Social assistance programs like Section 8 housing can create structural poverty traps where recipients lose benefits entirely when they earn slightly above income limits, rather than experiencing a gradual phase-out. This creates a disincentive for economic advancement and can trap individuals in cycles of poverty despite their efforts to improve their circumstances.

Love and Life W/ Dr J Nicole and Vision Episode 3Ajouté :
[music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Doctor Nicole, let me make sure this thing is working. Hello? All right, there we go.
And welcome to another Love and Life with Doctor J.
Nicole and Vision.
Hey, y'all. This is our show where we talk about love and life, uh This is not working. Second. Can you hear me now?
Yeah, I can hear you.
Uh what's up with the echo?
I'm sorry. Do you hear the echo?
I do.
No, I can't hear you.
Hello.
Hello, hello, hello. You can hear me now, right? Yes, and you're louder.
That's so good. Yes, cuz uh this thing's always messing up. It always bothers me when it does that.
Um so, welcome to Love and Life, you guys. This is with Doctor J. Nicole and Vision. We talk about know, love and life and health and happiness and stuff and we have good conversations in regards to, you know, just flipping, you know, a lot of stuff that's happening out here and bringing positivity to you.
Um we're going to jump right into it cuz you know, this is only an hour show.
And I want to show you something that Dr. Umar said. So, this is regarding the Kevin Hart roast, right? And so, he he had a lot to say in regards to it.
I was in here like, "Hey, this I mean, a lot of people have a lot of problems with it." And I agree why they have a lot of problems with it. So, uh we're going to take a look at this video. I'm going to pull up for you real quick.
And just remember uh also, we're going to be uh doing love and life on Tuesdays and Thursdays now. So, just want to make sure you guys are aware that we'll be doing it uh those days. But, let's take a look at the first video and we'll be right back. Stay tuned.
there. I didn't see her up there. As she turned to exit cuz the exit was right behind the stage, Shane Gillis got up there again after calling Lizzo a fat b i t c h. Guess what he says about Tiana Taylor.
"At least she's good looking cuz that b t that b i t c h is not funny."
Did you hear what I just said, Art? "At least she's good looking because that b i t c h is" He called two black women a b i t c h and didn't get knocked on his ass. How does a white man call a black woman a b i t c h? Two different women.
On international television, Netflix, and don't get knocked on his ass. Let's continue, Art.
"Kevin is so short they will have to lynch her from a bonsai tree.
>> [snorts] >> He did well in Saudi Arabia because they thought he was the monkey from Aladdin.
His ancestors came to America on a slave ship in a bottle.
I'm about to blow your mind now, Art.
Listen to this.
Guess who wrote these jokes." Who wrote them?
"A group of 17 white men.
Or a group of 17 white men were hired by Netflix to make a night's worth of racially derogatory, insulting, and humiliating jokes about black people.
Mhm. White men wrote these. Or Let's continue.
Jeff Ross to calls Sheryl Underwood the donkey from Shrek, and then he says, "Sheryl Did it stop?
Listen, they he's they was not about to let him say nothing else about my sister Sheryl Lee Ralph. We was not going to say nothing about Sheryl, okay? Cuz I was like, "Uh-uh, what they say about her?"
So, um I just want to make sure it is still working. Something's wrong with the camera thing or something. You can still hear me though, right? Yep, I can hear you. I can see you. We can talk about what we seen.
Um you know what got me about that, and he was right in regards to that. You know, Regina Hall was not laughing at all. She wasn't laughing about anything.
>> hear where he referenced her.
They had her photo up there, but they mentioned that he called Lizzo a B, and that he called Teyana Taylor a B. I didn't hear what was said about Regina Hall.
Yeah, Regina Hall uh uh let me see here one sec. I'm going to go off camera just for a second just to make sure that I can get this to work.
Um but no, when it came to Regina Hall, she if you ever watched if you watched the roast, Regina Hall was not laughing at all. And I tell people you got to go back and you got to watch the roast. She wasn't smiling, she wasn't laughing, wasn't nothing funny or anything like that. He disrespected even Chelsea Handler. I guess uh throughout the whole thing, the white dudes were calling Chelsea Handler like a [ __ ] or whatever. Uh in in terms of that, you know, that language. Mhm. And I was sitting there like, you know, y'all sitting there calling her out her name and calling her these different stuff and things of that nature. And if you notice that all the the cast of the people, all of them were white dudes.
Well, they said 17 writers wrote this.
17 white men. Yeah, and it was it was troublesome. And I said even uh Sheryl Underwood, like the jokes about her and how black she was.
>> Underwood, not Sheryl Lee Ralph. My bad, wrong Sheryl. Oh, I was I was like, where did you get Sheryl Lee Ralph from?
>> Well, I was saying wrong Sheryl.
But it was it was interesting because you said I sat there and I'm just sitting here like, why would they sit there and and allow this to happen? I know that they want views, I know they want clicks and stuff, but there's a time and place for everything. And to have somebody sit there and talk to about black people, including George Floyd. George Floyd is not even up there. And this is why I told people on our FTP podcast, I said when it comes to, you know, they would talk about jokes or content or entertainment, they have nothing going for them besides racism. They have to focus on racism because they they don't have the talent to back it up. They really don't. So, what do you think of that? Well, even that, talent or not, cuz I have no idea who the 17 are, but to take a highly high visible moment for someone and use it to tear down people from that community is very sensitive. And let's be honest though, like comedy has made its made its money essentially on these distasteful like jokes and things like that and really pushing the envelope.
But you also have to like timing and context is everything, right? So, like blackness is like under attack right now.
