Proper composite setup requires thorough hand hygiene, complete equipment preparation before patient seating, systematic organization of instruments in the order of use, and verification using a checklist to ensure all materials including wooden wedges, cotton rolls, etch, micro brushes, composite materials, anesthetic supplies, and documentation are ready for the procedure.

Composite Set upAdded:
we're going to set up for composite today all right there's a few things you need to know a you should always start by washing your hands so it's okay to put on your barriers with clean hands all right i'm gonna wash my glasses here all right the other thing that you need to know is that before you seat your patient you should always have everything completely set up you never know when your doctor is gonna walk past the room and see a patient sitting in there and say oh they must be ready for me because you know it's it's okay for them to assume that you should be ready for them so we want to make sure that before we seat our patient even if our patient were to be ready right now we want to make sure that we have everything out and ready to go before we bring them back it also just looks more professional you don't want to set up too far ahead of time um you don't want to like set up hours ahead of time if you do maybe just grab the basics and leave them in their sterile packages or cover everything with the sterile cloth if you're going to leave it there okay i have my glasses let's set up our barriers you need air barrier tape sorry next we need to go back to the waiting okay tape on anything you're gonna be touching it can't easily be right down right if you're doing surgery and you're going to be turning off the light you can do the light switch but i'm not doing surgery so i'm going to do the computer mouse if you feel like you're going to be typing with dirty hands then you can always put tape over the keyboard too but we're not going to be typing with dirty hands i don't like to make that habit um i think that's everything for me there all right then you want to get out of the cabinet the patient bib all right sometimes i like to have it sitting like right here so that way when they come in i'm ready for them um and then your paper barriers so i'm going to be setting up over here i'm going to put paper barriers right here actually i'm going to use my i'm going to put my favorite barriers right here right [Music] it doesn't here like i need anything else from inside of there then we have our sterile stuff that we got from sterilization so i have my hand pieces in my burner block i'm going to put these over here this set is going to go right here i'm going to put on some gloves now so they're clean so it's okay for me to open up the drawers and go through them while they're clean now if i had dirty gloves you would not want to reach into these drawers with dirty gloves so you got to decide whether or not that's a habit you want to make all right i want to open up your burbeloc make sure that you set up your burst for your doctor do not leave your bird block looking like this it's unprofessional it's frustrating for your doctor so some of them might like their burst set in a certain order some of them like might like burrs replaced at certain times it really depends on the office that you're working at but make sure that you have it set up and looking nice like this for them hand pieces so high speed handpiece and this is the wrong one for this motor that's all right just goes on like that then we have our slow speed friction grip and our slow speed latch type we don't have the right kind of motor in this office usually it would be on this other tube we would put it on right there whichever one your doctor likes the most or likes to use first for this demonstration we're just gonna leave them right there for the dog all right some doctors will like their mirror and their explorer to be over here if your doctor likes their mirror and explore to be over here then you put that over there as well but some dogs like you to hand them their mirror and explore when we sit down so we're for this one going to set it up over here next we're going to open up our restorative cassette these blue packs are great because they work as a sterile barrier on your table they're nice and large just like this sometimes i would even take this and do this okay if it's sticking off like this it's a good idea to fold it so things don't go falling off all right this can go here this can go here now when it comes to your restorative cassette it is a really good idea in sterilization to set it up the way you want it to go every time that way if you're a couple minutes behind and you need to set up quickly you don't have to go messing with this stuff it's already where you need it to be but i'm going to take get your water tips put them on your side i'm going to put it on the doctor's side this one you push the ring in push it all the way in and then pull out make sure it's locked in there syringe articulating paper holder bite lock you will probably learn from the lead assistant at your practice how they like to set up it's a good idea to do it like they like to that way anybody can set up a room and then if you need to switch patients or somebody needs to fill in for you it's easy for somebody else to jump right in makes things really uniform it makes life a lot easier i'm going to take the hemostat and the scissors out all right and then if this isn't already done i really like to set things up in the order i'm going to need them so for composite i know i'm going to need both mirrors and the explorer okay so i can hand them to the dock um we're going to be looking at the schedule and seeing what kind of treatment we're doing so we're going to be doing an mod composite i know that that's on a posterior tooth where i'll do for number 14. so i'm going to pull out the condenser because i know the doc will need that i'm going to pull out the cotton pliers i know the dock will need that um let's say my doc also likes to use the acorn burnisher pull that one out uh let's see here i don't think i'll need the rest of these so i'm still going to keep them handy still going to keep them neat and nice but i'm just going to put them off to the side a little bit so that way i only have certain instruments to choose from okay so now that we have all of this stuff out here nice and neat we're going to start pulling out all of our composite instruments so are our composite materials so we have cotton rolls it's a good idea to pull out three or four put things neatly put things where you can see them put them where you know that you can grab them you don't want to be feeling around messing around um desensitizer articulating paper on the articulating paper holder i need to put that in there bond i like to put things that are small on this little ridge right here i feel like they're less likely to get lost we're doing an mod composite so i like to grab two wooden wedges that's what we're going to need because we've got a mesial and distal in there i actually like to grab a third one they're little they can get dropped kind of easily so it's always good to just have one extra you don't want to go grabbing like three or four extra but it doesn't hurt to have one all right matrix band so or a paladin system if your doctor's going to be using a paladin system all right etch we usually leave the dirty tips on here when we're done and wipe them off all right and put them back and then when we set up we throw this one in the trash and we put a new one on that's a mess okay etch micro brushes all right cheek protector the composite logic would tell you get out the composite but we have not taken a shade match yet so we don't actually know what shade of composite we need so we're not going to pull composite out yet all right we're going to actually leave that we're going to get some flowable you want to change the tip on that one bulk if you need it all right liner i like to have available close by within reach but i don't actually set it out unless the schedule indicates we're going to need it just make sure that it's easy to grab if you need one um dap and dish if you need it okay um my large strips if you're doing an anterior all right i got my flowable on there all the stuff you need for anesthetic so if we're doing tooth number 14 i know that we are going to need a short needle all right and my doctor likes one carpool of lidocaine for the uppers i need a composite gun right here uh i need my shade guide so we can take a good match i need floss set up neatly you see everything on here is set out nicely it's easy to see it's not jumbled up you need two by twos you want several of them and it's a good idea to actually pull them apart and kind of set them up so that way they don't all stick together all right i got everything from inside of there curing light all right i need my hve my saliva ejector i need these bad boys cotton tip applicators all right so these right here i'm going to put on okay make sure you have any paperwork that you need for the patient consent forms health history pulled up you want to be ready for them all right toss this all right so the last step that i want you guys to make a habit of doing is i want you to have a list all right your list that we talked about in class hung up laminated somewhere in your office lots of times it can go on the inside of the cabinet right here and i want you to take a quick look through your list and make sure that you didn't forget anything it is really really easy to forget your wooden wedges they're tiny they're you know almost impossible to see it's really easy to look at this especially when you're new and not realize that they're not there so look through your list that way you can say oh you know what i forgot wooden oranges okay that's going to help you a lot in the beginning eventually you won't need it but oh one last thing i almost forgot topical here we go okay scoop it out with clean cotton tip applicators we never want to put anything dirty in here because once the stick point wants to stay clean on your two by twos put this back where it's supposed to go we don't want that to get dirty either you should be set up and ready to go
