vlog | introvert diaries: spring light, milky perfume & old booksHinzugefügt:
The day started quite cloudy and rainy, so I made coffee at home and worked on my crossword puzzle. I've been really into that lately, and I find that it's a good way to start or end my day while staying off my phone. You also get to learn new words and random trivia, which I also like. For breakfast, I kept it easy with a blueberry muffin I had made a few days ago.
By the time I added a few more answers to my puzzle, the sun seemed to want to come out. So, I got ready and walked downtown to run a few errands.
I've been adding cream bronzer and blush back into my routine recently, and I like that it gives me a subtle glow. I wanted to go to Sephora and sample some more Rhode lip pencils and maybe get a darker one to contour my lips with. I'm still really loving their new pink blush for spring.
The fragrance that day was the new MiuMiu release Fleur de Lait. It's so delicious and reminds me of sticky mango rice. I feel like I'll wear it a lot this summer.
I kept my look simple with a sweater, some loose jeans, and a pair of black loafers. I grabbed my trench coat in case it rained again and headed out.
After grabbing a few things at Sephora, I walked to a cafe nearby and sat there for an hour enjoying my matcha and croissant while reading a few pages of The Lost Estate. I'm just a few chapters in, but I'm enjoying it so far.
On my walk back home, I stopped at the used bookstore and ended up getting a copy of Frankenstein, which I'll probably only read later this fall.
So, as part of trying to be comfortable in the uncomfortable, I want to do a bit more face to camera chitchats. and I thought I could tell you about the latest book I read, which is The Bird's Nest by Shirley Jackson. Actually, it's not the latest, but it's one that I've finished since doing my last book review. Hopefully, I can get a bit more comfortable speaking to camera and just trying to be comfortable in the uncomfortable through exposure therapy, if you will. So,The Bird's Nest, we follow Elizabeth who works at a museum. She's kind of just going through life. She's not really interested in anything. She's a bit dull. She's not that interesting either. Until some mysterious migraines and backaches send her to the doctor's office and psychologist or psychiatrist, psychiatrist, I think.
And we end up discovering that she has multiple personality disorder and we get to meet her other personalities and from there a few things happen. They all have their own personalities and their own quirks. One thing I really love about Shirley Jackson is she's not afraid to explore human emotions and what it means to be human. And her characters are never fully good or fully bad, which makes you like and dislike them at the same time. She's kind of just letting you have it and decide for yourself what you think of the characters and what happens to them, which I really like. To compare it with the second book that I read after this, which is a French book, and it hasn't been translated to English, so I won't deep dive into it. But the other book I read last month, the plot was super interesting, but the delivery was too on the nose for me. It's like there's no room for imagination or there's no room to really process what the characters are saying or what they're going through basically and it's kind of just everything is explicitly said and that's not the case with Shirley Jackson. If you've read any of her books you would know she's just really good at letting you decide for yourself which I really like. So yeah thank you for watching. I hope you enjoyed. I'm sorry if this was a bit too rambly for you.
I think as I get more comfortable, it will be more fluid. I think I've said this before, but my first language is French. So, I think in French, then translate it in my head and then it comes out. So, sometimes I'm looking for my words or I make mistakes. But yeah, hopefully I'll get better and you guys liked it and I'll see you in the next one. Bye