Essentially in in and so then to see this happen, you know, it just yeah, it's it's it's it's definitely concerning and like what are what are we going to do about it? But like people will use their influence, right? Like you just they have the the platform to do it and so they're doing what they think people are showing themselves and I hope that any other comedians of color, right?
find out who those 17 are and they're maybe not being hired for these things.
They really focused I have to go watch the whole roast. Now you got to give me you didn't give me something to watch.
Go watch the roast and just like see what the rest of it is cuz we can take a lot of things out of context and that doesn't mean that it's okay to degrade women and refer to them as bees, right?
Um and yeah, I'm curious to see what else is there, but I'm I'm not also surprised at the same time.
No, I I definitely agree with you on that. But this is my thing about a roast. There was too many black people up there to not say nothing. Mhm.
There was way too many black people. I was like, um Who's telling who was telling the jokes?
Uh mostly white dudes. The white there was white writers behind the scenes that was sitting there talking about it and then they when they wrote the wrote the jokes they wrote the jokes for the actual comedians and actors and actresses.
>> wanted to know who delivered those distasteful jokes. So that's what I'll watch for. And even that I guess T- Teyana Taylor was one of the people that was supposed to say some of the jokes up there or something like that. And so as she was up there speaking about it or whatever, that's when he was like they called her a B and all that and good thing she's good licking and stuff and I said that's the problem. You will have people raccoon out like with Kevin Hart you will have them raccoon out like that and they will sit there and they would they would literally sit there and talk and and allow that to happen just for a check.
And you know Katt Williams said this before. He He said this multiple times.
Kevin uh Kevin Hart he he will raccoon out for a check. He will he will he will he will >> Raccoon out is killing me.
>> [laughter] >> That That's the emoji. Have you been You've been on IG lately? That's the emoji now, the raccoon.
>> I just got back in town. So, no, I have not been on IG. I was living in real life and not in the algorithm.
>> [laughter] >> So, but but that's what people are saying. They's like, you know, at the end of the day that that's what it is.
Um and if uh anybody in the comment section y'all got anything to say about it, please let me >> People are asking. They said this is a new show. I guess we got somebody new here. Oh, yeah, KK fool. Yeah, this is a new show. Actually, this show we actually started this uh two two weeks ago. This is called This is part of FTP Network. It's called Love and Life. So, we talk about things, but it's a a lighter show. So, we talk about, you know, health, wellness, you know, things of that nature, art, uh topics like this and we try to talk and spin it to kind of understand it. Um it's a lot a lot level and more toned down, I would say.
So, this is a different show. FTP get you together. This show get you some more uplifting. So, two different shows.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah, but we're still going to be discussing like current issues and things like that. So, I'm Dr. J. Nicole.
Um if y'all don't remember, yeah, I was a uh featured guest host on FTP earlier in the spring a couple times. I came on maybe two or three times. Yes, you did. And that's why I tell people that's why we try to introduce people through FTP so people can kind of know Mhm.
>> um about who's all coming on the show.
And then so, what we're going to do is we are going to go into uh our next uh this This is actually not a video, but this is actually a still clip. So, um you know that the economy's bad, everybody's struggling, we trying to make it, everybody's trying to get you know, get their life in order. Um this was a post that was popped up earlier today. I actually two days ago, but it popped up on my feed today.
A mother in tears after she lost Section 8 housing the moment she got a a job.
She said, "I feel like I got punished for trying to better myself and my kids' life."
And um somebody said, "This is the welfare cliff, a structural poverty trap built into how assistance programs work.
Section 8 housing has income limits.
When you earn above those limits, you lose the benefit either entirely rather than gradually phasing it out." Um a woman uh would was then You're muted, Chris.
Hey, sorry about that. Now, I had to tell somebody something. Uh a woman was making uh $15,000 a year uh keeps her voucher. A woman making $15,001 loses it completely. There's no sliding scale.
There's no transition period. The incentive structure punishes the work.
Now, I've heard a few people that talked about this about Section 8 housing and how they uh lose Section 8 housing even with SNAP benefits. And uh we haven't talked about this on the show. Uh I don't think I talked about it at all, but I know the movie Precious? Mhm.
Remember when that uh lady came to the house, the uh case worker, the black woman? Mhm. And she was sitting down, you know, and they try to be all fake and act like they like you and blah blah blah. And she uh seen she was like, "Oh, is that a new toaster oven?"
And she was like, "Oh, you know, that's not a new toaster oven. That's been here for a while and everything." She's like, "Oh, and and her mind she's spinning her wheels. Oh, you know, Maybe your income.
Yeah, maybe you can afford it. Who Who gave it to you? Do you have a man in the house? And that when I was younger, that's what my mom went through.
Because the case workers would come over and they would uh it was a a TV. You know those old TVs from 1989, '88?
>> big ones in the back. Yeah, it was so long and you could carry it. It was one of those. And when I tell you that lady was trying to uh argue with my mother up and down about, you know, "Well, uh uh how did you afford it? How much is it? Who gave it to you? Why they gave it to you? Is it a gift that's more expensive?" She was trying to figure out any type of way to either lower my mom's benefits. And that tells you the level of people that come into your house to say, "Oh, we're about the children and stuff." If you know there's children staying in the house, why would you want to do that to us?
Because whatever you say about my mom and that affects her, it's going to affect us because you're going to lower her her benefits. Mhm. And that's the stuff we'll be talking about. Have you ever had you know anything or experienced people with that? I know you speak to a lot of people, you know, as a doctor.
