In 2024, Saskatchewan had the second highest HIV diagnosis rate in Canada at 18.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is over three times the national average of 5.5 cases. Since early-stage HIV typically shows no symptoms, individuals must actively seek testing through their primary care provider to know their status. Healthcare providers should avoid stigmatizing individuals based on their lifestyles or risk factors and make testing accessible in a non-judgmental way.

Saskatchewan reports second highest HIV rate in CanadaAdded:
An overview of new HIV diagnosis in Canada shows Saskatchewan with the second highest rate across the country.
According to data released in April, Saskatchewan had the second highest rate of HIV in Canada in 2024 at 18.6 diagnosed cases per 100,000 people. Over three times the national average of 5.5 cases. In the last eight months, the government of Saskatchewan says the province has seen new cases developing.
In the early stage of HIV, you don't feel ill, you don't appear ill, so you can't really go on that thing to say if someone has HIV or not. You need to really be aware, seek testing, and be on treatment. We have to make sure that we don't stigmatize individuals because of their lifestyles or risk factors, but we make it easy for people to seek testing in a non-judgmental way.
And people are able to get tested through their primary care provider.
