Sarah skillfully deconstructs the romanticized Regency era by grounding its literary tropes in the gritty political reality of the 19th century. This blend of casual vlogging and historical critique offers a sophisticated take on how social constraints continue to shape our romantic ideals.

Jeep Chat 4/29/26Añadido:
Hello friends.
Love Sockwell here. Also, my name is Sarah.
I am still here. I'm still knitting.
Man, I had wanted to put up more videos last several weeks, but there just hasn't been time.
Life has been busy. There's been lots of extra things and appointments and goings-on.
I am still knitting though.
But I have to say, my knitting mojo has totally changed.
Probably for various reasons.
I've really been enjoying reading a lot more.
And that has been sometimes taking precedence over wanting to get my projects done, which is totally fine.
I finished Seeking Persephone and you guys, if you have not read Seeking Persephone by Sarah M. Eden, you have to get your hands on it and read it. And then when you're done, watch the mini series on Amazon Prime.
You do have to buy it, but it is worth every penny. It is so good and it's just like the book. The acting is great, the scenery is wonderful, the costumes are great. It's such a good story. It's basically just a beautiful sweet Regency romance. It's so so good.
I love it. I've watched it multiple times since finishing the book. I read the book in like one day so I could watch the mini series.
And oh, it was so fun. It was such a fun weekend to be able to do that. It was a couple weekends back.
And then there are more books in the whole Lancaster family series. So I finished Courting Miss Lancaster, that's book two, and I just started Romancing Daphne and that's book three.
So I'll let you know what I think.
They've all been delightful so far.
And I'm also reading The Queue by Beth K. Bower. She's the author of The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Line. If you have not read I don't even know what you're doing. Stop what you're doing right now and go read them because they're so incredibly wonderful and great. And I love them forever. They're so so good. But anyway, The Queue is a standalone novel and written in Beth K. Bower's just beautiful writing style. I don't even know how to describe that book.
It's not as It's not my favorite like the Emma books are, but it's still very very good and I'm about three quarters finished with that one.
And what else? Oh my goodness. I read another old book that's a romance by an an uh an old author from [laughter] the 1800s. He was a His name is Edward Payson Roe and he wrote novels during well, I guess I don't know if it was during Civil War or like right after the Civil War. Um he was a Presbyterian chaplain um in the military.
I think he gave up being in the ministry for health reasons and then just kept writing novels. And he wrote romances, which I don't know for a man at that time like just to be writing romance novels just is kind of hilarious to me, but he's written tons, very prolific writer. But the book I read of him is called He Fell in Love with His Wife and it's about kind of a bucolic farmer whose wife had passed away and they didn't have any children and in order to for him to be able to continue farming his land he he really he needs a woman in the house to um to run the dairy and just keep the house going and you know, be making food. He He needs a wife. So he comes he through a series of events he's comes to know this woman who's had you know, some trauma in her background and some sad things happened to her and she's she's destitute and needs needs a job. So they decide to have a like business marriage. Like he'll marry her, give her his name and she has a safe place to go. Um and she will work in the house and make the food and work work the dairy.
But it's just a business arrangement.
Like they have she has her own bedroom, you know, she it's just like for propriety's sake, you know, they get married.
Um but of course through the course of the novel they fall in love and some high jinks ensue. Some high stakes happen. So it's so so good. I loved it. Um I definitely want to read more books by Edward Payson Roe. His books are um a lot of them are available on Kindle. You can just read them on Kindle or Kindle Unlimited, but you can also try to track down um or original published books like old antique ones and I did find He Fell in Love with His Wife and I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. Um but I I've already read it, but I want it on my bookshelf because it's it's so good. I really want to reread it again and again.
So that's what I've been reading. I'm still working steadily on this, which is the Bits and Bobs Blanket by K Jones and this is my year-long blanket and I'm trying to just knit two rows a day on it. I'm still ahead by two months and that's great.
I'm going to try to keep keep going. As As long as I knit two rows a day I'll stay on top of it.
So I'm almost done with the month of June in terms of rows.
And I decided to put in a section with fingering weight and Suri Alpaca.
And it's that starts right here. So from here to here is all with Suri Alpaca and I'm almost done with with that little bit. I think hopefully I can get one more row and then I have my other magic cake ready to go, which also has a bit of Suri Alpaca on the inside, this fluorescent yellow. But then it's going to go back to just two strands of fingering weight.
So yeah, I may periodically throw in some some like mohair or Suri Alpaca if I feel like it.
So yes, I got to do it. I finished my first row and I got to do my my second row and then I'll be done with my my two rows for the day.
But here it is. It's really getting quite big and heavy, which is great.
I am almost halfway done with it. Yay!
I'm so excited.
