The Indian That Cost £100K! | Bollywed | OMG WeddingsAdded:
We're in an oil building and it constantly needs repairs.
It's the last thing I needed right now.
I guess the compressor is gone. Money pit.
>> I want to replace that one. 10,000 now.
>> 10,000 to replace this. Dad, I can't handle one more thing to fix in this building. Let's just sell this place and move somewhere else out west.
>> This is my baby. Okay, >> Dad. Well, we need a solution.
>> Listen.
Hello.
>> I guess I'm calling the repair guy.
Oh my go for over three decades. The Chandan Fashion Building has been an iconic presence in Toronto's Little India. I spent many of those years trying to convince my parents to build on their success by saying yes to my ultimate dream, opening a second location. And mom finally agreed, which is amazing except for one little problem. Our flagship building is almost 100red years old and it needs repairs.
Expensive repairs.
starting to fall apart. Dad, this taco is a big problem. Dad has decided to renovate. This may not make it financially feasible for us to afford a second location.
>> Molding is all damaged, too.
>> I'm hoping to convince Dad that it's just not worth it.
>> You don't want to ever sell this building?
>> No.
>> Never.
>> No.
>> That's not what I wanted to hear. Any money we put into the flagship store takes away the possibility of opening a new one. But dad has his own priorities.
>> Oh, you change the color.
>> You want to change the color?
>> No, I do opposite. Pink is the whole wall. Molding is the blue color.
>> So you want to make the whole building pink.
>> Whole building pink.
>> The color of your jacket.
>> Yes, please. Whole building this color.
Yeah. Right color bring customer.
Customer bring money.
Today I'm welcoming Beam Nina and Natasha, his two daughters from a previous marriage, and his fianceé Emily, >> who will help him choose what to wear on his big day.
>> Hello.
>> Hi.
>> Welcome. My name is Sha Lee. I'll be helping you.
>> I'm Bean.
>> Nice to meet you, Bean.
>> What are you looking for today?
>> Want him to look like my handsome king that he is. Can definitely make you a king. Before we kind of start with you, I wanted to kind of get an idea. How did you guys meet?
>> One of the best parts of the job is hearing all of the wonderful love stories.
>> It was an epic meeting. He was in a restaurant downstairs. As I was walking down, I looked at her and I was in awe.
>> That was it. After I met him, my heart was his.
>> She has transformed me into a new person.
>> Oh, that's beautiful. How do you guys feel about dad getting married?
>> We've known Emily for 13 years now. Kind of like grew up kind of with her, so we're super excited.
>> All right, so Beam, why don't you come over with me and we'll go try some outfits.
>> Sounds good. Let's do this.
>> Bye.
>> Okay. Bye. Good luck.
>> See you.
>> I got Beam into a great outfit.
>> Wow.
>> You look like a king for real.
>> Just in time for dad to say hello.
>> How are you?
>> Good, man. I love it.
>> You guys are all so matching. Look at this.
>> What do you think, Dad?
>> Man, this is Maharata.
>> Yeah, thanks. Yes.
>> Beam is a celebrity in our community. He is a self-made multi-millionaire. And our dad has huge respect for him.
>> Turns out the feeling is mutual.
>> And your dad, you know, he's running this store for 40 years. Congratulations to you.
>> Thank you. You've done a great job and great service to the Indian community and non-Indian people as well.
>> He's successful, >> but he's humble.
>> He looks great.
>> This is a fully embroidered Shirani top to bottom with the silver crystals that are really popping through and shining through in this outfit.
>> I love it.
>> So pretty.
>> And it's paired with a matching velvet shaw.
>> That is really cool, honey.
>> It fits so nice. I love it.
>> So, would you like to see another outfit?
>> I would love to. Okay.
>> Three, two, one.
>> Your majesty.
>> Wow.
>> So, you guys asked for a king and we delivered. So, this outfit, the full package, the turban, the necklace, and the shawl along with the shirwani.
Perfect for a grand entrance.
>> From now on, no more taxes.
>> I like this king right here.
>> Bet.
I love it. I hope BIM spends lots of money >> to repair our store.
