❌HIGH LACTIC ACID ≠ GIVE FLUID❌ A high lactic acid can mean a lot of things🤓 And several ofAdded:
A high-lactic acid does not always mean give your patient fluids. Let's take an example of a patient who's in cardiogenic shock. Yes, in that situation, the high-lactic acid is telling you that the tissues are not getting enough blood. They're not perfusing well. But, if you see that lactic acid and start loading that patient up with liters and liters of fluid, what you're doing is actually making the situation worse. You're taking a heart that's already decompensated and struggling to contract and pump effectively, and you're giving it more workload to that it has to deal with. So, when you see that high-lactic acid, take a breath, take a step back, and think about it before you just go ahead and give that patient fluids.
