The beauty industry has a pattern of non-black individuals and brands taking credit for techniques and innovations originally developed by black women, such as the 'transition blush' technique popularized by makeup artist Painted by Esther, which sparked controversy when Patrick Ta launched a product without crediting her, highlighting the need for proper attribution and recognition of original creators in the beauty industry.

Patrick Ta Vs Painted By Esther The Beauty Industry Has A Black Woman Credit ProblemAdded:
At first, I created this product to really just give you that seamless blush application.
>> I spend a lot of my own money and I spend a lot of my own time and I spend so much effort doing something and honing something.
>> Hey beautiful people, how you doing today? It's your girl Destiny here and welcome to my channel. How have you all been? Hope you guys are doing great. So, there is a huge drama going on on the beauty side of Tik Tok and I'm going to break down the entire drama that is going on and heads up, there's going to be a lot of multiple parts to this drama. That's how crazy this drama is.
So apparently um the makeup artist and brand owner Patrick Ta, remember that Patrick Ta?
Mhm. Is on hot fire for stealing allegedly stealing from a black woman.
So apparently there's this makeup artist painted by Esther. Um, she's known for her amazing work and I felt personally I feel like she was the one that all every most people on the internet, not just me, feel like she was the one that popularized those blush like blush almost under the eye. That seems really really um good.
And she has been doing this for years, like a long time. But what really got it hit on like mainstream and on the internet was the Love Island Alandra.
She was the one doing it that just skyrocket it and know the entire Barbie concept of Alandra just really just corrected her technique of applying blush the way she does and which is unique. I'm not a blushy girl like that.
As you guys have se I look ridiculous and blush but this is an amazing technique that she has gone across teaching people showing online and all that. But what has gotten the entire internet talking is the fact that the makeup artist Patrick Ta that does not pay black artist that okay that's Patrick Ta remember I did a video about him a couple of months ago now created a product called blush transition. So, this is not blush. This is like a setting powder in a blush form. And people when people saw the product and how the product was launched, which we're going to get into, you're going to see it is people like, "Huh, this is Esther thing like why are you an agent man stealing from a black woman without giving her credit?" And we all know that this is a thing with the black community and black women and they always steal from the black community and take it and rebrand it as something. We saw what the F did with the edge control and all that. But this has also stems up a whole lot of more drama that Jackie know is being involved in. So apparently with all this calling out that has been going on uh which I'm going to show you a video um Patrick Jack showed how he uses this product which I need you to see and if you've ever see painted by Stella before you will know you you you know when you see it and then um Jackie Aina own thought about the product then Esther herself the makeup artist coming to address it because a lot of people were tagging her immediately the product got lost. and she decided to come to address it and she has so much to say which this is the first part of the video. So, let's go check out the video and then we'll come back and talk more.
>> This is transition blush. If you want to take your blush from looking great to taking your blush application to the next level where it's brightened, it's blurred and the transition is seamless.
Honestly, that looks so amazing. So, I'm using Shy at first. I created this product to really just give you that seamless blush application. So, let me show you the magic of transition blush.
So, I'm going to take both of these shades together. I'm just going to apply this right onto the under eye. The pigment load on these um blushes are very low, so you cannot really ever go wrong. I'm just going to blend this into the under eye. Sometimes I like taking the lighter shade right here and just pressing this right into the under eye. And I'm just going to finish off with a little bit of my cream over my powder. Taking this just right onto the high points of the cheekbones.
So, this is transition blush in shy at first.
>> See, Patrick T, what kind of irritates me about this launch is why didn't we get this in 2020? Where were you at when the founding forefathers of YouTube coined the phrase soft glam? If you were there, you were there. If you know, you know. And it wasn't until Makeup by Ariel went on Patrick Star's YouTube channel where he finally showed this technique. And ever since then, it is exactly how I've done my blush since then. You're probably thinking, "What the hell are you talking about?" The way people have applied blush over the last realistically like 6 years has drastically changed. Patrick does really emphasize the cheeks, the flushness of it all. So basically Patrick Ts said, "You rang in." In this latest launch are his liquid and powder transition blush duos 2019 and 2020. Jackie would have ate this up. No, excuse me. Would have chewed. I would have I'm yapping, but it matters to me. I'm the target demographic now. I don't know if we need to go this far. I don't know if we need to go this far, but you know what? I'm going to try it. This is This is between us, girl. Is it between us? Because it's looking very loud. The whole point is supposed to be discreet. A little bit of a jump scare. I don't know. Now, the purpose of doing a transition blush where the concealer and setting powder meet and the blush, there's something that we put right in between to make it seamless so that you don't really know where the blush starts and where the concealer ends. There's two shades. This is quite comfort. This is the shade between us. This is a bit more coral.
