A 'hick' is a countable noun referring to an unsophisticated person from the countryside, often perceived as gullible, naive, and lacking experience; it can also function as an adjective describing provincial or unsophisticated things, and while it has synonyms like yokel, country bumpkin, and hillbilly, it carries a disapproving connotation that should be used carefully.
