California's Prop 22 mandates that gig economy apps pay drivers 120% of minimum wage (approximately $24/hour in West Hollywood) and 35 cents per mile while on an order, which creates a unique gig work environment where drivers cannot stack orders across different apps and must wait for orders to complete before accepting new ones, unlike other states where drivers can multitask between platforms.

I Tried Making $500 in Los Angeles… This Was Different (State 10)Added:
Is Gig work dead in California or is it good? Some people are telling me that it's amazing. You can make a ton of money. You can get great orders. And then there's other people telling me that it's oversaturated, too many drivers, terrible orders, you can't even make $100 in a day. So, which one is it?
That's why I decided to go to California and find out. Will I be able to make $500 in one day, in 16 hours? My usual strategy is to do Walmart, Spark, and Instacart. start off with Spark in the morning and do a lot of Costco orders, but what would happen if I do not do a single Walmart Spark order and not a single Costco order? That's exactly what happened in this shift. If you guys are unfamiliar with my series, I'm going to every single state and trying to make $500 in each state in one single day.
Yesterday, I was in Phoenix, Arizona.
And today, I'm making my way to Beverly Hills where I'll be attempting a $500 challenge. And here we go, the LA traffic. 41 minutes to go 10 miles.
We are not looking forward to this, but we are looking forward to making good money here in LA. Let's go. First order I'm seeing in this zone. $731 18 miles.
It is going all the way down to Manhattan Beach. But this is crazy.
Nobody's taking it. Like, nobody's taking it at all. Okay, somebody just took it. But this is going to be crazy.
I bro, Beverly Hills is going to be crazy.
So, at the I'm at the location where I'll be working tomorrow. I saw a couple of orders. Here are they. And I picked up a 63. I don't know if this is good for this area. I don't know how far away that is, how long of a drive it's going to be. And I have no idea how long the shop's going to take me, but let's find out. Yeah, first time inside Bristol Farms with 43 items. That was an adventure.
But I got it all. Maybe one refund, a couple of replacements. Nothing crazy.
But yeah, there's no aisles in the store. So, it's a tough shop. It was a tough shop. It took me like 43 minutes, I think, to find everything. But it's okay. It's a little practice run for tomorrow. That's the only thing that can slow me down tomorrow is the shopping speed, especially if I get orders from Bristol Farms. But hey, we're we're going to try it out tomorrow. Man, look at the price of this gas. $5.89. That's crazy, man. 40 bucks for just six gallons, man.
Hey, I picked up another order. 59. Man, I'm hungry. But I'm going to do that one last order and then going to try to do it quick. Okay, guys. Time to try out this store. This car sucks.
Much better. Time to try out Pavilions.
I don't know if there's aisles. I know Bristol Farms doesn't have aisles. I think Ralph's is like Kroger and it should have aisles, but let's see. That was much smoother than Bristol Farms. It did have aisles. So, basically, Pavilions is Safeway. I'm pretty sure Albertson Safeway is the same company.
Bristol Farms is its own thing and Ralph's Kroger. So, I think I'm going to enjoy Ralph's the most, but we'll see what happens tomorrow. It's a very good order, man. It's crazy. Like the volume is not there, but the quality the quality of the orders is crazy. Sitting in a parking garage having my dinner.
It's 1000 p.m. I'm going to go check into my hostel hostel after this. I don't know how to pronounce it correctly, but tomorrow's going to be crazy.
>> It's not bad, actually. And it's pretty cheap. 80 bucks for two nights. Way cheaper than a hotel here, that's for sure.
