The video sharply exposes the disconnect between shareholder greed for immediate margins and the long-term health of a gaming ecosystem. It is a sobering look at how financial pressure risks alienating the very audience that built Nintendo’s success.

The Real Reason Nintendo Investors Want a Switch 2 Price HikeAdded:
All right, everyone. We have a bunch of stories to get to today. Although the heavy focus of today's video is really on investors. Investors are apparently reportedly not happy with Nintendo at the moment and supposedly demanding that Nintendo well increases the price of the Nintendo Switch 2. And this is happening during a very important week because we do have an investors meeting happening Friday early morning or well Thursday night in Japan. Uh we do have a very very interesting uh investors meeting because that investors meeting is going to be the full fiscal year. Uh so we're going to see everything and obviously their projections for the next fiscal year. And if investors are truly demanding that this system increases in price, they're going to demand it to them in person at this investors meeting. So, I do find this to be a really interesting thing to discuss and talk about. Uh, as well, Nintendo's stock is just been taking hits and hits and hits. And I have some thoughts on some of those hits and some of the overreactions I think is happening. But again, the financials results will be the big teller here. Um, so before we dive in, uh, I just want to remind you that we are giving away a Nintendo Switch, too. You can enter the link down in the pin comment or the description.
We're also on our road to 163,000 subscribers. Oh my gosh, guys. Uh, we just keep creeping a little bit closer every day. Thank you guys so much for being here. I do appreciate it. Let's dive into this very first story, which is also on its own kind of a big deal.
Nintendo is releasing a new bundle.
That's right. A brand new Switch 2 bundle that's not the Mario Kart World Edition is coming out. And what bundle is that? Well, we're talking about Pootopia.
They also technically did a temporary bundle for Legend ZA last year as well.
Anyways, you're seeing here this announced by Nintendo Australia saying, "Build your charming utopia with this Nintendo Switch 2 plus Pokemonia bundle available on June 5th." Keep an eye out for this bundle in the My Nintendo store at select retailers in Australia and New Zealand. Now, it's important to know this has not been announced for the US or Japan or any other territory. Of course, the fact that this bundle exists at all that does bring up the idea that this could end up coming to other territories and it's just unannounced at this point. But either way, obviously, Pootopia has proven to be a system seller. And I think in an ideal world, this bundle would have been ready on launch day if Nintendo realized just how big Pocoia is going to become. But still, guys, I'm really happy to see more bundles. This doesn't look to be a themed system or anything. It's just the box. Uh I assume it comes with the game based on that initial announcement from Nintendo. Uh next up, we have a bit of news about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth coming to Switch 2. uh because the director of the game uh understands something about Final Fantasy 7 coming to Nintendo that really only those of us that grew up back then and and experienced playing Final Fantasy 1 through 6 and then having seven just ripped from Nintendo platforms to go over to a Sony platform. It was a very heart-wrenching moment uh as a child realizing that I wasn't going to get to play my next Final Fantasy on the system I already owned. Well, he talks about this because he understands that there is an importance to doing a good job bringing over this legendary remake, remaster, reimagining, whatever you want to call it, of Final Fantasy 7. So, we're going to go down here to what the quotes are from the director of the game. And he says, "I feel that the release of Rebirth is of great importance in allowing Switch 2 players to catch up with the latest installment in the series since we've been able to release remake and Rebirth on Switch 2 at a good pace." interest has been high and pre-orders are going extremely well. Above all, I'm genuinely happy that we've been able to bring this series to Nintendo fans in the way it deserves. To everyone in the Nintendo community, thank you for waiting so patiently for so long. I believe Final Fantasy 7 is remembered by many as the title that symbolized the franchise's departure from Nintendo hardware. That is precisely why as creators bringing remake and rebirth to the Nintendo Switch 2 carries a very special emotional weight for us. This project is not only for longtime fans who have followed Final Fantasy 7 for years, but also serves as a gateway for those experiencing this world for the first time. Final Fantasy 7 is returning to a place it once left behind through this remake project. Now, with the technology and experience of our time, we would be delighted if you could experience the moment on Nintendo Switch 2. Obviously, a bit of an emotional play there for marketing purposes, but also an emotional play. That's true. It was a very emotional moment for many of us to not have Final Fantasy 7 on a Nintendo platform after the entire series had always been back then. Uh, and it is a little bit of an emotional thing, uh, just having even remake integrate already on the system. Obviously, we have Final Fantasy 7, the original, available on Switch One and Switch 2.