This is a bit more lilac. Probably a bit too lilac for me. Once things start getting purple, it gets dicey. I was hoping this would read a bit more pink.
I'm actually going to try white comfort.
I'm going to use what's on the back of my hand and apply that straight to my skin. So, it's supposed to serve the purpose again of like Oh, I definitely see it transitioning into my concealer very subtly. All right. So far, I see a very subtle but a bit of color nonetheless. I did the rest of my makeup because we're going to be transitioning it. And what blush am I wearing, you ask? Well, you already know what time it is. Of course, she's Giving by Patrick Todd. Because blush in this color palette, I feel is really what kind of popularized this trend. So, we have three of these colors. Between Us, all or nothing, quite confident. Since I'm wearing pink, I'm going to go ahead and try Between Us. Let's start. I'm going to try the darker shade first. Actually, let's do both. I'm going to tap off some of the excess. And this is meant to be applied basically right up under the tear trough.
Oh [ย __ย ] Hold on. Why did that kind of work immediately?
Now I want to put more. Now I want to put a little bit more. I'm I'm seeing something. Is it very subtle? Yes. I like this because I don't like how strong pink under eye setting powder looks. So I feel like I get sort of the same effect without sometimes a little bit of the overkill that that pink setting powder does on my complexion. My under my undertones are golden. So when I took a picture and I have one like cool tone setting powder, it's very prominent. This is with the transition blush and this is without. Now, am I just good at makeup or can you see the difference? I definitely am picking up what it's putting out. I fear we're going back to the basics with makeup again. Hot take. I don't really necessarily feel like every product needs to be a game changer. Listen to what I'm saying. Don't take it out of context. The fact that you can't really see what it's doing, I think is that's kind of the whole point. You know that this side looks more seamless than this side. Yes, you do. You just don't know how. And I fear that's the point. I fear I fear that's the point. That's the point. And the longer I wear it, the more I like it. I just keep looking at it. Is it the face or is it the blush?
Let me give you one last look. Before.
After. Let's do the other side now cuz this absolutely absolutely doing what I needed to do. I am the target demographic. Yep, I am. Do I think this is a product that is a need? Probably not. But is makeup a need?
Oops. Well, I mean, for me, personally, for me, if it makes my life easier and if I have the money to burn and if I'm like a real hardcore Lush Pro Max superstand, then 1,000%. If you already have your routine down, then no, you don't need it. But if you're trying to like perfect it or like build on top of your already extensive blush collection, if you're like a real hardcore blush lover like me, I think it'll make sense.
Now, real quick, let me cook because this shade is kind of calling my name because you guys know essentially that I do the same transition thing on my forehead, right? I blend my blush in like a C shape all the way into my bronzer. And the reason why I do that, especially usually I use like a terracotta color, terracotta or like sometimes I use straight bright orange like Nars Exhibit A. I basically create a transition between bronzer and concealer. So, I wonder if this shade will function in the same way. In a way, it sort of serves as like color correcting. I should say warm up the bronzer, not correct it. It's really subtle, but I see it.
I am pleased. Final verdict. These I think I'm kind of indifferent to. This serves slightly less purpose because you could just use another liqu. These, however, these perform more like a hybrid between a blush product and a setting powder in one. And I like these because you could just argue, well, Jackie use a lighter blush. Problem is most times they are chalky and ashy.
This is kind of like given that without the chalk and without the ash. This color does scare me, but I'm absolutely going to be digging in these this season. Absolutely. Hey guys, it's me PBE.
It's Esa. I'm honestly very nervous to make this video and please forgive how I sound. I'm actually very ill. Um I've been ill for like past few days. So, I've just been trying to recover.
But obviously, given everything that's been spoken about, I was like, "You know what? I might finally say something."
Cuz what I don't like is I don't like being scared to say things because you know how easy it is for them to angry black women.
