ICE Detention is Harming Families

[00:00:00]We are outside of the Geo Detention Facility in Aurora and we got to hear directly from a lot of people who are impacted by detention. We heard from a mental health professional about the impacts of detention.

[00:00:13]>> So, I'm a licensed clinical social worker. About a year ago, I offered to provide mental health support if I could inside the detention facility and so I started visiting. It was so dehumanizing and so heartbreaking.

[00:00:25]And these are not criminals. These are people who have been separated and pulled from their families, from their loved ones and they are suffering so intensely and I think a lot of it has to do with the dehumanization.

[00:00:36]And a lot of them of the people I visited, almost everyone will say, "But I'm not a criminal."

[00:00:41]I'm not a criminal. It just does so much harm to the people inside, so much harm to the families, to the little kids on the outside and it's really just heartbreaking to watch.
