Successful YouTube channels require clear audience definition, compelling content packaging (titles and thumbnails), and consistent value proposition; creators should narrow their niche, focus on viewer needs rather than just their own interests, and ensure their content provides unique value that differentiates it from saturated markets.

Reviewing YOUR YouTube Channels (for FREE!)Added:
This is your weekly YouTube channel audit live stream. All you need to do is use the correct link in the description, fill out the form, and we'll consider your channel for review.
That's right, channel reviews are free, but you can send us a super chat and watch us discuss your question live on air. If you submit your channel for review, expect the following. We will share with you our knowledge, experience, and passion as fellow YouTube creators. I want to give a massive shout out and thanks to our moderators who do an awesome job every single live stream. And that's your onboarding done. What channels have you brought us this week?
Except your onboarding is not done cuz we're going to repeat the instructions a few times today. How's it going everybody? Welcome back to another session of channel reviewing where today we'll be looking at your channels. Uh yesterday, last week we looked at your channels. The week before that we looked at your channels. This week we're going to do it again. That's kind of how we do it every Tuesday. Sometimes Wednesday, mostly Tuesdays. So, welcome. If you haven't submitted your channel yet, you should probably do that. And if you said, "Well, I did that last week."
This awkward. We cleared the form. It's deleted. It's gone. Poof. So, you're going to need to do that again. Uh, while you do that, we'll introduce our two co-hosts today. Starting with Tech.
>> Hey, what's up? What's up? What's up?
>> What's going on, Dan?
>> How are you?
>> Just good things. I can't complain.
>> Excellent. Well, thanks for being here once again and we'll bring in >> Rob.
>> Yo, everybody, welcome once again to our house. We hope you're going to have a wonderful time here.
>> Just a big shout out to anybody in the UK right now. Let us know in the chat if you are in the UK because >> we are going through the hottest May on record. If you >> temperatures right now are 35°. Now, before you two go, huh? You got to remember we're doing some currency exchange here from Fahrenheit to Celsius. So, 35 Celsius is double the number to 70 and then add on another 30° and that's what it is in Fahrenheit. So, like 100 degrees here, which is unheard of.
>> Crazy.
>> I made a a very good decision getting air conditioning last year.
I I was gonna say, yeah, let us know if you live in the UK. Except they probably can't. Their fingers have melted to their keyboards at this point.
>> Yeah. Yeah, it is. Uh >> sorry to hear that. Uh stay safe everybody for real. Uh gosh, drink water. Um all right. Well, uh everybody's introduced. We can dive in, show you how this works. If you're new here, and usually a lot of people are, um don't ask in chat for a channel review. we we won't read it and the mods typically just time you out for it. Um, use the forms down below and I'll show you those forms right in a minute. Uh, we'll pull up the channel here. We have two forms. We have a non-gaming form and we have a gaming form. And so I picked some channels early on both of these forums to look at first today and we're going get into random selections in a little while. Uh, so we will start with Bitwise who has 420 subscribers, 123 videos currently, pretty much all shorts except for one video >> and we look at their form and they say their audience is coders and coding.
Their biggest obstacle right now is not being able to get people to watch educational coding videos and they want they're asking what kind of long form videos they should make. And I never like to take on challenges like this where I'm like I don't want to tell you what to make.
>> But I had some ideas when I looked at their channel and I thought y'all might as well. So here they are. First impressions.
>> So shortswise they are currently posting once a week. That's right. With some breakout videos. You know we often talk about the the seed audience with shorts which is about 1500 views. Couple here which have 7 and a half thousand 4 and a half thousand. That's good to see. But I guess ultimately, Dan, they want to transition from here to long form content. And just remind me, they posted one video a day ago. So, you know, welcome to this aspect of content creation.
>> And uh, you know, it has a couple of views to kick us off. So, >> it's a channel that has foundations to kind of dip their feet in the YouTube water, so to speak, with a hundred shorts. Uh, yeah. I think getting into long form if that's what you want to do ultimately is the right decision. The question now is where do they start and do we establish that from looking at their shorts to understand like what type of theme vo tone or is it going to be completely different when they hit um long form content?
>> I think long form is probably the way to go. when they used the word educational or education, I was like, "Okay, so we have kind of an interesting crossroads here because like I see them doing all these memes on shorts and they're like coding related, but they're that's not going to like draw an audience trying to learn how to program, >> but then you look at their long form video, which seems a little more serious. It's like, okay, now we're like teaching, you know?" So, I I'm interested in looking at this. We could look at some shorts, too.
>> Yeah. Can we just watch one of their shorts just to try and understand how educational versus entertainment meme there is there are in these?
>> Maybe like this one. Coding now versus >> Yeah, sure.
>> Okay.
Okay. So, it's just a meme song.
And I guess that was it.
>> Oh, wow. That was very short. Good.
>> Yeah, it's really short.
>> Yeah. Uh, and then there's one with 22,000 views.
Malcolm in the middle.
>> Uh, we can't hear anything, I don't think, Dan. Just let >> Sorry. Well, it's okay. Well, you have captions. Uh, >> yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> I'm mute. But yeah, it's everything you're hearing. It's just the audio from the show. Um, there's no extra meme sounds in there or anything like that.
Um, so yeah, it just seems like coding memes and uh stuff like that.
>> Yeah, I think they should probably think about who they want to make it for versus just the category of content that they want to make because coding is so broad just like everything. So I think and they probably have it internally like the type of person that they have in mind but I think getting clear on what type of coders they're making it for. What is their level of coding? What is their main problem? I think that'll give them clarity on what their long form would look like or should.
>> Yeah, I think so too. Should we take a look at their first long form video?
In this video, I'm going to be walking you through a mini Python project where we are going to create a simple textbased hangman game. Now, this is going to be a relatively simple project, beginner friendly, a great way to practice your Python skills and potentially learn some new things about the Python language. That said, >> okay, so first of all, great that you're getting in front of camera like you demystifying the faceless aspect of your content. That's brilliant. And you know, for your if this is your first attempt, I'm seeing like there's a bit of authority there. There's like it was a developing of a charisma. All of that's cool. Uh the one thing that was missing there, like I think it was a really sharp quick introduction was maybe just showing the final product somewhere uh in the first few seconds as a tease, but other than that, yeah, for the for their first long form video, can't really complain.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. I'm really impressed. I I was not expecting that at all going from like the shorts to the long form and it's the this the all the meme stuff is gone.
It's like dead serious like, hey, we're going to learn how to do this thing. Um, and you're already getting views, too, from just one one day after posting this. They they have the screen zoomed in real nice. We can see what the heck is going on. They're in they're on camera still throughout. And yeah, I guess the biggest thing for me is like whenever I've attempted to learn anything about code, uh it it really depends on having like a good instructor. Uh because oftentimes what I want to do, and I'm sure a lot of people are like this, they want to just see what you're doing and type it in themselves. And that's a way to learn, but I I need what you're showing me explained to me. So it's beginner friendly. Are you going to explain the concepts of like everything you're doing as you're going? Like just be thinking about when you think about beginner friendly be thinking about somebody who's never touched VS Code before like they don't know they don't know the difference between Python and C like >> beginner friendly and as long as you keep that audience in mind making videos like this I think you're going to set yourself up for success.
>> Isn't C a musical note done? Are you getting your lines?
>> It's yes C and the pound sign. Does that not >> I don't know. I'm just trying to confuse you.
>> We need Bitwise to tell us. This is what I'm trying to tell you.
>> I don't know. Java >> Flash >> I think too like and know I there's a balance to this but like I didn't expect them to be so young. So I think and I'm I'm a hypocrite because I do this all the time but I think there's a way where you can also let us know like who you are. Like Callaway is really good at this. If you watch a Callaway video, he will give context to what he's talking about, but then also give context to his journey with what he's talking about.
And so when you're dealing with people who don't know you, who may even be skeptical, having some type of context of who you are and your relationship to the subject could be good to have for uh new viewers.
>> Dan, can you just uh go back to 18 seconds because let's just find out if there is because like we didn't really Yeah. to just play from there. See if he does uh allude to any of that. text editor, you should follow along and try to tweak the code yourself to have your very own hangman game. Anyway, enough yapping. Let's start coding.
>> All right, so they didn't say you're right there, Tech. They didn't kind of introduce themselves and you know, it could be that argument of, hey, hey, let's learn how to code with me. You know, I'm I'm young here, but like I want to learn just as much as you. And the final thought I had here is just in terms of their very first video, the fact that they've titled it creating a simple hangman game, I think limits the reach. Just imagine if it was titled >> code your first game in Python in six minutes.
>> So like you're removing the idea of it being Hangman. It's just like, oh, I can learn how to code a game in a very short amount of time. I think that's again just more approachable to the audience.
Again, other than that, like all of this is like 10 out of 10 for for effort and execution on their first video.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. I I completely agree. The only thing I was going to say about the hangman aspect is that the thumbnail is just like it's not really doesn't remind me of hangman too much. Like I can kind of see the the posts and the the little the little guy, but like all these other elements you have in the thumbnail are kind of blocking it and the background is kind of busy. So, I was going to give a general thumbnail critique, but I I agree. I think if you would just made it more like, yeah, code a game with me in six minutes, kind of like what Rob suggested, you wouldn't even have to say it's hangman. It doesn't matter. There's there's a lot of games out there, you know? There's no way that you're not worried about the search of like, okay, I want to know how to specifically program a hangman game. No one's really looking for that, right? They just want to learn how to program. So, the game is a little bit less relevant in this case.