>> Yeah, also being, you know, I'm a clinically trained social worker, but I had to do placements and some of that I had to do home visits. I wasn't working for uh child and family services or anything like that, but with DC public schools and saw certain things, but also throughout my education we talked about from the beginning, right? With the US, a lot of what we see in terms of what's like welfare, social services, charity work is modeled from England, right?
It's modeled from the UK, right? And it's funny, one of the guests here said, "What's Section 8 housing?" Basically, it's government assisted housing uh where people is income based where they get a voucher to help them have affordable housing uh when they don't earn a certain amount. Um so I hope that helps you, Slimy Terror.
Um but there's always been this notion of the deserving poor.
And that you have to look like the struggle to deserve it and that you can have present yourself with dignity. You can't put yourself together and be well-dressed and then you don't deserve it because you your hair is combed, your hair is done. You don't know what people's talents are, where they're getting resources from. But it's like this this thing you have to look a particular way. And systems are very much set up to not support a traditional nuclear family, right? The the services are set up for women and children typically, right? So this is why you do also see a lot of more men that are homeless.
Um or it's harder for them to get children their children into the shelter um or with all of them as a family.
Um so this just really does reinforce that that it is a trap. I've had clients when I was working in case management who refused to work themselves out of their benefits. So, there is a certain level of dependence that is created cuz the system is not created for you to do better or it's created for you to almost have to defraud the government and hide income until you're ready to go, right?
Because what will happen is this young lady here, she's trying to do her best.
So, it's a trap if you allow it to be a trap, right? And I get it that's terrifying. I also think it's important to understand your income limits, too, if you're in a program like that. And it should be clearly explained to you by your case manager. It should not be a surprise that if you get this job and make more money, but I also think that they need to give um individuals that receive Section 8 vouchers a certain amount of time. So, they said she lost her voucher, but like does she have 30 days? Does she have 60 days? Or did they turn it off immediately? You get what I'm saying?
Cuz people will jump to the sensationalize of it, right? So, I will want to know the details and what plan can we get put together? Like I I understand her being in tears because you're like, "What am I about to do? I'm just getting my footing. I don't have money for a security deposit." Like, you know, so it just creates a lot of other issues and sometimes it is like a trap.
It is is designed to keep you and if anybody knows anything about Maslow's hierarchy of needs, right? They want to keep you in that base of that pyramid.
That's just like your basic stability.
When you look at our social services, it's on housing, it's on food, it's on jobs, it's on education and health.
Those are the basics. Our services don't support the second, third, and fourth tier. And that top tier is like self-actualization, you becoming your best self.
Yeah.
And and that's why we telling people I say, you know, when when it is just unfortunate how our system is set up and stuff. And I just want to let you know you guys, um for anybody that's joining us, we are now live on 40 people podcast on IG. So, this is the Love and Life Show with Dr. J the Code and Vision. So, I want to let you guys know, we just got done talking about Section 8 housing and etc. This is more uplifting and everything. So, this is a part of the FTP network. So, we just want to let you guys know that as well. I was trying to fix it earlier, but it wasn't working.
Uh, uh, now I'm going to go into, uh, Waymo.
So, I don't know if you guys have been hearing about this. Oh, and before I go, uh, let me see if there's any other comments. Uh, Lady G Forever, she stated, she says, "Uh, I was on dialysis and on disability and SNAP gave me $20 a month. Disability gave me $900 a month and expect us to live off that. I made it work. I had no choice." Yeah. Uh, but she also said, uh, "but I'm thankful I got a transplant in 2020 and working on working and I'm glad that I don't have to depend on assistance no more." You know what, Lady G Forever, you have rocked with us for a while on FTP. Thank you for coming to Love and Life Show and we appreciate you sharing that.
Um, can you, if you don't share that.
Yeah. Yeah, if you don't mind me asking, can you please let us know like what, uh, state you stay in because if this is California, $900 a month ain't going to do nothing for you. Mm.
Now, maybe Kentucky?
That's a little different. I mean, there's nothing going on in Kentucky.
Ain't nobody trying to move there. They don't have a lot of jobs. The housing prices is not as good. I mean, it's it's not the place that, you know, and there you can get an apartment, actually you can get a two-bedroom apartment for four or five hundred dollars.
You know what?
>> [laughter] >> I mean, I I I I I I lived in Kansas before. I mean, I remember, uh, a a two-bedroom apartment, and I'm talking about a nice one in Overland Park, Kansas.
>> California?
Yeah, Overland Park, Kansas. Mhm. It it could be, you know, $850. And that's in Overland Park, Kansas. That's the rich, city, nice area. Yeah. So, How long ago was that? Yeah, California. Yeah, ain't no way.
Ain't no way. They, I my last apartment out here, um, was $4,700 a month.
Mhm. It was expensive. And um, no, I just had got reduced and everything and I wasn't working at that job no I was like there was no way I was going to be affording any of that stuff. So I got I got out of there.
Um, now what I want to do is I want to talk about Waymo. Now as you know Waymo is the new uh, how would I say that? It's it's the the new Lyft and and Uber but it's without actually having any type of um, drivers in it. So I want you guys to take a look You can order a Waymo through Uber.
Oh, oh, oh you can.
>> self-driving vehicle. Oh yeah, baby. I have a Waymo.
Oh, okay. Well, let's take a look at this video.
>> but what happened? But we're about to look. We'll be right back. The person who took this dash cam video doesn't want to show his face or use his name because of his technology-oriented job but he felt a responsibility to share what he saw. To kept going forward, going forward, almost like it was going to make a turn and I was like, "Oh, this is interesting. It doesn't know what to do." And then it just drives right out into the intersection in the traffic.
