Mhm.
Sounds dangerous.
What do you guys think?
Let me know in the comments.
See you.
>> [bell] >> Hey guys, welcome to Get Swamped. Let's get some stuff done here. All right.
Check this out.
We got Kevin, Greg, we got Kyler here. We've got Lucy caught up.
So, it's a day to dig eggs.
I had Z in there digging because I was digging and my ribs are killing me.
He did find one egg so far. So, I'm going to get in there take over digging cuz you got to do it really carefully so you're not turning the egg.
And just as I thought, she laid and it was probably but she still looks so big and that doesn't mean anything because they don't lose the weight right away. She's still bell-shaped but she laid the clutch. We'll see how many are in there.
We're going to go dig this nest and then we'll release her. We've got Scooter down there keeping uh Ricky in the water.
So, where was it the over there on that side?
>> Yeah, about the top.
>> Yep, there they are.
I see the one egg.
See what I can do here.
Get this cleared.
Oh, beautiful big eggs and already starting to band. So, that's I was right.
We cannot turn these eggs >> because they already set.
Right?
>> Right and we don't want them to drown.
Now, it's a matter of just being really careful in uncovering this nest.
She does have rocks in here because she'll For some re- Oh, there they are.
Cubans love to use rocks in their nest.
They do it in Cuba and they obviously do it here.
You know, one year Savannah and I pulled as many rocks as we could out of here, but she still found rocks and brought them back over here.
Oh, these are beautiful fertile eggs.
Oh my god.
This looks like a big nest, Z.
>> I know.
>> And she looks big still, so Oh my god.
This is awesome.
This is so cool.
Oh god.
>> What's your guess?
>> Every single one has been banded, Z.
>> What's your guess?
>> I'm not even going to guess yet.
I'm not even going to do it.
Go check on those guys and see how Lucy looks.
>> Yep.
>> I'll pull out a couple more here.
>> Okay, ba ba ba ba.
Ooh.
Up. Hold on. Do do do do do.
>> You're dirty.
>> Yeah, I had to dig.
Okay. Yeah, there.
Yeah, there she is. Still big.
Anyway, what's your guys's guess?
>> I say 60.
>> Okay, 66. Okay, what about you guys?
Guess.
What's What's your guess?
>> I don't know. 62.
>> Okay.
What's yours? [snorts] >> 48.
>> Yep.
>> So far you're So far you're the most reasonable guess.
>> Just for that, I'll go one under you, 47.
>> Ooh.
Hey, you see him?
>> Yeah.
>> Where are you at?
>> He's literally posted off this 5-ft out from this little creek going straight that way.
Literally standing off of me.
>> I think I see him, but it's hard to see.
>> to see a shadow, but if you look right through here, you can catch a glimpse of him.
>> Okay, yeah, I see him, but I >> He's literally facing right at us.
>> Yeah, the camera can't see him, bud, so unfortunate.
>> Matter of fact, you see the dead leaf, that dark leaf? His head's just behind that.
>> Okay, like right around there, yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Crazy.
This is a big nest, Z.
>> Oh, yeah?
>> Yeah.
It's a big nest.
>> Yeah.
I can imagine.
>> Oh my god, this is so cool.
It is so hot out here.
>> I know, but I'm already sweating buckets.
Oh my god.
There's a lot of eggs.
>> I don't I mean >> There's a lot.
>> Yeah.
>> I'm not going to say how many. We're going to let people guess and we'll announce it in like a week or two.
>> I'm going I'm going to say Uh >> I will say there's a lot.
>> Okay.
I'm going to say I don't know.
Under 100, there we go.
>> [laughter] >> That's safe to say, Z.
Oh my god.
This is crazy.
Ooh.
I got to be really careful >> with these ones.
>> with these eggs so I don't turn them >> Right.
>> and the babies drowned in the embryo.
Because once the embryo attaches >> Very different from uh chicken eggs.
>> in the same position.
>> Very different from bird eggs.
>> eggs have to be turned all the time.
>> Okay.
>> And reptile eggs cannot be turned.
>> I was about to say, why is that?
>> Because the embryo's attached.
Holy smokes, there's still a bunch of eggs.
>> Oh god.
Do we need a second bucket?
>> I don't know yet, buddy.
I don't know.
This is crazy.
I'm already on my third layer.
>> Oh god.
So kind of like a straw on the surface where it kind of breathes through a straw kind of thing?