This has been a thing for a while, but it's just this has always been that game that's been identified as a Sony project, and now we all get to partake, and that is magical and amazing. You know what's also magical, amazing? How about a brand new mini sort of commercial trailer, whatever you want to call it, for Yoshi and the mysterious book. So, we come in here and just watch this. It's a very short clip. It's just showing him messing with the various uh you know uh NPCs and stuff that he can interact with in the game and do his special abilities with here. Like you're seeing here, the one kind of floating through the space. Uh you're going to see another one here. He captures the shy guy kind of chasing him down.
showing another one here with what looks like um little bird like eggs things. I don't really know. We can see him obviously flying on top of the bird here as well. Again, the game just showing off more and more of its abilities. This was from a tweet from Nintendo of Europe saying, "Do any of these creatures from Yoshi and the Mysterious Book look familiar to you?" And that's a good question. I'll throw it to you guys. Do any of those creatures look familiar to you? Do you know their names? Do you know what games they originated from?
Share it down below. Uh we still have a bit more to get into before we get to our main story, including the fact that hey uh a lot of people have been very disappointed that 007 First Light is not day and date on Nintendo Switch 2 because again this game was showed off in April's Direct last year. So it really does feel like a slap to the face to some consumers that hey, we're going to have to wait an extra three, possibly four months. But uh some people even worrying that hey, maybe this is just going to be like normal. We saw Borderlands 4 get delayed and now that game may never come out. Well, uh, they are trying to reassure everyone that that's not the case here. They actually do care about the game. And the reason it's not day and date is because they care. So, let's go in here. I will do everything I can. IO Interactive boss promises 007 First Light won't pull a Borderlands 4. So, yeah. Uh, according to a new interview with IO Interactive CEO, Hakan Abrock, those looking forward to 007 First Light need not concern themselves with a notion that it may meet the same fate as obviously we're talking about Borderlands 4. Uh, speaking with Christopher Ding from the game business, a rock promised First Light will launch on Switch 2. So, here are the quotes here. It's running on Switch 2. We just want to make sure it's as good as it can be. I don't want to hear it wasn't a good version. To be completely honest, we need a bit more time to get it where we want it to be.
We said summer. It's probably going to be late summer, but we're going to get it out. Bond has a special place on Nintendo, and I promise I will do everything I can, and I can do quite a lot being the CEO to get that in a great shape. So, again, the whole idea here is that they want this game just to be as polished as possible so people feel like it's a great version of the game. kind of getting the same praise that uh Capcom has been getting for their ports.
They would like to be there as well and have people realize that, hey, this is a well worth playing version of the game that you're not going to feel like you're missing out on a lot by not playing it elsewhere. Uh so, look, that's as good a reason as any to delay releasing something. Uh I would rather have a better version of the game than a buggy one that gets patched later. So, yep, I'm I'm cool with that. Uh that is the only real acceptable excuse I'll take for delaying games. It's also the only excuse that truly matters. Uh, speaking of a game that's been delayed uh, for a while, but uh, is been really exciting on my radar. Uh, we're talking about Mina the Hollower. And guess what?
Mean the Hollower has a release date.
They dropped a new little 11second trailer here. Uh, Mean of the Hol is releasing on May 29th, 2026. Look at all those platforms. Look at that. Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, Steam. It's also going to be part of the Humble website, the good old games website. obviously buy it directly from Yak Club Games AS WELL. OH MY GOSH, May 29th. Okay, this was done via a tweet as well here saying, "The true final release date, Mina the Hollower, launches on May 29th for $19.99.
Prepare yourself for one of the greatest topdown adventures ever to be delivered directly to your soul for less than 20 bucks. Mark your calendars, tell your friends wishlist now. Links are below.
And sure enough, they do provide links here to me of thehollow.com. And when you go to meet the hollowower.com, you'll just see a pretty basic website.
Here are some screenshots and videos uh and all of that with the release dates and uh obviously you click buy now. It's going to take you to different places to buy it based on what platform you're on.
So guys, uh I'm really excited for this.