And fun fa fact fact um at the end of our meetings here at Vid IQ we don't play hangman but we do play another word game called Wordle and uh we're we're indoctrinating tech into into how the game works and um yeah it's proven fun like I wish maybe we should do a Wordle at the end of this live stream let us know in the comments if you want us to do that >> we have to close chat if we do >> and and they are serious about Wordle it's like uh Uh, the NBA product.
>> It's It's pretty toxic. Uh, >> what was that? Something fell down. I don't know what it was. Oh, see that's how hot it is. The the Bluetooth melted.
>> Your 3D prints are melting right now.
>> Put it up as you load up the next channel.
>> Okay.
We'll be looking at a gaming channel next. Uh, so they describe their target audience. It's actually we need Rob to see all this too. So, uh we'll start by just introducing the channel. Uh it's Coward Gaming 2.
Uh 100 subscribers as of recently. Uh 56 videos. Congrats on them.
>> Congrats. Uh and they are playing BeamNG.
Now, uh we look at their form and they say their target audience would be people who like B&NG and are 30 13 to 30 years old. Pretty wide demographic there.
>> That is a wide demographic. But I appreciate that this is this is what we are looking for by the way when you fill out the form like >> you know what it makes me feel like it makes me feel like YouTube is reading this form and so they need to make sure that their content is not made for kids.
>> Uh biggest obstacle right now is not having people watching videos for very long >> and it wants to focus on their hooks titles and how the videos are >> hooks thumbnails titles all that stuff.
So here we go. Beamg. My first question was, is this game still like on people's radar? Is this like a popular game still?
>> Beam.
>> So, uh, why B&NG drive is so awesome?
It's four years ago, two years ago, 11 months ago.
>> Let's filter by, uh, last month, Dan, and check.
>> Vid IQ tool is showing there's a decline over time, I think.
So upload date.
>> Yeah, I can just show you everything.
Recently >> got lost in the back rooms an hour ago.
>> So this >> be fine. Yeah. Uh >> look, there's a out here for a channel with 10,000 subscribers, 24,000 views.
>> Why does it feel empty?
>> So there is uh still an audience here.
>> Mhm.
>> But big channels uh are covering it.
>> Yes.
>> Still.
>> Oops. Uh so that's good. That's good news. So, this channel kind of prides themselves on doing like challenges and stuff and their latest video is an outlier for them.
>> Yeah.
>> Post a day ago, 158 views, cops, but I use a wingen uh in BNG.
I guess my question for some of these titles are like, I don't really know what this means >> and I don't it's probably because I don't play the game, but also it doesn't it feel like this is just a type of car, right? So like the challenge is still a little bit lost on me like the language there. Also I became a cop in beamg got 445 views. It's not a bad video in terms of performance for this channel but it it is kind of like my next question is and like uh to to what end you became a cop?
>> Yeah maybe that is enough though Dan if you understand the game could be the equivalent of saying I stick to the driving rules in Grand Theft Auto like I stop at every traffic light and whatnot.
May maybe this is relatable to the audience >> and I guess >> the criminal cop aspect must be significant. So I'm not going to beat him up too much on that. We but you are right in saying like for accessibility to all there is that barrier to entry regarding it. I just want to notice a note here by the way uh branding here I think is pretty strong like they're using consistent text and fonts and there seems to be a consistency in the just the look of the thumbnails that the cars are in motion and there's either jeopardy or action or calamity going on and so I want to credit them for that as well and final thing for me we just hit 100 subscribers view counts aren't bad to me >> the That seems to be pretty strong, especially being just 50 videos into this as well.
>> Yeah. Yeah. It's their last like handful of videos, it seems like they're hitting over 100 views, a lot more.
>> Yeah. Um back here they had some, but oftentimes they like a whole row of videos here without 100 views.
>> Oh, look at that. They got rid of red textes on the fullness as well. Well done.
>> Good. Good.
>> Well done.
>> Yeah. Um, I do feel like the packaging could be a bit more accessible. Like the the thing I always think about is like or just assume that always assume nobody cares. So it's like what could you do to make them care. So if you are doing a challenge in the game, my assumption, my approach would be I would just assume they don't care. So it's like how in your packaging can you add some type of twist to it to make it more accessible for a larger audience? So even if people who only play this game watch, how could you package in a way that would kind of welcome in a broad a broad audience to get are more visible?
Like if if this if this was on a bigger creator's channel, then maybe this would be more compelling to see a bigger creator do these type of things. But are these ideas alone compelling? If I'm scrolling through YouTube and I just got done watching a, I don't know, a fish video and this pops up, would it cause me to stop and click on it? Even if I am watching the game, I don't know.
>> Maybe Dan, it's worth doing just a search for beamg cop.
>> Yeah, let's see. Because that my question is, yeah, is this a thing people can just do or is this like a mod? like it's a special kind of like I don't know two years ago.
>> So I think there's there's enough videos here to suggest that the idea of being a cop or cops in the game has intrigue and interest >> and their channel right now is being dominated by that topic. So again I feel as if they have the inkling of something going right here. Um, why don't we watch one of these videos to see if like the hook can provide a bit more context for us. Uh, Dan, I say let's go with I became the cop in BMG. And let's see. We can we can answer the question of well, so what? Why is why is that important to me?
>> He had a Oh, he's apprehended. Oh, he's been How are you STILL ON THE ROAD, DOG?
This is some Tom foolery. And BBG, I have the sheriff. I approve of the use of tom foolery.
>> Yeah, that could have been a lot of words and I was worried to have a pause, but uh tom foolery is good.
>> Tom, baby. Oh, I'm I'm I'm the I'm a cop. Um h where is this van at? THERE'S THE VAN. THE VAN is escaping. We got a pit maneuver.
>> So, not much of an intro. We got a little bit of like a coming up on and then today I'm going to be a cop >> and that was about it.
So, I I think this is where I would say for like challenge videos that I watch, I I always notice that they put in a little bit of extra effort in terms of the challenge itself. So, >> you became a cop. Okay, cool. It seems like the community is intrigued by that.
>> Are you trying to apprehend a certain amount of criminals in X amount of time?
>> You know, something simple like that would bring me into the story a little bit. It doesn't have to be overly complex or over the top. just a little bit of something to kind of like set the tone for the rest of the video because right now it's like a chaotic opening of like you stopping somebody then I get like the briefest intro and then we're already back to chasing somebody and so it kind of feels like a montage is what I'm about to watch. It doesn't feel like a challenge video like your your channel about section is pitching like I make challenge videos. So, if you're going to do stuff like this, I think even like the smallest attempt at like a story of like I'm going to see if I can apprehend this many criminals or I'm going to give myself 10 minutes to see how many people I can stop. That that alone tells it already starts to like build a narrative like okay, now I know what they're doing and now I know why they're chasing this person. I know that the time is ticking and like they have to get them quickly, you know? It adds a little bit more suspense.
>> Yeah. Yeah, something like I became a cop and broke beam ng. Just something that adds a a little bit more spice on the I think that'd be good.
>> I actually like this intro. It was pretty uh crazy and chaotic.
>> Yeah, I always love when a game glitches and you can use that for content.
>> Uh what was that? Rob >> said lots of energy and charisma.
>> Yeah, definitely >> show the signs of a unique creator >> and why people are probably returning.
Yeah. So, yeah, well done. I mean, and listen, your channel's picking up traction. I definitely would not uh, you know, worry yourself if you're asking us like, oh, like my titles, my thumbnails, like, no, you're doing good. You're you're putting in the reps, and we can already see there's been an improvement from just just here, you know, >> uh, and you're doing a good job. I think, >> you know, it's just a matter of continuing. You are uploading quite frequently and that that's probably fine as long as you're doing okay with that and you can handle that. But I would say just like your videos are short. If there's a larger concept you've been putting off because like I need to upload, you know, every other day. How am I supposed to do that? I would just encourage you to allow yourself to do that and take those swings. It's it's okay to like break up your schedule a little bit if it's for something you want to try.
>> I don't know if that's something you want to do, but I'm just noticing the cadence here is it's rather high.
There's a lot going on.
All right. Well, shall we take a quick break from channels? I know Rob, you've been itching to talk about games.
>> Yeah. So, like techie, you've been on this live stream a couple of times, but I don't think any uh when I've been here, and let's be honest, um I like to take things in a certain direction, which doesn't necessarily follow channel auditing. And so, this is what you're going to have to deal with next. Button mashing hearts collide.
In this corner we take the ride from 8bit lands to the galaxy far gaming corner is the brightest star.
Well, the first bit of housekeeping is uh tech you were substituted there by Jeff, but I think by the next time you're on, we'll make sure that you you have your own AI generated introduction to >> you don't have to do that.
>> Okay.
>> And what we do here is, you know, YouTube is hard. The grind is real. We all need to disconnect from YouTube every once in a while. And for a lot of us here, it's video gaming. Like, what have you been playing to disconnect from YouTube? But at the same time, for a lot of you, it's not gaming. It could be reading books, touching grass, hiking, playing music. Just let us all know in the chat right now, how have you been disconnected from YouTube so that you can recharge your creative batteries.
