[00:01:17]>> Now, what do we have going on here? Cuz I don't see a lot.

[00:01:21]>> Yeah. So, um I just bought this car 5 weeks ago and pretty much on a whim. We were me and Braden were hanging out in uh Texas at Agguiland together and I think you jokingly said, "Let me buy your Volvo." Or did I say, "You should buy my Volvo." Which one was it?

[00:01:37]>> One of the I think you said, "Buy my Volvo." You were talking about wanting an RS6 and I told you to just buy it.

[00:01:42]>> And you Oh, yeah. And you were like, "How much?" And I was like And you were like, "It was a very low price." And you came back with a low ball ass offer. And I was like, "You know what? Give me any reason to get an RS6 right now." None of that happened. I looked for one. Yeah, it did. That's exactly what happened.

[00:01:58]>> I said exactly what you wanted. And then you came back with >> No, I know. I'm going to add 4500 for the >> BR regardless. Anyways, um ended up selling him my Volvo. The next day I got back from Texas. I picked this up from the dealership right down the road from the house. They happened to have the exact spec, the exact color, the exact everything that I wanted five minutes away at the closest dealership to me. It was kind of an anomaly. I was looking for these cars for the past like year and a half, maybe 2 years. Uh anyways, got it 5 weeks ago and you know, this event was coming up and you know, Resinix is doing a lot right now. I have uh the Resinix Gus subwoofers coming out uh very soon. You know, we have our production samples in hand. Mass production has already started. Uh they should be here ready to ship in July to customers. Um, and I also have the Resinix Peter prototypes, the handmade prototypes here. And I was like, you know what, five weeks, you know, I have some stuff I should be showing off, you know, smart business owner stuff, whatever. And uh, I said, you know what, I already showed people the prototype Gus at the last event here back in October, a little get together. I was like, you know, and since you were taking the Volvo, I was like, I got to I'm going to leave that thing in there.

[00:03:15]I'm going to do the Resinex Peter 12 prototype as the subwoofer. And I was like, but I also don't have time to do a full system. So, what I did was we have the Resinex Peter 12 prototype in a 0.2 3 0.23 cubic foot enclosure. About a quarter of a cubic foot. to to give some context. Uh in the Alpena I built, I have Bracks ML165 Pro midbases >> in 0.2 cubic feet.

[00:03:49]>> Yeah.

[00:03:50]>> Uh yeah, it's pretty much it's pretty much an enclosure that is it's a square that is as small as you can make it around the subwoofer and as shallow as possible without the back of the sub hitting the back of the enclosure. It is as small as you can physically make it in a in a square shape. And you know, I wanted to show and prove to people that, yeah, our subwoofers have real genuine performance, low frequency extension, linearity, low distortion in insanely small enclosures. Um, you know, we have all the data in the world to prove it, but getting to experience it in real life is an entirely different animal.

[00:04:26]You know, we took up only, I think it it was like two or three extra inches of of depth cuz there wasn't much depth from the, you know, removing the carpet. Um, I thought there was going to be a ton of foam back there. There was not. But, uh, yeah, we hardly took up any foot room, leg room, whatever. And, yeah, again, wasn't going to do a crazy system. I did not have time. Um, I actually had my friends over at Sound Concept in Nanuet, New York, do this install for me while I was away at a wedding or couple of weddings. And, uh, yeah. So, what we ended up with again, the Peter 12 in the passenger footwell in a quarter of a cubic foot and a pair of Karma Inspire 3 wideband uh 3-in drivers in the dash corners, which you can see up here. Uh those pods are designed by Audio and Reach. There are no factory dash locations in this car for mid-ranges.

[00:05:22]There is a the Bang & Olson uh tweeter location, the one that like rises up and has that funky looking wave guide. Um, >> show them how much room you still have, too.

