The video provides a clear and accurate explanation of how the conservation of angular momentum shaped our solar system's uniform motion. It is a solid piece of science communication that makes fundamental celestial mechanics accessible to everyone.

WHY ALL 8 PLANETS MOVE IN THE SAME DIRECTION
Added:Eight planets.
All moving the same direction.
Counter-clockwise.
Every single one.
That is not a coincidence. That is a clue.
4 and 1/2 billion years ago our entire solar system was one object.
A single massive cloud of gas and dust slowly spinning in space.
When that cloud collapsed under its own gravity, it did not collapse evenly.
It spun faster.
The same way a figure skater pulls in their arms and speeds up, the cloud shrank and its rotation accelerated.
Physicists call this the conservation of angular momentum.
What it means is simple.
Whatever direction the cloud was spinning, everything born from it inherited that spin.
The sun formed at the center.
The leftover gas and dust flattened into a spinning disc around it.
Inside that disc, dust clumped into rocks.
Rocks clumped into boulders.
Boulders became planets.
And because every planet was built from the same rotating disc, they all orbit the same way.
Counter-clockwise.
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
All of them still carrying the memory of that first ancient spin.
But here is where it gets strange.
Venus rotates backwards.
If you stood on Venus, the sun would rise in the west and set in the east.
Uranus rotates completely on its side, like a bowling ball rolling around the sun.
So, what happened?
Catastrophic collisions.
The early solar system was a violent demolition derby.
Giant impacts were common.
Scientists believe Venus was hit by something massive, large enough to flip its entire rotation.
Uranus got knocked onto its side the same way.
The exceptions don't break the rule, they confirm it.
Think about what this means.
The iron at the core of Earth and the iron in your blood, same cloud.
The water in the oceans and the ice on Saturn's moons, same cloud.
Every planet moving right now, tonight, as you watch this, still rotating from a spin that began before the Sun even existed.
But here is the question scientists still cannot answer.
Where did the original cloud get its spin?
That answer is still out there.