NHTSA is investigating 16 crashes involving robot taxis from AV Ride in Dallas and Austin. In some cases mistakes with the technology have led to property damage and in one case an alleged minor injury. We can train them based on data and try to mimic behaviors of humans but when they're faced at different scenarios that maybe are not in the data that they're trained on, they will not work well. Case in point, this red light. While we saw that the right left turn lane light is slightly dim, a human driver would have no problem recognizing it as a red light.
It's not the only video like this.
Another driver captured a Waymo running a red light at the same intersection just days before. Waymo told us it is actively taking steps to address this.
Where there may be a push to get things done faster just because, you know, the revenue model works like that. Um but from a research standpoint we're trying to take it easy and make sure that they are actually verified in house also in simulation.
>> But says he's never taken a ride in an autonomous vehicle for a reason. I have seen a lot of failures not just with autonomous vehicles with autonomous robots.
>> He does believe eventually the technology will catch up.
>> It's better to be safe than sorry. The person who took this dash cam video doesn't want to show his face. So I'm going to read some of the comments.
Somebody says if you had 16 accidents in the year they would they would take your license. Another person says no one wants these and another person says I guess these vehicles are way more dangerous than we know.
This is what's getting me about this, right? What happens if somebody doesn't like you?
And they work for Waymo. What happens if, you know, somebody says oh well you know, um I don't like this, I don't like that or whatever. What happens when that happens? No, I don't even know what's we happening. What? What happens when what?
What What happens if they don't like you and they they just throw the car in the middle of the street?
You know what I mean? People have power.
They have to they look at all the Waymo.
>> about that.
I don't know I'm still not catching >> Hold on hold on hold on hold on. Let me let me say hold on.
What happens if somebody's working at Waymo and it's a political figure and they just tell the car to go into the middle of the street?
Oh, so you've jumped to the worst case scenario. Yeah, okay.
>> We're in America. We are.
I'm like I hadn't even thought about that, right? Like on that type of level, but I would also hope a person of that level that stature would have a private driver, right? Unless we're really going deep into that um if that's like you know if that's what they want to do.
Um I think there's it's good and bad on both sides. Like I obviously someone if they really wanted to be that diabolical, they could absolutely be doing those sorts of things. Yeah.
But I rode in a Waymo multiple times. I did it in Atlanta though. And the thing about Waymos, they are not they can't get on the highway. They only do like the city streets. And something that I did [clears throat] hear in that is that the light is faint. So, that Waymo can only perform as well as it's programmed.
And if it's not programmed to pick it up and they said that same intersection.
So, that means that that those lights need to be fixed there, too. In addition to they need to do some tweaking to the programming on the Waymo, right?
Cuz I had no problems at all. It was actually like really cool. They're like buckle your seatbelt for safety. Like I'll share my video. It was cute and fun. I had other people get in Waymos with me when I when I was there. So, I wasn't I didn't have a bad experience. I was very curious. It was very safe. Um it pulled over and I was watching everything, right? Like so even when it was attempting to turn, it'll like inch a little bit to make sure it's safe. The same that way that we do, but it just maybe inched a little more. Uh just to make sure. But like I didn't have a bad experience. But what I did hear is that a Waymo in that intersection in Dallas is not what's up. It's not programmed right. Like cuz that's what it said.
There were multiple crashes at that same intersection. So, I think it's a update with the city as well as a limitation on the vehicle.
I see. I see. You know, one thing I will say I liked about Waymo is that I didn't have to deal with with an actual person because you know, some of these Uber drivers They be doing too much. They be doing too much and I'm just like first of all, I don't have to tip you.
I don't have to deal with your attitude.
I don't have to deal with smoke in the car. I've I've dealt with a lot of this.
>> All of it. Yeah. I remember this one girl and don't get me wrong, you get hungry, you working, I get it. But she was up there Eating while she was driving?
>> Yeah, and dripping stuff and then she was stopping and the car would jerk and I was like wait a minute.
Wait a minute.
>> [laughter] >> You know, I think we're also being hard on Waymos when humans we do wild stuff every day in the car and the number of accidents that we get into as well. So I think it's one of those things because it's unknown, it's scary.
Me, I I just love new experiences. So I was like a self-driving car, it's the justice. Let's go.
>> [laughter] >> I was excited, but if not it would have been a nice lawsuit. We finally made it. We finally made it.
That's That's what it is. K K K Flo says she said I'm scared. I'm telling you.
Yeah, it be it be a lot it be a lot going on in these Waymos. I'm like yeah, I don't know. I'm a straightforward.
Like but I get it and then I got one of my friends to ride with me. She was holding on tight and cuz I was documenting the whole thing. I said look, she like it now y'all. She like it now. Like you just have to get over there cuz that's crazy when you think about it. You're in a self-driving car.
No one's in there. Like there's so many questions, so many unknown, but they thought of so much in terms of making it a comfortable experience.
Yeah. [snorts] And what we're going to do I don't see any comments in the comment section for this. Well, Lady P G Forever says there was a mouse in the backseat with my brother in the Uber. Oh, no.
Whose Uber? Okay, see this is why we And you know it's bad because how did the mouse get inside the how did it get inside the car? Hello. You know, you got to you got to you got to process that.
Like how did they get inside the car?
That's one of the things I tell people you got to keep your wheel spinning there.
What we're going to do is we're going to go on to the next topic. Now there was two things that happened here.
One of the things is I guess in Arizona, I don't know what school it was in or anything, but they decided to do an AI generated commencement.
And so that's when yeah, I thought that was so messed up. So this is where the kids are going across the stage and it really upset a lot of people. This video got I think almost 200,000 views.
