Mutual Funds vs Index Investing: Which is better?

[00:00:00]I had realized that mutual fund approach is not as passive as we think. I was always looking at these lists of the top mutual funds of that year and then selling out my units or I would just pick up a mutual fund that someone has recommended and then I ended up with 20 or 30 mutual funds. Eventually I exited everything and rebalanced into the nifty50 next 50 midcap 150 and since then I have not sold any units and I feel the secret of my success 10 years 20 years from now is going to be that I did not sell anything. It's not going to be that I did not buy a quant mutual fund or I did not buy that small cap mutual fund or I missed out on that flexi cap fund. The secret is going to be that I was able to consistently stick to a particular investment for the longest period of time.
