Canada's declining birthrate, caused by the unaffordability of starting a family due to high living costs and housing prices, cannot be adequately addressed by immigration policies alone, as having children involves emotional and relational dimensions beyond mere population numbers; a healthy society requires genuine solutions that enable young people to afford family formation.

Restore the North Episode 11 | Canada's Declining BirthrateAdded:
A healthy country is one where people who want to have kids can afford to have kids.
That is pretty logical. Like literally the long-term survival of a nation is being able to have kids and raise them in safe and healthy environments.
And yet Canada finds itself in a situation where an overwhelming number of young men and young women are saying they can't afford to start a family.
Sometimes that's because they just don't have a lot of money left over at the end of the day when they pay their bills.
Because even though they work hard and earn what used to be a good salary, the cost of living is just exploded.
In other cases, it's because they can't afford a home.
And they can't even imagine what it would look like to move out of their own parents' house, never mind become a parent themselves.
See, this is a very, very serious problem if you claim to be a nationalist, if you claim to believe in Canada and want a long-term successful vision for this country.
And yet the elbows up movement and the elbows up Prime Minister Mark Carney don't really talk about this problem very much, do they?
In fact, the young men and young women who raise this issue never even really get a response from the federal government as to what their plan is to make sure that starting a family is more affordable.
It's tragic. It's tragic because we've had this declining birth rate in Canada for many years now. Many, many years.
And yet no real solutions are being brought to the table by the federal government. What is brought to the table by the federal government? Well, if you ask them what do we do about the declining birth rate, what do we do about the declining population? Their solution, the liberal solution is immigration.
They just bring even more people into the country.
And they think that's an adequate response to people wanting to have more kids. Doesn't really make sense now, does it?
It doesn't make sense at all.
Because when people want kids, it's not just to add numbers on a spreadsheet as the liberals and Mark Carney generally likes to think of human beings in this country.
No, no. When people want to have kids, it's also about love and relationships and family and community.
Go and ask anybody who's a new father or a new mother, and they'll tell you how much it has changed their life for the better. Now, I'm sure there are some exceptions, but for the majority of people, this is one of the most transformational experiences you could ever have.
One of the most wonderful, beautiful experiences you could ever have. Turning boys into men.
Giving people a sense of purpose that they never knew they had before.
So, how exactly does immigration solve for that?
It doesn't.
And I say this as someone who is critical of liberal immigration policies. Yes, who is critical of mass migration. Yes, I am.
But I say that not because I'm pointing a finger at immigrants or their cultures or their backgrounds or making some value judgment on any group of people.
I say it because I know and you know what a healthy society looks like.
And a healthy society is one that plans for the future, has an attachment to the future, is helping shape the future by raising kids.
So, the young men and young women across this country who say they want to start start but it's too expensive.
The moms and dads who say, "I want more kids, but it's too expensive."
I think they deserve a real solution from the government. Real ideas and real opportunities to be able to live up to their potential as people and to live their dreams.
And we're not going to get there with an affordability crisis as we're experiencing right now.
Of course, if you ask Mark Carney, he would point to the Iran war or other things that are happening around the world to explain the affordability crisis away.
But the truth is that there's a lot of homegrown issues that need to be dealt with.
Why does the Iran war even affect us as much as they do because we are not producing as much oil as we should be based on what we have under our own soil.
We have a productivity crisis in this country. We have businesses leaving this country. We have businesses closing down. We have fewer young people starting businesses.
Canada right now does not have a growth mind-state.
And that's what we need. And that is what starting your family is all about. It's about growth.
So, instead of having this conversation dominated by immigration policy, I'd like to start seeing people in positions of power talk about how we can help young people start the families that they want.
I think that's pretty important for the future of Canada.
