Human trafficking networks exploit vulnerable populations through deceptive recruitment promises, debt bondage, and threats against families, operating through decentralized networks that make them difficult to combat; effective prevention requires coordinated cross-border efforts involving law enforcement, social services, and community engagement to address both the trafficking methods and the psychological barriers survivors face in seeking help.

They promised salon jobs and childcare in Europe. What waited was debt, threats, and exploitation...Added:
In another trafficking route from the same era, many women from Nigeria were recruited with promises of hair salon work, child care, or restaurant jobs in Europe.
Brokers often used family pressure, fake travel help, and even ritual oaths to make the promise feel real and the escape feel impossible.
When the women arrived, traffickers took their papers, said they owed huge debts, and forced them into exploitation while threatening them and their families back home.
This system spread through loose networks instead of one big gang, which made it harder to stop. Recruiters, drivers, document forgers, landlords, and money collectors all played a part, and each person could be replaced quickly if police caught someone.
That is one reason this route lasted for years and reached several countries at once, especially through Libya and Italy, before victims removed again inside Europe.
Anti-trafficking groups later learned that rescue alone was not enough because many survivors were terrified of speaking and still feared reprisals at home.
Real progress came when police, social workers, and local communities worked together across borders.
Trafficking changes shape fast, and that is why understanding the method matters just as much as knowing the story.