Yo, it's 4:18. I basically woke up at 3:30 and I couldn't sleep. Uh, it it was actually a good hostel. Like like no issues. Very very nice in Santa Monica. downtown Santa Monica. But yeah, I couldn't sleep. So, I'm going to I'm going to go to uh I think it's Gellson's. It opens at 5:00 a.m. It's like 24-minute drive from me. So, I'm going to go there, try my luck at Gellson's at 4:50, then hit up Bristol Farms at 6:00. Uh yeah, it's dead. Like, nobody's out here. Like, not a single car in the streets. I'm like the only one out here. It's crazy. But yeah, let's get to Gellson's and maybe pick up an order around 5:00 am. If not, then I mean, also, I'll save $10 on parking if I leave before 5:00 a.m. So, yeah, why not? So, yeah, parking was $13.
Let me pay. Yeah, it's because we parked for 3 hours yesterday. Well, 2 hours yesterday and 5 hours today. So, unsupported card. Let me try that again.
Oh, look at this LA traffic, man. 22 minute drive, 21 miles. Who's talking what about LA traffic? No, I'm just kidding. This is still 4:27 a.m. That's why there's no traffic. But we're going to deal with a lot of traffic today.
Yeah, I'm excited for today. My strategy is very different for this shift, for this video. Usually, I start 6:00 a.m.
at Walmart, but today I'm not even going to turn on Walmart. I'm going to be in Beverly Hills. There's no Walmarts around Beverly Hills. Like closest is probably 30 minutes away. So I might not even go to Costco today. Uh I'm going to stick in Beverly Hills. Do like orders from Pavilions, Bristol Farms, uh Ralph's. Uh what else do they have? Uh Gellson's. Uh that's what I'm going to do. Or I'm going to try to do that. I don't know. I don't know if that strategy is going to pay off. We're going to ma mainly focus on Instacart, but I'll also have Door Dash and Uber Eats on for those shopping orders. Uh Pro Shopper I think is going to come in clutch. And yeah, from working yesterday, uh it felt like there was low volume, but the quality of orders, like every single order I would get is like that's something you could take because literally you're getting paid $24 an hour just base pay on all the apps. if you're in West Hollywood. If you're in LA County, I think it's $21 an hour. So, almost every order is worth it. So, we're not going to be too picky. Uh hopefully the volume's there. Hopefully.
My goal is to try to make 600 bucks today and then with adjustments maybe touch 700. We'll see what happens. Super new. I've never been here. I've never been I've never worked in Cali. So, we'll see what happens.
All right, 4:49. Let's see if we can get something from Gellson's this morning.
Is it just me or is it super crazy how tall these palm trees are? This is crazy. I don't know. Did not get a single offer at Gellson's and now I'm at Bristol Farms.
Let's see if Instacar sends me anything.
If not, there were a couple Door Dash and Uber Eats orders that got sent to me. So, if I don't get anything by like 6:05, I'll probably start doing Door Dash and Uber. Right at 6 a.m., I got a Door Dash order. $16, like 11 items from Pavilions. Uh, we're going to run it up.
Not a single offer on Instacart yet. So, in California, because of Prop 22, I'm not allowed to stack orders with different apps or grab an order while I'm still delivering from another app, which I always do. So, that will be a disadvantage for me, and you'll see that later in the video where I'll be forced to pass up on a good order. But the advantage of working in California is the minimum hourly pay. So, you definitely want to stick around till the end of the video to find out how much I actually made with Prop 22. Oh, and I do go to Costco the next day and get a bang. I did pick up this order from Bristol Farms. It's only 12 items. Just got to get started. Just keep moving and avoid those sit times. I do need two packs of Icelandic water. I think it's this one. I hope it's this one. Yeah. Or B. Had to do a couple of replacements.
Well, or one replacement.
No, two replacements. I had to replace the milk for one of the customers and ground turkey breast for another customer. But it's all good. Should have gotten a big cart because there's two bigger packs of water. But it's okay. We just got one item left in the frozen.
Okay.
It's not bad. Pretty easy shop for only 12 items.
And yeah, two small orders, I guess.
So, let's hope to get back here by 8:00.
