If you have iron deficiency anemia, which means your hemoglobin's really low and you know the ferritin's really low, there are several ways that you could try to increase that. One of them would be to iron tablets, which cause constipation, and then there's IV iron. Probably IV iron is the best way to go, but can be costly. Insurance [music] may not pay for it. Now, there are some other things I want to go over with you about like so what about doing liver? So, doing a little AI search or and between the different types of liver out there, it looks like chicken liver is actually the highest concentration of iron per gram.
So, I would probably go with chicken liver more than beef liver. The other thing you might hear about these desiccated or dried out capsules of liver, so they do sell those. That's another way that you can ingest liver.
[music] The other thing is this thing called an iron fish. So, this came up in clinic the other day and and one of my patients or my staff brought this up. I did some research on it and there's actually a study of using an iron fish. So, you buy this thing called an iron fish and you cook in it and then some of that iron gets shaved off and gets in your food and how effective is that? Well, first of all, it's a non-heme iron and it's poorly absorbed. First of all, heme iron in itself is poorly absorbed.
>> [music] >> So, when you take a capsule, I like to do the Fusion Plus ones what I recommend my patients. You're if it has 65 mg of iron, you're only going to absorb 6 mg, 10%. So, the this this metallic or iron non-heme iron, you will absorb less than that. And they did a study on it and it did not make a change in the woman's in the group of women's hemoglobin. So, I don't think it's a real option like sprinkling basically metal iron into your food. I don't think that's a legit way of actually increasing your your hemoglobin and and curing your anemia.
