Budget airlines like Spirit Airlines serve as crucial economic stabilizers in the transportation market by keeping fares affordable for low-income and working-class travelers; when such airlines fail due to rising operational costs (particularly fuel prices), it removes a key competitive force that suppresses prices across the entire industry, potentially leading to higher travel costs and broader economic impacts including job losses and recession indicators.

Spirit Airlines Going Out of Business… Why This Isn’t Funny 🚨 (Recession Warning)Added:
Gas got to them. They could no longer afford the fuel. 17,000 workers are going to be out of jobs including 14,000 employees and thousands of contractors and people who just depended on Spirit.
All y'all flights are cancelled. Now, if you have a ticket from Spirit Airlines and you need to get to where you need to go, here the airlines that are willing to work with you. American Airlines has a fair cap, it's price limit. They're going to help you with making sure that the prices don't skyrocket when you turn that ticket in. Frontier to the rescue.
Y'all get up to 50% off. All my Miami girls, go ahead and lock in. United is often like two to 300 one-way fares, but here's the kicker. You may have to do a loyalty sign-up. They trying to get in on the back end. JetBlue got $99. I'll run for them. They rebooking quickly and you knew Southwest wasn't going to be left out. They going to offer you some low fares. Honestly, I ain't never heard of one at the bottom. The effects of this war is starting to hit corporations. I know they [ __ ] nervous now. Let's see who makes the phone call to Wigs R Us.
Everybody's laughing at Spirit Airlines going out of business, but let's be real for a second. This isn't funny. People just lost their jobs and this might be a warning sign of something way bigger happening in our economy. And first and foremost, I just want to say thank you to everyone for all the support of the channel. And if you are new here, my name is Suzette and I react to different videos about life. So, if that is something that you like, please uh subscribe, comment, share and let's get into the videos.
Y'all laughing at Spirit Airlines, but y'all about to miss them. So, the airline formerly known as Spirit is gone. Shut down. Left a whole lot of folks stranded at airports like, "What we supposed to do now?" And this is the part people don't want to talk about.
Spirit Airlines did not fail because people weren't flying them. They failed because it became too expensive to exist. So, jet fuel prices have gone up.
The cost of business has gone up. So, these budget airlines, they going to have a problem staying afloat in a situation like that. See, the big dogs got cushion. The little dogs like Spirit, they didn't. Now, Spirit did have a a bad reputation. Let's be honest about that. But see, this is the thing.
If you knew how to use their system, you were good. You ain't have no problems.
Spirit might have actually had the last cheap airline seat that you could afford. And for real for real, I don't think they going to be the only one. Did you ever fly Spirit? Did you think they were trash or just misunderstood? And now that Spirit is gone, do you think their flights are going to get more expensive?
>> [music] >> The White House never wanted to save Spirit Airlines because Spirit Airlines was the only flying option for low-income people, and Republicans hate low-income people. You know how I know?
Because research literally shows that just Spirit Airlines' existence in a marketplace lowers fares in nearly every case. For example, a 2016 study documented a Houston to Kansas City route that was serviced only by United Airlines. Tickets on average went for $300 until 2014 when Spirit Airlines also began to service on that route.
Spirit offered fares closer to $90, and United was forced to bring down the average fare down to $180. And the effect was seen again and again in routes across the country. And anytime Spirit left a specific market, the average fares of other airlines jumped 23% or roughly $60 for a round trip flight. Meaning, these billion-dollar airline corporations need Spirit Airlines to [ __ ] go away in order for them to make record profits off of our backs. And by the way, there's no doubt in my [ __ ] mind that the video sensationalizing Spirit Airline passenger fights or bad customer service at the airport gate or turbulence on the planes was a psyop by billion-dollar airline corporations to suppress Spirit Airline ticket sales. And I believe this for two very important reasons. Number one, because [ __ ] aside, Spirit Airlines had a flawless flying record.
They have never had a fatal passenger accident in all the years they've been in business, so none of the other airlines had anything on them. But for two, interestingly enough, the potential bailout that the White House was going to do for Spirit Airlines apparently sparked backlash from both the airline industry and among Republicans in Congress cuz they argued that previous bailouts have been in support of all US airlines, not a single carrier or group of airlines. So to be clear, these billion-dollar airline companies were mad that they weren't getting bailout money that they didn't even [ __ ] need, and their tantrum along with Republicans ended affordable airline travel for low-income and working-class folks forever. That's what the [ __ ] happened.
