Patients who have undergone mastectomy have the right to choose no reconstruction, and this decision should be respected and celebrated as a valid option; healthcare providers should support patients who prefer to embrace their natural state with scars rather than pursue implants or reconstruction, especially given rising concerns about breast implant illness.

Why some women choose no reconstruction after mastectomy — celebrating | Dr. Jonathan KanevskyAdded:
The second thing you mentioned is Um remind me again that you're you're you had asked me a question on the second >> would like to hope that for mastectomy patients >> right. Yeah, and so there's a there's a interesting paradigm happening now in in for patients who have had mastectomy whether it's for cancer or other reasons is that some patients um should and I think there's more patient advocacy for just doing nothing and that's absolutely okay. It's It's okay to just celebrate having scars and not having an implant or having to consider reconstruction.
Yeah, that's that's [laughter] totally fine. People I should I think absolutely entertain that as an option.
>> Please, yes.
>> Um you know, it in some situations it may make reconstruction more challenging, but it shouldn't just be that oh reconstruction is the only option. It's okay to just have a scar either wear a prosthetic or nothing and um you know, patients are given these options sometimes, but I don't think there's enough support for people who just say like listen, I just don't want to deal with the problems anymore.
>> Support and also a celebration, right?
That's why I'm like just high five me and say >> Yeah, thank you for that. Yeah, totally.
>> natural state of, you know, who we are and honor that because implants are on the rise because there is breast implant illness that is also on the rise.
