In 1923, Germany experienced hyperinflation where a 10 million mark banknote could barely buy a newspaper, and people burned the paper for warmth because it was worth more than the money it represented; the currency featured a tree symbol that Germany chose to maintain for over 50 years despite two world wars and the Berlin Wall, demonstrating how nations use consistent symbols on currency to preserve national identity through historical upheaval.

The Money Germans Burned to Stay Warm | Sneak PeekAdded:
Hey guys, it's Chris and your box is on the way, but I wanted to give you an early look before the full video goes live tomorrow. This right here is a real German banknote. Look at that number, 10 million marks. This was printed in 1923 [music] and it could barely buy a newspaper and a few months later it couldn't buy anything at all. People were burning these to stay warm because the paper was worth more than the money.
And here's the crazy part.
It is completely blank on the back and there is a reason for that.
And on the front, [music] some of the text on here that's printed is some of the craziest text I've ever seen. Then there's this tiny coin with a small tree on it. The same tree [music] shows up again more than 50 years later on a completely different piece of currency and that's after the country experienced two world wars, a wall that went up and came back down. Germany chose twice not to let that symbol change. So why a tree? Well, that's part of the story. The full video drops soon and everything I just showed you is in your packet heading your way right now.
See you soon.