Uh, we have reached out to Yach Club Games to schedule them to come on our podcast, the Nintend podcast sometime this month. We're still working out which Wednesday it's going to be. I would venture the guess it's not today [laughter] because they haven't respond.
Well, they responded last week. I responded this morning. Uh, so it's not today, but that doesn't mean that it won't be next week or the week after.
There's plenty of time here for them to try to come on the show. I'm really looking forward to getting uh them on the show. Uh we have a kind of a jam-packed uh slate here for the uh the podcast uh beginning really the end of this month on forward. That said, uh apparently another YouTuber is demanding to get on. No, by the way, I didn't watch your video yet. I'm just aware of the video because everyone keeps pestering me about it.
[laughter] Guess I'll have to watch. I don't know why. That's that's one. It's an interesting way to demand to come on the the show. All right. Whatever. Anyways, guys, let's go ahead and move on. Some of you guys don't even know what we're talking about, so I'm just confusing you, and that's fine. Let's go ahead and dive into the main story here. And this is from an article from Bloomberg. Now, unfortunately, the article is behind a payw wall today, so we can't share that article directly, but we can share a bunch of quotes that are on other websites from it, but I wanted to show the article so you know it's real. So, Nintendo under pressure to raise Switch to prices to protect the margins. And it says, "With shares on their worst streak in a decade." Now, who wrote it? Well, Takahashi Machizuki, which lots of Nintendo fans are not happy with him for various reasons we're not going to get into uh today. That being said, uh obviously, you know, before you can go into any report like this, you know, they said it's based on their uh stock performance. And look, this is this is what they're talking about with the stock performance. Their stock is still in a really good place comparatively to where it was before the Switch generation. However, yes, it has been continually sinking down. You can kind of see here uh it kind of peeking up during the switch too and honestly being majorly overvalued at the time. And then you can see the sink down. You see it peaked back up again with Poptopia and then it's been coming back down again.
Uh we're not down to where it was like in 2023 and 2022 which again are still really healthy for Nintendo years. So I want to be very clear this valuation is still not a terrible valuation for Nintendo. But you can see it's a massive drop off from where they were last year.
So the claim I guess here is that because their stock continues to perform bad and nothing Nintendo does even with Pocopia seems to turn it around. Well that hey uh Nintendo needs to do something about this and something they need to do is raise the price of Switch too. Now we are going to go into some quotes here uh that are posted over on the gaming leaks and rumors subreddit and some that are on Go Nintendo because again I can't reference the original article because it's behind a payw wall.
That being said, let's go ahead and get to the quotes. So, since the launch of its Switch 2 in June, Nintendo has been on a hot streak of successful game releases punctuated with popular theme park attractions and another winning cinema release last month. It should be riding high. Yet, it's Tokyo traded shares are on their worst run in a decade. The contradiction and the debate in investor circles centers on the price of Switch 2 console itself. Many now believe that Nintendo simply must raise prices when it reports its earnings this Friday to guard against escalating costs and appease an anxious investor community. Others worry about the impact on demand, though that may be short-lived, unlike the share price pressure. Nintendo's stock has retreated for five straight months, marking the longest sustained decline since 2016.
Its path coupled with Nicay 2025 or 225 benchmark in September when signs of memory chip supply crunch emerged has only gotten worse with the outbreak of the war in Iran. Measured against their August high, Nintendo shares have surrendered roughly half of their market value. The Kyotobased firm has managed to only temporarily The Kyotobased firm has managed only temporary reprieves. It scored a global hit with the March release of Pokemon Pokeia and in April delivered a winner with Super Mario Galaxy movie. Unlike Tokyo and rival Sony, those who track have as many misses as hits, Nintendo is on an inevitable run of successful releases.
Data from industry trackers Fabitsu and Circana also indicate the Switch 2 continues to sell faster than any other home uh game machine in history. So, why has Nintendo sunk so much lower than Sony? The Tokyo company hasn't been shy about raising PS5 prices. Nintendo investors are concerned that the $450 Switch 2 is deeply unprofitable. US tech giants are buying up the world's supply of key components like memory, while trade disruptions from the Middle East war are affecting the cost of shipping and even basic materials like plastics.
Japanese peers like Capcom, Koe Techmo, and indeed Sony are also under pressure.