But the I the AI announces the names and skipped over hundreds of people. So as the kids are going over the stage, the AI thing was just rolling and skipping.
And I said, "Why would y'all do something like that?" And I was talking to somebody recently.
>> Did you guys test this out? That's the problem. People just be doing stuff.
They AI this, AI this, AI AI AI. Y'all better be careful cuz it is it you know, all AI is not good AI. So let's take a look. We'll be right back. Graduates, >> [music] >> everyone who is standing, I I this what's this is here's what's happening. We're using a new AI system as our reader.
Yeah.
>> [music] >> Yeah.
So that is that is a lesson learned for us.
Um >> [music] >> what we were able to do though is each of you were able to walk the stage [music] and get a picture, which is what I we would hope would be the most meaningful meaningful um >> [music] >> Yeah. Okay.
So I'm going to have to disappoint any of you. We will not be able to walk [music] the stage a second time in order to have the name on the screen.
You've handed over your cards, so we won't be able to do that.
I am so sorry.
There's plenty of opportunities I hope to take some really good pictures and to celebrate you with your loved ones as well.
Yeah.
Are we going to do the rest? Um yeah. I know.
So I'll go let you do that. Okay.
One more round of applause to our graduates.
>> [applause] [applause] [cheering] >> All righty, everybody.
>> [cheering] >> I have the part of the ceremony that doesn't require AI, so as soon as we figure this out, we're going to be working next.
Do you know how embarrassing that is?
Do you know how embarrassing that is?
That you had to do that.
I'm sorry. That's That's terrible. That That's bad. And then not just that um in addition to that, there was another video.
Uh where did it go? I just had it up.
But there was another video where this child was supposed to get Oh, here it is, right here. I want to show you guys this. I mean, a lot of these schools right now and these teachers and stuff, they just they doing they they're out of order. They out of order. So, this elementary school excludes a special needs student from graduation.
Yes, the kindergarten has to watch through the glass. Take a look at this.
We'll be right back.
Uh the image of a young boy watching his kindergarten classmates receive their graduation diplomas through a glass door is sparking outrage. It's 6-year-old Rigoberto who cries and then comes down in a situation he doesn't understand because according to his parents he should have been inside too.
Well, that it broke our hearts to to see that he wasn't with his little friends because he was shouting, "My friends, my friends." But um and the kids just waved at him and you Because at the day I am very furious as you see they are absolutely furious because the school administration forced them to remain in a completely empty library while everyone else was busy celebrating and cheering inside the auditorium. I started to break down inside so I was so I decided to record that my son was missing out on something he wanted to do with his friends. The day before the school school staff called the mother and asked her to bring her child in at 9:00 in the morning instead of at 7:00 like the rest of the students who they would socialize and had breakfast together. My child wasn't there. He wasn't there hanging out with any of them. His parents say he stood watching from outside as a hundred other kids received their diplomas before he was finally allowed to enter to receive his own. Rigoberto suffers from a global developmental delay which results in significant hyperactivity, persistent learning issues, and a tendency toward distractibility.
According to the parents, the school had CSC and also that they had the Now you can go watch that that's currently on our shorts, but I wanted to read some of the comments. Somebody says as a parent educator, I would have taken that little boy inside and stayed with him while he participated in the activities with his peers. He deserves to have these moments and memories, too.
This is beyond messed up and cruel. I'm sorry, Rigoberto.
Another person says, "He was probably very disruptive and couldn't regulate himself, thereby ruining the event for everyone." Not sure if that was true or not. I I'm sorry, these are kids. Kids are always disruptive. Okay.
>> They did say that he has a condition where he's prone to disruptive behavior, but the para who commented, you put para them one-to-one staff. So I worked in the past with individuals with intellectual disabilities, and so you have one-to-one staff members with them intentionally for this, and you plan for this. This child has been in their school system this entire time, and if he's supported to learn, so if that might meant he had to go out of it a couple of times, you know what I mean, out of the session and come back to get regulated and come back in, then that's what you do. Because then that tells me you you all aren't prepared to support his learning.
Your sound is gone. Oh, no, I'm sorry.
No, I turned off a little bit.
Uh no, it's just one of those things and that was that's the thing to me and Latin people, Hispanics, however you want to say it, y'all sitting here worried about black people?
The school board was to own by mostly white folks. I was just wondering >> wondering I was wondering where you said it was in Arizona. Yeah, uh no, the the other school was in Arizona.
That was the one where but it's Arizona's very white.
>> Well, you're right. I mixed it up. I was just wondering cuz that's the other part.
Context absolutely matters. What school district they're in, I'd be curious about the demographics of the school and in terms of like is it it really a safe and inclusive space for this young kid for them to do that cuz this could actually trigger the dysregulating behavior.
And [snorts] he wants to be in there with his friends, why can't he go?
People, no matter what it is, we know what exclusion feels like. Our feelings are still hurt. It doesn't matter if you have a developmental condition or not, right? Like you want to be included, you want to be by your friends, make it make sense.
Yeah. And that's one of those things I'm just sitting here like to do that and I want you guys to process this as well.
These are children.
Yes, a child.
>> We showed a video and you this was on FTP I think last week of this white lady that threw a shoe at another kid across the room which was a black kid and it's called out on camera. They were also showed a video I think this was yesterday where this white school teacher was sitting there choking out this black this black kid.
Mhm. And sat there and choked him out and he is autistic. I'm sorry. I don't think first of all, I grew up in foster care. I don't think a lot of people should be around children anyways and not especially white folks Foster care or not and it's not a racial thing.
>> It's not a racial thing.
>> do not need to be around children. They don't have the capacity. They don't have the heart for it.
