Temporary municipal sanitation workers in Ramjibanpur Municipality protested by locking the gate, demanding permanent employment and fixed salaries, highlighting the disparity between their casual status and permanent staff who receive fixed salaries of 14,000-15,000, despite the workers having served for over four years with regular salary increases and bonuses.

Why shouldn't we? We are walking in public and locking the gate of the municipality. Protest, greetings. In local news, in digital media, in the report of the revolutionary government. I am Souminag Dutta. Demanding a salary increase as soon as the government changes.
About 90 temporary sanitation workers of Ramjibanpur Municipality of Chandrakan Block No. 1 joined the movement and locked the gate, demanding a minimum salary increase and permanent employment.
Since Tuesday morning, the angry temporary workers have been protesting and sitting on a lock at the main gate of the municipality. Due to which the entire service is disrupted.
Many officials and employees are stuck outside for a long time because the gate is closed.
Ordinary people also suffer. A large police force from Ramjibanpur Phadi of Chandrakana Police Station reached the spot to control the situation.
After assurances from the police, the protesters finally unlocked the gate and the situation returned to normal.
We have complained that we have to pay a fixed salary because we have never done so and are told that it cannot be done.
You work as daily laborers and earn money. However, we can see that all the staff of the water department have been given fixed salaries and casual systems. The salary has been increased to 14,000 and 15,000.
Why did they do this? That is why we have started the movement today.
If we do not get a fixed salary, our movement will continue.
This board has taken an oath from the job. Today, it has been four years and two months since we took the oath in March.
So, for these four years, today you saw that the keys to the municipality gate have been given. The laborers did not go to work. Municipal services are closed. The dirty garbage that is cleared every day is closed.
We have had salary increases for four years.
Bonus increased. And everyone gets paid in the first week of the month. There has never been a case where someone's salary was late.
Moreover, they are demanding permanent salary increases. At this time, you know or everyone knows that there is a government order in the administrative department since 1920 that we cannot make anyone casual by paying daily wages.
We have not made anyone permanent on this board.
We have not made daily wage workers casual or contractual. We have increased the salary of everyone within our capacity. We have increased the salary of everyone every year. We have increased the bonus. However, this movement called my municipality staff with a headlock. Just now, the municipality staff was not allowed to enter. They were given the key. Why is this movement for what? And now there is no order from the fixed salary government. The new government has been formed. They will have to come with an order. We cannot do this like this. We can increase the salary within our capacity.
We did it last Puja because what does such a movement mean? Who is making sense of it?
Why is it doing it? I do not have any good answer.
Those who are protesting in Ramjanpur Municipality are demanding our permanentization and salary increase. This is their rightful demand. This has been repeatedly told to them by the Trinamool for a long time. The Trinamool chairman did not pay any attention to it. So when we came to power, the issue of increasing their salary and permanentization will be resolved. Of course, we will never accept the injustice that has been done to them.
They are protesting to get justice for that injustice.
We support this protest.