[00:05:31]>> Yeah, all of it. Um, there was still just enough space from like that oversized tweeter housing to sink the magnet into, put these pods on top of and let it rip. And then they are just powered by a Helix P6 Ultimate which is controlling and powering the whole system. Uh that subwoofer and these two widebands that is that is it. It's three speakers in this entire system. I keep telling people that here and they're listening. They're like, "All right, yeah, but like you have a sub in the rear, right?" No. You have tweeters up here in the factory spot. No. You have midbases in the door. No. didn't have time. I got this fired up last night, right before we had dinner.

[00:06:17]>> Yeah.

[00:06:18]>> Um and tuned it at like two in the morning, just like you tuned the Volvo.

[00:06:23]>> Um and yeah, what's really crazy is you would think that would be like impossible, but this car, this platform, I went into it knowing it's a good platform for audio. Um spoke to Peter.

[00:06:39]Peter from PSound did one. Spoke on the phone about it. You know, I was asking him a few months ago like, "Is this a genuinely good platform? What problems did you have?" And he's like, you know, no problems. Genuinely great platform.

[00:06:50]And I was like, "All right, fully gung-ho." And he was not wrong. From, you know, these widebands are playing.

[00:06:57]They're crossed over at 150 hertz with a Linquitz Riley 24 dB slope. I am not advising anyone to do that, by the way, because if I blow them, I have a warehouse that is stocked with them. You do not. And I am not warranting anyone blowing drivers like that. And I'm sure Adam will not be warranting drivers blown like that. Um, but I'm still able to push them pretty good. They haven't had problems yet. I have bottom them out a couple of times.

[00:07:22]>> You have pretty good output.

[00:07:24]>> Yeah. No, it's good output.

[00:07:25]>> Reasonable listening.

[00:07:26]>> Um, but I mean they're they're going to go if I keep pushing them like that for an extended period of time, they're going to blow thermally, not mechanically. It's not enough moving mass to get those things to blow mechanically probably. But um yeah, as Peter said, you know, there are you asked or no, it was Ryan that asked me.

[00:07:44]He's like, "All right, so what like challenges like what acoustic challenges did you have uh with this kind of setup?" And I I had to look him straight. I was like, "None." The sub played no problem from 20 to 150 properly through the crossover. The widebands played cleanly from 150 to 20k through the crossover all the way down.

[00:08:07]They were they were like followed the curve perfectly down to like 80 hertz.

[00:08:11]It it it's kind of ridiculous. Um >> yeah, >> and it just worked. It it just works. Um >> let's let's look at the dash and the dash shape first of all.

[00:08:23]>> Why? What about it?

[00:08:24]>> Cuz it's long flat, but >> I mean it's not deep though. The gauge cluster is a little aggressive.

[00:08:30]>> Let's Was there any issues with this?

[00:08:32]>> Not really. I mean, honestly, if you want, I could pull out the the roof aisle.

[00:08:37]>> Why don't you put it up on the screen after?

[00:08:39]>> All right. I I'll put it up on this.

[00:08:40]>> Won't be able to see the screen. Well, >> yeah. So, I mean, there weren't really any I was expecting some problems. I purposely wanted the a package that did not have the heads-up display because every time I've tuned a car that has that heads-up display that's like sunken into the back of the gauge cluster, you get some weird reflections and ghost imaging, I guess you could call it. But uh yeah, and then again, the Resinix Peter 12 prototype is doing exactly what I wanted it to do. be able to play with a decent amount of output in a super small sealed enclosure cleanly, low distortion. I It's just doing it, you know? I I really have no other way to There's so little going on in here that like there's not much else to talk about.

[00:09:28]>> Try and break it down cuz a lot of people would hear 150 Hz and think that's not low enough to have a stable midbase image.

[00:09:37]>> Yeah. Well, they haven't tried it. Um, you can you can make it work if you have a good sol like what the hardest part about doing that is actually not so much the dash speakers. Um, it's actually making sure that your front sub does not have anything that draws attention to it. Any resonance, any rattles, any distortion. Got to use a good sub. If you have anything that could give some sort of inkling that there's a sub there at those higher frequencies, you're going to you're going to be drawn to it.