>> Uh basically embryo attaches and if it turns, the embryo's going to get detached and drowned.
So however the egg sits like that >> Mhm.
>> See that dirt?
>> Yeah. the top.
>> Okay.
>> It's got to stay I got to keep my fingers the same way when I'm putting them in here.
>> Okay.
>> And you guys have seen we've had great success hatching these.
And >> so far.
>> Yeah, knock on wood.
>> Uh Uh yeah.
>> That's wood.
>> Uh Here we go.
Make sure I don't get any rocks in here.
Let's see.
>> Yeah.
>> Ba ba ba ba.
All right.
>> Yeah.
Let's do a quick check.
>> You going to check on her again?
>> Yeah, might as well.
There we go.
>> Like what he's got out there.
>> Yeah.
>> Like that.
>> Yeah, the gator is out.
>> He was out in They're out of the >> And she She's getting angry.
>> I thought we had gotten them all.
lady comes up to the fence and she's like, "Why are you guys >> It's still in the same spot.
>> Same spot?
Yeah, he's slowly trying to do the sneak up.
>> Yep.
>> Yeah, I see it.
>> popped his head up, I turn around and I'm like, "I see you still."
>> Yeah, I see his like his little tail right there. Yeah.
>> The shiny part, that's his back right leg.
>> Yeah, about there. Yeah.
Here we go.
All right.
Oh.
Uh got it.
>> Ow.
Here we go.
Ugh.
There we go.
All grass.
I can travel through grass.
Everyone's doing good.
All right.
>> Oh my god, it's hot.
>> Yeah, it is.
>> Oh my.
It is so hot.
>> Yeah.
Yeah, it's too hot. Too hot. Too hot.
>> [clears throat] >> It's about to hit. Have you hit the last layer of stone yet?
No.
>> These are some huge eggs.
They're big.
>> Bigger than usual?
>> of them.
>> Bigger than usual?
>> They're bigger than last year's.
>> Oh, wow.
>> They're bigger eggs.
And I haven't found one cracked one yet.
But I'm knocking on wood.
>> There you go.
I did it for you. The wood knocked on you.
>> All right, I'm going to keep digging.
>> All right.
>> And you just checked on them.
>> Yeah, I just did.
>> All right.
>> Here we go.
>> Look at the size of that egg.
Every single one of them have looked banded so far.
So, this natural diet we've got them on, Z, it seems to be working >> Although >> really well.
>> The I sees it, I eats it diet.
>> Yep.
>> Oh my god, that's so many eggs.
>> That's what I was going to say.
>> On the final layer or new bucket time?
>> I don't know yet. I got to check.
>> I'm just asking. I'm on the final layer.
It's got to be hoping.
>> Because another bucket would be crazy.
Well, actually no. We're not hoping.
We're hoping for another bucket.
It's so amazing.
Ow. Ant. Ant.
Ant bit me.
>> You got bit by fire ant?
>> Yeah. Fire ant is biting me.
How dare they should know what it we're doing.
Oh god.
All the banned lids.
Okay.
>> Hey Z, come over here so you can show this.
We'll show come over >> Like in here?
>> Okay.
You guys see this cavern?
>> Yeah.
>> Now the eggs have been stacked and laid pointing different directions and that helps with determination of the sex of males and females. Because parts of the nest deeper will obviously be cooler and higher up will be warmer. So you're going to get males and females. That's the way nature works so they can get both sexes.
And that is what is called an egg chamber.
>> Okay.
>> All right. That's what you see them dig and then she starts depositing. She goes into a trance and so starts depositing the eggs.
Um >> Yeah.
>> Let's see.
All right, Zeb.
>> Yeah.
>> I got all of them.
>> Okay.
>> I am Yeah.
>> Positive? All right, do you want me to do a quick uh scratch test?
>> I just did, but you can.
>> Okay. Yeah.
>> Go ahead. Let me out of here first because of my rib.
This is so sketchy doing this.
>> It's not the first time that she did the double chamber thing.
Right?
>> Uh she never does.
>> Okay.
>> I've had other crocs do it, but she doesn't. She does a single chamber.
Just see. Poke your fingers down in around all the edges of the chambers.
And see if you feel any other eggs. It feels like porcelain.
And you can put another layer of dirt on top of that hay.
>> Okay.
>> Zeb, with no rocks.
>> So, what I'm digging up basically.
>> Yeah.
