[00:00:09]But in 1983, Zivi Nedivi proved them wrong.  Let me explain. During a training mission, his F-15 Eagle collided with another jet,  ripping the right wing off completely.

[00:00:18]Instead of bailing out, Nedivi engaged  the afterburners. The F-15’s massive, flat fuselage acts as a "lifting body," generating  lift to replace the wing at high speeds. He touched down at twice the normal speed, a feat  McDonnell Douglas engineers called mathematically impossible. This is why the F-15 is known as  the flying tank, a machine that refuses to fall.