[00:10:10]>> Now, are you front firing or rear firing? It's >> firing the it's firing into the firewall. And I actually what we did was I had them make like a U shape around it and then put foam all around it. And when you take that U-shape and you press the enclosure up into its position, it seals the subwoofer pretty much into the firewall and only allows pressure to escape up into the dashboard. Now, I some people have said in my videos in the past, or even not in my videos, people just say, "Oh, fire into the firewall because, you know, it helps the sound go up into the dash." Honestly, maybe. I doubt it. sound travels at especially at those low frequencies so omniirectionally with no not much care to what's really in front of it. My I was just doing it because like we're doing it we might as well make it as good as possible in theory. It's also convenient because then you don't need a strong grill >> and especially with the Peter where it has the front mounted magnet, you have easy clearance for the magnet and the magnet also serves as kind of a point saying, "Hey, give this much clearance to the surround, right?"

[00:11:22]>> Yeah, it's pretty much a built-in grill of some sorts. Um, what's funny is on the the Peter 12, the Xmech of the, you know, moving mass is at full outward excursion is just below where the magnet sits. So, it's like, yeah, it's like perfect. Um, but yeah, I mean, I don't know. You know, again, we kept it super simple because I I wanted to just have something. I just got this car, you know, this event was coming up.

[00:11:53]I sponsor it every year. I competed it every year with my old car.

[00:11:57]>> Win every year, >> you know, win had the highest score every year and every part portion of the event. Not to brag, you know. Um, and I was like, I can't like miss it. And also Luke just did these crazy upgrades in his truck. Luke last year was like, I'm coming for you. I got you this year. I got you. And no, he didn't. Um, so I was like, oh. And he's like, oh, I got you this year. I got you this year. you know, he has the whole big upgrade and I'm like, wait a second. I can't just like give it to him. I got to slap something together.

[00:12:29]>> Got to try.

[00:12:30]>> And uh I think I think I don't know if I'm going to beat him. We'll see. But uh for how simple this system is, you would everyone that's demoed it today, they all look at they're like there's no there's no [ __ ] way. So, I've been around in crowds of people with people talking about it.

[00:12:53]>> Really?

[00:12:53]>> Yeah.

[00:12:54]>> How much [ __ ] are they talking? Who do I got to hit first? Oh, okay.

[00:12:57]>> It's >> It's more so one, they're like, "Oh my god, the car is moving that much." Uh, and then they're just talking about how they don't really understand how you can do that.

[00:13:06]>> Yeah. A lot of people don't understand a lot of things.

[00:13:09]>> But when you have good install, good tuning capabilities, and you just get a little bit lucky, it can just work out.

[00:13:18]>> Now, what is in this for treatment?

[00:13:20]>> Nothing right now.

[00:13:21]>> Oh, >> yeah. There's the only piece of sounder that is used is CLLD inside of the enclosure, fibermat inside of the enclosure, resin CCF encapsulating the backside of the enclosure to sort of provide like decoupling and make it nice and snug. And uh and then a piece of CLLD over a hole that is in the firewall that is for the steering column if it was right-hand drive. Other than that, there is no sound treatment yet. You don't really need it in a system like this, especially in a car that's this robustly built. Um, but I will say just driving the car, it does need a lot of treatment, but not the traditional type.

[00:14:03]A lot of these tight fitting panels, you probably know this, you know, a lot of these eur, you know, European cars, tight fitting panels, >> they just creek and groan with like even in a brand new car, they just creek and groan over every little thing. That one area you just touched over there is like so goddamn annoying.

[00:14:21]>> It I >> Yeah, >> I got in and I put my hand on it and heard it immediately.

