[00:00:07]Well, good afternoon viewers. We're back working on this 19 Jeep Cherokee with the potential fuel pump problem.

[00:00:15]I've obtained a new fuel pump.

[00:00:18]Uh it was not available from the manufacturer, so I acquired a Delphi pump. That's the part number for this particular vehicle because it's an all-wheel drive, has a saddle tank.

[00:00:29]It's under the back seat, so there's there's fairly It's a fairly involved process uh to get access to the back seat. It's not just like you lift this cushion up.

[00:00:41]That would be too convenient.

[00:00:43]So, we're going to get started here.

[00:00:45]So, there's two bolts behind plastic covers with 16 mil heads in the front of the seat. There is this plastic trim beside the seat.

[00:00:59]And then there's a spring-loaded collar.

[00:01:02]You got to pry that away from this and lift this up. There's a pivot in the middle of the seat.

[00:01:09]I've taken the other side out.

[00:01:12]And uh you need to almost need a helper to lift up on the seat while you pry this spring-loaded collar out as it hooks into the position or hooks into the pivot there.

[00:01:33]So, I found if you pry that collar towards the seat away from the C-pillar and use a 1-in open-end wrench to hold it there and have a helper lift up on the seat to pull that up out of the spot in the pivot.

[00:01:56]Okay, there's two 18-mil nuts on the back of the bottom of the seat.

[00:02:03]And then these pull through.

[00:02:06]Kind of finicky on this side, but they do pull through.

[00:02:10]And here's the access cover now.

[00:02:14]This one we have to take off because there's a cross tube.

[00:02:17]And that one we have to take off.

[00:02:20]That's where the fuel pump is on the right side.

[00:02:23]So there's a transfer tube that goes across to the other side of the saddle tank.

[00:02:28]Why they didn't take it off at this end here rather than having to take the other pump out.

[00:02:37]Cuz that's a coupler there.

[00:02:41]To me that seems a more logical spot to undo the line, but Now we've got the plates off. I'm going to check voltage drop on the fuel pump circuit.

[00:02:55]Make sure we got full battery voltage to the two large wires on the fuel pump here.

[00:03:01]The two outer wires.

[00:03:05]I'm going to back pin these two wires and read the voltage there with the pump running.

[00:03:12]So we've got 40 lbs of fuel pressure. The spec is 58 plus or minus five.

[00:03:19]And I've got the meter connected to the two leads.

[00:03:29]And I got 13.43 volts there. So we don't have any voltage loss on the circuit. So I'm going to disconnect the fuel pump and make it run out of gas.

[00:03:39]So it's stalled.

[00:03:41]That means we've relieved fuel pressure, at least most of it anyways.

[00:03:46]Let's see what we've got for residual pressure in the system.

[00:03:54]>> [bell] >> 5 PSI.

[00:03:57]Now, let's take that pump out. Let's blow the top of the tank off. So, I did have to take the other pump out to unclip the line off the other pump or the other sender or whatever that is.

[00:04:08]I think it's just a transfer tube.

[00:04:12]Looking at the bottom of the tank and it looks pretty clean. I don't see any debris in there. There is another line that has to be disconnected from the bottom of this pump.

[00:04:24]Right there.

[00:04:26]It's similar to these ones here where you press the clip and slide it off, but it was in a up against the back.

[00:04:34]So, it was difficult to get to.

[00:04:37]So, let's get ready to install this new pump. It looks correct.

[00:04:42]So, there's both sending units installed.

[00:04:45]Put dielectric grease on the O-ring seals.

[00:04:50]Let's see how it starts. Check the fuel pressure.

[00:04:58]Let's go look at the fuel pressure.

[00:05:10]That's better.

[00:05:13]At least something went right today.

[00:05:16]That engine sounds like it's got some internal issues.

[00:05:25]So, I've connected to the vehicle and done a network scan.

[00:05:29]Fuel level sensor circuit I set that by having the fuel pump disconnected.

[00:05:34]Fuel system lean codes were set because of a low fuel pressure and fuel level sensor. So, I'm going to turn the key ignition off and then back on and then do a network clear.

[00:05:57]>> [music] >> Chrysler doesn't let you do a code clear with it running.

[00:06:06]So, clear DTCs.

[00:06:08]Yes.

[00:06:11]Cannot be running. I know that.

[00:06:17]It's always good to let it go with a clean slate.

[00:06:21]So, we'll take this thing for a road test now.

[00:06:28]So, we're going to try this thing.

[00:06:34]No lack of power now.

[00:06:42]This guy's going to think I'm crazy at catching up to him so fast.

[00:06:48]So, we'll call this one fixed.