>> And Dan, we'll start with you.
>> Uh, so yeah, I'm all over the place right now. So, I got the new Lego Batman game and it is amazing. I'm Batman. It's awesome. It's just >> I've never seen you do that with your eyes before. That was That was kind of weird. You kind of went I'm just You went It is amazing. I don't I've never seen you flicker your eyes like that before.
>> Yeah, I could do that.
>> That's impressive.
>> Now I can't >> on command.
>> I used to be able to until a minute ago when you brought it up.
>> So there's that. And then I I got my new AYn Thor, which is just this gray rectangle.
>> This thing on it. This thing is awesome.
This is the best. Um, it's the best thing I own.
>> A retro gamer's delights.
>> Yes. And >> what is that?
>> So, it's an AY and Thor. It's a dual screen Android device that I just want to hold on.
It can play just about anything.
Yeah. And it's awesome. It's the best. I can even install Steam games on it.
>> Crazy.
>> Yeah.
>> It's like It's like if Nintendo continued to evolve the DS Light. this is where it would be now. Um, but you can play more than Nintendo games on it.
Um, as long as you own them, of course.
>> Yeah, I've been setting up a lot of stuff. I can like literally take my discs and like rip them and play them on this device. It's really cool.
>> I have a whole setup.
>> What's your favorite favorite game so far, Dan, of what you've been playing on the Thor?
>> Uh, I'm still obsessed with Pokemon.
It's pretty sad.
>> Just playing Pokemon on another device now, basically.
>> But it's been fun to tinker with. I have all my saves synced up between my my computer, my Steam Deck, and this thing.
And it's awesome. I'm I'm just I'm tinkering like nuts. That's really the game is just tinkering.
>> All right, I'll keep it simple. Yes, Dan, I also have Lego Batman Legacy Dark Knight, whatever it's called. But uh as we kind of joked I think in another Vid IQ meeting, I'm one of those people who bought the deluxe version. So I I get it now, but I have other games I need to play first. So I won't be playing on the Lego Batman for another few weeks. And ironically, it's because I'm playing on Batman uh Arkham Knight, the final game in the previous trilogy. And oh, it's chef's kiss, but you know, there could be an argument that it's too big, it's too long. Like a lot of the missions you do so many times that maybe I'm getting a bit of Batman fatigue at the moment, but man, what a game from a decade ago, which is incredible.
Incredible.
All right, this is now your debut self-indulgent corner tech. whatever self-indulgences you have been enjoying over the last week, let us know.
>> All right, so this is funny because I actually pond my PlayStation >> so I could focus more on YouTube only then to not focus on YouTube and watch old episodes of Dexter. So I'm about to go get my PlayStation back. But that is that has been I said I need to focus and I need to be to get my PlayStation back.
So, I pond it so I can focus on YouTube and instead of focusing on YouTube, I started watching Dexter all over again.
>> That that's now two words I never thought I'd hear on uh Vid IQ live stream. Tom Foolery and pawned uh device. I understand what it means cuz like I think what we we we say traded in if we had taken it to a game shop here, we we trade it in for for cash or like more games. Yeah. Well, so you're going to buy back your um gaming client.
>> Okay, then listen. Don't follow my life choices, but I pond it so I can get it back because if you pond it, then you basically just pay them to hold it and then I could just pay to get it out. But my thought process was I need to lock in. Let me pawn it and then I'll get it back. But instead, Squirrel, I just started watching Dexter and I'm like I went from season one, I'm now on season six and uh >> I just finished my first full watch of that. It's great.
>> Oh, you did? Yeah. Yeah. It's It's incredible.
>> So, I've got >> I've got to remember this for the AI version of Tech Next week, which is uh horn the games console to watch Dex all of Dexter, right?
>> Yeah. I haven't walked in the full Dexter attire to the pawn shop holding a PlayStation with like blood all over him.
>> But now I want my PlayStation. I think I'm go back and get it.
>> So maybe next time I I'll have a game.
>> But I was playing WWE way too much WWE.
And then and then I think I saw um you know one of these uh bro get focused YouTube videos and I was like you know >> oh damn we should do a search on YouTube.
>> Bro get focused video.
>> Everybody has their own shirts here.
Like I think Dan's shirt is uh I don't want to be a fossil snob. Uh that was your t-shirt, wasn't it? Uh, yours is going to be uh, bro, get focused.
>> Yeah, it did work. It lasted for about a week and then I was, you know, when Dexter >> Anyway, Dan, where were we? This is your live stream.
>> Yes. Uh, thank you all for sharing your self-indulgences as well. Uh, take a break from YouTube once in a while. I'm a big advocate for that. And, uh, yeah, helps recharge your brain. So, Jason's Twisted Adventures, the next channel we're looking at. And uh according to their form here, their target audience, their channel topic, life in Orlando, Florida over 50.
>> Biggest obstacle right now on YouTube worried about thumbnail and quality.
>> Thumbnails quality. And what part of your channel focus on? Thumbnails in the first 30 seconds.
>> So there it is. 1,000 subscribers. A thousand videos.
>> Oh, nice. Well done.
And >> so I guess the first question we have to ask here is we have a thousand subscribers but view counts a dozen or less.
>> Can we just sort by most popular and see if there's anything that really took off here with a long form content?
>> So a few from over a year ago with thousands of views and then what about shorts? How are we doing in shorts?
>> Popular.
So most of them are just hitting the um thousand view ceiling and then a couple that are in the tens of thousands. But very recently something has just hit a wall here, hasn't it?
>> Yeah.
So I've dabbled in some of this content, not as a creator, but as just a viewer, an enjoyer of it. And right away, like the reasons I wouldn't click on these videos would be just the titles themselves. like getting away from the thumbnails for a second which we can talk about. Walking the Universal Garden Walk from Canada Bay to uh Portino Bay. I don't know how to say that. Sorry.
>> Let's go to Universal Studios Orlando 226. Camp Jurassic complete walkthrough.
So, it's just I'm just going to kind of like walk around these areas. There's just not there's not a lot to sink my teeth into. And the reason I like watching this content is because it's always interesting to see these part these parks and these places develop.
Like the whole point of these places is that they continue. It's like a living organism. They continue adapting it and changing it to the times. And it's always really cool to see even the smaller stuff like if a new booth opens up at Disney like there's someone that's going to like go check it out and like I think everyone has a preferred creator to go watch that kind of stuff. So, I think I would like to see it I would like to see like a little more specificity in the titles and thumbnails just as a as a viewer of this content so I know what I'm getting into other than hey, I'm walking around Universal today.
>> Yeah, there's very much a what aspect to this packaging. Like this is a what, but there is no evidence of a why to make me care or be intrigued. And in addition to that, like when we're thinking about the target audience, it feels as if they may have a unique perspective in that they're of a certain age and generation and you would typically think with theme parks, it's families or uh you know 20somes, 30omes who are reliving their youth, whereas this person can maybe offer a unique approach, but we don't see any of that evidence in the packaging currently.
>> Yeah. Yeah. And I think a lot of this content can become very utilitarian, which is like, >> yeah, >> if I'm going to Universal Orlando Florida, then I will see a video, but it's not a reason for me to subscribe and watch your next video. Definitely, if it's all around the same place. So, I think even though it sounds like businessy and cheesy, you do have to think about what is the value prop of your channel. like what does your channel do for a viewer that would would cause them to return each week and really each day if you I mean you you post it kind of frequently so like what would be the the reason that they will have to watch every video of yours.
>> So to sum up there creator I think what we're saying is before we even look at the thumbnails and the hooks maybe the ideas and the titles are lacking that spark >> to differentiate yourself. Now, let's move on to her thumbnails, which seem to me like often freeze frames from their walking tour with a logo slapped onto it. And so, again, it's just showing a why without really necessarily any interest. I think Dan, you were saying here that maybe just picking something specifically of interest, whether it's the cost of a ride or or the cue or like somebody's emotional reaction to that ride >> might again just make it more appealing to the to the viewer as they're swiping through the feed and the homepage.
>> Yeah. I I also want to talk about the titles, too. I I really don't like the all caps titles. And what's interesting is out of these six videos here, the one with the most views is the one where the the case seeing is normal.
>> Yeah, it's a simple observation, Dan, but you're right.
>> It could that could be an outlier, but yeah, I just don't it make there it's hard to read when everything is all caps. It feels like none of it is worth like reading, you know? But if you just made one word all caps, it's just the title flows better with my eyes. I could just kind of see like, you know, goodbye all caps to the lost continent, Universal Islands, event island of adventures. That that could be like one way to think about it.
>> Can we just scroll down and see if the thumbnail with them on? Look at that them where they are in the thumbnail.
That's an outlier as well.
>> Uh so that might be something to test like you are including yourself. So I guess there's evidence there that you are taking people on your personal tour of this place.
>> Mhm. Yeah. And that and this is a more specific topic too, so appreciate that.
>> Shall we watch one of these?
>> Action Kingdom. Yeah. Uh, which one?
>> Well, let's scroll to the top. Let's um pick one of the most recent ones. Uh, let's go to Universal Studios Orlando 2026.
>> All right. This one's 41 minutes. It's a long one for them.
>> Let's watch the whole thing. Well, >> we'll Yeah, we got time.