>> Yes.
>> My name is Jalen.
>> Engin. Nice to meet you. Thanks so much for coming down to Little India.
>> No problem.
>> If I'm going to convince my dad that the repairs aren't worth doing, I'm going to need some hard numbers.
>> I know you prepared the estimate for us here at the store. Thank you so much.
It's a big job.
>> The main problem you have is the the water issue. So you don't have proper water drainage.
>> Yeah.
>> We will have to remove the complete system of the wall.
>> The whole wall.
>> Whole wall.
>> Yeah.
>> Things are going to fall up. Yeah.
>> How much is it going to cost me?
>> It will cost you uh just below 100,000.
>> What?
>> This is bad news for a small business.
>> Hi Dad.
>> Hi Sean. How are you?
>> Good. Good.
Let dad see the price for a second.
>> So this price is a feature.
>> Right now all dad is seeing is that price tag.
>> Your molding se molding.
>> Hi.
>> Hi.
>> The difference between mom and dad is that dad likes to negotiate >> any negotiate price for this one.
>> Mom, she wants to get right to the point.
>> What's the best you can give us the price?
>> This one.
>> This was the best I can do >> for me. This is the realistic price.
Honestly, >> this is the proper way of doing it.
$100,000.
>> $100,000.
>> I will be adjusting for you.
>> All right. No problem.
>> Thank you.
>> No problem.
>> I think my plan of getting dad to reconsider the repairs is working.
>> And it's not just the outside that needs fixing. This thing is leaking like crazy. There's always issues with the building and there's always Jund go find someone for the heating. Chanden go find someone for the AC. Chen, go find someone for the ceiling.
>> I want to change the whole ceiling. that one >> or it's John that we need an elevator in the building.
>> We built the room so the elevator could come here. It's never over.
>> I just don't think it makes a lot of sense to keep on pouring money into this building. I don't think we can figure this out. Let's see what mom has to say about this.
>> Mom says the budget, budget, budget.
>> We're never going to get a second location.
Yes, store need very big repair.
>> 6 7 8 boxes. Okay, thanks very much. But work never stop even at night.
All right, you can hear us.
>> Yes.
>> Okay, great.
>> I don't only want a second location to where the customers have moved. My dream is to have a business that runs a bit differently than how mom and dad run it.
>> Can you put the camera the other way?
>> Like ordering the latest collection.
>> Good, good, good, good.
>> I want to save time and money by not having to make frequent trips to India.
>> It's a long gown.
But I can't feel it. You can't really see.
>> But mom and dad aren't on board.
>> The next one.
>> So the next one is holy.
>> This is the gray.
>> So this is a lavender.
>> Lavender. See, that's what I mean. We can't tell what color you're looking.
>> Do you have any yellow light?
>> And it's a powder blue.
>> You can't do that to the TV.
>> You can show us the next one.
That's why Chandana was telling you better to go to India.
>> Trust me. Can we just try doing it my way?
>> Hi.
>> Who do we have here?
>> Hey, how are you? Good to see you.
>> Good to see you.
>> Beautiful. It's Emily's turn now.
Beautiful.
>> So, we got to make sure that we are matching up to Bean's level of bling. So tell me a little bit of what you're thinking. What's your vision?
>> I want to feel comfortable in what I'm wearing.
>> Yeah, absolutely.
>> I want people to be like jaw drop and do double takes.
>> That sounds perfect.
>> And another thing that's perfect is Emily's Hindi.
>> What's that saying in Hindi?
>> I love that one.
>> Let's go ahead and pick out some outfits. Okay, >> follow me to the back.
>> Mom.
Hey, Mom.
>> Hi.
>> Me and Mr. Singh just had an interesting meeting. We're talking about the renovations.
>> Okay.
>> Okay. Do you know what he wants to do to the building?
>> He wants the whole building in pink.
>> Pink color building.
>> Well, I love the pink. Okay. Look nice.
Look nice.
I find it a little bit too fleshy, >> man. Attraction. Number one is attraction.
>> The man knows how to sell. I'll give you that. I also noticed there are leaks from the AC. What should we do, Mom?