Us. Like I'm I'm actually getting tired of constantly being um spoken for and being scared to speak because I am a black woman. And it's not even about being a victim. It's about this is just how it is. The second you say something, it's it it you you you instantly look disgruntled and angry and all the things. I'm not angry. My life is amazing. God is good. I have a great life. I have great clients.
I have great family. I have great friends around me. You know, I'm very happy and fulfilled and it's taking me a long time to get here. I'm actually trying not to cry and and like probably because I'm also sick that it's hard for me to get my words out. But what this whole thing is is is particularly strange to me because I spend a lot of my own money and I spend a lot of my own time and I spend so much effort doing something and honing something.
Nobody can say I've I've actually never one time said I started anything. You cannot find me a singular tweet proof anything that I have ever said I started this. That's silly. I'm an artist and I come I come from the the my my goal is to constantly reference artists like Kevin Acoan and and Danessa and Pat and how they move with grace and or and how they move with with intention and intentionality. So when I when I do things, I constantly I'm I'm aware of what I'm doing and I'm aware of where I want to take it. And what I don't like is when people try and rush you to do things. You're silly because you didn't patent it. You're silly because you should have said it was your No. Cuz I also I'm not given that grace to fully take ownership for anything because it instantly is met with, well, you didn't start it or you didn't create it. How dare you? So, I've just never even claimed that. Right.
So, that's that's that aside. The second part of it is I have had really weird experiences with Patrick. This is not all my friends know. They can attest for me cuz I I speak about this to them. The weirdest one recently, cuz I can I want to I want to say there's been about two or three. The weirdest one recently was I was in LA.
I get a um I get an a a a booking request from the other half of Patrick Tar. So it's not just him. There's another half of him which is Reian Remy.
I don't want to mispronounce her name. I genuinely don't know how to pronounce it. So she's asked to book me. She's messaged me. She's texted me.
I've um she's got my number through a hair stylist I just recently done a collab look with. So I've accepted the request. I don't normally accept requests directly to me. My agent handles that.
She has asked to book me for a do and go. A do and go means you do it and you leave. There's no in between, right? You don't It's not a onetoone lesson. It's not a It's not a teaching lesson. It's none of that. It's you do it and you leave. She has booked me. And then on the day of the booking, I get a text from my agent. Oh, so and so um her name wants to record you doing the glam.
To which I said, "No, that doesn't sit right with me. That's not what you're you're you're booking me for. That's not what the the nature of the job is, you know?" So, I cancelled that booking cuz I found that very strange. Like, why would you want to record me doing my work? No one no one does that. You can see the kind of people I work with. None of them none of them have ever asked to do that cuz it's just not a thing you do. If you want to learn, if you want me to teach you, then that's a different service. So that is conniving. And there's been a lot of conniving. There's a lot of conniving things that happen in the industry, but you don't I I will never speak about it cuz honestly speaking, I don't care. I am an artist.
My driving force is to create and share it. And the end my end goal is to teach is to is to spread my my knowledge. I cannot leave this earth. That is a disservice to God.
I cannot leave this earth harboring my knowledge. My goal is to spread it. I'm not a gatekeeper. I have things. I have timelines for things. I'm getting also sick of that narrative that you you gatekeeper. No, actually I have intentions to teach and to spread the knowledge.
I am within my rights to decide when I do that. Yeah. You don't get somewhere to do that. I do the work. I spend my own money. I spend thousands of my own money constantly buying new products, testing new products, experimenting. A lot of the time when I post as of late is because I bought all these all these fancy new things that I want to try and and and that's my own pocket. Nobody's giving me that for free, you know? So, that's what hurts me is when people come on here, they don't know me. They don't they don't know my work. They don't know how hard I've tried for this. It's already hard being black, being a woman in this industry. You have to generally fight twice as hard to get just just just half of what you deserve. Okay? I'm naturally not a boastful person. You cannot find me genuinely. I will give somebody I will give if you can find me where I I have said I'm the inventor. I'm the creator and all these things. Please present the proof. And what I will lastly say, I'm I'm genuinely grateful for people that see me. I'm grateful for the videos and the people that are defending me that I've been crying all day. I'm sick and I'm crying. It's not fair. I'm I'm I'm trying to actually heal my body. I don't need all this stress. Okay. What I will lastly say is it's the timing of things is very convenient.
I posted a tutorial with Kosas and in that tutorial I I said the holy grail, the the secret ingredient is using a powder puff.