>> Strap in.
Buckle up.
These must be a nightmare to record because of all the copyright music that's just flitting around everywhere.
>> Yeah, I've always thought about that, too.
>> Anyway, no, there's no voice over narration here, Dan, is there at all?
It's just >> a camera strapped to their chest or their heart and they're they're walking around.
>> Let's uh try a shorter one to see if it's >> Let's see. This one with them in it is probably a little more talky, right?
>> Well, I hope so.
Apparently, no.
>> Okay. So, the other reason I like watching these videos is because of the the people like talking to me while they're while they're at the park, too.
I I do really appreciate somebody like getting out of their car in the parking lot, walking up to the gate, being like, "So, today I'm at Universal and I'm going to be checking out the new, you know, whatever it is they added, so on and so forth." So, I I mean, your face is in the thumbnail and 50 in Alone at Walt Disney. Like, when I see a title like this, I'm like, "Someone's going to be giving me their perspective." Is this also kind of a walking tour video? I'm kind of missing that human element to it.
>> Yeah. really should be establishing right now. Oh, are they going to talk?
>> I think they're going to talk.
>> Well, Disney World haven't been the Magic Kingdom in 2026 at all. So, >> why not? Let's go enjoy a beautiful day.
>> Okay, this is more what I was hoping and expecting like when when we came across the channel.
>> I think the mic quality could be better.
Uh, I'm hearing just as much leaf crunching as I am uh them talking. I think just a something a little bit better.
>> The establishing shop, car park or parking lot. Come on now.
>> Oh, go ahead.
>> I was just going to say and and this may not be the case for him, but this did get me thinking this. It's like I think sometimes as creators we forget that YouTube is a service to the viewers. So sometimes when it's like, hey, if you have access to the part, I think sometimes as creatives, we think, hey, it'll be cool if I just show everyone my day. But since YouTube is a service to the viewer, you still have to say, how can I make this compelling? Well, how can I make this interesting? How can I start off this with with letting them know it's not just come along with me?
you still have to take this idea that you have and craft it into something that is worth watching. And again, not saying he's doing this, but it it it made me think about this versus assuming that people will be interested in it just on the context of of what it is.
And so, yeah, I just think as creators, just remember that YouTube is a service to the viewer. So, you still have to put in the work, the effort to strategically think through how do you make this compelling?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, cuz the words they use in the video are why not why not spend a lovely day at Walt Disney World. Like that that is where I would have stopped and said wait like what could I what could I be showing them here that's more specific cuz like why not? Let's just hang out together. You can still do that in the video. Sure. Like that can still be part of the vibe. I I always like that vibe, especially in these types of videos. But I like I haven't been here in all of 2026, so I thought why not?
like, well, what is there anything going on that you heard about that you're excited to go see? Like, just that again, like I go back to that that one thing just to keep me as a viewer. Give me something to look forward to. Like, I heard they just got this new churro.
Like, I really want to try it. Like, you know, and then like make the video build up to that >> thing that's going to attract a new churro. Oh my goodness.
>> Yeah. I got this new >> a ride. A log flume churro ride. I think >> yes, I'm going to take it on the log flume. Yeah, >> I'm going to try not to get it wet.
>> The the churro challenge. Can you imagine if we started that trend over the summer?
>> Now I want to uh So I'm just trying to demonstrate. It could be simple. It could be like even just something like that. So I have something look forward to in the video like oh they did say they're going to try that like newuro or something.
>> But right now it's just kind of like a you know leave whenever you'd like. I I figured why not? I'm going to record.
You don't have to stay. That's what's kind of like doing it for me in terms of where this advice is coming from.
>> All right, Dan, if you can go back to the channel for a second, uh, tech, you've earned yourself one of these.
>> That's a knowledge bomb for describing YouTube as a service to the audience, which I love as a as a catchall phrase.
>> And you being uh one of the coaches here at VidIQ in a in a previous life. Um, we talked about many things here for Jason's twisted, what was it called then? Twisted adventure.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, if you, if you were to maybe help this career, like maybe join the coaching program and think like what should I what should I tackle first of all of the things we talked about today? Um, tech, what might that be for this channel?
>> It would be who is your avatar and what is your promise to them? And I think like a lot of again a lot of times as creators we think from our own perspective the type of content that we want to make but we need to think through who are we making it for and what do they need even the people viewing the live stream right they here because there's something that they're looking for and then maybe over time you know you kind of enjoy the the channel but you really need to I think every creator needs to start thinking through who is who is it that I'm making this content for and then what is my promise to them. So the first thing I would kind of walk them through is thinking through who his avatar is. A lot of us know us know it subconsciously. We just kind of have to bring it out.
>> So it's as fundamental as that. They have the topic. We can clearly see that.
Mhm.
>> And in the form, they've kind of told us that it's maybe for people over 50 who are going to scene packs, but we we don't see that flowing through the packaging and the content. And as I mentioned, Jeff uh Jeff, who's Jeff?
Where's Jeff? Jeff's still a coach. Tech is a a former coach here. And he uh has I think you coached, did you say like over 200 um >> uh creators in this program? Crazy.
>> And uh I'm I'm seeing here in the poll I uh cheekily put up just a moment ago like, "Do you need a YouTube coach?" 72% say that they would love a coach. And we perfect service >> here for you. H if you want one-on-one coaching with a human being who can go just maybe a bit beyond uh the AI coaching that is available these days.
And the link is in the description.
vidiq.comcoaching.
I would guess typically we always have one or two creators in a live stream who are being coached right now. So do let us know in the chat and who your coaches and hopefully you're having an amazing time with them. Yeah, if you if you do want some more coaching, we have it available. Take advantage of it. The link is here and you're going to get like kind of tip bits and whatnot from uh Tech who is a praying coach. Dan and I are just merely amateurs. who uh make stuff up half the time and are funny.
We're just kind of like the the eye candy. Where is tech down here?
>> He's a man.
>> There's a lot of tech there, >> you know. And I won't believe this point by the way. Is this Dan? Are you doing that? That is some great uh >> That was incredible scrolling discipline, wasn't it?
>> That is Oh. Uh all I'm doing you're >> Oh, you click the middle mouse button. I saw you cheating.
>> Oh. Okay. Well, it's not as impressive though.
>> I use this all the time. If I'm like recording footage of a website or something, I I'll use that a lot. I try and hide the little cursor.
>> But I mentioned this before. I will just say it. I do want to give a thank you to Robin Dan because I remember being in the live stream watching you guys hoping that you review my channel. I learned so much from you guys even prior to coaching. You guys are legends. So, thank you so much for everything. and we saw it every week tech and we thought nah I'm not touching that >> no way holding >> uh like so many more channels who are about to be denied a channel review here in random selection >> so we have 176 responses on the non-gaming form we have 145 on the gaming form not the clock so I have I have something way better uh it's this I just get to like hit the button and it tells me 121 that's a random number out that number. It's conspiracy.
>> Oh, sorry. I'm not sharing the whole screen today, but trust me, I have a random number picker and only I can see it and it's >> limit.
>> No, no, it's fine.
>> I'm just making numbers up.
>> You're going to see how good I am at it as being random, too, if that's what you think. Uh, okay. So, let's jump over here and check out the Knowledge Rocket channel who has 43 subscribers, 13 videos, and there they describe their audience as a global audience. We'll talk about that. What do you think your biggest obstacle right now is? Does my con does my content is good?
>> What part of your channel wants to focus on my animation style and improvements?
>> All right. Well, everybody, does their content is good?
43 subscribers, 13 videos.
Oh, is this a channel that explains concepts, politics, finance through the medium of like other intellectual property, whether it's I don't know if you class Donald Trump as an intellectual property, but like there's um Ricky Rick and Morty there and it looks like there's some Marvel influences as well.
Oh, >> this is kind of a new genre that's exploded uh again with the advent of AI technology to allow us to do this.
>> Yeah.
>> Which means that it it it's one of those where like the first dozen or so channels that do it like they're going to just completely dominate the space and then other channels think, "Oh, that looks like a great idea, but because they're three months behind, it's just >> the the idea is gone and perhaps the quality isn't quite as good, which means that they just get very little traction." I'm saying all of this with tons of like uh caveats and assumptions.
>> Yeah, caveats and assumptions for me as well. I'm assuming this channel is doing a lot of AI stuff. I don't know. We haven't clicked on a video yet. And we're not them. Like, you know, but there is like a whole subgenre of YouTube like growth content where it's like, hey, if you want to get a whole bunch of views, make this AI channel, make that AI channel. And when those videos get popular, what happens? A lot of people hear about making like this many AI channels, and they all make those same exact channels. And it just kind of continues to flood the market over and over again.
>> Yeah.
>> So even even if people like me didn't exist because I don't like watching channels generating AI content. Even if people like me didn't exist, it's really hard to grow because everyone's flooding the market with the same exact thing. So that we have to caveat a channel like this with all of that first, if that's even what's going on.
Uh should we look at one?
>> Yes.
Why the US economy is closer to collapse than you think?
>> All right.
The United States has the largest economy on Earth, worth more than $30 trillion, which means it powers everything from global trade to everyday life. But imagine waking up tomorrow and realizing that system has suddenly stopped work.