But I don't know how the traffic is going to be. This is definitely going to be a weird and interesting shift with no spark. Yeah, I don't know how the volume's going to be. I don't know how good of an how good of an orders we can get. Like obviously there's crazy good orders here, but it's just going to depend on can we get like at least a couple of those 70s, 80s, maybe 100. Uh yeah, it's definitely going to be a cool experience though. We got that order all delivered to the third floor. Basically, there was a gate and customer opened the gate for me. No issues.
Looking pretty decent. So, I came to Sprouts right now. You can see it up there. It's on the second floor. Uh uh it's like a 25minut drive back to Bristol Farms. So I'm going to see if I can get something here at Sprouse. There is a 43 triple, but there's 10 gallons of water.
I think I'm going to wait a little bit.
Hopefully pick up something going towards Beverly Hills.
We'll see. Yeah. So I actually took that 30 uh the $44 order from Sprouts. Yeah, it's not the best, but it's only 3 miles. All three deliveries are houses, so it's not horrible.
It's going to take me about an hour.
Yeah. Plus, it's it's actually closer from the deliver last delivery to Beverly Hills than it is from here. So, yeah.
Yeah, not the best order, but it's going to put me almost at 100 bucks for the morning right after 9:00. It's not too bad. So, yeah, simple enough for his delivery. There's the car. Pretty easy.
doing decent, but we need a banger, man.
I'm hoping for a banger. I'm gonna go grab some stuff for myself. Uh I'm not going to Costco today cuz it's 43 minutes away. I'm telling you guys, I'm not sitting today. I saw the $16 order.
We got both of the orders shopped.
It's just a small little order. Keep myself busy. And this is the haul I I got some chips, Celsius, banana, some water, chobani, yogurt drink. Yeah, gate code wasn't working, but somebody let let us in. There was like three other well, one other delivery and some housekeeping.
So, yeah, I don't know which store I'm going to go to next. I'm just I don't know.
I'm probably my plan is just to stay busy and maybe like get a banger while staying busy. Looks like I'm stuck taking these smaller orders.
I took a Uber Eats 17 going two miles. I was right inside of Sprouts, so it's only eight items. Yeah, still waiting for that banger. Internet here is bad. I just connected to the Wi-Fi, so it's much better now. But yeah, it was just not working. I got one item left. This this delight juice. And I'll be on my way. I got that order shopped.
Unfortunately, I just saw 54 Instacart going 4 miles. Very good order. But since this is California, I can't accept it. Any other state, I would have done it. I would have taken it, delivered the Uber Eats, and came back. But this is California, which sucks. It's a banger.
At least I got this $10 add-on that I'm going to grab. Got that order picked up.
I got another add-on for N bucks this time. So, I guess I'm kind of making up for not taking the 54. So, the biggest downside of working in California is you can't when you're doing a delivery, you can't like get the next one because uh apps can deactivate you because they track your movement very closely because they got to pay per hour. So, in any other state, I would have picked up that Sprouse 54 cuz it would have been 20 minutes round trip. I had to deliver the Uber and then come back. It would have been 20 minutes. That's not a problem in any other state. But here in California, I can't do that. So, yeah, I actually went offline on Instacart just so like I don't get depressed if I see a $100 order and I can't take it. But this is the these three Uber orders are pretty good. It was a 17, 10, and 9, which is like 36 bucks. So yeah, it's a bit of a disadvantage working in California, which which it's it quite is a big dis disadvantage, but we're still going to make it happen. We're still going to make as much as we can. Guys, this is perfect. Just uh parking right behind the restaurant just for delivery drivers. Yeah, let's go pick up this third order. And we got the last order picked up. Three of them right here.
Man, I got two deliveries in the same building. And I didn't grab the second one. And I'm parked super bad. It says loading zone, but it also says commercial area only. And this this stoplight. I got across a busy street.