Um and if it's just a check and if you don't have it and then if you're not being properly trained to deal with this. And some people they're taking jobs and they're going in and they're abusing. They're overwhelmed and then they take it out on them. You applied for that job. But also the school settings, they need to a better do a better job of vetting people to protect children. Yeah.
And your episode is going to be coming out on Rising Through with Dr. J. Nicole very soon. It's going to be multiple part where Vision really opens up about his experience in foster care and just like what I was spoiling it, there were people along your journey who intentionally create prison pipelines.
And they use legitimate systems that are supposed to be helping kids to do so.
And so you'll hear more about that in Vision's episode.
It was a It was a good episode, you know. It was a good It was great It was great and I I appreciate that. And that was just a condensed version. We only have so much time.
But we still took up a lot of time. We going to be two to three It's going to be two to three parts.
>> [laughter] >> Cuz we went we still went deep. I hope I hope you bleeped out those cuss words cuz you know, my energy ever since I've been on FTP and this is what a lot of people said You You It was like five other people they said, "We didn't know you cussed." And they were like, "That's not my energy. It's just the energy of FTP." And so I'm trying to get back to me. So I needed love and life to kind of get my >> balance. Yeah, cuz I got to get my energy in order. You know, I want to I got to have more positivity. It can't be There's a lot to be mad about in this world, so I get it, but you don't want to lose yourself in all of that. Yeah.
>> Exactly. And that's one of the things I didn't want to do. Um and then speaking of we just talked about Latins, right?
And so this is not to be mean, but we just going to keep it real. So um this was posted and I actually know cuz I've been to Mexico a few times. So, a Mexico City nightclub goes viral for charging US visitors $30 while people from other countries only pay $20. Oh, that's why.
>> yeah, this is the payment system. I don't know what club it was, but I'll tell you more about this in a minute.
Uh US citizens was $30, other countries was 20, American sorry, Mexicans and Latin Americans was $14 and students and teachers was $8 to $9. And then, you know, while they're sitting there doing stuff like that, again, they're they're very anti-black when they should be anti-black to people that's actually really I mean, the ones out here that created ICE. White folks created ICE, not black folks. Take a look, we'll be right back.
This is my neighborhood. You're following me. You came up to me and grabbed me.
Who is crazy? You touched me.
Why are you calling her a [ __ ] Why you saying something? Why are you calling her a [ __ ] She's She was calling me first. You walked up to me and grabbed me. You're a random white man. You grabbed me.
You did.
You grabbed me.
Because you grabbed me. You're a random white man and you grabbed me. Of course, I'm recording you. You could be a human trafficker. What the [ __ ] is wrong WITH YOU?
I'M BLACK. YOU'RE RACIST. YOU'RE A SO, I'm going to stop that right there, okay?
I said this before on FTP podcast plenty of times. I stated this multiple times.
Stop arguing with these people.
1-866-DHS-2-ICE and move on.
I ain't trying to be mean. We trying to be uplifting, but you're this lady stressing herself out. Y'all screaming and yelling and arguing.
Trump, like my friend said, Trump gave you the keys to the castle.
To not have to argue.
To not have to fight with people.
This man is a foreigner. You can tell by the accent he he either he's first generation or probably second but he's probably second generation cuz he speaks English a little bit better but you can hear that accent in there. Yeah, I was like, "Where's the white man?" Cuz I didn't I didn't hear. Oh, I heard it pretty well.
Uh this is the thing that that gets me even in the comment section they they you can hear it especially in LA you can tell you In LA you can tell who's white and who's really like Latin you can tell it there's no blurring the lines.
Y'all got to stop arguing with these people.
Trump out here got the keys to the castle, move on. We're trying to be trying to spin this but at the same time I'm trying to help you for your mental health. Stop doing it.
It's not worth it anymore. I don't argue with I'm not arguing with nobody no more whether it's with this on the planes I'm just not doing it. When I see something I'm like, "Okay, let me take photos this this that cuz I've got a podcast."
And we and we work very hard and put them on blast and move on. And that's what I want to do. All right, if it's like this 1866 DHS 2 eyes and be done with it. The other thing about the the thing with Mexico that is true because I used to you haven't met Wesley. You you get to meet him soon. But me and Wesley that was like that's my travel buddy. We used to we traveled to Oaxaca. Love that place.
Traveled to Oaxaca on Saturday.
Yes, you did. You did. You did meet me there.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah.
Great energy. He He loved you. I said I said, "Yeah." Dr. J that's my girl.
That's that's my girl.
>> Yeah.
We went to Oaxaca, we went to Guadalajara, we went to Tulum, we went to I went to PV um we went to a lot of places. Now, one thing I didn't like is when we went to Tulum they do charge Americans overpriced stuff. Even the car rental companies when I went to National Car Rental National Car Rental they said, "Oh, the price is going to be it was like $300 in American dollars for the entire week and a half. We get there, the the girl tried to force us to get coverage, but when it came to a Latin person he didn't have to buy no coverage.
I said why are we sitting here buying coverage for a car and I own insurance actually the credit card covers because it was an American car.
>> then you you don't and when you don't know what your credit card covers, yeah.
She was trying to force that and and then other Latin people were coming Mexicans were coming in and they were just picking up cars and so I said ask him. He says no, he said I don't have to pay for no insurance and everything. He says I just grab my car and go. I use my American insurance. Mhm. And we asked her and she wanted to get an attitude and so we did a follow complaint, but we left the car there cuz I said we don't need it anyways, we're going to be doing most of walking.