Should we do the AC or should we do the Stuckco or should we just wait and spend the money on the new location?
>> It's true. I said yes to the second location. But that was before we get the high price tag for the stuckco.
We have to make our attraction to outside.
>> Thank you.
>> Where's the people going to come?
>> Thank you very much.
>> Well, my plan backfired. I thought mom and dad would be put off by all the high cost of the repairs and delay them, but her and dad just went ahead with the stucco.
>> I said yes to stucco, but does it have to be pink?
You look absolutely stunning.
>> Emily, how are you feeling?
>> I'm feeling amazing.
>> It seems like you know a lot of Punjabi and Hindi too.
>> I learned I tell people I don't know because when he's talking on the phone or talking to somebody, I actually know what he's saying. That's my little secret.
>> I love that you've really accepted the culture. It's beautiful.
Okay, Emily, let's show them how gorgeous you look.
Emily, come on out.
>> Oh my gosh, >> that's really nice.
>> This is all pure silk base. It's all handstitched.
Each and every single crystal and zero dozy. You can see the level of intricacy that's in there.
>> This is one of the prettiest things I've ever seen. I want to see how heavy it is. Let's see.
>> Be careful.
>> I don't know.
>> That dress must be at least 10 20 lbs.
Double thumbs up for me. It's It's beautiful. I'm a little nervous that uh some other guy will take her away.
>> I don't think you'll be able to carry me.
>> How many thumbs up, ladies?
>> I'm a one. I'm still a one. Mainly because I think with your complexion and your hair color, we need to see bolder color. So, we're now we're going to up the antique.
>> Oh my gosh, >> honey. Your queen has arrived.
>> Wow.
>> It's a very modern cut blouse. Still the traditional hand work with that modern touch. I love everything about this look. We got a bold color, but we still have gold, which matches her complexion and her hair. So, >> let's not forget about the ring.
>> Yes, the ring.
>> All together, this is the look.
>> I'm thinking two thumbs up.
>> I think definitely.
>> If I had more thumbs up, I'd go more.
>> Six thumbs up.
>> The price for this outfit is $15,000.
>> Oh my god.
My honest opinion, >> yeah, >> she is well worth it.
>> The real question is, >> can you dance in this outfit?
>> Be spend lots of money in my store.
>> Good business is a blessing.
One of the key engines of our business is my dad's connections to Bollywood celebrities.
>> I love the star. Come to our store.
>> I mean, dad has met some of the biggest names in Bollywood. Shah Ruk Khan, Shashetti, Hikar, Roshan, Dinder, the list goes on.
>> That's it. Let's go.
>> Oh, >> have you ever been to Ken?
>> Yes. Yes. Yes.
>> And it's super special to know that I can carry that momentum forward and have celebrities come visit our store to this day.
>> Hey guys. Hey bro. What's happening?
>> So nice to meet you.
>> How you doing?
>> Superstar band Josh are in the house.
>> Good. What's going on man?
>> So glad to have you guys. Thank you for coming.
Josh is the first South Asian band I saw on TV. I grew up with them. To have them come in the store is a huge honor. I am so excited.
>> What's happening, man?
>> So nice to meet you, bro.
>> How you doing?
>> Hey, man. Looking good.
>> What's going on, man?
>> Because they've sold millions of albums, won tons of awards, and have performed around the world.
>> I can't wait to show you guys stuff.
>> Group and Q want me to dress them.
and I got to bring my agame. Well, I remember when I saw you guys do your thing and the music videos were blowing up and it was really cool to see that representation. Us being Josh is the only Indian and Pakistani band on the planet and we didn't do that by design.
>> So, we found out when I had to go to Pakistan and I needed a visa or he went to India and needed a visa, then we realized, wait a second, this is a fun >> this is a this is a big deal.
>> RP and Q are performing at a massive Canadian festival. So, the outfits, they have to be just right.
>> So, we're headlining this year and I think they're expecting 30 to 40,000 people.
>> Wa.
>> That's a big festival.
>> It's a big festival and uh I think that because it's summer, it's probably going to be hot. We want something that'll breathe.