>> So, I mean, we already know it's an AI voice, but also like there's not a lot going into the script cuz >> realizing that system has suddenly stopped like the way it spoke those words didn't sound natural. It was distracting. So yeah, we can assume a lot of like AI stuff here. And what I always say about this is I don't know if I can trust the source because this is very like factual. It's supposed to be factual information and I don't know if I can trust the source >> because I always have problems with like asking AI a question and just like making stuff up. So if I have that problem, why wouldn't a creator posting YouTube content not have that problem?
So that's where my immediate skepticism comes from.
Um, anyway, >> Tech said a lot with his first I think Tex's gonna chime in here and uh, no, I got nothing.
>> I think to summarize what what I'll say here is that this idea has been done before uh, with better AI technology, which means that it's a really an uphill battle. Uh, and it felt like to be honest the the AI animations and like the AI voice almost felt like something that you could actually probably do pre2023, you know, when chat GBT VO and Sora like that was something that you could actually create before that. I still don't think it was necessarily um that engaging and that uh kind of intriguing.
So, I just think from the creator's perspective, two things here. They need to come up with something that's more of an original idea than this. And the execution and the quality just has to go up to the next level because right now >> I think they're just so they're just in such a crowded swimming pool, they're just going to get we're going to drown there unfortunately.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. I think if I if I wanted to give you something tangible, >> I think because as you know, I'm a big AI guy. I don't believe in AI content creation. It tends to be the worst and to you guys's point is so um oversaturated. But I think if you if you are like really into the AI world because what I've seen happen a lot of times with creators is uh to you guys point like they'll there's this opportunity and then they'll have the AI write the script, AI do the voice over, AI do the research and then just assume that because it was easy to make it would be interesting to watch. But like I can make a movie in 20, you know, minutes and maybe fascinate to me but not to audience. Maybe what you can do if you're really into the AI world is you can ask AI if you if you go down the AI rabbit hole say this is oversaturated.
Tons of people are doing this. How can I create content that is compelling through AI that does not feel like and look like AI and in a a differentiated way? And then maybe that will give you something a bit better. If you're locked into the uh AI is my worker uh atmosphere >> tech, you've made a very dangerous promise there saying that you can make an AI move in 20 minutes. We have 40 minutes left.
>> That's all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying there. Yeah. I was I was going to say like something I saw I just saw this like comment the other day. I guess the CEO of Borders is like, "Yeah, we're going to start selling AI books." And that made a lot of authors mad and everything. And one of the comments I saw was great. It just made me laugh because it's so true. Why would I buy an AI book when I could just have AI make me a book? And and I think that like talk like that levels the playing field right there. That's when everyone talks about, "Oh, AI has leveled the playing field." Like that's where we're at right now is like you don't have to buy an AI book. You can just go and have one made for you. And you can you can do that, too. And that's what are a lot of channels I think who are generating a lot of AI content are getting it wrong.
They're trying to get the AI to do everything. And it's like well anyone can anyone could do the same thing you just did and that's what they are doing.
And that's why that's not that's not the only reason you're struggling but it's one of the biggest struggles. It's like the the bar has been lowered a lot for what can make you know make you a video to get you on the internet and and now everyone has the same exact tools you do. So how do you stand out?
>> You got to add human to it.
>> It needs a dash of hum. You got to do something. You got to do something.
>> Here's a crazy dystopian terrifying thought I've just had. Dan, if you just bring up that channel again only because I want you to bring up the screen.
>> Um, >> where'd it go? Here it is.
>> And then uh you see at the very top there, Ask YouTube, the new uh AI connected chatbot. Imagine if a few years time you could type in generate a video that tells me about the history of World War II in five minutes. M >> and it does it and it bypasses >> on the channel and generates something.
>> I've just realized what this button may become in the future.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah, that is that is uh that's super likely like they're probably definitely working on something something like that which >> Yeah.
>> In the meantime, memes.
>> Yay. Okay, let's talk memes.
>> All right, then. So folks, uh, as always, you submitted some awesome memes. And, uh, before we, uh, do this week's memes, let's see, uh, what was thrown at us.
Yeah. Yeah. So, it was a a light one last week and for the past couple of weeks, we've just been asking you to meme using templates on the internet, but I I've heard last time tech brought some amazing memeing opportunities to the table. And I think it's that time again. Uh so, if I can press some buttons here. at tech if you can just meme yourself shape.
>> I've been watching a lot of WWE, so here we go.
>> I get exactly what that means immediately.
I'm just imagining now uh commentary from Jim Ross. I know I know this isn't current WWE. We're going back to WWF.
Like, as my witness, he's broken in half or worse to our effect. Uh, >> do I need to do it again? Did you get it?
>> I mean, yeah. If you've got anything else to If you got any more illegal foreign objects.
>> Oh, no.
>> All right, I'm back. Do I need to do it again?
>> Sure, if you can.
>> Right. So, so screenshot that and meme away or just if you just think about tech WWE wrestling, what could you conjure up from that? I will be fascinated to know uh for my own personal amusement. Dan, can you just share with us where they can submit these said memes?
>> Yes, I can. It is the memes of the week channel in Discord, which I'm pulling up right now. I click this and I make it larger on the screen. I always try and do this.
>> How quick? That's incredible how quick >> our Vid IQ overlord puts the screenshots up there. Brilliant.
>> There you go. So, yeah, you can you can use these screenshots. You can use your own screenshots. You can you can go off template a little bit. We see that sometimes, too. Make sure you link your channel with your meme if you would like us to look at it. If you don't like link your channel, we're going to assume you just want to make people laugh and we'll move on. Uh, if you got your channel reviewed recently through memes or otherwise, don't link your channel, but share a meme. Uh, we don't want to review a channel we just saw recently.
Um, there you go. So, the Discord is up and running. The link is down below.
vidq.comiscord.
And uh let me get back to reviewing some channels.
>> Cool. Looking forward to it.
>> All right. Um well, I can't click anything. Before presenting your screen, we remove the other media. All right.
Okay. There we go. All right. Gaming channel. Anybody?
>> Sure.
>> Sure. Okay. My random number picker says 125.
Okay. Uh describe your target audience.
My target audience are people who enjoy watching Minecraft.
>> Uh biggest YouTube obstacle thumbnail and editing. Well, what part you channel you want most focus on? Thumbnails and editing. Well, >> I should have put thumbnails and editing well at the top as well.
>> I I think this is this is pretty good for a form fill out, but uh it might also speak to advice we can give them because >> uh people who watch Minecraft, >> it's a lot of people.
How can we narrow this down a little bit more? So, let's see. The best floating island in Minecraft. If you read this book, you're dead. So, I made a Minecraft mod.
How to build an arrow rail gun. So, that's a tutorial. This is kind of just interesting. Uh, I made this mod. We don't know what it is. If you read a book, you're dead. This looks like a challenge video.
Best floating island Minecraft looks like a a showcase of like someone's build.
>> Yeah.
>> The economy of killer servers. The economy killer servers don't want you to know. So this seems like more like a video essay or >> something like that.
>> So it's presenting itself as just a channel around the entire Minecraft culture whether it is you know as as he kind of said down political commentary on servers and then other things are like weird things I've obs I have observed in the game and then weird things I have built. the kind of just scroll down like 30 videos. Yeah, they're kind of just kind of handpicking the best ideas that they want to try and have a go at the moment. If you look at the first two videos, I pushed the orbital strike cannon to its limits and how to build an arrow rail gun. That was kind of interesting niche in that we're trying to build because Minecraft doesn't feel to me very uh combative, but this person is building high-tech weapons in there that feel >> that feels like an idea in a niche in itself, but then they've gone on to other stuff like that. So, I made a Minecraft modu and that's much more general.
>> Yeah.
>> Now, having said all of that down, I've kind of gone around the houses here.
view counts,400, 290, 370, 460.
We do not see this for new Minecraft channels that often. So, they have something here, >> whichever 90% of other channels that we've audited in this space.
>> I think the orbital cannon one is like orbital strike cannon is like spectacle to me. Like when you see that zoomed out circular like whatever the heck that is, >> that's like a spectacle. something is happening, you know, really interested in what's going on there. And the rail gun's cool, too. I see a lot of redstone tutorials, and I don't often see arrow rail gun. And I don't know if that'd be very useful. It might be for certain mob farms, but it's not advertising that.
It's just, you know, maybe people just want to make it for fun. And I it kind of makes me wonder if there's like a whole genre of Minecraft content you could do with just redstone tutorials for stuff that isn't necessarily useful, but fun, you know, just silly stuff. But I would narrow this down at some point when you're ready. Because something Rob just said like is a reminder to me as well like you're just kind of trying stuff right now. And don't don't even worry about necessarily the views themselves. Worry about how you feel making it.
>> Do you like making this stuff? Get to a place where you're like enjoying like, oh, I like this format. I want to do this. But I would eventually work towards narrowing down the type of Minecraft content because Minecraft is so broad. You're never going to be everything to every Minecraft fan. So trying to carve out your slice of the Minecraft pie, that would be my goal for you.
