‘Complete waste of time’: Trump praised for walking out on NBC ‘activists’

[00:00:00]Sean, yesterday I played this well to call it an interview would would be uh be a lie that NBC tried to conduct with Donald Trump, which reminded me that the media coverage in the US of Trump is so hostile. Now, this one with the NBC ended up with him walking out. Here is just some of it.

[00:00:27]Let's talk about >> there's tremendous evidence. There's nothing but evidence. The election was rigged. It was a dirty election and it's happening again right now in California.

[00:00:36]>> Presented evidence now in California right now. It's looking at look at what's happening to that.

[00:00:44]>> It's the Republicans are doing well in California.

[00:00:46]>> In California Sean Spicer, the president walked out after a couple more minutes of that heckling, that berating, that argument. Like I say, no way could you call that an interview. The reporter there seemed really determined to argue with him and impress her colleagues. I don't know what was going through her mind. You were Donald Trump's White House spokesman. Is this interview illustrative of anything to you?

[00:01:15]>> You know, we could spend 25 minutes going over this because number one, I I'm a little bummed that he actually agreed to do this in the first place.

[00:01:22]I've seen this movie on Meet the Press with Kristen Welker in particular. I don't know how you ever thought it was going to turn out differently. And there's a thing about Trump that I want to make like he he always wants to take on these institutions. I get it. There is no one or no organization or outlet or journalist that he can't tangle with.

[00:01:40]But at the same time, I don't like him giving oxygen and credibility to some of these folks. It's it to me this was a wasted opportunity. The second thing, Andrew, that's lost in the context of the coverage of this is he noted at the end he had been there for over an hour.

[00:01:54]They had done rain delays. They played a few of them and he said, "Keep going.

[00:01:57]Let's keep going." It was Christian Walker that wanted to stop and start and stop and start. And I understand his frustration. At a certain point, he's like, "Why are we continuing to do this?" He says, "I've been here for over an hour. I waited out the rain with you.

[00:02:11]You've chosen to stop." This was a complete and utter waste of the president's time. She came in with an agenda. He played ball with it for a while, but in a certain point, you know how it's going to turn out and it does become a total waste of his time. But he had given her at least an hour plus while they were going back and forth and had delays that she had called for. So, look, I I think we continue to expose them for the the activist they are. And that's really what they are is activists.

[00:02:40]I I've never seen pe people like her interview any other president in this way. I mean, there is zero chance that they would be heckling and interrupting and and not letting Joe Biden speak or or Barack Obama speak. It's it's just extraordinary. It's like they're terrified to give him any air time in case their colleagues will criticize them for promoting, I don't know what they think, a fascist or whatever it is that's going through their mind. But that's that's the point you just hit on this. They need to prove to their supporters, to their leftist supporters, that they aren't giving him a pass. So they don't come in with a question. If I had the president of the United States in front of me for any amount of time, no matter what party, I'd ask them questions that I would gain insight into their thinking or their policies or, you know, the direction that they wanted to take the country in. For her, she needed to show that she was on their side. And so, she would state something and then follow it up with, "Don't you disagree?"

[00:03:39]or like those weren't questions. There wasn't a goal of trying to learn more or provide viewers with a greater context onto an issue or a policy or an announcement. I mean, she got into some personnel stuff. That that wasn't what that was. The goal of an interview, in my mind, is to bring out more of a greater understanding of the subject.

[00:03:59]She didn't do that. She was trying to score points with the left. But I got to say, there is another way, you know, you can trip over Donald Trump and simply let him talk and then present the facts.

[00:04:09]Like Jonathan Swan, an Australian now working in America, did a great interview with Donald Trump, but he let the man talk. I just think some of the uh other people there would would gain some lessons from Jonathan if he's around to give them. Sean Spicer, thank you so much indeed for your time.
