[00:00:09]Salesian College Autonomous Sonada hosted a trilingual translation workshop from 10th to 17th [music] July 2026, bringing together faculty and students from Salesian College and Holy Cross College, Tiruchirappalli.

[00:00:26]The workshop commenced with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp, cultural performances, and the presence of distinguished guests, including Father Johnny Nedungatt, Father Dr. C.J.

[00:00:38]Mathew, and Dr. Terrence Mukia.

[00:00:41]The inaugural program also featured theory session one by Dr. Terrence Mukia, a lecture on translation by Dr. A. Priya, the introduction of Holy Cross College by Dr. Shirley, >> [music] >> and an exchange of tokens of appreciation.

[00:00:59]Participants also began the collaborative translation of the history of Salesian College Sonada. [music] The second day featured a lecture by Dr. C.A. Shirley Winifred on shared mythological traditions across cultures, highlighting the interconnectedness of civilizations.

[00:01:21]Participants then attended introductory Nepali and Tamil language sessions [music] before working in mixed groups to translate selected texts.

[00:01:32]The translated works were presented for review with Dr. A. Priya providing constructive feedback on accuracy, fidelity to the source text, and preserving its literary essence.

[00:01:48]The day four featured writer and translation expert Mr. Rajendra Pasha, who delivered a session on the evolution of the garden literature and appreciated the translation of Gitanjali into English and Tamil.

[00:02:05]Theory session three led by Ms. Sharon Lepcha focused on carrying culture across languages through the translation of short stories.

[00:02:16]Participants then collaboratively translated two stories from Gitanjali under Mr. Pasha's guidance and presented their work for review.

[00:02:27]The session concluded with expert feedback from Mr. Pasha and Dr. Apriya followed by a token of appreciation.

[00:02:38]On day five, renowned poet Dr. Jiwan Namdung delivered a session highlighting the close relationship between literature and translation emphasizing its role in bridging linguistic barriers.

[00:02:54]Theory session four led by Mr. Deep Raj Rai explored key concepts in translation studies with a special focus on transcreation.

[00:03:06]Participants translated selected [music] poems by Dr. Jiwan Namdung and Dr. Terence Mukia under expert guidance followed by presentations and feedback.

[00:03:18]The day concluded with a bonding session, cultural performances by the Silician brothers and students of Holy College Tiruchirappalli.

[00:03:30]On the sixth day of trilingual translation workshop, resource person Mr. Jogendar Nath highlighted the importance [music] of translation in preserving cultural terminology and conveying cultural nuances across languages.

[00:03:47]Dr. Apriya conducted [music] theory session five titled The paradox of translation the untranslatable exploring the linguistic cultural and contextual challenges of translations.

[00:04:03]Participants collaboratively translated money to Qatar and presented poems translated from Nepali into English [music] and Tamil.

[00:04:14]The translations were reviewed by Mr. Joginder Nath, Dr. A Priya and Dr. Shirley who offered constructive feedback and encouraged the participants.

[00:04:27]On 17th of July 2026, the final day of the trilingual translation workshop, principal father Dr. Babu Joseph and vice principal Dr. Terrence Mukia delivered inspiring addresses highlighting the academic significance of the workshop and emphasizing the importance of continued [music] collaboration between the two institutions.

[00:04:54]Miss Shenaz Nazneen conducted [music] the concluding theory session on translation while Dr. A Priya expressed her appreciation to all the participants, resource persons and organizers.

[00:05:09]The valedictory program featured cultural performances by the students of Holy Cross College Tiruchirappalli and Salesian College Sonada followed by the distribution of certificates and mementos.

[00:05:26]The workshop concluded with an exit meeting where participants and faculty reflected on their experiences and proposed future collaborations in seminars, reading circles, curriculum development and green studies research.
