Hantavirus is a rodent-borne disease with a long incubation period that can lead to human-to-human transmission, particularly through the Andes variant; cruise ships pose health risks when passengers are exposed to rodent-infested environments, as demonstrated by a Disney Cruise Line incident where passengers contracted the virus while birdwatching at a landfill in South America, leading to a complex public health response involving contact tracing and isolation protocols across multiple countries.

Disney Cruise Line Troubles plus Infected Cruise Updates追加:
All right, we got updates. We got updates, man. Disney Cruise Lines having problems. They had a cruise that canceled right after it started. People are already on board. They also got some trouble with their workers and hantavirus. It's interesting topic. It brings up a question, would you give your life for your hobby? Cuz apparently in hantavirus case, that's what happened. Look, all that and more going on in today's episode of The CREW SHOW.
ALL ABOARD! YOUR SHIP IS LEAVING.
TALKING ABOUT everything going on in cruising.
IT'S THE LITTLE LOCAL TIME. IT'S THE CREW SHOW. IT'S THE >> [music] >> CREW SHOW. HEY, HEY, what's up, everybody? Welcome to la little local.
Welcome to The Crew Show. I am your host, Tony, here to talk you through everything going on in cruising.
It's everything going on in cruising.
It's for your face. For your face on a Saturday. Saturday, the 10th. Is that what it is? Or is it the 9th? The 10th?
I don't know what day it is.
Saturday, the 9th. The 9th of May, 2026.
And I'm on location here in Metropolis, Illinois. I was up in the western Kentucky area yesterday because of my son, Andrew. He done graduated from college. So, big shout out to my boy, Andrew, getting it done. All right, so let's talk about Disney Cruise Line.
Check this situation out. Thousands of passengers boarded the Disney Adventure over there in Singapore, May the 7th.
Just a couple days ago, 2026. And then they were forced to get off the next day because the cruise ship was broken. Now, the cruise ship was broken when they got on board, but they allowed them to get on board in an attempt to fix the cruise ship. But apparently those attempts failed. And so, they decided instead of keeping people on at port for the length of the cruise, that they're just going to kick them off. So, they got kicked off of the cruise ship. It's like 6,700 passengers. And the wild thing is they all ended up with a letter in their cabin saying, "Hey, look. I kind of know that you're unpacked and you're ready for your cruise vacation, but it ain't going to happen. So, if you could, prepare all your personal belongings, get all that stuff together, and get the heck off the ship. Uh life happens, right? The cruise ships are machines, they're imperfect, things break down. I guess you got to take all that with a grain of salt. Now, of course, Disney's doing what they should do in this.
Everybody's getting 100% refund, and they're also going to be throwing some money at people who need help with their travel arrangements, canceled flights, rearranged flights, that kind of thing.
But, could you imagine getting on your luxury cruise vacation, getting all your stuff unpacked, only to be told you got to go? Well, and I guess since we're talking about Disney Cruise Line, we cannot not talk about this. have been uh pulled off of a Disney cruise ship in San Diego and deported. They're part of a federal investigation that was going on into people that owned exploitive materials of children, which is a super duper a leak uh child exploitive materials. Uh of course, they're not US citizens, and so they were grabbed by Customs and Border Protection and deported, which um I don't know, it raises an interesting question for me.
If you know that somebody has something that's so illegal in their possession, why are you deporting them and not prosecuting them? But, uh apparently, they're deporting them back to their home country, and hopefully in their home country, uh this gets uh addressed because uh this is material that nobody should have. Before we move on and I start buying toilet paper and we talk about the next potential pandemic, not really, uh let me show you a couple things here. First, this is This is Bob's Big Boy dressed as Superman. How about that? And then, uh right across from me is the Superman Museum, and then, uh of course, Metropolis, the home of Superman, has this wonderful Superman statue. If you're ever in Western Kentucky, pop on up to Illinois. I'm in Illinois, the Land of Lincoln. Pop on up to Metropolis, Illinois, and see the Superman statue. It's pretty cool. All right, let's talk about Hantavirus, and there's several things going on with the Hantavirus. One of the stories that is going around right now deals with this gentleman who caught a lot of heat because he was on the cruise ship where the Hanta virus was. He was able to depart the cruise ship, and then he went to a wedding with a bunch of people. And the picture surfaced of him at a wedding with a bunch of people, and it was known that he was on the cruise ship, and people are freaking out like, "Hey man, why are you such a horrible person that you were on the the rat virus ship, and now all of a sudden you're at a wedding?" Well, unfortunately for him, when he got off the cruise ship, the virus had not yet been discovered on that cruise ship. The problem with this virus is it has a long incubation period, and so you could be infected for a long period of time before any symptoms show up. And so that's what happened on the ship. The people that ended up sick and passing away, that it wasn't known that they had the virus.