This is unfortunate. And if I knew that two deliveries in the same building, I'd have taken those orders. That I lost like 10 minutes. Hey, I'm still getting paid 24 an hour. So, and just in case I grabbed the third order, even though it's going someplace else, but I was not repeating, I'm not coming back. So, I grabbed that one also, but it's like a 6-minute delivery. Yeah, we're crossing the street now. I don't think we got a ticket. I'll be back at Bristol Farms where I started in about 2 minutes. Uh, yeah, 0.4 miles away.
That was a good Uber Eats order. And there's a lot of these Whimo cars. Full self-driving. If you guys don't know, there's nobody in the car. It's just the car driving itself, which honestly it looks kind of futuristic. Let me try to pass it. Man, it's going fast.
Yeah. See, there's nobody in the car.
That's cool. But yeah, I'm I'm hoping for a banger, though. So, I've been sitting outside of Bristol Farms for like almost 30 minutes now. Uh, I haven't seen a single order from here.
It says batch in one to five minutes.
That's a complete lie. There's a Ralph across the street, too. I saw two orders from there, but nothing like crazy. It was just like a $23 order, double. I wasn't feeling that.
I don't know, man. It's not hitting right now. Yeah, guys. It's not looking good. I just sat for an hour. I only saw like two Bristol Farms orders. They weren't good. One was 10 miles for 28 bucks, which is a definitely not. I just picked up a 16 Door Dash. I I think I got to just start taking small orders and just Yeah, it doesn't look like I'm going to get a big order today. Maybe I will later down, but I don't know, man. It's not popping off as I thought it would. I'm here again.
Let's knock this order quickly. I I think I can deliver it before 1:00.
There's a bunch of like Lean Cuisine frozen items. So, Lean Cuisine frozen meals. So, I think I can do it pretty quickly.
First ever quadruple order I'm taking ever. It's a 48. It's not It's not that great. And yeah, it was so tough to park here. Like to find where to go, man. But I'm walking in the Target right now. And it is $6 to park, but if I spend 20 bucks, it's free. So hopefully that works. And I don't have to pay for parking. I got 11 items left. He requested two Red Bulls and it's none of these. I'll have to keep looking. Maybe next to the checkout lanes. Is there any Red Bulls here? No.
Yeah, there is. But not these. He wants Fuji Apple and the white one. I don't know if they'll have them. But yeah, this is how I'm dividing the orders. I'm going to have I have A right here. B right here. C is going to go right here.
and D's on the bottom. We do need a few items in here for customer C. I believe this is the correct one. Let's see. Yep.
And a strawberry one. I think it's this one. Yes. And these freezer pops. Pissy.
Let's go. And some shakes. I think it's this one. Wow. Don't you love that?
Yeah. Come on. Six items left. Also found the pacifiers pretty quickly. I did have to refund one item. It's a $2 item. Wait, I think I refunded two. It's a seasonal item. It's like marshmallow snowman. Like, come on. There's They don't have them. That's what the associate told me. And now I just got four items left. The two Red Bulls and like seasonal items like pool. I don't know. They don't have aisles, but store associate told me it's an E4, E5. So, I'm going to try to find that now. Oh, yeah. I found the first one. I think I found both of them very quickly. See?
Yeah. Let's go. This is for C. I think I can fit it here. Just make sure I don't crush the bananas. Almost did.
All right. And I think this is the second one. They only have one left for C. Yep.
Just going to throw it on top. And just the Red Bulls left. So, not too bad. I had to replace one of the Red Bulls. And because of that, the order is in review.
I got to wait a minute and 20 seconds.
But yeah, first quadruple order ever. Here's the order.
Yeah, just keeping it moving. Honestly, right now, all I'm hoping for is to have hit 500 after adjustments cuz it's been kind of slow today.
Heat. Heat.
So, I don't know what's actually the problem here cuz it says batch in 1 to 5 minutes. It's been the store has been red the whole time. Are there no no orders or am I just not seeing them? I don't know. Maybe I chose the wrong strategy for California. Maybe I should have stuck to Costco. Maybe I should have done Spark and Walmart. Still pretty fun to try something new.
