This volatility was all caused because of the union backing the Samsung employees have confirmed an 18-day strike starting on the 21st of May. JP Morgan have estimated that this 18-day strike could cost the company over $18 billion. But before today, the Kospi was up over 70% in 2026 and this strike announcement has triggered massive profit taking sparking over $1.2 billion in foreign investor capital out of South Korean tech ETFs in a single session.
