The Entire World LITERALLY Was Fighting This Weekend Over Swatch × AP Collab WatchAdded:
All right, YouTube, YouTube, what is up?
Man, it's your boy Dan D back with another video, back with another banger.
Now, today's video is going to be it's going to be related to sneakers in a sense that since sneakers are not selling out since sneakers really don't have a high value market in the resale market because a lot of collab shoes that are recently being released, they ain't hitting on nothing. Like resellers ain't really making no money like that. Like there's no [clears throat] shoes that you can get that you can make $400, $600, $700 like that anymore cuz back in the day even GR shoes well, I say back in the day like 10 years ago, you could get $200, just off of GR shoes. And nobody's paying that much for GR shoes and GR shoes are not reselling for crazy amounts. So, these resellers that was depending on the sneaker game, they got to go somewhere else.
And now they're doing like Funko Pops Pokemon cards, you know, they're doing anything to to make up for the money that they're losing off of sneakers. So, now a new thing is this AP watch thing. Now, Elliot Page is going to give me more details on this situation.
He's going to break down like how resellers are now not focused on sneakers, they focus on anything and everything. So, now just this past weekend like AP had a release had some watch release and all the sneaker sneaker resellers they went crazy over this and how resellers is starting to shift sneakers resellers are starting to shift to other things. A Royal Oak Audemars Piguet watch costs in the tens of thousands of dollars and that's the starting price.
Now Now, I don't know nothing about these watches cuz I don't I don't wear watches. You know, I don't wear watches and nothing like that, but I know what a AP watch is, but you know, I don't really pay attention to it cuz I don't I don't wear no watches at all. Of course they [snorts] play into that whole Hermes bag type thing where you can't just walk into an AP store and buy one.
Typically, you need some kind of relationship or built up with the store where you've bought a bunch of other products as well. Nevertheless, the prospect of an affordable Audemars Piguet watch, Royal Oak specifically, gets people going crazy. The internet is flooded with posts about this, people talking about this, and more specifically, AI images of what this watch looks like. You can see here we've got a bunch of different colors.
Basically like a plastic version of the AP Royal Oak. They post out the estimated price points between $300 and $500, which I mean, you know, if you can get this versus a $30,000 AP watch, people are foaming at the mouth about this idea. So you got posts like this, and keep in mind this is all AI. People with it on their wrists were posting it just for fun. You've got even more complex versions like this which showcase like there's actual metal screws in there. And what's weird is like some of these AI posts kind of make it like it's actually real. Like this one just basically stating, "Yeah, the the collaboration looks pretty cool.
Going to get one for me and my wife."
It's like, "This is not real." You've got a bunch of people who can actually And this is why I don't like AI. This is why I don't like AI at all cuz you don't know what's real and what's fake. You know, I I I know a lot of people use it.
Y'all think it's cute. Nah, man. I Listen, y'all don't get the bigger picture with AI, but y'all see.
affordable AP watches saying like, "Oh, this is terrible because it's going to destroy AP's brand image. And now that I bought this $50,000 watch or whatever, now they're releasing these affordable ones." But the craziest part is with all of this AI hype that was drummed up for this watch, people started queuing outside of Swatch stores globally. Keep in mind, it's still 6 days out from the official launch on the 16th. These people are queuing up not knowing what this watch actually looks like. People were selling line spots for two to $600.
But then on May 12th, Swatch and AP officially showcased the product, and it is not like any of those AI renders. It is in fact a pocket watch. is a video of them that they posted this on May the 12th, and you can see that it's it's literally a plastic pocket watch. This is what it looks like. A plastic pocket watch? What the hell? Like I'm pretty sure the screws are also plastic and they come in all these fun colors, which people Listen, I don't know nothing about watches, and another I remember pocket watches. That's like old school.
That's like old old school. line started roasting the resellers that were sat in these lines 6 days before the release.
They announced a price point between 4 and 420 dollars. And honestly, the internet's reaction to this was brutal.
They started calling the resellers clowns and that this is a freaking toy.
And this is where you think that the story ends, right? Okay, it's a freaking pocket watch. Nobody wants this.
Everybody in the comments is clowning anybody who's in line ready to buy this.
But the lines don't disappear. They only get crazier. And that brings us to May the 16th where this unfolds. This is a cute So, May the 16th, that was over this past weekend. Look at all these people.
All these people. Since since sneakers not reselling, now they going after watches.
from Thailand and we're going to go across the globe just to show you how insane this stuff is. Look at these people climbing over each other outside of a Swatch store. This one's in Thailand. I mean, imagine being in the center of this. That is insane. This is what the queue looks like outside of the Swatch store in Du Damn, that's crazy.
I'm going to see if I can find this so I can get a better visual of it.
Where is it?
Dubai, I believe. Oh my lord. And then the release got canceled because I mean, this is just dangerous. This is Battersea Power Station in London. All of these people running through the shopping mall to get to the Swatch store. This is India, the Mumbai store.
This is I think the manager of the Swatch store basically telling people that they're shutting it down because of look at this. This is insane. This is Okay, so hold on. I got I got some I got some video stuff that that that that I can play right here.