Yeah, I just don't know. Maybe this wasn't the strategy. There's still time.
Yeah, there's still time to rescue my day, but it is already 3:16.
And I'm only at I think like 216.
I don't know, man. Definitely an experiment. I was sitting at Bristol Farms. Across the street there's a Ralph's. Got this 32. It's got alcohol, but beats sitting. Puts me almost at 250, I think. I have a feeling this delivery is going to be very, very bad. I read the instructions. It said first 25 minutes of parking free. If it takes longer, I'll pay for it. That is Why would it take longer than 25 minutes? I mean, it is two packs of water. It's a huge order, so I'm I'm guessing it's going to be very bad.
Not looking forward to it. Yeah, my delivery is that huge red building.
I don't know what I'm going to do.
All right, I'm going to call the customer and find out what I need to do.
I delivered two of the bags and I grabbed the wagon from the customer.
I'm going to go grab the heavy stuff.
You guys will tell me, see, you do need a wagon.
Yeah, this thing is clutch. But I wasn't even going to bring one with me on the flight. So, it's not like I was going to take one if I had one, which I could have bought one at Walmart or something or Costco, but hey, at least it's not that bad of a delivery as long as the customer comes back cuz she took the alcohol without giving me her ID. She said she'll go get the ID. So, sketchy for me, but we'll see. All right, that was easier than I thought it was going to be. And yeah, that took me an hour. I will be getting extra money for obviously per hour cuz it's 24 bucks per hour.
So, not too shabby. Back in pavilions, I did grab a $17 Door Dash for like six items going a mile. Staying busy.
I guess I'm just going to keep running these small Door Dash orders. Another one like 21 bucks for seven items and two miles.
Yeah.
Will I be able to take so many small orders and hit 500 at the end of the day? I don't know. I was hoping for 600 today, but that's just not going to happen.
Uh but I I still think we can make 500.
I'm definitely thinking that we can make 500 with adjustments, but I'm hoping to make 500 without adjustments. So, just going to see how busy it is. Uh I'll be taking these small orders. I'm not going to sit around waiting for something that's not going to happen.
>> Another one delivered. Man, look at these cars.
I am very low on miles today. That's the only positive thing.
So, yeah, going back to Bristol Farms.
Probably not going to get anything from there. Who am I kidding? Yesterday, I got a decent order from there, a 60 and I got a good pavilions like 64. So, I don't know what's happening today, but it's just not it. Took a small 14 from Uber Eats.
Just staying busy or trying to Does this store even have any orders?
Any good orders?
Like, it's crazy. I've been basically sitting at this store the whole day and there has been nothing. I think I've done only one Instacart order from here and it was a 38 and all the orders I see is just small orders. Be it Door Dash, Uber or Instacart. Like, there hasn't been anything like more than 30 items. I feel like I don't know.
There's one for 2.9 miles.
I don't know, man. It's 3 miles. That's pretty far.
But hey, at least that's an order from here. I'll think about it. Honestly, I'm just tired of these smaller orders.
Honestly, that's why I didn't take that 22. Yeah, I could have done it in 30 minutes, but man, I'm just tired of these small orders. Like, give me something like at least 30 bucks.
Preferably 50 or more. I don't know.
Like yesterday, I got a 59 and a 60. I don't know, man. I actually got a semidecent order from here. What was it?
42 or something? 46, whatever. I forget what it was, but you guys can see the screenshot. I'm going to I'm pretty slow in this store, but I'm going to try to knock it out as quickly as I can. There's more than 20 items of produce here, which I don't know. Kind of doing it fast.
We need five lemons. Two, three, four, five lemons.
One, two, three.
Okay, we need Kleenex.
Uh, one of these boxes for a And I'm actually getting better at this.
Like, honestly, you need you definitely you definitely need a few days at least to learn the stores. Like, I'm already much faster than I was yesterday. So yeah, I think if I redo this challenge, I could do much better.
We need Reynold Wraps uh aluminum foil.
