Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked Again | Third Fuel Price Increase In Under 10 Days | Fuel Price ShockAdded:
Now, the fuel prices, meanwhile, have been increased once again in India, marking the third hike in the last weeks in in under 10 days. This is the third hike that we're witnessing. Petrol prices have gone up by 87 paise per liter, while diesel prices have increased by 91 paise per liter. Petrol in New Delhi will now cost 99.51 rupees per liter after the 0.87 rupee increase.
And the diesel prices in the national capital have gone up to 92.49 rupees per liter after 91 paise increase. So, the prices were first raised by 3 rupees per liter on May 15th. Another increase of 90 paise followed on May 19th. [music] And then with the latest revision that is today, on May 23rd, it has been again rise It has again risen by around 90 paise. Fuel prices have risen by nearly 5 rupees per liter in total over the past 2 weeks. Even CNG prices in Delhi have been hiked by 1 rupee. Now, CNG is being sold at 81.09 [music] rupees per kg in the national capital. The latest hike comes at a time when the government is facing [music] pressure from rising global crude oil prices caused by the US-Iran war.
The day begins with a bitter news, for sure, for the common man across the country because fuel prices have increased yet again, third time in 9 days. And what does that mean? If you live in Delhi, this is Indian Oil petrol pump. Now, every liter of petrol will come for 99 rupees and 51 paise. So, there is 87 paise increase in the petrol prices. As far as the diesel prices are concerned, I'll ask Jagannath to come this side where you have people queuing up on the petrol pump quite early in the day, you know, to get their vehicles refueled, possibly not even knowing the price hike that has happened. And the diesel prices have gone up by 91 paise. So, that means that if you are in Delhi it would cost you 92 rupees 49 paisa per liter.
Right there people also understanding that there are global factors which are leading to this price hike and there could be mixed reaction to it so these are people who are just waking up to the reality of increased fuel prices be it petrol or diesel. But I'm given to understand that CNG prices have gone up as well so as I was mentioning this does not only mean costlier petrol and diesel for your vehicle, costlier transportation, you know, as far as your commodity is concerned things coming to your kitchen is concerned everything gets costlier from here.
In fact just ahead of the India visit Marco Rubio the US Secretary of State said that US is moving to position itself as a bigger energy supplier to India. In fact he also pointed out that there were opportunities with Venezuelan oil. This remark comes ahead of the interim president of [music] Venezuela visit to India. Listen in to what Marco Rubio said.
We want to sell them as much energy as they'll buy and obviously you've seen I think we're at historic levels of US production and US exports. We want to be able to do more. We were already in talks with them to do more. We want to be a bigger part of their of their portfolio. We also think there's opportunities with Venezuelan oil. Um in fact it's my understanding that the interim president Venezuela will be traveling to India next week as well so there's opportunities.
There's a lot to work on with India.
They're a great ally a great partner. We do a lot of good work with them and so it is an important trip. I'm glad we're able to do it because I think there'll be a lot for us to talk about. And we'll also meet with a quad there, which is important. Something I think my first meeting as Secretary of State was with the quad.
And as global oil tensions rise, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as you just heard before his India visit, made a major pitch for deeper energy ties with India, saying that Washington wants to sell New Delhi as much energy as they will buy. Rubio also revealed that Venezuela's interim president Delcy Rodriguez is expected to visit India next week, hinting at possible discussions around Venezuelan crude as India looks to diversify its energy [music] basket amid global supply uncertainty.
So, why is uh this significant? Why does this matter? In fact, he has also called India a great ally and a partner. And uh uh Rubio has also underlined that energy security and strategic cooperation and the quad meeting in Delhi will be the key focus areas [music] during his visit. Let's also understand India's energy imports from the US. [music] So, cheap Venezuelan oil can help uh India a lot. Venezuela can't fully meet India's massive energy uh needs, and India is world's third largest oil importer.
India needs diversified energy supply lines, and that is why it also becomes significant. Venezuelan heavy crude suits some Indian refineries as well, and cheap Venezuelan oil can help India if supplies stabilize. Venezuela can't fully meet India's massive energy [music] needs, and the sanctions, the turmoil, and weak infra can hurt Venezuela oil output also. So, [music] shipping oil from Venezuela is costlier and slower, and India will still depend on the Gulf oil [music] and also the Russian crude and the US energy.
So, this was the pitch by Marco Rubio ahead of his uh visit uh to India while he was departing for uh uh India, he had uh made this pitch for India to buy more of Venezuelan oil. And he also announced about interim Venezuelan president's visit to India. That was That was the announcement which was made by [music] Marco Rubio. And currently, he's already in India. He has landed in Kolkata. He is at the Mother House in Central Kolkata. He will also be visiting Prime Minister Modi later today. Now, this visit comes at a time when we're already witnessing [music] fuel hikes. Uh today is May 23rd, and we've already witnessed the third fuel uh price hike.
And [music] uh in the last almost 9 to 10 days, the fuel prices have been hiked by around 5 rupees. In fact, the CNG prices have also gone up. So, the fuel hike, how does it impact you? Let's understand. So, if the fuel prices are up by 1 rupee per liter, let's understand how [music] will that impact you. So, the monthly fuel bill will be up by around 150 to 300 rupees if the fuel price hike is 1 rupee per liter.
The auto, cab, bus fares may also rise by 1 to 3%. [music] In fact, uh the vegetables and groceries will be up by approximately 100 to 250 rupees per month. The milk and delivery and daily essentials will also cost more because of the hike in the uh fuel prices. The online orders, logistics charges also edge up because of that. So, the total monthly household impact will be approximately 300 to 800 rupees. And if we take a look at the current situation, the prices have already been hiked by around 5 uh rupee per liter. So, this will The household impact monthly will [music] be around uh 1,500 to 4,000. And this is uh for uh a family of four. So, this is the approximate data. This is how it is going to impact the aam aadmi. We've already shown you the figures of how uh it will impact if there's a uh there's a hike of 1 rupee per liter. The total, if we take a look at the current situation where we've already seen a hike of approximately 5 rupees, so that is going to have an impact of around 1,500 to 4,000 rupees extra for a family of four. That's That's an approximate data that we are telling our viewers.