>> Yeah. And some advice that may be relevant to you, may not be, but it did make me think about this is like if you with the sometimes with these newer channels, it's hard to know if you have something working because people tend to run promotions. And so it looks like some of your early videos might have been working, but then sometimes people run promotions and then they feel like it doesn't work and then they um you know they kind of stop it and then their views stop too. One of the things I would maybe advise or have creators think about is in the beginning you kind of need those fails like don't run promotions to boost up your videos because you need to be able to organically know whether or not you have content that works. So much of your early stage, which you're in, it's just testing. It's not about trying to get a big video. It's about trying to understand um how it works. One of the things I I tell my boys all the time when they hop on games, they always try to act like they mastered it. But I'm like, when you get on the game for the first time, you're just trying to learn the buttons. You're just trying to figure out how the game works. Then when you understand how the game works, you try to beat it. So these first couple of videos, this stage that you're in, it's just figuring out how the game works.
And then once you figure out the game works, you figure out what works for your audience. You get clarity on your audience because people watch Minecraft.
It's so broad, then you can begin to think a bit more strategically.
>> I have one more thought, Dan, and then maybe we watch one of these. If you just scroll down again, I'm looking at the middle column here. So, I pushed the orbital strike cannon. As you said, Dan, there's like some there's some spectacle there. Then the middle one, if you read this book, you're dead. And it says too late. I think there's there's some natural intrigue there. It's built up some interest for me to click on. But then at the top of the middle row, the most simple I think that's supposed to be simple. Village breed it in Minecraft 1.140. And then it the text is just repeated on the thumbnail.
I'm I'm lost by what I'm supposed to find interesting there. And I think if the creator can understand and can grab the idea of why those first two videos in that middle row have more interest and intrigue from a packaging perspective, it will take them a long way when they really figure out the type of content that they want to make. And with all of that being said, can we watch the if you read this book, you're dead one? Because that I'm I'm interested to know if they're able to deliver something and start taking me through because they they asked us if we want to look at some editing on their content as well. Yeah, >> this may look like a completely normal lect turn, but look what happens when I take the book.
I wasn't meant to read it, but it does that.
>> Okay, so pause it.
I I It certainly delivered. I guess my question now is ah well you've told me everything now the book >> we don't know how we don't know how it works.
>> Yeah but but maybe they needed to uh tell us quicker because >> feels like there's too much dead air um when they were doing the commentary which you know can be really hard if it did the commentary live like maybe at least for the hook of the intro the voiceover needs to be done post filming to get it a lot tighter. Now, that would be my my creative fault there.
>> Yeah. There uh I will say that by the way, the smoothness and the clarity of your screen capture is good. I a lot of a lot of newer channels don't have that part nailed down and it looks it looks really sharp and clean and good. So, I just wanted to call that out. Microphone sounds good. I did notice the like I can't even I don't know if I can make the same sound, but the breathing in the mic as you kind of wait for stuff to happen. uh if you could do anything about that uh you know that would help a little bit but yeah dead air is a good way to put it. There was a lot of like almost like you were surprised at the outcome of picking up the book which is kind of funny but I just I think the it made it a little bit like oh is that it or are we going to like learn what just happened? Like are we going to talk about that? You know >> chance to show off our tool here a little bit as well because if you look on the right hand side it shows you when the creator made a change to their title uh with a pencil and then it actually shows a title changes a little below. In this case, that's not enough of a title change to create an intrig. You just almost change the wording in a sentence.
If you are going to repackage it, do something completely new and fresh with that idea. Uh just give it a try. But yeah, that's a free tool if you ever want to see what other creators are doing and how they're changing their packaging to see if we can uh kickstart old videos.
>> Comments are turned off. I don't know if that means this is on YouTube Kids. I don't see the YouTube Kids icon here.
Um, but so I don't know in terms of engagement. 13 likes, 467 views. I guess that's probably not a promotion. Um, >> yeah, it looks like there's some natural engagement there.
>> Yeah, I hope I hope they didn't uh promote it. Um, but yeah, I this right here, let's just one thing about this. I've seen this on a lot of channels today. I am trying to reach X amount of subscriber goal. Like we'll see this in people's shorts they're making. We'll see it in their banners.
Um remember >> the average viewer doesn't really care about that. I would say the description should also be for the people watching.
If this was a mod you used for example, you should link that mod in the description. I don't think it is. It's probably redstone or something. But as an example, I I just don't think people are going and reading your description going, "Oh, good. Uh I this was a good reminder right here. I'll make sure to subscribe." Like just make sure that you think of the viewer first. The subscribers are for you. Like that's something you are probably really happy about. People will subscribe if they if they are enjoying themselves.
>> Otherwise, all the best synth frags.
>> Yeah. Uh all right. So, let's while we get memes in, we need to go back to the discord because we are also doing boost channels today. Okay, so if you have VidIQ boost, meaning you you are a paid Vid IQ subscriber with the boost tier plan, you have access to a whole separate section in the same Discord where you can post your channels. And once in a while for these streams, we'll dive in there and pick a channel. Uh so they get their own separate area to post. So we're going to go in there now and once I find the right channel and we're going to pick a channel, I found it.
>> Uh no, never mind. We don't have channels in there yet. So, if you are in the boost section of Discord, uh, now is time to put your channel. Sorry, I thought we got the channels ahead of time. Put your channel in now in that section and then we'll pick a channel.
Okay, we'll do we'll do some super chats and we'll do um another random selection. All right, sorry.
>> Uh, that I think you you deserve you deserve Oh, where is it? Uh, >> you're going to deserve one in a minute.
>> You deserve this for a second.
>> Yeah.
Uh, laser jet, thank you for >> It was actually this one.
>> Uh, Laser Jet, thank you for the super.
>> Hey, >> Koish Gaming. I'm three years old.
>> Now, is this the first creator uh first Vid I crew membership to reach three years? I think it might be. It >> might be. I There might be some stats on that somewhere, but thank you for being on for three years.
Appreciate it. Uh, >> I'm special. Y'all got to keep me in prayer. I was like, you're three years old. How are you? Uh, how are you on YouTube right now? How are you doing this? Got it. Okay. Locked in.
Uh, all right. So, those were the super chats. So, light day on super chats today. Uh, we probably won't get to anymore. So, if you're like, "Oh, shoot.
Super chats." Don't. No, it's okay. Uh, there's always next time.
>> All right. Well, we'll pick another random channel uh while we wait for boost channels to come in. We'll do this one relatively quick because I see that Discord really moving now.
>> Um nope, just a random number picker.
Not the claw. 89.
>> Still going to press the button.
>> What?
>> I'm still going to press the button.
>> Describe your target audience.
>> That one.
>> Uh people who are interested in stories and facts. Okay. Uh, what do you think your I heard that.
What do you think your biggest YouTube obstacle is right now? Getting monetized. How to keep an audience engaged. Um, and what you want to focus on? How to improve my content so I can grab the audience's attention. All right, let me just pull this channel up in the background real quick.
Okay.
Tailor Tom, 483 subscribers.
>> Shorts exclusive channel. Is that right?
Yep.
>> Okay.
>> The largest ocean is guess the first trillionaire.
Sharks are older than what?
Arsenal just did it. Okay. So, these are kind of these topics are very random.
>> Um >> yeah, >> the the the baseline of like I'm going to like explain a thing is there in all the videos, but the the topics themselves are just bouncing around like no other.
>> So, they said interesting facts and stories, right? Can we just Is that um supported in the about section?
It's captivating one minute stories drop daily at 400 p.m.
with suspense. Hang on. Hang on. Let me where captivating one minute stories drop daily at 400 p.m. packed with suspense, drama, and >> unexplained twists.
>> I'm sorry. I felt I felt inspired to >> you can use that in your intros.
>> Just clip it. Right. Um, so I think what I was trying to establish there was is it interesting stacks some facts and stories about particular topic >> and I'm not seeing that because like the one that the telltale sign here is that Arsenal just did it and that is because Arsenal football team has just won the Premier League in the UK which is quite specific uh to our to an audience in the UK who are interested in sports football and that particular team >> whereas guess the first trillionaire feels like it's a bit broader can have more of an audience appeal, but it's this is talking about wealth. So, two very different topics, >> which suggests to me right now that this creator is just trying to figure out how to build consistency and post on a regular basis. I think 4 p.m. every single day, that's going to be hard to maintain over the long term, especially when your goal right now in your head is to get monetized.
I don't think that is the realistic goal at the moment. I think going back to what Tech talked about with the channel surrounding the theme parks in Florida for over 50s, which had a topic and a potential target audience, but wasn't really selling the value proposition correctly. This channel is like three or four steps behind that. current.
>> I'm going to say that this is probably one of those channels that I mean we've probably all seen on shorts we spend enough time there where they just kind of pop up. It's totally random in terms of like the fact or whatever. And there's just there's like these channels, these types of channels, just from what I'm looking at, we could watch one and maybe it's really unique, but I think this is going to be one of those cases where it's kind of a dime a dozen.
There there's usually gameplay in the background, usually Minecraft, and they're just talking about a topic. But they do say that they like pride themselves on storytelling and stuff. So maybe there's like something a little more unique here. Um, but let's go ahead and jump in and just see what the vibe is. Imagine finding out sharks are older than trees.
Yeah. Shark were swimming around Earth.
>> Um, it froze and I think the speed was up, too.
>> Imagine finding out sharks are older than trees. Yeah, shark were swimming around Earth before trees even existed.
Sharks have existed for over 400 million years, while the first trees appeared around 350 million years ago.