I love the concept of a year-long um like scrappy blanket. I'm trying to come up with ideas for what to do next year. I I think I might do another Bits and Bobs or I might I'm thinking about maybe doing the Jelly Roll, but also by K Jones. Um but doing DK so that it's thicker.
Because I think if I if I do my gauge right for width if I did one strip per month, so it would be a 12 strip wide blanket. And if I just do one strip per month, I could figure out, okay, how many inches do I knit need to knit per day to make that happen. Because I don't think it would be that much because if a a month has 30 days, you probably only need to knit like that much. It doesn't take very long. So it's totally doable.
So that's a possibility.
>> [sighs and gasps] >> I want to start it right now. Just get a head start on it.
>> [laughter] >> We'll see.
Um yes.
Loving I love love love scrappy blankets. It's my absolute favorite thing in the whole world. Okay, so this marker right here, this marks the beginning of the June rows.
Today is the 29th. It is April 29th. So I'm almost done with June.
And there's my rainbow. Isn't that pretty?
Love it. And I'm so excited to get my next magic cake. I made this magic cake a while ago so I barely remember what I even put in it. So [laughter] it'll be a surprise when I as I as I knit it up.
>> [laughter] >> Okay.
I've been knitting socks. I have not been cranking through socks as quickly, which is totally fine.
Totally fine.
But I did finish two pairs of socks recently. I finished the Kiss Kiss by uh Hedgehog Fibers. That really pretty pink color. Actually, I I don't have them with me cuz I didn't bring them with to town, but it's this color right here.
That's Kiss Kiss.
I did finish that pair and then just yesterday I finished Pressed Flowers also by Hedgehog. I didn't bring it with. And I don't I don't think I've put that yarn on my blanket yet.
I may have pulled off some of Pressed Flowers and it might be hidden in here somewhere, but obviously I can't show you that.
So yes, I'm excited. I'm finishing my socks.
I have a basket with single socks in them that need mates, that need the second sock.
So, I started another second sock yesterday that I had not I had finished the first one a while ago, but then never got the second one going. So, this is my next second sock that I'm working on.
It's the only sock I have on the needles right now. Isn't that crazy?
It's Freckled Whimsy Keep Calm and Leprechaun. So, I have all my all my leprechauns on here.
And uh clover.
This is a little Lock and Lou St. Patrick's Day gnome and then this one's a Charmed and Dangerous gnome with his red He's Irish with his red beard and his clover on his hat.
So, yeah.
Just started this yesterday. I'm almost to the heel flap. So, I'm making good progress.
So, yeah, I think I have five socks that need matches.
I keep doing that. This just keeps happening. But, you know, whatever. I really don't care.
As long as it doesn't get to be too many, [laughter] it's okay. So, yeah, I'm trying not to start any more new like brand new socks until I get that stack of socks like down to a reasonable quantity, which what is a reasonable quantity? I don't know.
>> [laughter] >> Maybe maybe three, two? I don't know.
But, I will be starting more socks. So, I just got in the mail yesterday from Lolo Did It. I haven't gotten any Lolo Did It yarn in a long time. So, this was really fun. Um I got her Nostalgic Club.
I don't know what month I don't I'm not sure how she does that club, but it's the Cabbage Patch Kids colorway and of course I don't have it with me.
But, it's so fun. You can go to her website lolodidit.com and look at it.
And I got a really pretty pink mini to go with it for um like cuffs, heels, toes, whatever, which I haven't decided how I want what I want to do, if I want to do plain vanilla with those, if I want to do like three by one ribbing, etc. Not sure. I did finish another first sock. So, this is this will make five. I think I have If I finish this, I think I'll have five socks that still need the second knit.
This one This is Potions and Pearls yellow funfetti inspired by the cake mix, I do believe.
And I decided to knit three by one garter rib.
So, it's knit three, purl one for one round and then knit a plain round and then you just repeat those two rows.
Very easy, but it makes a nice little bit more snuggy fit than just plain vanilla does.
Don't have the second one on the go. I just finished this one like on Monday, I think.
Yeah. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure I have five socks in that basket that I need to knit the second socks for.
I did bring with me one of them. So, this is one of the five.
Um this is Sprinkles on Top by What is her Etsy handle?
Hand uh No.
Stitching with Yarn.
>> [laughter] >> And this is a sparkle base.
I really hope this is enough for the second sock. I did a contrast heel and a toe, but I hope this is enough for the leg and the foot. I don't know. It's because this skein I wound up when I got it and like put a square on my Cozy Memories blanket. I pulled off some to put on a couple of jelly rolls and I don't know what I I just pulled off a lot of it for all all my scrappy projects. Then started a pair of socks and so now I don't know.
I don't know if it's going to be enough.
