Diplomatic negotiations often involve complex trade-offs where parties may appear to make concessions on secondary issues (like reopening strategic waterways) while maintaining core positions on primary concerns (like nuclear programs), and these negotiations can be complicated by internal political dynamics and leadership structures.

Iran's Leaders Meet as US Waits on Peace Deal ResponseAdded:
Tyler, there is this hope that there will be an agreement on this one page memo.
Does it seem like we're moving in that direction?
Well, Dani, at this point, we're going to have to wait and see what Iran's response is as people familiar with the matter tell us that Iran is expected to give a response via Pakistani mediators within the next day. And this White House maintains that a deal will get done, but at least publicly, the two sides still feel very far apart. Our reporting does indicate that there are active discussions about a potential moratorium on Iran's uranium enrichment capabilities, but Iranian officials so far have maintained that they are not making any concessions regarding the country's nuclear program, at least for now. Because before we can get to to those discussions, it is our understanding that this one page, memorandum of understanding would first seek to gradually reopen the Strait Of Hormuz in exchange for The US lifting its naval blockade, which at this point, to be sure, is still very much in place. In fact, CENTCOM yesterday confirmed that the US military had disabled an Iranian flagged oil tanker that was trying to make its way through the Gulf Of Oman. And, Dani, this White House has really been, maintaining that negotiations have been complicated by fractured leadership in Iran, but we should point out some headlines crossing the Bloomberg terminal just moments ago that Iran's president says that he had a meeting with Iran's supreme leader detailing a rare public account of interactions with the supreme leader who has been in hiding since the war began. So we'll see if that yields any sort of progress or results in this because, again, at least publicly, we haven't gotten indications that the sides are getting closer to making a deal when it comes to those nuclear capabilities.
Tyler, separately, we also got some headlines this morning. This from ABC on probes over oil trades. They had gotten a lot of attention in the war in Iran about trades that seemed very well timed and well placed before action that benefited from what the president said he was doing in the country. What exactly do we know about this probe?
So ABC News putting a little bit more of a finer point on some previous reporting, including from Bloomberg News that there was a series of well timed trades between March 23 and April 21 around announcements made by both president Trump as well as Iran's foreign minister related to president Trump holding off on those infrastructure attacks and and his threats there, the, announcement of the ceasefire. And then when that when Iran's foreign minister had announced that there would be a reopening of the Strait Of Hormuz, which, of course, didn't end up happening.
Now we should say that the data obtained by ABC News does not indicate any identities behind these trades nor that anybody did participate in insider trading, but it is, adding this heightened scrutiny, particularly after we had reported that back in March, the White House circulated a memo to staff urging them not to use, private information, to make these trades, including when it comes, in particular to betting platforms. But this reporting showing that traders made a total of more than $2,600,000,000 betting that oil prices would drop right before they did, Dani.