>> Let's do it. I'm excited. Okay. So, something breathable. I also want something with a little bling, a little pop on it on stage. To have them wearing our garments on stage in front of thousands of people is an opportunity I can't miss. I picked up something I think would have a bit more of a stage presence.
>> I think that you could rock something like this rope. And for Q, I'm thinking something like this. Something a bit more of a asymmetrical cut at the bottom.
>> Love it.
>> Depends on how coordinated you want to get, but I would get that same sort of deep ruby color pocket square here.
>> And that way you just kind of tie it in just nicely with each other. Actually, >> when he says maybe, he's like, "Hell no."
>> Yeah. He's like, "No, let's not do that."
>> Dude, I'm liking this.
>> It's got red, white, and blue, which is my hockey team's color. Montreal Canadians.
>> There you go.
You know what I'm saying?
>> Don't let my dad hear you say you're a Habs fan.
>> What?
>> You guys are going to be wearing this on stage.
>> Yes.
>> Everyone's going to get to see you guys in custom Chandan fashion.
>> Absolutely. And we're going to give you a nice shout out on stage. That's like for sure.
>> Yes. I still can't believe I got to meet my favorite childhood band. And I'm not the only fan in this household.
>> I'm going to introduce you to someone to very special.
>> This is my mom.
>> I love Jos music since Jan was young.
>> She loves singing.
>> What do you sing?
>> Love a little bit singing. I'm not a professional singer like you guys.
>> You know, whenever somebody says that to us and they start singing and they sound better than us, that's when the problem.
>> That's our cue. We're like, "Yeah, we're like, >> okay, okay, take care." I was wondering if you guys would sing most of them like just a small line from it.
>> Yeah, absolutely. Why not?
>> Will you join us?
>> Yeah. Would you >> I'll try.
>> I'm awesome. Chant maybe some snaps.
Huh?
>> I'm awesome.
I'm awesome. Oh, I'm awesome.
I'm awesome.
I awesome.
Hey. Oh yeah.
>> Singing with chos was really nice. It felt good.
>> Okay, everybody's going to say I'm awesome. Ready for this? Five, six, seven. I'm awesome.
I'm awesome. Oh, I awesome.
I'm awesome.
Yeah, >> there we go.
>> Thank you. Thank you.
>> What a proud moment to share with my mom. To have her meet Rup and Q and to sing with them.
>> I can't even put into words.
>> That was awesome.
>> Yeah, she rocked it.
>> Building is my baby.
My baby need a dress. A pink one.
Hello. Hi. How are you?
>> I'm good, thank you.
>> Good, brother. Pink dress needs a better price.
>> So, we called another contractor. You're >> bringing estimate today, huh?
>> Yes.
>> Oh, that's good.
>> It has all the same details as we spoke.
It's going to be complete removal of all of your previous stuckco. And then we're going to start with our three sides, including the balcony, this side, and the front side. How much is the price?
>> We brought it down to 63,500.
It's the best I can do for you.
Hey, no little bit room for uncle. Yo, look my son. Okay, I don't want pressure you. I don't want pressure you.
>> I'll take another 2,000 off.
>> You say 60. Okay.
60 is for you.
>> I t the price down. Even more.
>> My husband take care of everything.
>> Friendship is first. Okay. But when I get married and I bring my wife, you take care of me. You married I will look after you probably. Okay.
>> Always the best way >> with saving of stuckco. Maybe second location is possible.
>> Well that's music to my ears. And with the stuckco going ahead I got a scale model of the building to showcase the new look.
>> Take the pieces out and show you what we're working with.
>> Whoa.
>> That is hand.
>> Look at that. That is >> I might not have mentioned dad's color preference.
>> What do you think, Dad?
That's not pink. I want my pink. I want to pink color. That's a my choice. Pink and the blue. That's it. I'm going now.
>> Just the model or the whole building?
>> Whole building pink and blue.
>> Hey, Dad. Why don't we paint the second location pink, too?
Thank you very much. I do want to give a shout out tonight to uh the people that dressed us tonight.
A big shout out to Chundan and the and the entire family.
Heat. Heat.