I'm telling you Latin people, y'all be playing in people's faces a lot and you out here with these white folks and they telling you they don't even like you and you're sitting here doing something like that. Hey, I'm I'm not stressing myself out about any of this stuff. Mhm. The the deportations around the corner and I'm moving past it. Now, Dr. Nicole, I know you're like oh, Chris, you know, they I can't >> I didn't say that.
All I'm going to say is that for a lot of people, especially in tourist areas, you're absolutely right. They're going to run it up on us. Yes.
>> If we don't speak up, they are going they see it cuz they're like who needs insurance? That's an American thing to do. So, they're trying to capitalize on us coming there being in their country, but to see that happening in your face, I would have absolutely addressed it in the same way. It's not a requirement.
So, like no, I'm declining coverage, it's covered on my car. So, there's a lot of things I don't argue with people about. When you know the facts, you speak the facts and a lot of times what we're doing is we're responding from our emotion. Yes. What my insurance covers, okay, that's fine cuz people are going to try to scare you. Fear is a powerful sales tactic. And people use it every single day. That's how they sell all these things to us, right?
And so, you don't have to you have a choice. And I love that you all exercise your rights. When you were like, you know what? We're not going to patron We're not going to spend our money with you when you're clearly trying to take advantage of us.
And actually that story, the still with the different prices at the nightclub >> Mhm. Something like that happened somewhere in the states and they they where they did a ladies night and someone was trying to sue for discrimination based on gender. Yeah.
Here in the US. So, like people do versions of this all the time.
Yeah. But $20 from 200 that that's a egg. Listen, I didn't tell you it was cool, but that's outrageous. But I'm just like, are y'all getting bottle service with that?
>> [laughter] >> Because like what are we paying for, right? Like cuz if this is just to get in First of all, I'm not going to pay you two $300 to get in.
Yes.
Unless we get in the table.
Oh yeah, absolutely. Like they could have paid 300, but what did they get?
Did they get bottle service?
Were they in a VIP section?
>> I I don't think so.
>> don't know. So, that's me I always have more questions, Chris. I always have questions like this This is why like I want to know what's going on behind the surface and what else? Yeah. And what else? Yeah. Yeah, no no I I I I get you on that. And I'm going to read some of the comments. I'm going to go back to this one.
H A C F says, she's better than the me because if you grab me, you're going to catch my 9 mm or 22 whichever I grab first out my purse.
>> [laughter] >> For real cuz I was like, why is that man just grabbing a woman? Like what I see this is the thing that I struggle with sometimes with social media. Mhm. People don't give the whole story. Yeah. You don't see what happened, but the camera gets whipped out when it gets whipped out. But we've also learned to use the camera to protect ourselves. Mhm.
Yeah, and then also agency says we're equal opportunity equalizers. I will call ice on anyone. Somebody says go on go on and says pick your battles call ice papi have a good day lol. And then this other person never seen them before the Connelly says read the fine print rental coverage on your credit card is secondary not primary read the fine print. I read the fine print. You are not forced to buy coverage period. I don't know what fine print you're reading where you it says but you have to buy coverage. Chris, we're not listening to this. No, no, no, no, it's good. It's good. form. Is it okay?
People like to come on sometimes and try to correct and they really be here to troll. But you got it. Well, that tells you the the intelligence of the person.
If the fine print if you read the fine print it doesn't tell you you have to be forced to buy coverage. So like reading comments like this is kind of ignorant at anyways to even write that because I mean it doesn't tell me I have to buy coverage. So why do I have to spend this coverage? That's the problem. Probably Latin person as well or or Mexican or whatever because when they comes to their people they always have to like do that. So that's why I said I'm not worried about it too much. What were you saying? Yeah, that I was just like I already read what that was. When people do that they like they're they're here to just troll. And so thank you for engaging. Uh we appreciate it. Thank you thank you for the comment. I I like it.
But now I like things like comments like that don't bother me like other people's comments. So that's why I don't like really care about it.
>> like giving my energy.
Uh it doesn't bother me. Like I like I I was telling somebody I told somebody one of the other calls before I responded to everybody's stuff. Like it doesn't do nothing but upset you. They say they talk about you. They say this about your skin.
Who cares? I mean they're watching your show. They came to watch you.
I didn't go to watch them.
>> So it's it's a big difference. Uh we're about to go into our last topic of the day and now I know that there's been a lot of issues in regards to missing children.
And I want you guys to take a look at this because this is just making its rounds.
And we will be right back. Stay tuned.
All these black and brown children and young adults getting no news coverage.
And the only one that did get news coverage was just Fetty Wap. And he's been missing since Thanksgiving.
We pray [music] I'm not going to put the sound on, but this is the actual all the children that are missing. All of them black.
Um somebody in the comments they say that black folks stop waiting on white media to report our missing children.
Why don't you put that same pressure on the Breakfast Club, BET, the Oprah Winfrey Network, and all your other black radio and television outlets. But we already know all that who that's all owned by. I mean we got to read between the lines on that one. We all know that.
And then in addition to this, uh he had another thing to say. Take a look. We'll be right back.
You see y'all definitely got a problem.
That 20-year-old that went missing, her name was Jade. She was the fifth body to be found in that by you. 13 bodies have been found in there since. And now we got a picture of the Xavier Young.
Right here. This is the psycho right here. White male, heavy set, mid-30s, brown hair, wearing a red helmet, black and white shoes, maybe blue or or dark green. The helmet threw me off. But you know, he might be riding a bike. That's why he got a helmet on.
Just be aware everybody.
Be safe.
And somebody in the comments says, "Why don't stand up crush out for a good cause?" Another person said, "It's got to be a cop."
This is my thing. Um I was talking to somebody the other day and they were they were talking about like their family members like in New York and stuff like that. And they said they can't tell their kids anything.
