COST OF LIVING CRISIS In Canada Forcing People To The BrinkAdded:
Uh, I keep getting notifications in the news that grocery prices are set to go up, predicted to go up like 16 more% in in 2026. How is that possible?
>> You want to know what's actually really crazy to me? That I live in one of the cheapest provinces in Canada, allegedly >> and my gas is $1.88 88 per liter, >> which is equivalent to $712 a gallon.
>> And my groceries cost me $100 a week.
>> Canada's cost of living crisis is so bad right now that it doesn't really matter which side of the political fence you're on. You can all agree that Canada's gotten far too expensive. EI doesn't pay out nearly as much as it needs to to even survive in this country. Pensions don't pay out as much. Government pensions don't pay out as much as you need to survive in today's economy. And also, the rise of fuel costs are continuing to burden Canadians at the pump. We're going to discuss all of this in today's video. And before I jump to things here, I also want to let you know that about 60 to 70% of you come back to the channel are not yet subscribed. So, if you find yourself coming back and enjoying more content, hit that subscribe button. And with that being said, let's dive into it.
>> Okay, I usually do not do something like this. I'm not even really on social media anymore, but I feel so frustrated.
I just wanted to rant about it and maybe someone will see and they can respond because what the hell is going on? Like, uh, I keep getting notifications in the news that grocery prices are set to go up, predicted to go up like 16 more% in in 2026. How is that possible? How is >> Oh, it's possible. We're in Canada. We know anything is possible when it comes to prices going up.
>> Is that acceptable? How is the How is that information or forecast even allowed? Why is there no legal cap like federally on on grocery store giants? We just keep talking about how it's an issue and doing nothing about it. Also, we can't have a home. We can't own a home. We've been renting this place for so long and we can't even rent something bigger because the rent is so high that it's more than someone would want to even pay in a mortgage. Uh, you know, they say home prices are flattening. Oh, it's the time to buy in. Like, what are you talking about? It's so inflated that even if it goes down 20%, that's still nothing. I I I can't afford even a one-bedroom because the down payment has to be so high and your limits for how much you help are like 500,000 and below or something. Like it's insane. That's not how much homes cost. Um I just I don't understand. Like and I'm in a position of privilege. I walk past people who are unhoused all the time who have way less than me. Where is their support? Like we're struggling out here.
What the heck are what is my daughter supposed to do? I just the food is so expensive that now when we eat food I get worried because we went through it so fast and I think you know like should we be dragging it out that's insane and then people up north have been dealing with food prices that have been way more inflated than this forever and in other rural communities. How is this acceptable? Like what are you doing? I I don't believe you're doing anything. It can't just be tariffs and the war, you know, the actual invasion, the colonial invasion of parts of the Middle East is really what it is. But it's not just due to that and gas prices, oil prices, access. That's not the only thing. This was happening before that. I I it can't be that since 2019 things have gone up so much that wages have stagnated that food prices have shot through the roof and it's just like oh it's tough for the young generation and we've got incentives all of your incentives all of your things that you're giving all of your opportunities Canada that you're giving to families only meet super poor people which is good but there is a middle class who also are struggling and I'm not saying that I have it as hard as an actual poor family, but like I also like what the hell am I supposed to do?
I have two degrees. My husband has two degrees. We are, you know, gainfully employed, but like we can't seem to move up and and it makes it so hard because you're working and working and working and for what? You can't even put anything aside and they just say, "Oh, it's going to continue to go up." Even cars. Who the hell can afford a car now?
You know, I'm financing my car for like $5 $600 every month. That's insane. I can't believe the amount of people financing their cars now. I refuse to finance a car. Even in the future, if we get a new car and we want it to be a little better than the one we have right now, if I don't have a way to pay for it through just my savings or selling stocks or something like that, then I don't want it. That's why I usually go for used cars, which by the way are ridiculously priced, not just in Canada, but in the United States. What the heck happened to the used car market? Holy crap. Maybe that's a topic for a future video. It's almost the same price as new cars now. You're barely getting any much any more of a deal than the new price, which is insane.
>> You want to know what's actually really crazy to me? That I live in one of the cheapest provinces in Canada, allegedly, >> and my gas is $1.88 per liter, >> which is equivalent to $712 a gallon.
And my groceries cost me $100 a week for a single person because that's just how much groceries cost. And that doesn't even get me like a full week of food because it'll either expire if you buy anything fresh or if you buy a bunch of crap. It just makes you feel horrible.
created the adapt.
>> It just blows my mind how anybody that lives here can afford like literally anything when that is the case. Insane.
>> It doesn't really matter which province you live in in Canada. You're going to pay high gas prices unfortunately throughout the entire country. You'd think that places like Alberta, you know, which is the hub of the oil industry in Canada, the prices would be cheaper than they would be in Ontario.
But talking to a lot of friends in Ontario and seeing the prices that they're paying, that's not really the case at all. We're still getting screwed here as well. In fact, we still have the provincial tax on gas, which hasn't been relieved at all, and that's also leading to higher prices here in this province.
>> They can [ __ ] right off with their gas prices. It is costing me $50 a day to drive down to Cam Loops and back to see my sick father in the hospital. That is absolutely insane.
But that's what I've got to do. And honestly, I'm kind of afraid. I'm filling up at 194.9 right now.
And That's way more than I filled up before, so it's going to cost me even more. But $50 a time to get to Cam Loops to see my ailing father just seems like absolute BS.
And because of this freaking war in Iran that has our war or our our fuel doesn't come from there, but yet we're getting punished because it's created this false I don't even know. But we shouldn't have to pay for somebody else's freaking war. Um we should just stay the [ __ ] out of it, man. Yeah, that's the way a lot of people feel right now. We're just so sick of the endless wars throughout the entire world. It feels like since I was born, I don't remember, well, as a baby, I don't remember this, but as I was a child, I don't remember there being a time of real peace. There was always a few wars that were happening in the world, but you know, Canada wasn't necessarily involved in every single one. But since I was a teenager, it feels like Canada has its hands in a lot of the same wars that the United States is in. And it's kind of ridiculous, but again, this is leading to fuel prices going up again, which adds to more inflation in this country, and Canadians are just sick to death of it. Leave your thoughts about this video down below in the comment section, guys, and I'll see you in the next one. Take care.