I'm just going to go with it. We'll see what happens. If I run out, I'll just find some other yarn in my stash to put with it. It will be fine. Nobody cares.
I'll probably give them to Juliet anyway or keep them myself.
So, that's that.
Did I bring anything else with me? I think that's it.
I think that's all I brought with me.
Yeah, I'm just sitting here waiting for Juliet. She will be done She probably won't be done for another 30 minutes cuz like her class is done in 20 minutes, but then she she likes to eat lunch with her friends. So, I just kind of wait here for a while she's hanging out with her friends eating her lunch.
So, yes, we were going to try um the three of us, Ben, Juliet and me.
Those are the three of us that are here in Alaska. Marshall's at at at college.
Priscilla's at college.
Um What am What am I trying to say? Oh, so the weather's been horrible. Um it's We are going through what is known as breakup season in Alaska. It's The weather's not great. It's still cold.
Nothing's growing or bloom blooming.
It's not green here yet. There's been lots of cloudy kind of miserable days. So, to cheer us up, Ben was like, "Let's just drive." Cuz if you drive into the interior of Alaska like going towards Fairbanks, it's typically sunnier there than it is closer to Anchorage. But, we've been keeping an eye on the weather cuz the weather changes like that. And um it's not looking like it's going to be sunny there. So, I think it's going to be more snowy. And we're like, "We don't really want to drive somewhere and then the weather's like even worse than it is here." So, we might just stay here, but have like an Anchorage day on Saturday. Um We We joined a athletic club um in the town that we're the closest to. So, we might like go do something together there and then drive to Anchorage. There's a bunch of museums we could go to. There's lots of fun places to go eat like ale houses or brew houses um etc. So, we'll probably do that and then Juliet and me have really been wanting to go see Project Hail Mary. So, I think we'll all go see that. Normally, Ben does not like to go see movies. He likes movies, but he just he's got so much energy. He does not like to sit.
Like it he gets really grumpy.
Cuz it's uncomfortable for him like either his chest or his back or his hip or something. And so then he's like he's just got to get up and move around. He's He's always got to be in constant motion.
So, but I think we can we're going to get him we're going to get him to see Project Hail Mary. Um I actually bought the book as well, but I haven't read it yet. I read like the first couple pages and I think I'm going to like it, but I just haven't had time to read it.
I'm in my romance regency era. So, that's all I keep reading.
>> [laughter] >> Yes. Was there any other books that I finished reading?
I think I told you I told you about my fav my favorites that I just finished that I loved. Um Yeah.
I've been enjoying watching Sanditon on Amazon Prime. I think it's on Amazon Prime. It might be BritBox. I don't know. But, so Sanditon is a novel that Jane Austen died before she finished it, but of course they they've taken it and made it into a mini-series. So, I'm sure there's lots of artistic license being trod upon with it, but it's very interesting. Honestly, it's kind of like a soap opera, but it's not it's not like smutty or anything. It's just it's interesting, but it's just basically all about relationships and you know, you think you know somebody and then you find out no, they're really not what they say they are. And so, it's lots of lots of character development, I would say. So, it's been very interesting to watch that.
And of course, I I rewatch Seeking Persephone like every other day practically. I'm even got Ben to watch it with me. Um there's four episodes with Seeking Persephone and I've we've watched the first episode together, but we haven't gotten to the the second one yet because we keep he keeps starting documentaries that he wants us to watch, which is fine. Um and one of them is all about the regency era from like it's on YouTube. It's like the BBC or something.
So, it's all about like cuz he been wanting to know like why are the why are there all these like regency romance books? Like why is it called that? Why is that era called that? So, so we've been watching a documentary about like why is it called the regency era? And it's because of the prince regent. So, I think it was King George who kind of went crazy.
And so, temporarily they put his son as the prince regent while he was being crazy and insane cuz of his whatever disease he had. But, then he got better. But, then his son did end end up becoming the king and so, that's why that period of time is the regency era. But, he was like a terrible person.
Like he he was not faithful to his wife.
He was very dissolute and lecherous and not a good example at all.
So, it's kind of crazy he has like a whole entire era called after himself. But, anyway, I'm totally rambling. It's almost at 20 minutes. So, I won't keep you. And thank you for watching.
And yeah, that's all I got to say.
I hope you are well. I hope that it's spring wherever you are because it sure isn't here, even though technically all the snow is gone. It's not Well, no, I'm looking at some a pile of snow in front of me, but it's just because it's south It's north-facing?
I don't know. All All the south-facing surfaces, the snow is gone.
But, there's still piles of snow um where where the sun don't shine, so.
Anyway, I'll let you go. I'm not I'm not saying anything worth hearing at this point.
>> [laughter] >> Have a wonderful day, evening, wherever you are. God bless you, and I will see you next time. Goodbye.