Their kids Yeah, I want to go out and hang out with what's-his-name's house.
And I want to do this and do that. And even other black people cuz there's been older black people that's been uh unalived and they can't be finding them as well.
We as black people got way too comfortable with our surroundings. This is still America. America is one of the most brutal uh racist places on Earth right now. And it's always been that for 500 years. And we're walking by ourselves or walking with just one other or walking with a puppy and y'all got to start going in threes and fours. You got to start going with your parents. You got to start going with when the when the lights is on and everybody's out. The problem is we not doing that. Every These And a lot of these kids got to start listening, too. Y'all too grown.
Y'all get on Tik Tok and like, "Oh, this is my friend Timmy and Billy and Bob."
And y'all got to stop doing that. I The just what happened to that kid, that black kid that got pushed in that river and he went to hang out with his his white friends and they pushed him and he ended up drowning and brain damage and passing away.
And you know, it was all this media coverage on it. This was a a story of like last year or year before that. It was all this media coverage on it. And I said, the I I said I I also blame the parents.
I said because y'all got too comfortable. Do y'all not forgetting where we are?
This is America. What what what are you not What are you not processing here?
Y'all got too comfortable with people at work, you know, "Oh, this is my friend Matthew and Billy and and and and Timmy and and Karen." Y'all got too comfortable with them. I'm from Kansas.
I ain't getting comfortable with them or nobody else. I I grew up in foster. I don't have trust in people up anyways.
But when you having trust in these type of people and you already know their history, you you got to you got to kind of understand that. And then in addition to that, you know, when people are like at work or whatever, they're too comfortable.
They they start talking to uh Tim and Bob and all that stuff. And then next thing they know, they're in HR and they're let go. I said because y'all talking to them like they're your friends. They tolerate you. They want entertainment. That's what it is. So, uh what do you think, Dr. Jenicole?
Well, safety is always number one.
Uh I also don't know that like you're correct. Like the world is crazy in addition to the US. And so, you always have to be on swivel. You always have to make choices, but I don't want people to be so afraid that they don't come out the house.
Like all this stuff is very real. You got to have boundaries. You have to have discernment um about >> Is that beeping?
Sorry. You know my next my next thing starts at 7:50.
Um so they're they're joining.
Oh. If if y'all don't know, I'm I I'm a a university educator, too. And so um class is starting and the children are showing up early and I'm wrapping up with you all.
But um I said the children, the young adults.
Um but there has to be that balance, right? We do need safety. We don't want to be out here being like oblivious and just like doing unsmart things. Like you still Because there are times you have to go it alone. It's literally you.
Literally you. You don't even got a little puppy with you. Sometimes it's just literally you and you have to go.
And a lot of times I think people do get victimized because people can see you're not prepared. They can see that you're not paying attention. You're not engaged or you're looking all around. Like you know what I mean? So I believe in like the the fine line, right? Like you don't got to go outside ready for war, but if war comes and you got to protect yourself, then be ready. But you find your balance, still come outside, make smart choices. If it looks crazy, don't keep going forward.
Like you know what I mean?
Um and I don't I wouldn't say not to talk to people, but if you say something that's going to get you sent to HR, what do you talk about at work? Exactly. Talk about some like But I get what you're saying. Like you don't trust everybody and it's not for me it's not about race.
Because like you know, the folks will say all skin folk ain't kinfolk. Like everyone does not have the same values um and point of view. So like it's just people. Pay attention to what you feel in your spirit. Like we have instincts for a reason and socially they've used race as to like kind of cheat that system of that. Now you just see danger based on certain characteristics or whatever they're wearing and things like that when it's a feeling. Is if anyone has ever had that feeling where you got a weird feeling about a person or somebody came past you like that your hair stand up on your arms or the back of your neck like pay attention to those things.
Absolutely. Data.
Absolutely. And that's what I tell people. I say you you got you have to you have to pay attention. Yeah, you will.
But I don't want you to be hypervigilant that you can't be present and enjoy cuz there are some people who they are not they struggle to be comfortable in places. And so they don't because they get so overwhelmed with that fear and that fear will shut your nervous system down.
Have you on high alert.
I I call it keep your spider senses up.
You know, your spider senses are tingling. You got it? You got it You got to keep watching because if you don't if you don't if you don't keep your your spider senses up I mean, that's what that's what going to do.
>> That's instinct, right? And so you you just got to tap in and pay attention to what you feel. If it don't feel right, go the other way.
So what we're going to do is we're going to close out the show.
Uh before we close out the show, I want to read two of the comments here.
This is from HGCF going back to our previous comment. Says I don't have any friends at work. Everyone is a colleague. There it is. There it is.
Mislabeled people. Keep your personal life to yourselves. Uh save topics of having a good weekend. Facts. This is pop You see?
Bringing back that positivity. We going to Hey, good advice. HGCF, thank you so much for that. Also, thank you I sent your email earlier. Thank you so much.
You've been very good at trying to help FTP progress. So thank you so much. We appreciate that. Uh Lady G Forever stated I make sure my own my grown brothers get home safe when they go out with friends. The world is a threat when you open your eyes every morning.
Another thing is uh me and my friends, even uh Wesley, we have trackers on us.
So, if anything happens We've got trackers.

Make sure this is this is there."
>> on the bottom of your shoe, on your keychain, a lot of unsuspecting unsuspecting places. Yeah. Absolutely.
And in addition to that, Dr. J Nicole, where can they find you at? Anything upcoming? Anything exciting? Yes, they can find me on evolvewithdrjnicole.com on different platforms.