This is insane.
Beautiful, beautiful.
>> That's it.
>> Beautiful nest.
I got to get in the shade.
>> Yeah, go ahead.
>> Woo.
There's a whole buttload of eggs in there.
A croc full of eggs.
>> Considering that it's the whole bucket in this one. Let's go around, yeah.
>> That's a nice, nice clutch.
Oh my goodness.
All right, let's see.
Let me go see what these guys are doing.
You keep checking, Z.
All right.
>> How many?
>> I'll tell you this, there's a buttload.
>> Nice.
>> I didn't count, but that's the biggest clutch we've I think we have ever had.
>> Excellent.
>> The >> My buttload.
>> Uh probably Scooter's buttload. His butt is bigger than yours.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh >> You going to take them off now?
>> No!
>> [laughter] >> You ain't got the mower in here yet?
>> Oh my goodness.
>> We're going to have a Mexican standoff with this guy over here.
>> Is he still right there?
>> Oh, yeah. Right here. You can see the sign.
He's sitting about 4 ft away from the shoreline.
>> I see the blondish >> Yep, that blond is his head.
>> piece over there.
>> been staring at me the whole time.
>> Yeah.
They've got a nice cave right there.
>> Yep. I'll say that.
>> I see his snout right there through >> That's what I'm saying, he's been pointed right at me.
>> right right there that blond spot in the water.
>> He'll make a jacuzzi for you before he comes out.
>> These are cool.
All right, good job, Lucy.
Good job.
Uh pack some hay in the hole and let's get all that hay pulled up on top.
>> Okay.
>> Get it all and pulling this dirt from the side there, let's fill that up.
>> Yeah, I'll do >> First, bring that bucket out here, Z.
>> Uh okay.
Yeah.
>> I know.
I know, buddy.
It's hot. Put it right here in the shade.
The shady spot.
>> I'm trying not to I know you are.
Hi.
Let's pack all this hay back up in there. You got to pack the dirt. You see from where your knees are. Push all that forward.
We'll bring all this hay up.
Last year she was right over here.
This year right there. She's always on this side.
Throwing rocks out. Yeah, that's useless.
I don't know where the hell she finds them.
>> I I don't know either, but still I tried to get like the bigger ones at least out.
>> We had no cracked eggs this year.
>> I know.
Wait, real Okay, I Oh god. I am tired.
Or not tired, overheated.
>> I'm like, how can you be tired?
>> I meant overheated.
Well, case in point, overheated.
>> Oh man.
>> Better?
Good?
>> Yeah.
Here, push this up.
See that hay down there by the base of that tree?
Try to push it up some.
She's going to fix this all up, so she's going to still smell the eggs in there.
And she's going to keep peeing on it to keep the moisture in there.
All right, let's get this pile pushed up, Z.
And then she'll fix everything.
You can pull that big huge rock out. I don't know where she found that thing.
Three of them.
Look at all those other ones she found.
It's hot.
Hot.
Z, grab this bucket.
Be very, very careful. No jumping around.
Walk steadily and with a purpose.
Go behind Kevin.
You're going to sit on them?
>> Get them all?
>> You ate scrambling an endangered species uh egg.
>> Imagine how good it would taste.
>> It's bad enough you eat emus.
>> [laughter] >> I'm going to give you high something that's high in protein.
Oh my goodness.
All right, Greg.
Can we pull her down to that shady area so I can mow this area quick?
Well, we've got them caught up.
All right, they're going to pull her down.
Let me get the mower quick. I just want to mow this area and that area very quickly.
Z, you're going to have to go in there get that other bamboo.
Oh.
The one that's laying in the grass down there so I can mow.
Morgan, if you want to take this and film.
Best way to do it. See how we're at 4 minutes now. Let it run to 6 minutes, stop, and then restart. Boom.
And you can mow you can get shots of video of them holding, video of Z. The bamboo's down to the left by them.
Oh, there's one.
>> You want me to go down there?
>> Yeah, you can.
Scott, Scott.
Him in the water. And then there's another big one right here.
>> Oh, well.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah, all the time.
>> Yeah.
>> Well, I went over the last one and just snatched him up by the back of his neck.
He's like, "How'd you do that?"
>> Yeah.
Yeah.
>> Don't jam on the right side of that.
>> Of what?
>> Of what?
This one you'll [ __ ] out cuz it wants to stick out and then you grab.
