Hybrid storage solutions like Intel Optane Memory, Windows ReadyBoost, and SSHDs emerged as cost-effective alternatives to expensive SSDs by using flash memory as a cache layer to accelerate traditional hard drives, and as storage prices continue to rise, this hybrid approach may experience a resurgence to provide performance benefits without the high cost of pure SSD storage.

SSHDs are going to make a comeback | oblig. F AI追加:
I just found something inside of my IT box of forgotten technology and you guys are about to get an info dump. So, check this out. This right here is an SSD, but this is a special SSD. You see, Intel came out with a thing called obtain memory and what it would do is it would store a cache of your file system so that it would speed up your computer and it worked. It [clears throat] worked pretty good actually. So, check this out. Those old hard disks, those spinning disk, they're really really slow. Like any SSD is at least 10 times faster than any of those spinning disks.
We're about to go over the history of this and just like just discuss it cuz why not? I like tech. If you're watching this, you probably like tech too. All right, Windows had this novel idea back in Windows 7, okay? They knew that those spinning disks, they sucked and they knew that SSDs were prohibitively expensive, like they are now. So, they came up with the bright idea of, "Hey, what if we allow people to plug in a flash drive and use that as a storage cache in order to speed up their system?" And it worked. It actually worked pretty good, too. Um, I did this on a gaming computer and I had a USB that had a metal enclosure and let me tell you that sucker got hot, hot, hot.
That did not feel good on my bare skin.
Do not recommend and yeah, this is kind of like a a dead tech now. Nobody really uses it anymore because everybody has an SSD.
But, they are well, this is the current price of a bottom of the barrel SSD. Two years ago, these things cost 30 bucks a piece. I bought a few. They are trash. Don't ever use them, by the way. They cannot survive a second flash. So, that because these SSDs are prohibitively expensive now, we're probably going to be seeing SSHDs making a comeback. So, hard drive manufacturers came out with a novel idea too. They installed flash memory directly on the disk itself so that you would get the best of both worlds without having to install Intel obtain memory or a USB for caching or an SSD for caching. And if you want to learn more about these SSHDs, you can go check out this YouTuber down below. It's a 13-year-old video and I'm just trying to get this guy some traffic.
All right, I want to end this video by talking about how these techs are still used. You see, back in the day they used to use these like PC enthusiasts to speed up your computer. You would install an SSD as cash. This is still a practice, but it's only really done in servers. And on my NAS, I have two SSDs that are installed.
This is one that I don't have it installed in. But what it would do is it gives you the speed of an SSD without the expense because everything is still stored on your hard disks. A 2 terabyte SSHD for 200 bucks on Amazon right now.
Come back.
