Steam Deck MASSIVE Price Increase!! A look at Steam Machine's Future??

[00:00:00]Seems like every company's having a party out there. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Steam was knocking on the door and saying, "Hey guys, can you let me in? I'd like to join the party, too."

[00:00:08]We got some things to talk about in terms of price increases. Let's get into it.

[00:00:16][music] Announced just a short while ago, Valve has raised the prices of their Steam Deck. And the reason why this is important, I'll get into this a little bit later in the video, is about their future hardware and where that's going to sit and where we could possibly see their prices. So, for example, what happened here is their 512 GB OLED Steam Deck has gone up from $5.49, these are all in US dollars, up to $789.

[00:00:40]I don't even want to know what this is all going to end up as Canadian for me.

[00:00:43]Uh, and the one TBTE OLED has gone from $649 to a staggering $949.

[00:00:51]This is for a handheld, ladies and gentlemen. Yes, I know that there are more expensive handhelds out there.

[00:00:56]However, a price increase of $300 for the 1 TBTE and over $230 for the $512 GB handheld does not bode well for Valve's future in terms of hardware. Now, I know I didn't want to say what the Canadian prices were or find out, but I found out anyway just because it's got to be that amusing. As it stands right now, the 512 gigabyte OLED is going to come in at an eyewatering $1,129.

[00:01:24]And of course, with the 13% egregious sales tax that I pay here in Ontario, that comes out to $1,275.

[00:01:33]For the 1 terbte OLED, boy, I can't even say this with a straight face. $1,349 with tax. that is going to come out to $1,524.

[00:01:48]This is beyond reach for so many people.

[00:01:51]And of course, you cannot keep saying global market conditions, changing market conditions. What's the point of all those conditions if people can't simply afford the hardware anymore? You are pricing out an entire generation of people from gaming. And it is beyond ridiculous at this point. People can crap all over what I'm saying or whatever. Oh, it's just 50 bucks or it's just a hundred bucks or it's just 20 bucks or it's just, you know, get some money broky and this and that. That's not the reality of the world, folks. You can have the same old people that say that online and whatever. Everybody ignores them anyway. They're just looking for attention. But the thing is, at the end of the day, you are pricing everybody out of every corner of this gaming industry. And it's getting ridiculous now. You've got Microsoft who have done it already. And of course, they raised their subscription prices and then they had to come back down. but at a cost. Removing Call of Duty, their biggest franchise, right? And then you've got Sony raising their prices to egregious levels. The PS5 Pro now is $900 US. That is insane. Then you've got Nintendo, much less, but still raise the prices of a console that isn't selling the way that they wanted to. Sure, they sold hot right off the bat because for once in the entire history of Nintendo, they actually had stock. Therefore, the hardcore was able to purchase day one, but from the holidays and on, they have been sagging. And even here in Canada, the sales have been absolutely poor for the Switch 2. Why? Because it's too expensive. Now you've got the Steam Deck going up in price. Now, I know a lot of people already have that, but if there are other people looking for a handheld option, well, you've just locked out a whole ton of people out of that option because of global market conditions once again. And now you've got people like Black Rockck saying, "Oh, we're going to have to go into people's uh uh um uh we're going to have to go into their retirement funds in order to continue to fund these AI projects." This is billionaires and trillionaires by the way, right? So, and same with these companies and not willing to subsidize even for 6 months or to a year until this all evens out. No, they make you pay the customer. And that is where I have a problem with all of this because we are customers. I'm not just some, you know, figure head or anything. I'm a customer just like you, just like everybody else. I have to go to the store and I have to go buy all this stuff. I don't get fancy packages at my door. I certainly don't have these companies doing things for me. And therefore, I'm not going to shill for any of them. I'm going to shill for you, the customer. And this is getting insane now. It's gotten to the point now, like I said, where beyond the hardcore, the the casual market, forget about it. You could forget about the casual market.

[00:04:19]85% of people out there who are the casual market are not going to be shelling out this kind of money. But anyways, the point is this. This all boils down to the Steam machine.

[00:04:29]the Steam machine is going to be a serious problem because if they're raising the prices to this right now to the way that it is damn near $1,000 for a one terabyte and another $250 or $230 increase on the 512 GB handheld. What the hell is this Steam machine going to cost? I can't see this thing being anywhere lower than 700 for a smaller sized uh just very similar to the Steam Deck and $1,000 for a 1 TB. That's the best I could see out of that. And once again, in my opinion, dead on arrival just like everything else moving forward. It's just people can't afford it. When people can't afford to put groceries on their table, when people can't afford to pay their mortgages or their bills, and people are going to food banks, people with families with full-time jobs are going to food banks, you think they're going to shell out anywhere from 700 to$,000 US for a console? Absolutely not. These companies are going to find out the hard way that this is not the way to go because people have had enough. I can't even take the kids to a movie theater without costing me anything less than $150.

[00:05:37]And that is on the low end and the cheap end. I got chicken fingers for my son and a small hamburger for myself at Canada's Wonderland, an amusement park here in Ontario, the biggest amusement park in Canada. It cost me $55 for chicken fingers, one burger, one fry, and two bottles of water. $55. How long do you think that we're going to be able to maintain this? Not very long.