The guy that passed away initially from the virus did pass away while the guy that was at the, you know, that went to the wedding was on the ship, but he said that they were informed on the ship that the guy passed away from natural causes.
And so it was only later after he'd gone home and gone to the wedding that he was notified that this was Hanta virus, and then he isolated. Still, the internet being what it is, people are mad that this guy was at a wedding around all those people and the virus, but he didn't know. So that's that's one thing.
There there's some backlash on this virus in the fact that you can go to social media, look up the hashtag sink that ship. There is video after video where people after hearing the news of the infected people and the potential infection on this ship, that their their desire is just to sink the ship, which is not a great thing, right? because not everybody on that ship probably has the Hanta virus. But I guess people don't care. People are so leery of what happened a few years ago that they're like, "All right, if we can stop it, if we can nip it in the bud, then I guess let's sink the ship." Don't be those people. I mean, I think people are probably just posting stuff like that for clicks on the internet, but um yeah, I mean it it raises a very serious question because now the ship has left Cape Verde off the coast of Africa and it's going to be heading to the Canary Islands where the government of Spain said that they can let the passengers off. Now, they're going through some extraordinary precautions. They're going to keep the ship moored off of the coast. They're going to bring the people off uh and then they're going to put them into an isolation type uh tent or area like the complete uh you know, like all those movies that you see about pandemics. They're going to have one of those little cities set up where the people can be isolated, where they can determine whether or not they have this uh virus or not. But the problem is at least for those people that are going to be isolated in Spain, they already let a bunch of people off of the cruise ship.
And so now we have people that were on that cruise ship in multiple states in the United States and countries around the world. And so everybody's scrambling, doing contact tracing, trying to figure out who to isolate, who to watch. People are going to be isolated for maybe more than a month to figure out whether this virus is is anything at all. I guess the silver lining is that all of the health officials out there are saying this will not result in the same scenario that we had with with you know, back in the day, back in 2020. That this is not the same kind of virus, that this is a well-known virus, that you know, to spread this virus you have to be in really close proximity with somebody, you have to have almost intimate contact with somebody or be around somebody for a prolonged period of time, and that this does not spread in the same way that you know, SARS-CoV-2 spread, and that people should not be worried about a global pandemic. The internet being what it is, there's a lot of people freaked out out there. I'm watching it. If you go back and watch my early 2020 videos, I had a pretty good idea of what was going on there and I was banging a bell saying, "Hey, be on the lookout cuz this thing's coming for us." I don't feel like that currently with the hantavirus. Yeah, there there are people out there that are are full-on ready to freak out, but I think we're we're early days and it's going to be interesting. Now, let's Let's about the the poor guy who got this whole thing started and how his hobby killed him. And uh certainly I'm someone who loves hobbies. There there are dangerous hobbies out there like bungee jumping and you know the I don't know that wingsuit thing where you look like a flying squirrel. That seems dangerous. The free soloing a mountain seems dangerous. One thing that does not seem dangerous is birdwatching. I do love birds. Birdwatching, well that's what happened. So the couple that had the original infection, they were in South America and I didn't know this about birders, but apparently one of the best places to spot birds is in a landfill, in a dump, in the trash heap.
And apparently this couple went to a landfill in South America and that's where the World Health Organization, that's where they believe that they contacted or contracted Do you contacted? They They got the virus is what I'm trying to say in some sort of dump trying to spot you know a a yellow-bellied finch. I don't know. What what's a bird that they might see out there? I play enough Wingspan, I should know a bird name, but maybe they're looking for a buzzard. I don't know. Whatever the bird was, it was enough to get them sick and then of course immediately they get onto a cruise ship and other people get sick and that's where we're at today. Tony from the future here. I just wanted you to I'm not saying that the bird got these people sick.
The hantavirus comes from rat substances, feces, urine, saliva.
Not not just rat. Any kind of rodent can carry it. And apparently in the you know the trash heap they got exposed to something from a rodent that gave them the Andes variant of the hantavirus which is one of those rare variants that allows a person to person human to human transmission. But what got them into the dump was the birdwatching. I guess the big question for today are what's your level of concern? The you know there's people out there that saying all this is overhyped and it's just you know mass hysteria for no reason. Do you swing that far on the pendulum side? Are you are you cautious? Or do you you know what or could could you not care less?
Let me know in the comments below.
I don't know why I didn't bring my juggling stuff to juggle in front of Superman, but maybe we'll do the robot.
All right, nothing left to do but dance with no music. Okay, I'll make my own music. Time to get up get up robot with me. Come on, come on.
I'm leaving on a jet plane. I got to get on a plane. Thanks for watching Tony with Latino Loco. We'll see you on Lido.
Bye. Shout out Ludacris.