>> Something like that.
I don't know what he wants me respond.
>> There's nothing really like >> Where was Where is the nest at exactly?
All that, hey?
>> The eggs were in the backyard.
>> They just put the hay out there and she buries them in there.
>> They used to not do that.
>> They're telling me she'll short them.
It's cool looking.
Do you have your camera on, too?
>> Not anymore.
Actually, there've been a couple of times where it's been on, but then we just get all of our conversations on film and stuff.
>> Yeah, I also noticed you didn't have your knee brace on.
Does he have um drainage and stuff down in the water?
Like pumps and stuff?
Well, I didn't know. This looks natural, so I didn't know.
>> I don't know.
Like all my things are sitting Big lake.
They like to eat people over on the Georgia.
>> That's one thing I want to be more of.
Swim with the dolphins.
Like up close, up close.
>> Mhm.
>> Yeah.
>> Like the interaction and all that.
>> Yeah.
>> I I'm at a I'm at a disadvantage. I stopped diving because whatever uh a couple years ago.
I grew up scuba diving.
I take a regulator and put it in a snorkel, put it in my mouth.
>> Get Robbie.
>> Jake love on him.
>> I got certified in '01.
>> Yeah.
>> My my My dad was the captain. He was like, "I'm not going to let you dive off my boat unless you get certified." I'm like, "So I went to the marine and jumped off the 6-ft of water, went down like 10 ft, didn't get to see a shark, and walked all the way back to the boat."
>> Don't let it kill me.
>> Uh can you lower the your stick a little bit more?
>> I think you're a smart >> Yeah.
>> He knows the game.
>> Yes, he does.
>> How was she this time around grabbing her?
>> Same as always.
>> Same as always.
>> He doesn't like you.
>> Sorry guys, if after mowing the grass it makes you hot, I had to go get a cold Guinness.
>> You didn't bring none for us?
>> You guys can get one after I mow the grass. It was hot, dude.
It was hot out here.
On a mower? You got the you know, the motor's behind you and it gets hot and then the sun's beating on you, it gets hot.
So, you got to get a cold Guinness.
All right.
Greg?
>> Sir.
>> This is going to be coming off easier.
>> What's that?
>> Just trying to see who's winning.
>> [laughter] >> Easy, killer.
>> She saw you.
She wanted that sausage.
>> She's bent my [ __ ] gun too.
>> [laughter] >> Now I got to get a new holster that fits in here.
>> Oh.
>> Mine's on over yours.
>> Yeah, it is.
>> So, Kevin, let's do it like we always do.
Let's pull the tube completely off.
And let's get They're going to have to hold her.
Pull your tube completely off.
Now, you want to get where Tyler's at and help him hold. And then Greg comes around and then looses this one.
>> Yep.
>> And we just take it all the way through like we did last time, Greg.
You want me to hold your camera?
>> I'm good.
>> All right. Just make sure you guys are on that.
>> She ain't getting anywhere. Don't worry.
>> Pull her hard. Pull hard now so Greg can get in and undo that.
>> Nice, Greg. Nice.
>> You might be able to get it right off.
>> He can.
>> Oh, you're on the tooth. Wait.
>> Here, I got it.
>> All right.
Pull that pipe off that one, but keep the >> Keep tension on the rope.
Got the rope, Greg.
>> All right. You're going to have to do this quick, Greg.
What you're going to do is come in from behind.
Grab that hoof. They're going to give you give her slack. She wants to go back to defend the net. Let's get that hoop as big as we can so she can pop straight through it.
You know what I mean?
So, we don't take it out in front, we're taking letting her whole body go through it. I would don't don't let her see you.
Come here. Come from this side and pull the hoop.
There you go.
There you go. Kevin's got a pole ready for you. Z, he's got a pole ready for you, too.
>> Just stay right there, Z.
>> Don't move it, Z.
>> Okay, Z, you got a pole.
You got to get that hoop through. Z, can you shove it back through?
>> Can't see you, Richard.
>> Go.
Dang it.
We were off. We were off.
They're off.
Good job. Good job, guys.
Now, she's she's being in full guard mode now.
Let me check this.
Hold on.
Um He's right there.
>> Yep.
>> That's perfect.
All right.
So, you guys Oh, he just sank. He was just up.
>> to see him.
He was just up. You can barely see the blonde on him.
Without the glasses.
>> All right. Let's see.
Let's see.