He's also done the same thing conveniently after. I don't care about the timings. I don't I don't I don't care. My thing is if that was really your the crux of your technique, you would have made a powder puff. You make brushes. It's not hard to make a powder puff. You know, it's very easy.
Actually, it's the easiest thing to make. If that was really a part of your thing, a part of your a key ingredient in how you do something, you would have he would have been marketed it. Let's be for real, you know, it's not. So, I'm just I'm getting tired of the constant chitter chatter. It's annoying. It's very annoying. And it's learning from people that don't work as hard as me.
Don't don't don't don't suffer as much as I do in this to constantly have this chat. It's jarring. It's actually annoying. Please keep me out your mouths. Stop talking about me. Please.
I'm so frustrated. I'm so I'm so beyond over it. But God bless every single person that sees it for what it is. God bless every single person that sees me for what I am, that sees my work for what it is. Again, I will reiterate, listen, I did not start anything. I am 29 years old. That would be ludicrous of me to claim ownership for anything. But what I did do and what you will not belittle is my influence. Babe, Google me. actually Google all the all the the the publications that know how to credit me and they know how to credit the artist that they see is is researching something. Google me. That's all. That's that's it. But thank you to everyone.
This is the first and last time I will ever address anything.
Naturally, I'm not a talker anyway. I like to be quiet. I like to be in my in my brain. So, this is dragging me out my comfort zone. But, I have to say something. It's it's really it really weighs on you when people that don't know you, that don't work as hard as you, that don't know what it takes to do this job, they don't know the the the happen in this industry, just chat. You don't know anything. You haven't achieved anything. Stop talking about me. I work so hard. I try so hard. I have come from nothing. I have come from foster care to be in this space and to constantly have people just talk about me and it's it's so annoying. Just let this be the last.
Thank you. This is a one take video cuz I genuinely just wanted to get it all out there and dead.

Love to know what you think and there's going to be a part two of people reacting to it. So I'm not I'm going to hold a lot of my thoughts to that and change. But the truth is that um when it comes to makeup, when it comes to beauty, I even say fashion and even anything, there's nothing on new under the sun. Everybody is renovating things and innovating things here and there.
And um but when it also come to this industry, I just feel like people see something, they pick it and they take it. Especially when it's coming from a black woman, a black creator, people just take it. Especially non-black um people that have more influence and money or product or platform, they just go they take it and then they we saw what F did with the edge control and all that. So this is a normal reoccurrence about that happened over the time. So for this to be um spain to the essence of oh he copied a black woman and then some people are like oh you did not invent all that and all that rightfully so she might not have inved it but probably she was the one that brought it to light that this creator um that Tat saw and then decided to go on and use it and like she really made a valid point talking about how if that was his thing then a puff he would have used a puff and Um I do get it because if that's really your thing that that will be the first one of the first product like you use you or you will launch out for people especially when you create and make products. So yeah, um I feel like with the age that we live in now, black women should continue speaking up. We should not keep quiet because I feel like that's going to really minim minimize a lot of these big brands, big people, big companies, big establishments just taking from black radio, especially black women without crediting them. I feel like it's going to kind of reduce this because they know that we're not going to keep quiet. We're not just going to let it slide. We're just going to do it. But for me personally, when it comes to beauty, there's nothing new under the sun. Just really find what works for you. Like Jackie in like really applying the blush, it looks good on her. I personally I don't apply my blush like that. I I don't wear my makeup like that. You guys have seen how I wear my makeup. I like my makeup to look really close to my skin. And some people like the old bold eyeshadow, bold blush. It is what it is. That's their thing. But for me, I don't. You let me know if you are the type that really likes really bold makeup. I can do it here and there once in a while, but I've come to find my style that works for me that it's a really natural nude makeup.
And um and as black women, I feel like we should not allow anybody to um steal our shine. I don't know if Jackie I know I've caught up with what's going on because this video she did with Tad, Patrick Tad, is the up there. Um I don't know. I would love to really see how respond to this old drama, which I'll keep my eye on out on it if she ever responded to it. But yeah, uh she might not be the one invented, but the Matt is not Martin and especially those of them that are in LA. I just feel like LA is dog eat dog type of industry going on in that place.
Honestly, at this point, that that city should be Sodom and Gamora. But yeah, you guys let me know what you think about this story down in the comment section. As always, keep it respectful.