[00:14:25]>> Yeah, it just like it's super solid, but you know, it just makes a little, >> you know, little noises. So, all of this is going to come apart and it's going to get foam. It's gonna get whatever gasket and treatment it really needs to uh you know not do that because it's really [ __ ] annoying while I'm driving.

[00:14:46]>> I have one that's old now.

[00:14:48]>> Oh, it's probably just gets worse and worse over time.

[00:14:50]>> Probably just sounds like pink noise at this point.

[00:14:53]>> Pretty damn close.

[00:14:54]>> So, um >> normally you'd talk about what problems did you face, but you already went over that there really weren't any >> Well, >> major ones. Um, we had a problem, but it it was it was a mistake because we forgot to put that CLLD over that hole and it caused a resonance. Um, >> also problems with like system design.

[00:15:13]>> Yeah, honestly, >> the thing is I I would not expect this system layout to work in 90% of vehicles. Number one. Number two, I don't think I'm not saying this to like be that guy, but I genuinely don't think most people could pull this off because as I said, it requires a very, very carefully thoughtout install as far as like making sure that front sub does not resonate, doesn't rattle, doesn't have anything that can draw attention, is built super robustly, and can make sure none of that energy of, you know, the sub itself is transferred mechanically into the vehicle that can draw your your ears and brain to it. Um, you know, and again, just getting lucky as far as those dash locations being completely nonproatic from 80 hertz up to 20k.

[00:16:10]Insane. Obviously, there's, you know, frequency response anomalies. There's EQ out the wazu. You know, actually, there's less EQ that I need on these in that bandwidth than I needed in the Volvo.

[00:16:23]>> The Volvo needs a ton.

[00:16:24]>> Doesn't need a ton, but it needs a good amount. It also responds one to one.

[00:16:30]>> Yeah, it responds perfectly. Um, >> these this doesn't respond perfectly, which tells me it's probably resonating a little bit. You know, these are 3D printed pods. I think there's, you know, a lot of, you know, I think it's infill.

[00:16:42]Yeah. I I they're not solid. Um they're what what is it called? They're like it's like 50% or 30% or whatever.

[00:16:49]>> Infill.

[00:16:50]>> Um Infel's normally pretty strong.

[00:16:53]>> I don't know. They're extremely light and when you put your hands on them, you can feel them resonate a little bit. The grills, I'm sure, resonate a little bit.

[00:17:02]You know, it could make some small improvements, but as it sits, it I just got lucky. um coupled with tuning abilities and a good install at this system, it just somehow worked.

[00:17:14]>> Now, how long will this be alive? Will other people get to hear it?

[00:17:17]>> Uh probably not. Um >> straight acetone.

[00:17:21]>> No, I mean it's I don't I don't know when when do people get to hear my car? Like come over, come hang out. I don't know. Like I'm moving I'm moving into a house in less than a month and I'm going to have and I'm going to have a shop and as soon as I get that shop set up, >> this is all coming out and we're going >> crazy install.

[00:17:43]>> Um, but yeah, why don't we show, you know, speaking of the Resin X, Peter, why don't we go >> show them >> look at what we got.

[00:18:00]All right. So, >> we have three subwoofers here. We have the Resinex Gus production samples.

[00:18:08]These are the final final samples. This is it. If you are ordering a GUS 10, this is exactly what you're getting.

[00:18:17]This is the Resinix GUS 12 final production sample. Same deal. And then this is the handmade prototype of the Resinex Peter 10-in. Um, this is just a working model. Does this platform work?

[00:18:31]What changes do we need? It definitely doesn't look pretty. Uh, what you see here, you know, I described in the video that I put up uh on YouTube already, but this is extra mass that we added to get the uh resonant frequency that we wanted. This is going to be it turned out it was unnecessary. We can actually get the exact specs we want without adding the mass. Um, but this is it. You know, this is a 10-in super shallow um design, can handle extremely small enclosures as everyone experienced here today in this car.