It's the 75 square ft one. Put it in here. We need Ziploc bag sandwich.
This one also for a actually crushing this order, man. Like Okay. Kitchen bags. Okay, it's hidden.
They're hidden. There's like two left.
Man, this is nice.
Okay. And now now we're going to go.
I'm going to put you guys right here.
Now we're going to go pick up I know where this is at now because of yesterday. Well, I'm pretty sure I know where it's at.
I think it's got to be here. See, yesterday I was looking for this aisle or this stuff for forever.
But yeah, we're cruising through this now. Now look how much faster I am right now. 22 minutes for 43 items. Oh yeah.
Let's get to the checkout now.
I don't understand. Where were these orders earlier? I just got another 40.
It's not the best, but I mean, there was just none of that earlier today, man. If I can get one more like this, that would be awesome. But one step at a time, let's go shop this one.
This is beautiful sunset.
Let's knock it out. Guys, this is a crazy order. I'm still in here. Taking me so long because the customer wanted me to replace basically she ordered individuals. She wanted boxes. It was so tough replacing it. And she wanted one of these. Yeah. It was just such a pain to replace it. She said she'll tip me.
Well, and I even said I even told her, "Yeah, I've had a rough day. I would appreciate that." Uh, and said, "Lol." I don't know if I should have said that, but I did. Hey, I really need I really need a banger. I don't know how much more she'll tip. Hopefully, at least 20, but I'm still I'm trying to Okay, let me just grab the milk. Grass milk. Organic whole milk. That was a tough order, guys. I'm going to load up my car and maybe let you know what happened.
>> Oh, I'm about to get roasted in the comments for not having a wagon. Man, this is tough work, but I'm making it happen. Man, I'm tired after that. And I'm actually worried about my account since this is California.
And I took so long to shop the order.
But I mean, what was I supposed to do?
The customer was just like, man. And it's only a $25 combined tip for the three customers. So, I hope that customer at least ups the tip by a little bit. But yeah, I'm hoping to do one more order after this. We'll just see what happens. Yo yo yo, that order went up to 72. Let's go. The customer increased the tip by 25 bucks. Plus, Instacart added some heavy pay into that batch.
Man, that's a that's that's what I needed. That's what I needed. 72 bucks.
I picked up this Sprouts order for 33.
Sprouts closes at 10. I'll be there at 9:33. Have 31 items. It's going to be tough, but there's a lot of produce, which shouldn't be too bad. And there's like a lot of chocolates and like basically things of one kind. That order will put me at 465 for the day. with adjustments. I should be at 500. Man, I I can't believe I pulled it off or I'm going to pull it off. But I'm going to get to Sprouts and kill this shop. It's probably going to be my last order of the day. And that was my last order of the day. And my total earnings was $465 before Prop 22. Now, what is Prop 22 for those of you that don't know? Prop 22 is where all the gig apps are forced to pay you 120% of minimum wage. For example, the minimum wage in West Hollywood is $20, and Instacart has to pay me $24 an hour anytime I'm on an active badge. So, from the time I accept an order to the time I deliver an order, Instacart pays me $24 an hour, not including tips. And also, these gig apps have to pay 35 cents per mile driven while on an order.
And that's part of doing gig work in California. That's the big bonus. So, how much was my adjustment after my shift was over? How much was I able to make? On Door Dash, I got an extra $7.68.
On Uber Eats, it was $9.54.
And on Instacart, it was $69.12, but I did Instacart orders for three different days. And after doing some math, it turned out to be $4246.
But my time in California is not done yet. I'm heading to Costco. Yo, we're outside of Costco. Supposedly the busiest or the best Costco in the country in Marina Delray, California.
So, yeah, it's 9:49.
I don't know what to expect from here. I feel like my count my account is cooked from yesterday. I went from 40 seconds per item to 49. Yesterday was just a challenge with new stores and everything, but let's see if Costco blesses me today. I might do a couple, maybe one order, maybe two from Costco.
