Waking up with HIGH blood sugar levels? (What to do)Added:
Do you wake up with high blood sugar levels that keep getting higher even if you skip breakfast? Here's what's going on and what you can do about it. Your morning blood sugar levels, also known as your fasting blood sugar, is mostly determined by what your liver does overnight. So, when you wake up with high blood sugar levels, it's not coming from the food that you ate the night before. It's literally coming from your liver dumping glucose into your bloodstream in the early morning hours.
When your body wakes up, it secretes certain hormones like cortisol, adrenaline, growth hormone that help your body wake up. Those hormones tell your liver, "Hey, dump some glucose into the bloodstream." It happens to absolutely everybody, by the way. But, when you're insulin resistant, your liver doesn't know when to stop the production and secretion of glucose into the bloodstream. It becomes blind to that signal of insulin that is telling it, "Hey, stop producing glucose. We have enough." But, your liver is insulin resistant. So, skipping breakfast is not going to fix the problem. As a matter of fact, you may continue to see your blood sugar go higher and higher because your liver is just dumping more and more glucose. I have good news and bad news.
The bad news is that this problem is not going to be fixed within a few hours, okay? So, eat your breakfast. The good news is that you can certainly reverse this problem. You can make your liver become insulin sensitive again and respond to the signals of insulin. And here's how you do it. In summary, NMS.
