Queer migrants shouldn’t become “whitewashed” 🫤

[00:00:00]a lot of us come from former British colonies and having that relationship with this ex-colonial master, how do we reconcile what was done to us, kind of looting or the kind of disadvantages that it brought to our societies and which brought us way back, how do we then reconcile uh with this our existence in a country like this and also ensuring that we hold on to our identities and you know, we do not get white wash. We We do not get, you know, in the name of assimilation, we just lose our roots, lose our culture, lose our traditions. That is something that I feel like people, you know, especially when come here, you know, English is not their native first language, they feel like they have to assimilate and it causes a lot of like blatant adaptation of a culture and the idea that one particular Western European culture is superior to to all the experiences we have had that I see is a challenge in in the queer majority community here.