I've never flown with them, so I can't speak on the experience. But that's not even the point. A whole company shutting down that affects real people, flight attendants, pilots, customer service workers. And when businesses start collapsing like this, it usually means something deeper is going on. And in my opinion, this feels like the early signs of a recession. And if that's the case, don't be surprised when prices start rising even across the board, travel, groceries, everything.
Uh let me know what you guys think.
I don't know who the [ __ ] need to hear this, but it seem like to me y'all don't know what and what not to [ __ ] to laugh at. Y'all sitting up laughing at the fact that these people don't lost their jobs and that Spirit Airlines has canceled all the flights, but it's Spirit Airlines that a lot of y'all [ __ ] needed.
I see a lot of [ __ ] laughing at that that pay their tickets in four piece installments.
How y'all [ __ ] going to get to Miami now?
Yeah, I don't think that's so funny.
And what's even crazier about it is is we talking about people who have lost their jobs, have a family to feed, and when they bought houses, got rent to pay, car notes, bills to pay, school clothes to buy, the food for their children.
Like, people really don't know where their next dollar going to come from.
And I see a lot of y'all out here mumbling and heckling and laughing without understanding that mental health is real.
And you never know what a person may do or won't do when their job has been affected, okay? There's millions of people who walk around here with no employment that's looking to take yours.
So, the more people that's added to those list of people who don't have employment, it makes it more dangerous for us who do.
Yeah, so I don't think nothing funny about that.
I don't think nothing funny about that.
It's people with kids.
It's people who got [ __ ] to take care of. It's people who just getting started. Like, this type of [ __ ] right here is bold as hell and it's a wake-up call for what's really going on out here in the [ __ ] world.
Yeah.
Gas prices already going up. So, how much y'all think it's really going to cost to fly now?
The fact that a whole airlines is gone, that means it opens the door up for other airlines to increase their prices because they know that you [ __ ] us [ __ ] is still going to need to go and get there.
Ain't nothing funny about that.
I'm sure you've heard by now that Spirit Airlines has officially shut down, but what you may not know is that they had to give the United States government the middle finger during these talks of a $500 million bailout because the US was on some mess.
And so, here's what two things occurred that made them turn down the $500 million bailout. Number one, the US government said, "We want to take 90% of your stocks as we give you this $500 million bailout and then convert half of your fleet into military planes."
Huh?
Huh? Are we doing that bad in Iran that we got to We need Okay, no. So, Spirit Airlines said, "You can go ahead and sit on it and rotate. We're not doing that." And then, the second thing that came out was, "Well, fine. If we give you this money, y'all have to pay us back first."
Is the US government that broke? We pining for $500 million? Trump just took $10 billion for his border peace. Why y'all worried about $500 million? But, Spirit was like, "No. That's not how business works. We're a publicly traded company. We have to pay our investors first. Y'all going to have to wait." And the United States is like, "No. We have priority cuz we're giving you the bailout." And they're like, "No. This goes back to the Ford company. Like, you know, this doesn't work. We need to pay our investors." And so, the United States government was like, "Well, no.
If you don't pay us, we don't give you money." And Spirit said, "Y'all have a good day." And then they shut down after 34 years.
And this is really sad, y'all, because the only real reason Spirit Airlines had to shut down is because of the war in Iran. This is literally because of the Trump administration's decisions. They forced them to shut down because the oil prices went through the roof because we attacked Iran for no reason. And they closed the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation of our attack that was for no reason.
And the sad part about the whole thing is that Spirit Airlines was really working to keep flights affordable for regular people. That was their business model. And a lot of people were able to travel because of Spirit Airlines being so cheap, you know?
And they were around for 34 years, so that's not a short amount of time. They were doing pretty well. And it's sad because if you look at like the bullet trains and stuff in China and Japan and throughout parts of Europe, in China and Japan, domestic tourism is on the rise because bullet trains are cheap, relatively cheap and affordable.
You know, you can get up to far away parts of your country for a reasonable price. Same for the sleeper buses, same for a whole bunch of things in the country. It's affordable. The transit is affordable. And the plane tickets are way cheaper than they are over here in the United States. Same thing for Europeans, they get to travel throughout Europe much more effectively. And some places still are a little tricky to get to, but overall, the transit systems, the bullet trains, the the buses and everything allow people to travel. So, they're visiting the other countries easily on cheap for cheap. But in the United States, the one company that's like vying to keep things cheap for the passenger shuts down because jet fuel prices went through the roof.
This is a really sad day, y'all. They were trying to help people out and not just charge charge charge charge charge like crazy.
Keep those costs down and now they've suffered for it because the Trump administration made a poor decision attacking Iran.
Even though everyone knew they would close the Strait of Hormuz.
This is a really sad day.
Y'all have a good one.