[00:19:04]>> And uh yeah, I don't know. I you have any questions about it?

[00:19:11]>> Let's see. How does this compare to what's currently known as one of the best front subs ever, the illusion cent in terms of mounting depth and install requirement and enclosure requirement?

[00:19:22]>> All right, so I'm very familiar with the Illusions, um, as you probably know, and I don't feel bad talking about them because they are no longer in production. They've been out of production for about 2 or 3 years now.

[00:19:34]Um, so anyways, um, mounting depth I think is very I don't know off hand, but it's very close. I think these when it comes to the production model are going to be a little bit shallower, uh, but not enough to be like a gamechanging difference. Um, the real differences come down to frankly the performance.

[00:19:54]Uh, as you will be seeing on our website, you know, we did all the subwoofer testing, uh, the clipple testing. We did test the Illusion C10 and the C12s and there's a lot of um there's a lot of they're not what the hell is going on?

[00:20:13]Oh, they're not uh they're not bad, but there are definite improvements that could have been made. You know, with BLA symmetry, you know, X-Maxx not meeting spec based on 70% BL. Same with 50% CMS.

[00:20:27]Um, their uh inductance performance was very good as are these, but uh these definitely have a much better optimized uh BL and suspension. These the 10ens have, if I recall correctly, it's 12 1/2 mm of oneway linear excursion verified by the Clipple. The illusion C10, if I recall, came back at 8 mm uh linear based on BL. The Peter 12 had 16 mm of one-way linear excursion limited by 70% BL. Um the Illusion C12 I think came back at 11 and 12 or 12 mm.

[00:21:10]So we're getting much more, not a ton more, but you know 50% 40% 30% more linear oneway excursion. uh and also having better symmetry, you know, um just lower distortion overall, better linearity and smaller enclosure requirements. These have more motor force which allows us to have and a you know higher moving mass which is not the end of the world. A lot of people think high moving mass is the devil but it comes down to efficiency. How that moving mass relates to motor force is what's most important. So looking at moving mass on its own is completely irrelevant. You have to take motor force into account. But these have better motor force. They have, you know, lower resonant frequency. These are subwoofers. You know, they are obviously great front subs. But to anyone watching, don't get it twisted and think that these can't be used as your main subwoofer. They absolutely can. I designed these so that they can be used in uh undereats, underseat truck enclosures without having to lift the seats. That's what they're going to be made for. Uh that's their primary market, but without any compromise to front sub installations. So >> So the illusion is known for being very output limited.

[00:22:30]>> Very what?

[00:22:30]>> Output limited. That's kind of where it starts to >> I mean they're not as output limited as you would think. I mean the little they're they are what they are. They're shallow subs and they sound very good.

[00:22:41]You know, these at the end of the day, output is uh it's just displacement. You know, how much excursion and how much cone area there is. It's purely what output is defined by. So, if you have a 10-in subwoofer with a cone area of X and you have, you know, Y amount of, you know, excursion, >> that's your output. Um, but >> yeah, I don't know.

[00:23:04]>> Did you mention enclosure requirements for the C10? the C10.

[00:23:09]I don't remember.

[00:23:10]>> I remember it being relatively large.

[00:23:12]>> The C10 XL and the C12 XL massive enclosure requirements like pretty much infinite baffle. Um but I was using them in like 75 cubic feet for the 12s. Uh I I don't remember the shallows off hand. I don't remember the manufacturers. I don't I also don't remember what the clipple testing uh parameters came back to, you know, needing for enclosures. But what are you looking it up?

[00:23:37]>> Yeah, I don't think you have that one posted yet, do you?

[00:23:39]>> No, I don't have it posted yet. Um, that was one of the first subs I tested, too.

[00:23:44]But yeah, that's pretty much uh >> Should we go look at the 15?

[00:23:49]>> Uh, >> I think that's what everyone wants to see.
