The video incisively deconstructs how the term "Wasian" centers whiteness, exposing the internal racial hierarchies that persist even within marginalized communities. It serves as a necessary provocation against the exclusionary linguistic frameworks that often define mixed-race identity politics.

Wasian Backlash追加:
Have you seen the outrage over the Wasean meet up that took place recently in New York? Wasean referring to people who are half white, half Asian. So, this past weekend, an event was hosted marketed as a Wasean meet up with hundreds of half white, half Asian people coming to attend. On the surface, this is completely harmless and a fun idea. However, the people that started this event are part of an organization called Half Asia Spring. Half Asia Spring, in their own words on their Instagram, said that their mission is to create half Asian meet ups around the United States. However, every single video posted to this account only mentions Waseans. Every single flyer only mentions Waseans. It's only marketed as a Wasean meet up. So, that begs the question, why are you marketing an inclusive mixed Asian community gathering when it's centered only around white mixed Asian people? So, this is a problem about language and terminology because the word Wasean, white and Asian, is not inclusive of all the other half Asians out there, which include Blasians, who are black and Asian. Back in the '80s and '90s, that we used to call them Eurasian because European and Asian obviously refer to continents, whereas white is a color. So, really shouldn't be Wasean, it should be wello, white and yellow. But again, this would exclude the Blasian community. And I don't even like the term mixed Asian because what about South Asians? We're excluding them, too. They should be called mixed Orientals, really. So, I propose mongoloids.
And mongrels are mixed breed, so It just makes sense, doesn't it? And it's catchy. What do you think?
But it's also given me a unique view on Asian American identity politics and how whiteness is constantly centered in so many of our conversations. So, we need to acknowledge the elephant in the room that Wasean privilege does exist. It's extension of white privilege. There is a socioeconomic advantage that comes from having a white parent. But you could also argue that having two Chinese parents has its perks.
My mom and dad who are both Chinese did a perfect job raising me and I would never swap one of them for a white person. And if we're going to talk about socioeconomics, full Asians are the most financially successful group in the West. Wasians also fit the Eurocentric beauty standards. Wasians are often seen as more palatable to Western media than monoethnic Asian features. We constantly see this in popular TV shows which cast Wasian actors in as the leads in lieu of fully Asian leads. Proximity to whiteness is a comfort to general audiences.
>> Yes, of course Eurasians do well in Western media because their looks are relatable to Western audiences, just as full Asians do well in Asian media. But as far as this whole business of centering their whiteness, I would say that Eurasians do a very good job of centering their Asianness. Every Eurasian person who I've ever met, and there are several in my extended family, are very much in touch with their Oriental side, more so than Blasians arguably.
Because we all know about the one drop rule. I mean, just look at Kamala Harris. Well, actually I've heard that she doesn't even have any black in her.