She is in full-blown protective mode.
That is one proud mama. She's walking over there, Z. She's Look at that belly.
It's still huge.
Our animals are fat, man. They are healthy.
And they look great. So, it's a beautiful thing, man. Beautiful thing. All right.
Z, you out?
Scooter, let's get out. Kyler's got the rope. We got everything picked up.
>> Everybody else is out?
>> Everyone's out. Come on, Scooter.
This is a beautiful pen.
I love this enclosure.
And they got a deep end of the water down there.
They got the shallow end down here.
And it's total swamp-like.
You guys can hear the water running, see it right right there.
There's actually two pipes running into this one, one down there and one over here.
That one down there, that pond, it could it's got spots where it's about 12 ft deep. So, they got a nice deep area and this is all shallow. It's about calf deep to waist deep through here.
All through that area of the swamp.
Which uh Cuban crocodiles love.
And then you got this nice incline here.
Even during hurricanes, it doesn't come up this high.
If it did, you'd be about 18, 19 ft down there deep.
But uh I got it all mowed.
So, they got a nice area here.
Short ga- grass, but they love the long grass cuz they are ambush hunters.
And I've taught you guys this before, but Cuban crocodiles are the most terrestrial crocodile on the face of the planet.
And they love to ambush stuff. So, they love this high grass and when we throw road kill in here, raccoons, possums, otters, rabbits, um >> Even parts of deer.
>> Yeah, parts of deer. They feel like they're ambushing it when they come charging through that tall grass.
So, it did you know whatever works works for them. And that's the way they were meant to exist and that's the way they do exist. We'll mow this pen three times a year and that's it.
And let it grow and be natural.
And we cut all the trees down on We don't let them come past this area just because we want a big open areas to work with them.
All right, this is awesome.
This is awesome. Let's get out of here.
Another day.
Wow. All right, guys.
What a day. It is so hot out there.
It's really Our real feel is over 100° again today.
And trust me, it is a real feel.
I'm soaking wet.
I've got all the eggs in here.
I'm not going to tell you guys how many we have in there yet.
But what I'm going to do is get all the egg trays ready.
And then tomorrow, I'm going to be setting up the egg trays and put them into the incubator. This room's nice and hot, so it's keeping it about the same as the nest would.
A lot of work and a lot of work. Thank Thank God we had Kevin, we had Kevin's wife, Greg, we had Scooter, we had Ollie, Z, myself, and Kyler.
And Kyler was so excited to get to work with the Cubans.
And it's a really really neat thing and I appreciate all the help. It takes a lot of help to do this.
Especially those big crocs, the Cubans.
They're absolutely insane.
Thank God nothing bad happened. We got them out there. Got the croc caught up, got the eggs out, found the eggs, got them out.
And Z found the eggs.
And then I dug them.
We built the nest back up.
Mowed the pen.
Scooter and Kyler kept Ricky in the water.
And boy, he was watching everything we were doing from the water.
They were keeping him right there.
And thank God.
Cuz it would not have been pretty him trying to attack us.
But everything was successful. So, what more could you ask for?
Now, it's going to be like 90 days before these hatch.
>> About, yeah.
>> Between 80 and 90 days.
>> Mhm.
>> You know, so it's just a waiting game.
And then we've already got the tub ready for this year's Cuban, so it'll be perfect.
Thank you guys for joining us on our adventure, shall we say?
>> It's quite fun, right?
>> You could say fun.
>> I if this wasn't an adventure, I don't know what it was.
>> Did you have fun, though?
>> I was terrified, so does that count?
>> That counts as fun.
>> Okay.
>> All right.
It's all fun. You got to get the adrenaline pumping.
My adrenaline dump is done now. My rib is killing me.
>> My legs hurt.
>> [laughter] >> Oh my goodness.
And I hope you guys had fun. You guys were sitting at home watching this from the comfort of your air conditioner.
We got to find a maybe a space suit that's bite-proof with a personal AC in it.
>> That would be so hot around you.
>> Oh, who knows?
But thank you. Make sure you hit that thumbs-up, like, comment, subscribe, and also share it with your friends.
You know, who knows what adventures are going to be coming up shortly on the farm. We are going to go back to doing videos.
So, we're going to have a lot of fun with you guys and teach you some stuff here and there.
Who knows? You might learn something.
Love y'all. Get swamped. Share your passion. Random acts of kindness, it makes the world a much better place.
