doubt that I can guarantee I can assure you all that politics involves even in DSU even in small business session even in CSOS or host or any political party even among the department there's politics going on that's for sure for some self self uh you know selfish motives or whatsoever so but no doubt no doubt But whatever policy they make if that is affecting huh that that is affecting you know uh the nagas as a student community as a community it is our duty to protect and safeguard the interest of the community right so we are doing our part now they talking about these slogans of these nos and stickers I want to put Jesus Christ on my forehead I will keep it now they cannot just b it now so that that's a different thing but no matter what they do we are educated we should know when to voice it necessary doesn't mean that but any policies that is not safeguarding that is not for the interest of the citizens I think we should voice out yeah >> would you say the same with one day mam I'll tell you this thing okay in my point of view I'll tell you see Christian is a monotistic religion I hope I'm using this monotistic a group of people that believe in the existence of only one god Okay. So when you go to wand m point of view one day mang there should be a differences between being a patriotic okay being a patriotic okay and uh differences between patriotic and religion. Okay patriotic is doing your civic duty and loyalty to the nation. It should not impose to recite some religious personification to prove your loyalty to the nation. A person can be anist but he can be a loyal to the nation.

[00:24:23]And my point of view as a Christian we believe only in one god and we we worship and believe in the of one god and we shall take the name of only one god that is our god and we cannot take the name of other god. So it is against so we respect but I can sing whole day all night long honestly but anything that is mentioned okay if it's all inclusive now so that is my point of view I am not authority to say but that's my point of view and that is why the most of the people are against it so yeah that is it in supplementing what the president has said regarding the imposition of sun so he say that it might have a color of RSS first difficulties CBSC affiliated school foreign language Hindi we are learning the [clears throat] language the new language language which is new to us. Now again coming back street two language which is totally alien for us totally new to us. Now as we say our president and our other projects say localanguage Allah practically impossible teachers practically institution CBSC school they they cannot afford to pay the train you know situ language teachers also even seal whatever local dialect see NBC they try to impose but practical technical difficulties.

[00:27:47]Now we not only that we want to appeal to the chief minister of Daland and all the concerned ministers of Netherlandra please since it concerns our identity and future of our student and all the and what the MPs of also please you impress upon the union minister to ensure that the unique identity of the nagas is respected and no imposition of another second language is being uh piled up against our students. If they want to bring solution, you are not the right body. You are not authorized. Honestly, you cannot make the right body. District education officer I say education department I say now concern ministers in MLS that is holding the post of education direct office NPC say if you really talk about if you really talk about the procedures and the authority right no cos no angels has the right to take we are only a pressure group though because for development n for tribal affairs there's tribal affairs ministers and department example education. everyone but apart from that again there's other governing body governing body to be out of the system and pressure department concern especially below parents.

[00:40:42]When it comes to accommodation, beyond example 40 class 200. So they cannot accommodate everyone out of school. There are so many middle school who is wanting to take student from this middle class family this prosection of the section they giving 50% Primary school of studying in government college what's the meaning of government Government making use of other government responsib they should be a responsible citizen.

[00:42:44]So do you like to comment on this students coming from poor backgrounds just in hopes you know their parents are sending but they're exploited.