Depends on where where they send me.
Uh the problem with this uh is going to be like if an order is like 10 miles or like 8 miles, it's going to take so long to finish.
So yeah, let's see what happens. It's 950.
I'm very excited to see it. It is a Thursday, by the way. So, yesterday was a Wednesday. Maybe that affected the volume in quality yesterday.
53 and a 47.
53 is only four miles. It's not a horrible order.
There's another 57 going 5 miles.
Couple of solid orders, I guess you can say.
I don't know. Maybe it's not good for here.
There's an 80 going 11 miles up to Beverly Hills.
Wow.
Wow.
Yeah. Going to Beverly Hills.
There's a 49 going 7 miles also towards Beverly Hills. Nobody's taking the 80.
That is crazy. It's a different beast out here, I'm telling you. Yeah, this was probably the move yesterday.
Like, at least I could have came to Costco, grabbed an 80 to Beverly Hills or something like that, and just continued working.
Hey, it is what it is. We're just uh out here experimenting. I did pick up this 54. It's only going 2 miles. I don't know. I kind of want to see how it is.
Let's see how chaotic it is inside of it. Inside the store. Yeah, that should take me an hour, but I don't know, maybe an hour 20. I decided to cancel that order. And I got a 106. It is 16 miles, but I'mma run it. I just can't find a flatbed, which that seems like a common problem here. No flatbeds, but I'm just going to walk around next to the car returns and try to find a flatbed. So, at the end of the day, I couldn't find a flatbed. But, so I grabbed two carts and I saw this one guy do something with him. I'll show you what I did. It's actually kind of cool and you can deal without a flatbed. So, I ended up not recording almost anything at this shop.
It was crazy. The PE like checkout was fast. There was not a lot of like people wise, it's fine.
The biggest thing is no flatbeds. Like why can't they just order like 50 more flatbeds just so everybody can have one?
So, I had to do this, which is Yeah, it's just crazy, man. But we made it work. It's a 28m minute drive to the first customer, which isn't even too bad.
I looked round trip. It was hour 15. So, I think I can get it done. Like, basically, it's a 2-hour batch, I guess you can say.
If under normal circumstances.
Yeah, I did see people pre-shopping their orders and stuff like that.
So, yeah, it's just wild. Tons of Instacart shoppers. I mean, it is a profitable place. So, let's break down my shift.
Yesterday, I made $524.99 working 16 hours for $32.81 an hour. And the crazy part, I only drove 95 miles. That's $553 a mile. That is absolutely crazy. And only 23 bucks on gas. This is by far the least amount of miles I spent in a 16-hour shift. So on Door Dash, I made $78.86.
On Uber Eats, I made $71.80.
And on Instacart, I made $374.33.
That was my income per app in the 16- hour shift on Wednesday with Prop 22. I parked pretty far from Costco, but there was absolutely no issue finding a spot.
There's plenty of spaces in the back, and I got myself a burrito, a taco. I'm back at Costco.
Uh we're going to hopefully grab one order going north somewhere and head head on to my next state. So, I sat at the Costco for about hour and a half.
And uh I saw a 58 I should have taken because it was going the direction I needed to go. But it is what it is. I decided to just leave cuz I got to get to my next state and don't want to be driving in LA around like 5:00 p.m.
which there's still plenty of traffic.
I'm stuck in traffic right now. But yeah, we're going to our next state.
California was weird. That's all I'm going to say. It was weird. It's unlike anywhere else I've done gig work, but you can still make money here. So, yes, to answer my question, I can make $500 in California. Yes, I was expecting to make a little bit more, maybe 600, maybe even beat the record, but it just didn't happen. I need to learn the stores. I was pretty slow at shopping some of these stores, and it's a different animal. I have to get better at it. I'm sure if I were to go to California again, I would do much better. But overall, it was still a solid shift.
State number 10 is complete. It slides into seventh place.
