BIGGEST SCHOOL HACK IN HISTORY RESOLVED(?)Added:
Over 200 million students and teachers were just saved from the biggest school hack in history, on paper at least. The cybercrime group Shiny Hunters stole 3.65 terabytes of data from Canvas LMS, the student learning platform used by nearly 9,000 schools and universities worldwide. The data stolen included emails, student IDs, enrollment records, even private messages between students and teachers. The hackers gave Canvas until May 12th to pay the ransom or watch the data get dumped on the dark web. Shiny Hunters has run this play before with Harvard, Amtrak, Rockstar Games, and dating apps like Hinge, Bumble, and Match. But at the deadline, the company behind Canvas paid an undisclosed amount to strike a deal with the hackers and announced that the data had been destroyed. But once data has been stolen, you can't un-leak it.
Instructure paid, now it and the students and teachers will find out if their extortionists have a code of honor.