>> So, AI voice um some captions and stuff. It it's Yeah. I I mean, I've seen lots of shorts like this, lots of channels like this.
>> Mhm.
>> And I don't know what my advice is other than I got to be a little more specific and, you know, niche down a little bit more. It's It's just tough. Uh this kind of content is super repeatable.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I think Yeah. I mean, same thing you guys said. I think you need to know your audience. And then I think also understanding YouTube doesn't work that way. Like YouTube is pulling videos for specific viewers. And so if you don't have a consistent category or niche, if you will, for YouTube, a reliable type of content that YouTube could pull from for a reliable type of viewer, then it's not going to really push your content. Anyway, also think like if your if your goal is monetization shorts and not only just shorts but this type of shorts >> is it it just makes it even more difficult because I mean the amount of I forgot what it is but it's >> like a million it's like something >> that you need for shorts and then not only that the form of shorts that you're making are not really built to stop a scroll.
Most people are not going to do what we did, click on your short. I mean, most likely they're like swiping and then your short has to do something that stops that action. And um right now it just doesn't it doesn't do that.
>> Yeah.
>> You ready for a quick skit? Hey YouTube, how many views do I need to monetize my channel?
10 million shorts.
>> 10 million in three months.
>> 10 >> 10 million >> 10 million YouTube shorts views in three months.
>> Mhm.
>> Yeah. And then they also shorts don't pay as much as uh long form anyway. For 10 million shorts views, you'll probably expect to earn between $300 and $500 a month, >> I guess.
>> Yeah.
So, yep. Good luck. Uh, let's jump into boost channels now.
>> Uh, now there's a whole bunch.
>> So, let me jump over here and move this over here.
>> All right. Uh, we we don't really have a scientific way of picking these at random. There's not a ton. Uh, so good good odds here. So, hold on. One, two, three, four, five, six channels. All right.
>> Mhm.
>> Um, pick a number between one and six.
>> Three.
>> Three. It is >> three.
>> Oops. Sorry.
Uh, okay. That is >> so for for for YouTube context, that's three of six. GV Explorer. All right. I love this channel.
>> I didn't plan this part. Someone else gonna have to talk for a second.
>> I think uh GV Explorer sounds like a familiar name. Maybe they've been on the stream for many months or years. Or they submit a lot of they submit me memes. I think they're a serial meme from what I remember.
>> Serial meme.
>> Yeah. 688 subscribers, 145 videos, and let's see a few outliers. Two outliers right at the top.
>> Yeah, the last two days. That's great stuff. Two different games as well. Is that >> Yeah. Uh for Lauren and Subnotica 2.
>> Can we just scroll down? What are the ones? So, yeah, look at this. Um so, everything prior to that is typically a dozen views, sometimes over a hundred.
But these last two, can we just check uh these last two and maybe Dan, can we check the engagement on the on one of these? I just want to make sure that it is four likes, one comment.
>> What about the one with a thousand views?
>> Where are those views coming from? Not not to start bringing up conspiracy theories and whatnot. Like this could be just content that's being shared >> externally on Reddit. So like the engagement's just not there, but it's in my head. It's in my head tech because you mentioned promotions.
>> Yeah.
>> It's like this is a legitimate quotequote legitimate way to get views on YouTube, but it does not get you a community, an audience, and so on and so off.
>> Uh yeah, I they're probably here. So yeah, if you want to if if you have any insight into uh why zero comments like what did you use the promote tab um or is there something else going on? But it does look like just based on like the graph here it looks like bouts of promotion to me >> because you would definitely have some likes and comments on this for sure. Uh, I will say just uh I want to give you a quick quick compliment just from like zero seconds. Like I just from the the sounds I heard, it feels like a lot of editing and work is going into these videos. Like I can just kind of like hear it right off the bat.
>> Here it should take. Um I have no idea.
Oh, okay. So uh this one is right.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, okay.
>> So was that a an apple? What did we call these?
>> Emoji.
>> Apple emoji. Avatar is >> It kind of looks like that. Yeah.
>> And it looked like it was matching their commentary and reactions to that.
>> I think it's like a VTuber situation.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh so I just skipped ahead past the intro. Uh it does look like quite a long time sitting on the start screen. And this is the type of thing that I would try to encourage gamers to like not to do because this is all time. I know you just chaptered it chaptered it. My instinct was to skip all this because I just already have seen it so many times where people just kind of sit there and talk and talk and talk.
>> If if you're going to do this, this is where I'd say like get getting some gameplay up sooner would be better. And then maybe whatever you want to say up front, sprinkle it throughout the video.
You know, just write it all down.
>> Um I don't use promotion.
I have I don't have knowledge.
>> Where are the views from then? That's what >> Yeah. Where Yeah. Where where did the views come from? Did you post it on like somewhere else and it got views externally and people weren't commenting or liking because of that? It's just really abnormal to see a video get a thousand views with zero engagement.
>> Yeah. Three likes >> compared to other videos on the channel that are getting sometimes like a dozen.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Um you know, we're it's not a big deal if you use it. Our advice typically would be like maybe don't do that, but you know, if anyone out there is using it, it's just kind of the matter of like, well, at least you should know what it is. I think it's a great tool for people promoting a product or a service. That's what I think it's really for. But YouTube likes to promote it as like, hey, this is like a quick way to just get views, >> you know, on your videos.
I I will say for when you first uh open up the page that thumbnail caught my eye the one that has 1100 views. I do think there is something there because that thumbnail has contrast not only in like the the the texture but also like the emotion you have those kind of like uh I forgot what it's called but yeah like that certain aesthetic with that Apple emoji it just automatic that contrast automatically catches your eye. So, it could be if you go into your YouTube analytics, you can look you look at your retention graph. It could be something where you're getting what I call a curiosity click, which is people are like, they're not really invested in the video. They're just like, "Oh, what is this?" And then they click on it, understand what it is, and then they click out. So you can look at your retention graph and see what that first 30 seconds look like. And I can kind of give you some insight into what could be happening because that could be a a reason why you don't have any comments because people didn't stay long enough to feel a certain type of way about it.
They just kind of clicked on it because, you know, it kind of caught their attention.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Dan gaming channel. Can you just slowly scroll through the number of games that they're playing because it seems to be a lot. Subnautica, Subnautica 2, Pragmata, uh, >> Roblox, Skyrim, Resident Evil, >> Resvil, there's a game called I am Jesus Christ.
Okay, cool.
>> So, again, from a viewers perspective, it is a little all over the place >> trying to follow these multi-art let's plays.
And again, we I'm sorry I keep defaulting to this, I guess, copet answer, but what makes these let's plays different to all of the established channels that are doing let's plays?
Because if you look at Subnautica 2, Infinite Ocean, question mark, and then the title is The Ocean is Calling, Subnautica 2, Deep Dive. Nice pun.
What is there enough intrigue there to get me really engaged in in why I should be watching this particular let's play of Subnautica 2? I'm just I'm not feeling the the initial spark or spice to make me click on something.
>> Yeah, the intention of the videos is kind of not there. Like the ocean is calling. Subnotica deep, you know, I'm going to play Subnotica is the title could just be that and it would tell me the same thing. So yeah, I I like I would definitely be thinking about your videos before you record them and and consider the audience's point of view. Like why are they coming along with you? What stops them from just buying Subnotica and playing it quietly quietly by themselves, you know, versus watching you do it? And for me, it's just like I want more intrigue. Like you're playing Subnotica, but what are you doing in the game that I'm not doing? You know, >> something unique, novel, etc. And then for the title of the the video with a thousand views, GV inside the most dangerous inside the most dangerous workshop. That's GV is them. I I think the titles kind of doing a disservice, you know, like this is a Five Nights at Freddy's game. I've personally never heard of it. Maybe it's super new. Um so, you know, it is this the workshop where Five Nights at Freddy's makes all their animatronics but a shorter title.
That could be kind of interesting to me.
But yeah, there's again all the titles kind of have that in common where there's just like not a lot of specific stuff happening.
>> I have people working to help me. I can ask them. You Yeah. I will also go look at your analytics, see where your traffic's coming from because sometimes these companies they will like purchase promotions.
>> Yeah. So if you if you are like if you've contract with like a service and they are saying we we're get you certain amount of views and they're not being they're not successful. I could see why they'd want to turn to promotion, you know, like >> I would definitely look into that because that looks like what's happening. But uh I don't want to get too lost in the weeds on that. I'm also seeing more super chats coming in. Um GV, thank you for those. That wasn't necessary. Also, we really don't have time for super chats, but um we're about to pick memes because we have an extra minute. We'll just look at this one.
This person posted this twice, so I'm not sure what happened there, but thank you for the super chat. Uh, I recently made a Tik Tok that performed extremely well, but then someone stole my video and posted it on YouTube and outperform me.
>> Oh, my video just passed 1 million. He's his stole stolen video already has three million.
>> I think he um because it's different platforms, it makes it more complicated. Mhm.
>> Um I don't know if a flagging issue on the video would allow you to say that this is impersonation of content elsewhere, but then do you need to prove that? Then the other thing is that you can maybe try and make a copyright claim against it, but that it sounds so complicated, especially just for like a >> a standard creator. I mean, it sucks.
Absolutely.