All eyes now turn to Friday's earnings briefing to see if Nintendo president President Shantero Furkawa addresses the Switch 2's pricing strategy. Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Toyo Research Advice, believes the stock will continue to struggle until the price is adjusted.
The choice is stark. permit the shares to continue their decline by holding the switch to price firm and hoping for a major software hit to change the narrative or increase the price to steady the ship and risk alienating customers at a sensitive time in the product's life cycle. If a hike occurs, the subsequent question is the magnitude. The timing seems urgent given that Nintendo is currently selling the hardware at a loss. So now we have an article referencing that Nintendo is selling the hardware at a loss. Now, what's interesting here is uh some direct quotes from some of the analysts in the article. So, we're getting this from Go Nintendo. Here you see Nintendo investors think Nintendo should raise the price. So, let's get to what three of these people said. So, Hideki Yasuda, analyst at Toya Research said, "The market is punishing stocks that lack inflation hedging power. Web Bush securities analyst Michael Patra, there's the name, dude. I haven't heard Michael Patrick's name in a while." Did you guys know he's still doing the Ptor Factor on YouTube? Fun fact, that show is still ongoing. Credit to him. Uh, anyways, uh, I think they would be foolish to raise prices. Hey, holy crap.
Wait a second. Wait a second. For the first time, for the first time in my life, I just agreed with Michael Ptor.
Holy crap, guys. I don't look, this is more of a personal milestone. You guys don't have to care. But for any of us that have been following the gaming industry for decades and knows about Michael Pat and his days, game trailers and stuff, oh my gosh, agreeing with him as a Nintendo fan is a rarity. All right, let's go here. Uh, I think it would be foolish to raise prices. The consumer is hurting. People are paying more for gasoline and food, and when prices go up, entertainment budgets are one of the first things to go. Japan equity analyst Pelam Smither says if they make a mistake on pricing whichever way it goes we run into the Wii U problem the situation will just get worse and worse. So you're seeing that you know one of the analysts is like hey man they have to increase prices because of the issues. Then two other analysts are like actually you know what if Nintendo does that there's a huge risk here that they could end up losing the Switch 2 market entirely. The sales could literally fall to a crawl and then who cares like you're not moving any units. You're not so you're not selling more software. So you're actually hurting the bottom line long haul. It is a fair argument and one that Furkawa in prior investor meetings has said he has to consider anytime they have a conversation about raising the price.
They have to consider the consumer side and sales momentum because they know, hey, a majority of our money isn't made on hardware anyways. It's made on software. What we need to do is get enough hardware out there so our software sales start to just bang like they were doing on switch one like Tomodachi Life is currently doing. And although Poptopia has been doing that on Switch, too. So, yeah, we just got to sit back and see uh how this plays out.
Obviously, Nintendo is going to have a lot of questions. Uh I don't think we're going to hear from the Q&A uh this week.
I think we'll hear from it next week.
But either way, guys, I'm really excited for the future of Nintendo. I don't know uh that I share these concerns that the investors do. I've said said this last year that when the uh when the when the stock price kept skyrocketing, I'm like, why is it skyrocketing? Like nothing's happening to make it skyrocket. And the very first year of a brand new platform is always like the least profitable year. The hardware is the least profitable. The software sales are the worst. What the hell are we doing having it spike higher than it's ever been when Nintendo is not financially doing higher than it's ever been. But again, those are just my thoughts. I obviously don't know where things are going to rest long haul. What I am going to say though, guys, is thank you so much for being here. Uh we do have the Nintend podcast tonight. I hope you guys decide to uh tune into that. We got a couple good topics already uh percolating and some more coming. Uh the shows are only going to get crazier. So, most of this uh month is going to be the same podcast crew. It's going to be me, Eric, Gamebird, Thunder Stash, and Favlam.
However, our final episode of the month is a special one because we have we have Switch Force coming on. We also have Kiwi Talks coming on as well. So, going to be a hell of a show. Uh I'm excited about it. I hope you're excited about it as well. And we have a lot more special guests to come. Rogers base coming up.
Now we're hearing RGT85 apparently wants to come on. I don't know if that's going to happen yet. There's just a lot guys.
I'm excited for the future. Hope you're excited as well. And hope to see all of you tonight at the Nintend podcast.