>> Yeah. Um, I guess the lesson here is especially with short form content, if there is an opportunity to watermark your content, even if it just means putting like an at handle somewhere, uh, which is a little visually irritating, but it does mean that you're protecting your content, that's what I would recommend. If your content is so good that people are willing to rip it off, >> the good long-term noise here is that you are making content that is so good that other people want to steal it.
You're always going to be ahead of them.
They can only they can only benefit from the craft that you are creating. And hopefully in the future, you're going to have your own shorts channel on YouTube where you're going to dominate with that content and it will be protected by content ID. And as we just explored, there is the promote button. They they could be trying to get views on their channel and make their channel look good. Taking Tik Toks from everybody and then promoting then really three million people didn't watch it. That that's a possibility. I guess you could tell with the engagement, but uh congrats on a million views still. And >> yeah, hopefully in the future that can cease to keep happening. It that could be a very distracting thing that kind of keeps you invested in a long time. or, you know, you could just kind of barrel through and continue making awesome content and make tweaks like Rob suggested, uh, as you continue making new stuff.
All right. Uh, so let's take a look at the memes. We have a whole bunch of memes now. Thank you for submitting your memes. Let me get the channel back up here.
>> Let's do this.
>> Um, I'm going to assume the memes are safe for work.
>> Hang on. Hang on. Are we ready, Donna?
>> I think so.
>> Let's do this.
All right, here we go.
Be constant battle over there.
>> I hope all of the mods are chartling to themselves.
>> Yeah. Uh good.
>> Literal on the way to my best intro. Sure.
Uh, the client.
Nice.
>> Who is that? Which is that? Is that just an AI wrestler or looks like it? Yeah. Okay.
>> Yeah, >> cooking. I like him in the background.
That's a nice touch.
>> That's cut off at the top down for me.
What does it say?
>> Oh, uh, it says, "I can feel it. I'll get reviewed today." And then 1 hour and 5 seconds.
>> All right. That's a good one. All right. Skips has pretty great.
>> Nice.
>> All right.
>> I don't get that one.
>> Uh I don't either.
>> All right. Yeah. Okay. Cool.
That's it feels like personal experience there. Um, okay.
>> Okay.
Oh, a video. Oh, boy.
>> Here we go.
>> Uh, it's lagging.
>> Oh, >> BACK TO GAMING.
>> Nice one. Play that again, D.
>> Okay. Okay. I got nervous for a second.
Okay.
>> Look, it get it goes in the claw. There was a claw there as well.
>> I applaud the effort.
>> Oh my god. What would we do without AI videos?
>> How AI should be used. Everyone, >> everyone just uses to make goofy little memes.
>> Okay. No, >> the world would be a better place. Uh, look guys, that's my favorite chair.
It's really good chair. Sturdy back support, padded, just very good chair. I like chair A. Very proud of it. Okay.
>> Okay.
>> Okay. Wow.
Okay.
A lot of text there, but I got it.
>> Okay.
>> I like that jersey. Yeah, I like the where it's taken your hat and turned that into your WWE character.
>> Ladies and gentlemen, from Washington, 220 pounds, Washington Tech.
>> Come on.
>> Reigning Intercontinental Champion.
>> Your favorite meme?
>> Well, me.
>> Yeah. Yeah, you get >> Oh, it got to be the pawn shot. Reunite me with my PlayStation.
Okay.
Uh, >> hey, come on. LOOK AT THE GUNS. COME ON.
I LIKE THAT. YEAH, maybe one.
>> Okay, let me pull this up.
Sorry, there's a lot of buttons to press. Press that button and that button >> and Yeah. Uh, define define irony. The AI submission wins.
All right. 355 subscribers, 53 videos.
Play with Baba.
And >> is this Ryan's World for the 2020s?
>> It seems that way.
>> Uh, let's just confirm one thing. Uh, can we just click on one of these because I want to assume that this content is made for kids. Yeah.
>> Which means that there's going to be restrictions on engagement.
>> So, yeah, no comments.
Uh, what are the I'm trying to remember what all of the restrictions are now for um made for kids content.
>> Yeah, usually it says like made for kids like choices for families. Okay. Yeah.
So, this is the new made for kids icon or whatever. You'll see. It used to be like a little actual like icon, but now >> Yeah. simpler, safer experiences for kids and families.
>> Okay. So, let's go back to the channel.
And view counts at the moment seem to be matching subscriber size or exceeding on occasion, which is cool. And I'm wondering if this is almost a bit like we may have said like two or three years ago Dan and Tech that this might be uh too similar to children's content in the past but given how AI has become so more accessible to creators and the made for kids area is quite vulnerable to that type of content flooding the area. this kind of like anti- AI channel might be seen as something refreshing and safe and reliable and trustworthy for parents to allow their children to watch our content. Uh, which is great. And some of these older videos, wow, look at the view counts here. 10 >> I was going to say there's two things in common with these videos. Uh, one is they're all Marvel products and two is the bright yellow background.
>> Yeah.
>> And I do feel like the thumbnails might be a little better than some of the busier ones we're seeing. And I know like >> right >> I I think they might have caught on to that because the next two thumbnails or the latest two thumbnails are that bright yellow background again >> and so the um Mario IP uh being used there as well. Those videos performed better.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. When it's recognizable stuff. So like are Neato I I know that Neidos are like something that a lot of adults are clamoring to get right now like trampling each other target for. Mhm.
>> But do kids like here's like not I'm trying like half joking here. Is this really even a kids product thanks to how popular it is amongst adults and there's none on the shelves anymore? Like kids can't even get their hands on them because people are raing the shelves for for content on the internet.
>> That might be something to think about just the popularity of >> Dan. Then I think they need to revisit the Marvel content toys just to see if that was their hot button toy products that were really resonating with the audience.
There is one there. Marvel superhero toy experiment. Although that's not just not as clear as that it's an Incredible Hulk, is it? Some weird water balloon.
Um is is it a water balloon? I don't know. Yeah, it's a balloon of some kind.
It's a lot more difficult to track engagement on these as well because we can't see if if if there's a lot of comments uh for the older ones that performed really well.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. And I I know this probably would would become clear inside the content. I do think there's a way to make it clear on the page, but I think it's also not clear what this content does for the viewer. So, like does this like when I was a kid, I used to like get in those little uh magazines where you can open up you can see the toys that was going to be in Toys R Us. And so, I can just almost imagine myself playing with those toys. Is this what the kids who are looking this is that what this does for them? It gives them they kind of live vicariously through you. Or does this is this a review? Does this put them on to the new toys that they'll be getting? So I think like understanding for me it always go back to the viewer and understanding what you do for that viewer and getting that clarity on it. I think to your point a lot of that insight is hidden in the Marvel stuff and so maybe looking at the retention and and how those videos performed overall can give you some insight into what your your content did for the viewer.
>> Yeah, good advice. It's hard to find things to add honestly.
>> Yeah.
>> Like is it worth watching one of these?
But like it's really it's going to be really hard for us to um critique it given we are most certainly not the target audience.
>> Yeah. I feel like I'm a little old for this content. Uh but I will say the the concepts are there. Like Neato versus Real Food Challenge is it sounds like a YouTube video to me, >> you know? is I I guess my question is like yeah when I see the Marvel videos doing so well is Neato something that you know >> versus food.
>> Yeah. Neato versus food. I'M SO EXCITED >> GUYS. We have Neos that you probably never seen before. Some that are very rare. So we're excited to do this. You ready? YOU GUYS READY?
>> WHO I'M GOING TO PLAY WITH? BY GUYS.
LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE.
>> LET'S GO.
ice cream. I got ice cream.
>> Whoa.
>> Yeah, lots of editing production going into it.
>> So, >> I think I think as a channel right now with 300 subscribers, 50 videos, do some shots as well, right, Dan? Just to check. It >> looks like it. Yeah.
>> Yeah. And how are they doing?
Okay, they don't seem to perform performing at all, do they? Okay, I'm wondering if maybe they should just suspend their shorts content for the time being because it looks as if it's not even being shared with a seed audience right now >> in the last couple of weeks. They're getting a less than 100 views.
>> I don't even know if the kids app has shorts.
>> It's Yeah, it's a bit bit it's a bit of an awkward that.
>> So maybe just thinking about focusing on their long form content, which is just they're growing. and they're developing.
They've had some successes and some failures. Dan, you uh observed the thumbnail style which seem to be working and just maybe finding a collection of toys that the audience is really resonating with. I guess it would be interesting to know if I think four or five months after those Marvel toy videos came out, is are they still kind of ranking high in the real-time analytics? They're getting views today.
And if they are, even if the toys are older, it might be worth revisiting these uh ones that have done well in the past.
>> Mhm. Yeah.
>> So, all right.
>> Hey, the kids have grown up already.
Like that was like nine months ago, and they've gone from what babies to toddlers a little almost now.
>> Uh so that was your slate of channels reviewed today. Thanks everybody for submitting. Um thanks for your memes.
Thanks to those of you in Boost and if you're interested in getting yourself a coach, the link is down below. I saw a number of candidates today that would be I think awesome for for coaching.
>> Tech, you were awesome. I hope you enjoyed your visit.
>> You can again, right?
>> For sure. For sure.
>> Great.
>> All right. Well, we'll be back next week and we got videos going up all the time.
Uh, so yeah, everybody wave goodbye as I click end stream.
>> Finish him.
